Tim Tebow’s performance in his second start as a pro has earned him even more attention.
Tebow won the awards for Pepsi Rookie of the Week and GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week in Week 16 after leading the Broncos to a one-point win against the Texans.
Now that performance has earned him a place in the running for GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year.
Denver trailed 17-0 at halftime, but Tebow accounted for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help lead his team to 24-23 victory. The quarterback completed 16-of-29 passes for 308 yards with one touchdown and one interception — good for a passer rating of 89.4 — and had 10 carries for 27 yards and one rushing TD.
He threw for the most yards by a Broncos rookie quarterback since John Elway passed for 345 yards against the Baltimore Colts in 1983. Frank Tripucka is the only other quarterback in franchise history to bring the Broncos back from that large of a halftime deficit (he did it twice — in 1960 and ’62).
Tebow’s 308 passing yards also tied for the most by a rookie signal-caller this season.

ya, i had to read this entire blog this morning… took a while to say the least! ha ha… new blog please.
Alright –we’ve got a new Head Coach here in Denver!!
Welcome John Fox !!!!!
BFE – In answer to your question re: RB coach in Carolina, Jim Skipper was the Asst. HC/Running Backs coach.
Fox on board. Hope he brings it!!
definitely going defense first few rounds..
I really wanted Denn to return..
Sounds like McCoy could stay here in Denver!
We’ll see what plays out..
Boy that was quick!!! Sure hope the sudden choice of new HC doesn’t backfire. Really surprised they didn’t do one or two more interviews. Oh well… I’ll trust this new front office more with Elway and I sure hope they made the right choice.
Congrats to Fox. Bring this team back to life, PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Definitely shocked with this sudden announcement! Well, at least without the 2nd interview.
rbf1,thanks for the info on Skipper, maybe we can bring him here,if Studs decides to leave,or Fox might just bring him with him anyway, either scenerio,Skipper and Studs are both good RB coaches.IMO.
I think McCoy got run off by Carolina because of lack of a scoring Offense,so excuse me if I want another OC.
No prob BFE.
Yeah, it’s an exciting day to have an established Coach brought in to coach the Broncos. I’m sure some of his former assts will make their way up here.
We all saw how the Offense opened up in the last couple of games tho!
Maybe McCoy got the go ahead from Studs to run the Offense, something he couldn’t do under McD,so maybe McCoy will be alright at OC,we need some familiarity for Tebow!
I trust Elway and CO.to choose the right OC,i think they chose the right HC,I wanted Dennison because of his zoneblocking scheme, but Fox is a better candidate to help our Defense, just as long as we have a good OC!
Anybody know if Carolina runs the zoneblocking or Power scheme??
Hope everybody is this happy a year from now. LOL
If Fox can turn around a Carolina team from 1-15 to the SB in 2 years,I don’t see why he can’t turn the Broncos around,I’m not expecting to go to the SB in 2 years but I think we can be a respectable team by then.
From the DP:
A seasoned veteran, Fox will manage the team’s roster and coaching staff day-to-day, including formulating practice plans as well as training camp and offseason schedules. Will hire his assistant coaches, within a budget set by Ellis. Will have input in the team’s draft and free agency plans as well. He will answer to Elway.
Sounds like a Helluva good start to me,thanks Elway for giving me piece of mind,at least for a while!!!
Fox on Tebow before the draft:
“[Tebow] had a very, very good workout, He doesn’t lack in the work ethic department, so whatever needs to be done, he’ll do. I definitely saw some adjustment and I thought he executed very well.” He said later that Tebow is “a guy that has a great work ethic … that if there’s something that needs to be fixed, he can fix it.” Asked about his talent compared to his intangibles, Fox referenced another quarterback who was overlooked by some. “Did you ever watch Bernie Kosar play?” Fox said at a league meeting last year. “Bernie might not appreciate it, but I call it as I see it. He won a lot of games. So it’s not all just how pretty they are [or] how big.”
Hey Bay! How we suppose to smell the roses when they just got planted! Hope they don’t come out smelling like what they got planted in! LOL Guess Mr. B being in on the Fox interview meant Mr. B was going to and did make the decision and rightly so. He has suffered tremendously for what has gone with the Broncos the last 4-5 years. Hope things work out for his sake, he’s certainly one of the best, if not the best owner in the NFL. Go Elway! Go Fox! Go Broncos! Mile high salute for Mr. B!
Beast I have mixed feelings about McCoy too. If Fox fired him for lack of production than that doesn’t indicate he’d hire him back even if he is already in Denver. If on the other hand he left to make more money in Denver or something than I guess that’d be another story. But we trust in Elway and Elway trusted in Fox so I guess that means we should too haha. We’ll see how it goes.
