Tamme Talks Manning

March 23rd, 2012 - 3:36pm by Stuart Zaas

Having spent the past four seasons in Indianapolis with Peyton Manning, newly acquired tight end Jacob Tamme knows what it’s like to play in Manning’s preferred hurry-up style of offense.

Tamme, who agreed to terms with the Broncos earlier in the day, spent the first three years of his career catching passes from Manning. In 2010, which was their last year playing together with Manning as the quarterback, Tamme set career highs with 67 catches for 631 yards and four touchdowns.

“It’s fun to play ball with him,” Tamme said about playing with Manning. “Offensively, you go into a game with a game plan that you know that you can succeed. You know that if everyone executes their job, good things will happen. He’s a great leader. I think everyone will really enjoy having him as a teammate.”

Current Broncos players curious about what it is like to play with their new quarterback can go to Tamme for a preview.

“I wouldn’t say anything different than what they already know,” Tamme said when asked what advice he’d give his new teammates. “It’s fun because Peyton expects so much out of himself that everyone else wants to play at that level too. It’s a neat thing and it’ll be fun. I think everyone will really enjoy playing the style that he brings as a leader at quarterback.”

Tamme joins former Texans tight end Joel Dreessen, who also agreed to terms with Denver today, on the club’s roster. While he said he didn’t know Dreessen personally, he does know what Dreessen brings to the team from their time spent in the AFC South Conference, and said he has high hopes for what Denver’s revamped tight end group can do this year.

“I know him from playing together in the AFC South,” Tamme said. “I know his game and I’m excited…I think we’re going to have a really good group of tight ends and I’m very excited to see the different things we can do offensively with the group.”

One current Bronco that Tamme does know well is linebacker Wesley Woodyard. The pair played together at the University of Kentucky, and Tamme is looking forward to reuniting with his former teammate.

“I’m really excited,” he said. “There was nobody that I respected more – I had a lot of great teammates at Kentucky, but nobody that I respected more during our time there than (Woodyard). I know he’s earned the respect of a lot of people in the Broncos organization already by the way that he’s played. I’m really excited that he’s back and really excited to be teammates with him again. If there are a lot of other guys like that on this squad, it could be a heck of a lot of fun this year.”

Defintely. I was here all along calling PM the best ever (JE is second, imo, and that is as a life long, die-hard Bronco fan).

I was arguing that we should absolutely get manning, for what he can do for us for in about the next 3 years.

But I was also saying that we should absolutely keep Tebow. Give him all the time in the world with very little pressure to work out all his techinques, and let him once again take over for us when Manning inevitably retires in the next 2-maybe 5 years.

But, having done all we have done in FA for our offense (Which on paper looks to immediately make us among the afc favorites), I now think even more that we should focus more or less solely on D in the draft.

As far as offense goes, maybe a late round RB. Maybe a First or second round pass-blocking interior O- lineman. Other than that we need at least two interior D-Linemen, Depth at MLB, and at least one secondary player. CB or safety.

Really I think our Draft order might look good (assuming best player available would allow) DT, OG, DT, MLB, Safety, RB.

  3. alex4serg says:

Not sure how many picks we have as of right now.

  4. MANDIEGO says:

We should trade some pics and tie goodman in to move up and take an elite cb that can return kicks.

  5. alaskanbronco06 says:

Cut/Trade Goody Vickerson and Knowshow. Sign Okoye Thomas and Sims at DT Lofton at MLB. Bring Dawk back and get Gay. Draft D with at least 6 picks. 1 DT 1 DE 2 LB 1 S and 1 CB. Sign Stokley for a year and 2 picks on offense. 1 RB and 1 WR or QB.

  6. broncos208 says:

hey what players on the current roster do you guys see steping up like harris and Carter…and i mean 1st or 2nd year picks ups like Joshua Moore! Reading about him on a bears post they talk about his raw talent at CB and Safety! Mario Fannin could be huge watching willis’s blueprint last year! Another player to keep a eye on with mannings presense is Tyler Grisham the little WR from Clemson. He reminds me of a early stokely!! Rameriz might batle walton for the center job. Do you guys think we will get a new FB like leonard weaver or roll with Austin Sylvester?? Adam Wever will learn alot from peyton he could be the future!! ya never know!! lol and Ben Garland if he decides to play football maybe he can sneak in a few sacks…im with best season since the 2nd superbowl run!

