Tebow Exemplifies ‘Never Say Never’

January 10th, 2011 - 3:29pm by Gabe Hiatt

Tim Tebow’s performance in his second start as a pro has earned him even more attention.

Tebow won the awards for Pepsi Rookie of the Week and GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week in Week 16 after leading the Broncos to a one-point win against the Texans.

Now that performance has earned him a place in the running for GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year.

Denver trailed 17-0 at halftime, but Tebow accounted for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help lead his team to 24-23 victory. The quarterback completed 16-of-29 passes for 308 yards with one touchdown and one interception — good for a passer rating of 89.4 — and had 10 carries for 27 yards and one rushing TD.

He threw for the most yards by a Broncos rookie quarterback since John Elway passed for 345 yards against the Baltimore Colts in 1983. Frank Tripucka is the only other quarterback in franchise history to bring the Broncos back from that large of a halftime deficit (he did it twice — in 1960 and ’62).

Tebow’s 308 passing yards also tied for the most by a rookie signal-caller this season.

You can vote for Tebow here.

We’ll have Fairley or Bowers one, because Carolins can’t take them both, lol.

  2. Mikeyb1203 says:

I would like Fairley still could be the fitting piece for our d-line we already have 2 great d-ends Ayers/Doom but besides Bannan we have nothing in the middle.

    *Carolina

I know why I didnt bay, because I was in love with the idea of a dennison run game. Still am. Wish he could be our OC but Fox gets to pick his own staff. I just hope its not conservative Offense. Tebow is the opposite of conservative. I would even take Tom Cable as OC … he does good work. But I think OC matters way more than who our DC is because Fox is more dminded than O minded. But all I can say is this is looking to be a very experienced cast Fox and possibly Mora…no first yearers over here.

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Experienced staff please!

  6. Mikeyb1203 says:

I hope that Dennison backed himself up against a wall in Houston because I think he is the best OC for us.

  7. tav true bronco says:

DAM I LOVE THIS IM SO SIKED!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. caramelloo says:

tav you might wanna take the caps off and stop yelling at us. Never mind your just excited about our new coach so we forgive you this time! Hahaha!! Who will be our OC? Now that we finally got a coach, a OC is next on the list?

  9. marshisboss says:

Just remember Mccoy used to work with Fox in Carolina so he may stick around. But that is a great hire

  10. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Williams is a great player but we need a leader in the front seven. DJ was supposed to be a captian and racked up two DUI’s. Just sayin. But if we keep him that’s fine I’m just sayin he could have a high draft stock right now and the organization wants to build through the draft.

  11. caramelloo says:

Ok what is Jim Mora Jr track record as a DC stats wise? That’s for my stats fanatics out there! Also this via a Panther fan….

john fox is a great coach… despite him going a leagues worst 2-14 last season that was because marty hurney ruined carolina… weve never been this bad but marty decided lets get a young team… restart fresh… fox will be good i expect playoffs within 2 years for denver
    1

  12. rayjr26 says:

i dont know, i just hope its not mccoy… had enough Mc’s at coach for my likes. would love dennison, but not sure if fox is going to want him. unfortunately McCoy has a history with Fox already so that could be bad. i want the zone blocking run game again! i think our O line is capable of the Zone scheme. pretty sure they are all athletic enough. just need an OC who believes in the scheme. and an O line coach that knows that style also! at least now we can move on from the HC hunt! thats a bit of a relief. my only other concern is that Fox is known for a conservative offense and that doesnt sound like fun to me! but 2 of 6 steps are complete this off season so thats good! :)

  13. Broncos Born & Raised says:

    13013,

You really think we’ll have the same offense that we’ve had for two years? There is simply no way. Look at Fox’s track record in the running game alone and you have all you need to now.

  14. tav true bronco says:

My fault mello, lol!!!! iam 4 sure

  15. Bro says:

    ya woot go fox!
now we just need to bring in dennison as OC and my coaching wish list will come true

  16. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I see us getting DeAngelo Williams like many have said, a nice change of pace back to comeplement Moreno (assuming we keep him). I like DJ and want him to stay, but with a new coach and new stafff nothing is ever gauranteed. Mike McCoy might stay as OC which is good, we need some people Tebow is still familiar with like McCoy and Ben. I just worry that Fox playbook might be a bit dull.

I hope a guy like fox was what Bailey was hoping for because we need him to stay.