Am i surprised, absolutely didn’t this guy have a 2- 14 season last year and get run out of Carolina because of it? I don’t know but wish him the best and hope he’s the right guy .just saying. GO BRONCOS
It is funny that our response to our worst season ever is to hire the coach who just got fired by the only team with a worse record than us haha. But I do like Fox and they set a franchise record for players on IR this season so I think he caught a tough break. He has my support and I hope he turns out to be the Fantastic Mr. Fox!
BFE, this is what I found on the Panthers blocking:
“The Carolina Panthers made the switch to zone blocking under offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson for the 2007 season. They had previously employed a man-blocking scheme for a downhill running attack under coordinator Dan Henning, but during the 2006 season, the team’s undersized linemen were constantly overpowered by opposing defensive linemen. The power running game became stagnant, and especially ineffective in goal-line/short yardage situations, thus resulting in Henning’s firing and the switch to zone blocking. Thanks in part to the Zone Blocking schemes implemented, the Panthers saw their 2008 characterised by the running of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to great effect, gaining them play off status, and also saw the emergence of rookie Steve Slaton at the Houston Texans under their new Alex Gibbs-designed zone blocking scheme”.
Great post, Royal! I hope we bring the zone blocking back!
D minded HC, zone blocking running scheme, 43 D, can you smell the roses yet? LOL.
We are going to be like the complete opposite of the McD regime.
And all we have to do is go 5-11 to be able to tell everybody we did the right thing, LOL.
There is a good omen for me, Fox will turn 56 next month so for about 6 months we will be the same exact age.
Woody is still going on with his AHC/OC concept and rightly so:
What might be the best move Fox could make right away? He should hire runner-up pick Rick Dennison to be assistant head coach/offensive coordinator. Then he probably should lure Ron Meeks, who was in his defensive coordinator in Carolina (and previously with the Colts in the Super Bowl), to Denver.
I’m telling you, bringing Davidson from Carolina to coach the O would be exactly what we need. He can coach zone blocking just like the article that royal shows us says. He understands the running game. He’s worked for Fox. The only reason his system looks vanilla at times is Carolina has never had an elite talent at QB, so Davidson had to be conservative with his playcalling.
Davidson at OC/O-line, McCoy sticking around as QB coach, and a Fox yes man at DC. That would be the best staff for this team.
And this is what Legwold is saying about the hire:
While Bowlen has stepped back form public view in recent months and has publicly admitted to some health issues, there is no question he remains in charge of all things Broncos. After hearing the recommendations, he made the call on the team’s new head coach. All of the team’s top executives report to him.
Like I said earlier, it’s no accident that the Fox interview is the only one Bowlen attended, Elway is the guy over the other guys, but he still has the main boss above him.
Klis posted the following just before the hire, that guy I tell you has more insights on the Broncos than anyone outside the organization:
People have been reporting they’re hearing Dennison is the guy to beat. No one has quoted a source from the Broncos’ search committee. The fact Dennison interviewed for the head job for a second time in two years, spent 24 years prior to 2010 with the Broncos as a player and assistant coach, and the possibility owner Pat Bowlen is weary of going “outside the box” following the Josh McDaniels’ era has caused folks to guess Dennison will get his shot.
And yeah, this was a much faster hire than anticipated by most including Klis and I, but what Woody has to say about it brings back a big smile on my then 23 year old face:
The Broncos did this quickly — deciding just one day after interviewing Fox. It wasn’t the first time for this organization, honestly. At about the same time in 1977 the Broncos talked to a guy one day, hired him the next. And Red Miller took the Broncos to the Super Bowl that year.
well…. doesnt seem like klis had such an inside track to me! looks more like a swing and a miss! unless you meant to type fox but wrote dennison.
You missed the best part:
and the possibility owner Pat Bowlen is weary of going “outside the box” following the Josh McDaniels’ era has caused folks to guess Dennison will get his shot.
Actually you are right, I guess I wanted to read what I thought he said, which is “has caused folks to guess Dennison won’t get his shot”, because it just made too much sense to me that way, funny, thanks for bringing it up to my attention, it went right over my head.
oh… i thought the point was to demonstrate that dennison was the front runner! i caught the last part but guess i didnt link that with fox being inside the box!
guess experience pays off at this point for Coach Fox. hopefully it translates to a good season for denver! well im off for the day! check back in tomorrow. hopefully there is a new blog up!
right on man. i thought i had missed the point!