    Grisham, Tyler

  7. alaskanbronco06 says:

With Porter and Bailey we dont need to get an elite CB this year. We can get a CB that can return kicks in the 3/4 round.

  8. MANDIEGO says:

Bailey is aged and injury prone. He will Ned replacing in the near future why not get a youngin’ and trained up?

  9. MANDIEGO says:

Damn I’m tired look at that post.

    Peace out

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

We have Porter Harris and Squid on roster plus we may get Gay who is deciding. We dont need to trade up for one We can get one that falls to us.

  11. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Other than Bailey of course.

  12. 6bul says:

Tebow is gone, why is that all everyone talks about? The broncos are building a championship team and every post turns into tebow. Show some respect to the other players that made last year great. EFX has created a great future fore the broncos. Please move on from tebow

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

People talk about it because Tebow was a part of what happened last year. Maybe you should show some respect towards Tebow and those who like him as a player and remember what he did for the team last year. He brought the organization back to life.

  14. alex4serg says:

Just paying respects to a former player. I talked way more about hillis last year, no complaints.

    Why the hate?

  15. VonDoomBroncos says:

I agree that Tebow is getting talked about a little much, but it’s understandable with us just having traded him like… 5 days ago. Don’t worry it’ll die down eventually until we lose our first game and the tebow fans start telling us what a big mistake it was..

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

Also technically Tebow is STILL a Bronco. Tomorrow it become official. It happened two days ago.

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

The trade came though two days ago. Tomorrow it becomes official when Tebow signs and all that.

  18. VonDoomBroncos says:

Dang really only two days… feels like forever ago. But the Broncos move on without Tebow and look to the future with lots of great pick ups like Tamme, Dreesen, and Porter for cheap. This draft could lead us down the path the championship if luck is on our side and Tebow didn’t get God to curse us…

  19. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Yup Wednesday night. 2 days.

  20. strandoftds says:

Just so you all know TE Julius Thomas is going to light up the NFL in 2012, just wait and see. He`ll be a rising star.

  21. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand i agree with you on that one. Cant wait to see JT light it up!!!!!

  22. buck484 says:

Speaking of lighting it up …where’s BFE

  23. buck484 says:

    Nice Ride

  24. strandoftds says:

BFE, come out, come out, where ever you are!!!!!

  25. strandoftds says:

Dude, fax me a beer! LOL

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

LOL Its friday night Where is BFE?

  27. oldsouthstander says:

First, having been in the South Stand during Wrights years as a Bronco I’d like send my sincerest sympathy to his entire family. He was a delight to watch both on the football field and the basketball court.

Threre are four possibilities of what the results are on PM coming and TT leaving:
    1) PM success, TT success.
    2) PM Success, TT failure
    3) PM failure, TT success
    4) PM failure, TT failure

But, the best thing is that no matter which scenario is the final result, we’ve picked up several excellent, long term players as a result of ther PM signing.
So, in reality, the only possible scenarios are 1 and 2.

  28. strandoftds says:

Oldsouthstander, I`m picking #1. I want both to succeed.

  29. 07elway says:

Just have to say I am one ticked off Bronco fan and that is putting it very very very nicely…

Did most of my venting elsewhere so trying to keep it civil on here so I don’t get myself banned. lol

  30. strandoftds says:

My most sincere condolences to Lonnie Writes family for their loss. Once a Bronco, always a Bronco. I never knew who Lonnie was a player, I was only two years of age when he started playing for the Broncos in 1966. We Are Broncos Orange!!

  31. strandoftds says:

Its gonna be very tough seeing Timmy wearing green, very weird.

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

Man ive been reading some of the comments of the Jets blogs theres a lot of P’od fans.