  17. milehighmagic88 says:

Here’s what they need to do. Keep McCoy but demote him to QB coach. Then hire Jeff Davidson from Carolina to be the OC/O-line coach. They run almost the exact same system but this would work better because Davidson is a master of the run game and has previous ties to Denver. That way Tebow gets to keep a familiar voice in his year and our offense switches to one that is more focused on the run.

  18. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Rayjr, that conservative offense had Jake Delohme at the helm. If Tebow is who we all believe he is then there will be plenty of fireworks my friend!

  19. caramelloo says:

You know what I don’t want zone blocking, I don’t want spread, Power, etc etc. I want an Offense that can and will put points on the board (especially touch downs) no matter what scheme it is. I’m tired of either not scoring or only scoring FG’s.

  20. milehighmagic88 says:

Signing a guy like Deangelo would help the cause that much more.

  21. broncosfreak30 says:

We just signed Fox as HC!!!

  22. caramelloo says:

tav it’s all good bro, you’re just as excited as the rest of us. Trb that’s crazy you say that about Williams bc one site had us picking him up in Free Agency about a month ago. It also had us picking up Haynesworth.

  23. Mikeyb1203 says:

MHM I have to disagree with you Jeff Davidson is as predictable as McCoy the First half of TT first two starts run, run, play action, punt. I would like a coach that is more versatile.

  24. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Can Dennison come over as an OC? Or wouldn’t that violate that whole rule about going somewhere else at the same coaching level. Could he come over as an offensive line coach again? He said he bleeds orange and blue right?

  25. Mikeyb1203 says:

He could come over as assistant head coach/OC.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

He is the current Texans’ OC so unless he gets fired, he must have an upgrade over his position to be able to move, like assistant HC/OC.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

Hopefully they let him go because he said he just works there…

  28. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yes BBR he bleeds orange and blue but to go back down to a position player? I dunno.

As far as getting him for OC…we cant, violates rule, we would have to give him a higher/diff title for it to be ok. We may have to pay more than Houston to smooth things over as well. I want him to be the one in charge of Offense like and assistant hc/oc. But it wont happen. Fox chooses his staff. Nothing but a pipe dream…

  29. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah Bay, I was thinking the door in Houston might be closed on Dennison after what he said.

  30. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    position coach*

  31. rayjr26 says:

well glenn… we all want that! :) but seriously i would like to run a zone blocking scheme in our run game! moreno needs to learn the one cut and go that was made FAMOUS in denver about 15 years ago!! and i sure hope whom ever our OC is that he will build an offense to fit Tebow! and i dont mean his running style either. more shotgun formations, more role outs, a few boot legs maybe, but the last thing i want to see is tebow takin off 10 times a game on designed QB draws. those plays will eventually get our franchise QB injured! and he better be throwing that ball with our new QB coach (who ever that ends up being) everyday all day to get ready for next season! :) not that i doubt his work ethic in that area or anything!

  32. baylinorcrush says:

You guys are all insatiable though, not even a few minutes went by that all the relief of getting a HC has already evaporated and nearly everyone is here saying what’s next, take the time to smell the roses, this is a much bigger day than anyone of us may think.

  33. 1nOnlyTRB says:

we are just wishing its closed…it will not be closed…he is cool with Kubiak and Kubiak chooses his own staff. Not to mention, they went from crappy running to super running…I think they can suck up thier pride…Dennison is right…its a job. Fox doesnt bleed orange and blue…but its a job and while u are at the job, you do your job and you do it well. Houston will be crazy to show him the door because of that. We can hope, but once again, pipe dream…

  34. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I have this wierd thing that when I use a idioms, cliches or what ever those things are called (like pipe dream) … I have to google em to wonder where they are from and why they heck we use em.

A pipe dream is a fantastic hope or plan that is generally regarded as being nearly impossible to achieve, originating in the 19th century as an allusion to the dreams experienced by smokers of opium pipes.

    Yikes. opium tho LOL….

