Tebow Acknowledges Need to Improve

January 2nd, 2012 - 10:12am by Kenny Legan

Quarterback Tim Tebow is a big reason why the Broncos went 7-4 in their last 11 games to finish the season as AFC West champs.

However, his performance Sunday showed that the second-year quarterback still has a lot of growing up to do in the NFL.

“Well, obviously when you lose it’s just not good enough, and for me it wasn’t good enough,” Tebow said. “I just have to get better and learn from my great coaches and just come out next week and try to be a better quarterback, a better leader and be a better player.”

Tebow finished Sunday’s game with just six pass completions in 22 attempts for 60 yards and an interception. He also fumbled the ball on a third-down run in the red zone in the second quarter that ended the Broncos’ most promising drive.

“As a quarterback you’ve just got to find a way to put your team in the end zone,” Tebow said. “We had a nice drive going, and I fumbled — and that was very disappointing — just trying to fight for extra yards. And we had other opportunities we just couldn’t take advantage of. We’ve just got to find a way.”

But the Broncos still have plenty of confidence in their quarterback, and made sure to tell the second-year signal caller after the game.

“He’s not going to have a great game every week, so that’s our job to give him a pat on the back like, ‘Man don’t worry about it. That’s behind us. We’re in the playoffs. Start fresh come this week,’” Willis McGahee said.

Also, to all of you who say “Tebow was scared”… Kyle Orton plays so bad that people are calling his name during games. Did he ask for that? No! So they replace KO and put him in and he almost comes back to beat San Diego. Then the next week he comes back from 15 and beats Miami. Then we lose terribly bad to Detriot. Then we go on a TWO game DIVISION away game winning streak. Then we beat the Jets! Then we go to San Diego and beat them. Then we come home and beat the Bears with freakin 5 minutes left in the game. THEN! We go on a three game losing streak, one of those games against the GREAT Tom Brady, which if they hadn’t been so dang conservative in the first place we could’ve won. Then we lose to the Bills and he plays horribly because he is FORCED to throw the ball because our running game isn’t working and we didn’t even try to throw the ball on any first downs. THEN he has to face the man he replaces in the final game of the season and your coach and OC show little to no faith in you. Anyone here have to face the person who was fired so you could be hired? Don’t think so. Pretty scary stuff–considering only like three Broncos had actually been in the post season before. So, not only was he scared, but so were a slew of other Bronco players. PLUS, there is all the added bonus of the media making everything completely crazy! I’d like to see how you handle the pressure–especially without an off season and especially when you were put in so you could lose and Elway would have a reason to get rid of you… and yet still, you defy all the odds and people keep hating. Well, you keep hating, because I refuse to.

There is no reason why we can’t win this weekend and I am proud to be a Bronco fan!

Biggest difference between the 6 game win streak and the 3 game losing streak? CONSERVATIVE PLAY CALLING! I would love for him to throw a bomb on the first down of the game on Sunday, catch or no catch, it’d get the Steelers guessing.

Well said, jsbear, and yes, armadillo_orton is very perceptive and right on. If all fears, jealousies and whatever would be thrown out, perhaps everyone; management, coaches and team could work together for the best of all. And settle down and praise and leave blame out of the picture and win.

Tebow is a lousy excuse for a QB. 6-22 for 60 yards is nothing short of pathetic. He has only completed over 50 percent of his passes in one game. People talked about Orton being one dimensional, but Tebow is the epitome of one dimensional. Once teams started stacking the box and forcing him to throw, we started losing. The reason Fox doesn’t call more pass plays is because he knows Tebow can’t make the throws he needs to. THe Bills and Chiefs are terrible teams and we couldn’t beat them. The defense did their job sunday, and so did mcgahee. The reason we lost was Tebow’s inability to convert on third downs, the same problem he’s had all season. The reason we won’t win next sunday is because the steeler’s have a top five defense and we only mustered 3 points against a bad defense. You can’t rely on fourth quarter miracles in the playoffs against the best the NFL has to offer.

Oh, you mean bad, nasty, sick, ridiculous? Definitely not used to your lingo, I take words for what they actually mean, LOL.

And sorry guys but you are wasting your time in this old blog no one but stupid guys like me are even paying attention.

  6. CZSharon says:

YES, tlcat06, you see it exactly as I see it. I know others also see it exactly as you said here. I said this in a different way earlier today. You are totally correct.

CZSharon and tlcat06 I am glad to see that there are at least SOME positive comments flying around here. And you two are right on! I refuse to predict a Bronco loss like many of you on here have been doing all day. I will do nothing more than cheer on my team, remain hopeful and believe that they can pull this off, because I KNOW they can. And no matter what the outcome is, I STILL love my team and will continue to support ALL of the players!