Yeah I think that Klis was saying we might be basing too much on assumptions. If he would’ve gone on to say that Fox will be the guy I would have been truly amazed but I am still impressed with his objectivity. If he hires Dennison as an assistant HC to run the offense then I’ll jump through the roof in excitement. I know it’s not likely but I hope Fox, Elway and Xanders have taken notice of Woody’s words and at least toss the idea around a bit.
There was no points, sometimes I wish these blogs came with an eraser, LOL.
Yeah, Elway and Woody have a long history together, I’m sure they pay attention to what the other his saying most of the time.
Yes and Elway’s already proven that he has his ear to the street when he quickly addressed the ridiculous Tebow rumors.
Talking about Tebow, this is his twitter:
TimTebow: Welcome to Denver Coach Fox! Can’t wait to get to work with you!!!
Anyway, it’s the first time since Phillips in 1994 that we have a D minded HC, it’s going to take a lot of getting used to for all the young Bronco fans, it will be different.
And Fox’s accomplishment started well before the Panthers:
Prior to his stay in Carolina, Fox spent five seasons as the New York Giants’ defensive coordinator, and in 2000 they went to the Super Bowl by shutting down the high-scoring Minnesota Vikings in the NFC championship.
Not bad…
And it wouldn’t be right not to post something about the classy guy that Studs is:
Studesville went 1-3 after being promoted from running backs coach when McDaniels was fired and provided the foundering franchise with a much-needed breath of fresh air. He’d like to stay on if Fox will have him. However, he told The AP on Thursday that he didn’t know what his next move was.
“But I would like to tell the organization and fans that they are first class,” he said, “and I appreciated every second of it.”
Thanks bud and good luck in your future wherever that is.
My arm is starting to feel better just at the right time…
Yeah Studs is the man. He earned my respect when he gave Tebow a chance to finish out the season even if it didn’t give him the what the conventional wisdom called “the best chance” to win and make a case for his interim tag to be removed. He truly is a class act and conducts himself like a coach should.
Bay do you think a coach has ever been hired without polarazing the die hard fans? I see most of us on all the way on board but also a noticable portion of the community in outrage in the blogosphere and on facebook.
Yeah, I have already read some saying what a horrible hire, a 2-14 record HC, that we should of kept McD.
But on this official blog folks are more likely to go with the flow, with the direction that management chooses and if things don’t look good after a while then it will ruffle a lot of feathers, but for now everything should be smooth sailing on this blog at least through the end of the year I would think.
At least most of the regulars are more likely to go with the flow. Like most of us, I’m in full support of whatever direction the new regime takes. And right now I have that funny feeling that something very special is going on.
Tom Cable or Juan Castillo as OC.
Tom coached in Atlanta, creative and able to establish the run game as well as take advantage of a very versatile QB.
Juan Castillo, like Tom is creative and very efficient at the run game and able to utilize a QB with Tebow’s potential running skills.
What we don’t need is John Fox to come in and go about business the way that Jim Mora Jr. did in Atlanta and continually force Tebow to play outside of his comfort zone early on. He (Tebow) can and will naturally progress to more of a protypical NFL QB, but don’t hurry along 2 to 3 years of progression into 1.
Yeah, but two years ago the greater majority had the same “feeling”, actually still same thing this past year until the firing of McD, so is it justified this year?
Well as you well know I wasn’t one who bought onto McD no matter what, so you may like to hear what I think is majorly different in this hire:
McD was all fluff, all talk, all promises, all on paper and all Napoleon complexed to where he was going to do it his way and no one else’s in every facet of the organization other than Bowlen.
Fox is all substance, all experienced and all on the field type of guy with a no non sense approach that everyone one in the organization is to do his job and no one takes more or less credit than anyone else.
In a simpler way, McD was a young arrogant egomaniac, Fox is an older well weathered team oriented leader.
So, yes, I do believe we can build solid foundations on those premises, it won’t feel like an illusion, a mirage, the crock of crap that McD fed us daily.
But most of you guys bought it, so how many are going to buy this simpler way of life, simpler way of conducting yourself that Fox will bring to us? It’s going to freak out plenty of the flashy plays hungry fans I’m afraid. We may have our flashes finally in the trenches for a change like I have always asked for, so the guys who are used to have them at CB and WR play might just have to take a back seat to me enjoying stopping the run and running the ball. And I feel I earned it.
It will be different, no one should underestimate that.
As far as DC goes, we just need a coach capable of instituting the vision Fox has for a defense and coordinate it. We could possibly even continue on our current trend of the rotating DC position and still be productive.