  35. mcdanielsdomain09 says:

the one thing i love more than fox being a defensive minded coach is the fact that this guy knos DEFENSIVE talent. I thnk hell watch college tape and senior bowl videos of ayers see if hes good enough in a 4-3 if not hell toss him and snag bowers, if he likes him i think hell go after fairley. Either way the guys knos defense wen he sees it. dnt believe me check his draft track record
2002(1st year callin the shots) – 1st rd Julius Peppers
    2004- 1st rd chris gamble
2007- 1st jon beason prolly the toughest mlb besides pat willis
These are jus a couple names. Guy has clout. Ok pick by Elway in my book

  36. caramelloo says:

Ray I totally here what you’re saying. I think Fox will do what’s best for the team bc he understands what he’s coming into. Look at this blog, we are a fan base that watches each and every move that is made with this team. I think everything will be just fine. Now I hope someone get me some stats on Mora Jr’s Defenses once he becomes our offical DC

  37. mcdanielsdomain09 says:

P.S. id be ecstatic if we could pull dennison as an OC/HC. Id get broncos tatted accross my face lol

  38. Borrachazo C.R says:

TRB no way Cable is a good OC… He had terrible play calling abilities(according with raider fans on nfl. com). They actually improved dramatically when Jackson took care of the offense and play calling!
So, that would not even gonna cross my mind!
If we didn’t hire McDuffus couple years ago and someone else did(as their HC), he probably would do the same he did with us and would be unemployed looking for a OC job, and we should go for him LOL… That sucks!

  39. baylinorcrush says:

I guess Pat Bowlen sat in on the only interview that mattered, seems like he knew something to me.

  40. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Hahaha too funny TRB. And yes I know, no Dennison zone blocking for us. I know Fox can run the ball though so I’m not too worried. The ironic thing about McCoy is I would’ve been much more comfotable with him as OC if Dennison had been here, but he’s much more likely to stay now that Foxis the guy. But who knows. Some folks say McCoy is unimaginitive but he only called offense for 4 games. With more control over offense that he’d prseumably have he may prove to be capable of much more.
    Bay,
I for one can truly appreciate the significance of today as I’m sure the other bloggers can too. But the simple fact that we’re on here typing away is indication enough that we are insatiable because after all WE LOVE US SOME DENVER BRONCOS! SO it’s natural that we want to expound upon the Fox hire and play guessing games as to what that means for our draft, staff, FA moves etc. Otherwise we’d all be writing, “Hey John Fox is the new HC!” over and over.

  41. imready says:

No suprise Fox got the job, he has a proven track record of turning a team around. He should be a good fit for sure and has something we’ve been missing at the HC position, personality. Anybody suprised the decision came so fast? They did say all along they wanted a heead coach iwth experience at the position. Feel bad for Dennison, he laid it all on the line. Hope he gets here one way or another, he belongs in orange and blue. It will be good to have a defense to cheer again , it’s been too long since opposing offenses were scared to face the Denver Broncos. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Go Broncos!

  42. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Yeah with Bowlen sitting in it may have meant we know who we wanted from the start. It’s understandable we’d want a guy with a history of turning an organization around quickly. I just hope – better yet I BELIEVE that we did our due dilligence and took the other interviews seriously.

  43. Broncos Born & Raised says:

    *knew who we wanted

  44. socalbigbroncofan says:

they soay mccoy might stay as oc because he worked with fox before. trying to keep same coaches around tebow. there is a good posiblity of that happening. thats all according to lacanfora

  45. rayjr26 says:

i hope that dennison makes it to denver at some point as a coach again! he loves the broncos about as much as we do i would guess. not to mention all the roots he has in colorado!

  46. rayjr26 says:

if McCoy can implement a ground game that WORKS…. works being the key word… then i guess i will be ok with him… for now! he still is too closely associated with the other Mc for my likes but oh well. not much i or anyone else here can do about it right now! just hope it pans out! we need stability on this team almost as much as anything else!

  47. Broncos Born & Raised says:

I hope we keep Ben McDaniels as the quarterbacks coach. If there was one thing we can agree on about Josh is that he knew how to bring QB’s to the next level. He felt bringing in Ben was the best way to do that for Tebow so I hope he stays.

  48. Broncos Born & Raised says:

We’re well past the 500 comments mark. I’d say it’s about time for a new blog again haha. With the new hire we may have one shortly.

    You’re sly as a Fox, Mr.Elway!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. O&BinCostaRica says:

Posted a long time ago, before last year’s draft, this excerpt about Tebow:

“He had a very, very good workout,” Carolina Panthers coach John Fox said. “He doesn’t lack in the work ethic department, so whatever needs to be done, he’ll do. I definitely saw some adjustment and I thought he executed very well.”