  33. Karl03 says:

I like the Porter signing and getting Jacob Tamme is better than an aged Dallas Clark, sucks we couldnt entice mr. saturday to join the team his leadership on the line and familiarity with Peyton Manning made him a good candidate to help call out the audibles on the line and to help communicate what play is gonna be run, but o well. As for what we should consider for the rest of the FA period DT’s, one thing that is good for us is Ty Warren is coming back off injury i believe though he is oft injured i believe he will give us quality time stuffing the run also Marcus Thomas, Amobye Okoye is also a good fit for the rotation, never can have enough big men to rotate on the line keeps them fresh and dominate. I would like to see denver take a look at Curtis Lofton we do have Joe Mays who i was happy to see resigned the mans just a stud, but Lofton brings more to the table than that hard nosed run stopping power though i doubt a deal would get done tho since we have Joe we dont really need him. offensively i like the small additions of Dressen Tamme and Caldwell but bring in a little bulk on the line nobody inparticular just a little beef.

  34. 07elway says:

lol Weird??? Weird doesn’t begin to describe it… doesn’t do it justice

  35. 07elway says:

Hey, if the Jets fans don’t want him, I’ll take him. All to myself………

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

I am not liking mock drafts ive been seeing. Been seeing a majority of Offensive players and few D players!!!! Ughh!!!

  37. FTR says:

    Hey 07!
    I bet you would.
    Just saying!
    FTR

  38. strandoftds says:

LOL 007, greens an ugly color!

  39. strandoftds says:

    I feel your pain Ash!

  40. strandoftds says:

Alaska, there only mocks, just projections. We`ll know in a month. LOL

  41. Karl03 says:

A draft class that would solidify the Broncos is
1-Michael Brockers the guy is a beast has tremendous talent/Devon Still A DT is needed and one of these guys fills a big hole up front
2- Could go two ways one being another DT which is completely fine so a guy like Brandon Thompson would be a nice fit, or could go CB even though we got Syd coming back from injury, Chris Harris who exceeded all expectations and was a stud, Cassius Vaughn coming back off injury taking a guy like Brandon Boyking out of Georgia would be a nice addition to our CB’s since you can never have to many in a pass heavy league
3-This one i feel would be best spent on a guy like Lamichael James i know he is injury prone and all but he resembles Daren Sproles who did work for the Saints plus with a killer zone blocking system and power blocking system we have in Denver it opens up great cut back lanes which a guy like James will excell in also he can help in the passing game like sproles it would give Peyton a killer dump down security blanket and give defenses fits, especially since Knowshone may be a no show again
4- Could be an WR like Tommy Streeter if we take a DT in the 2nd round, if we take a CB this pick could be a DT such as Jared Crick another option would be CB Coty Sensabaugh… Though i feel Crick is a steal at this spot i think Streeter is a better pick
4- The Jets gave us their 4th in the Tebow trade so getting another one of the guys i stated above would make sense another great value pick though the kid is troubled is MLB Vontaze Burfict some times taking a chance really pays off-hence Terrel Davis 6th round pick- so it could happen be perfect if he was drafted by denver showed how to play the game right and then dominated Pat Willis Ray Lewis style for the next 14 years for us
5- We need to take a QB Caleb haine is not very good never will be lets draft a guy that has potential if groomed right such as B.J Coleman
5- J.D. Walton is an agressive guy and is a fierce fight in the trenches but having a guy back him up or potentially unseat him will be a upgrade at center so drafting a guy such as Michael Brewster would help our center situation.

our two 6th round picks should be used to give us depth at DB and on the OF Line i dont have anyone inparticular in mind but im sure Fox and Elway will do a good job.

  42. alaskanbronco06 says:

I know Strand i know….UGHHH LOL still bugs me lol.

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

Only one sixth round pick. Not 2.

  44. Karl03 says:

Sorry i have alot to say just excited already for the year

  45. strandoftds says:

Me too. It especially bugs me when I see a QB at #25 like Weeden. thats a flippen joke. But that was before we got Manning, so no more seeing his name, thank God.

  46. Karl03 says:

I thought we got a 4th and a 6th in the Tebow trade

  47. strandoftds says:

    Karl, nice job.

  48. alaskanbronco06 says:

We did but thats the only one we dont have our original 6th. Weeden is not our 57…..UGH!!!!