TEBOW TEBOW TEBOW Thank you JESUS

  10. broncofan9137 says:

It was just a matter of time for teams to figure out how to keep Tebow in the pocket & not let him get to the out side. Teams are making him pass to beat them & thats one thing Tebow can’t do. He has not improved very much in his passing, most passes are wabbly. I like Tebow but he didn’t improve as much as he should have as far as his passing is concerned. They need to give Adam Weber a chance next year. Elway don’t give up on looking for a QB & a new head coach.

  11. CharlesD30 says:

Tim Tebow went 6-22 for 60 yards passing and 1 interception and these Tebow marks blame the coaching staff, first of all it’s not the coaching staff that holding Tebow back it’s Tebow that’s holding himself back.
Because one defenses have figured him out already, two the wide receiving core is OK, and three even if you get him some better receivers he still need to prove that he can actually throw from the pocket, and don’t even start bragging about his records in high school and college because those are two completely different levels.(Just a reminder for FLgator douche that constantly blames the coaches for Tebow’s sucking during Denver’s three game losing streak)The NFL is a completely different level than the SEC, and Big 12 and the powder puff teams that Tim Tebow has played against while he was playing at Florida.

  12. CZSharon says:

Oh how fast we turn. How soon we forget Tebow came in after Orton lost 4 and won 1 and turned it all around with 7 wins and 4 losses as a new QB. And seems to me it is these wins that put the Broncos in the AFC West.

  13. Old Warhorse says:

I played left end in high school in the early sixtys.(that explains my user name.) We went to state playoffs every year that coach Sisson couched.
He taught us how to catch a football. He taught that if the passer was
throwing right-handed the ball would have a clock-wise spin so we needed
to lead it in with our left hand otherwise it would spin right out of or grip.
Lead it in with the right hand if the passer is left-handed.

I’ve seen a lot of well-thrown balls from TT that have spun right out of the
grip of the receivers. I think that Denver’s receivers coach needs to explain
    basioc mecanics to the receivers.

If the ball is caught correctly it will spin into instead of out of your grip.

  14. CZSharon says:

Old Warhorse; Thank you for this great info. Certainly explains things. Yes, I too have seen well thrown balls from Tebow and yet, the receivers drop them. And it is chalked up as an incompleted pass, but certainly not Tebow’s fault.

  15. CharlesD30 says:

CZSharon: Kyle Orton did play bad during the 1-4 stretch, but Tim Tebow is playing worse; as a quarterback in the NFL it is his job to make plays from the pocket, yes all be it average receiving core, he needs to get better and every game I’ve watched him play he’s been awful for three and half quarters, but in the last five minutes he finds a way to get a victory(with the defense playing lights out of course) but that style of play won’t last in the playoffs against the likes of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and New England. You just can’t go 6-22 for 60 yards passing and expect to beat any team in the NFL, and every one keeps forgetting that the opposing gets payed to make plays too.

  16. stumac69 says:

I can’t be the only one that noticed the coaching staff that is doing everything they can to make Tebow look bad, come on play the KC game back look at the play calling they wont give him a chance to make a play. He does need some work but eveyone knows he is not a pocket passer and if you look at the plays he rolled out on he completed those passes an they options to the outside also went for positive yards. You can’t expect him to make those obvious passing plays from the pocket with 8 gyuys in the box and recievers who werent getting open. Why did we not try the no huddle to change momentum and let him get in a rythm, why because that’s when he is at his best. I can tell you what plays were comming in the KC game, you think maybe KC figured it out too. It’s obvious the coaching staff still wants him out, but there making it a little too obvious. Just let him play, they saw him getting better every game so they had to do something and the last two games showed that.

  17. broncoduckfan says:

In the big picture, the broncos are 7-4 this season under Tebow and that’s not bad. Does he have room for improvement? Yes, a bunch! But he also has shown enough skill, moxie and leadership to give him the benefit of the doubt. It is very true that the receivers are not getting open and flat out dropping the ball far too often. Some of that is due to a lack of offensive rhythm in the passing game.
Also the OC still hasn’t responded to the defensive game plan the last few games. If they rush the edges hard but leave three lineman in the middle to clean up if TT scrambles, the OC needs to adjust the passing game to take advantage of the static lineman in the middle. The other option is to bring in motion a player from right to left to open up the lane for TT to roll left into his comfort zone. They chip the rusher then go for a TE screen.
All through the winning streak, the team kept saying they were team wins. Let’s see this losing streak in the same way.

  18. CZSharon says:

I definitely have seen a swing back to management and coaches trying to get Tim Tebow out. They thought he would do it himself, but instead he put the Broncos in the play offs. So now they are setting up Tebow to fail. They are squelching his positives and trying to make him uncomfortable to accentuate the things on which he needs to improve. They have always praised other players on the team as they should, but left Tebow out of their praises. Yes, they have never been behind him. And yes, this losing streak is the team; the same as they made it known that the winning streak was the team.

  19. CZSharon says:

Also Tim Tebow has a smart brain, which I think they should utilize in any way that they can.

  20. Lmccoin says:

I am sooooooo pumped that we are in the playoffs. GET ON BOARD AND GET BEHIND THE BRONCOS!!!!!
