Talking Turkey and Jets

November 26th, 2008 - 4:16pm by Jake Grilley

Conversation in the Broncos locker room on Wednesday focused on Sunday’s showdown against the Jets. However, with Thanksgiving a day away, players also chimed in on tomorrow’s fast-approaching holiday.

DUMERVIL ON FAVRE

So what is Elvis Dumervil’s opinion on Jet’s quarterback Brett Favre?

“Brett Favre is overrated,” Dumervil told reporters before pausing a moment.

“Is that controversy for you guys?” he said with laugh.

“Nah, Brett Favre is excellent. He’s playing his best ball — like 70 percent completion — you can really see he’s in rhythm right now, they’ve got a ground game going and they’re an explosive offense. We’ve got our hands full.”

BAILEY BROTHERS SPENDING DAY TOGETHER

Champ and Boss Bailey haven’t been able to spend Thanksgiving together in quite some time.

Prior to signing with the Broncos this offseason, Boss played for the Lions, a team that annually plays on Thanksgiving Day.

So Champ said this will be the first time the two have shared Thanksgiving dinner in probably eight years. Now that Boss and he are reunited in Denver, the elder Bailey is excited about spending the day with family and enjoying a home-cooked meal courtesy of Boss’ wife.

“She can cook,” he said with a smile. “So that’s exactly where I’m going to be.”

WATCHING THOSE WAISTLINES

When most people overindulge on Turkey Day, they only have their scales and jeans to answer to. In the world of professional football, those extra few pounds and inches won’t go unnoticed.

Players that report heavier face fines for being over their playing weight.

But Dre’ Bly said that he is going to enjoy tomorrow’s dinner, and he doesn’t see other players holding themselves back too much.

“I think after guys eat well tomorrow they are probably going to go find the steam room or sauna,” he said. “So they can sweat some of that fatness out.”

they said on the news page that we might get nate webster back and dj williams along with champ and i was wondering with all the “starters” coming back were are all our rookies going to go, i really think that larson, woodyard, and winborn have played great, of course they haven’t played perfect but they have done pretty good, i mean how many times has winborn who i think is ranked third on the team in tackles made stops for loses and that first goal line stand didn’t larson stuff the crap out of the raiders, and woodyard has played great to, so what are we going to do, maybe we should play with one saftey and have four linebackers i mean thats pretty much what we do anyways but manual sucks, and i would think that dj or even woodyard can keep up with a tightend unlike manual. of course i already know that our two starting corners are going to be champ and dre bly and that josh bell is going to be the nickle, even though they didn’t really give jack williams a shot. but what do you guys think their going to do, and as for next year i have a feeling the broncos will keep boss bailey on the team, and everyone said it is his cover skills that are good, why don’t we move him to saftey maybe i mean he can hit like a linebacker some times and he wont always be by the linemen to get hurt by them so why not move him to saftey, it actually makes good sense to me to make him a strong saftey.

iam goin to the game, iam pumped LETS GO BRONCOS

  9. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

We’re a bad matchup for the Jets. Their weakness is in the secondary (which obviously the Titans couldn’t exploit). Thus, if Jay makes good decisions and we don’t turn the ball over, we’ll be 7-5.

  10. lynch4prez says:

bullridinmike: safety and linebacker are two very different positions dude, i dont think theres a linebacker in the league who can try make that transition and be successful.. what i hope they do is situational subs and keep everyone fresh.. but i think everyone will agree keep DJ on at all times

  11. broncos20 says:

oh,just relating to lynch4prez’s commetn, I think Bigby was a former LB in college,,was he?yes you’re totally right about the situational subs…we’d like to see Woodyard and Winborn as often as we see DJ
mmm,,I dont know about boss at safety, besides he’s out the whole year and we might see an aggressive draft and free agency next year for Defense.
    anyways, happy thanks giving everyone.

  12. MileHighMagic08 says:

Larsen is a great linebacker, but that’s it, oh yeah an a great fullback. There is no way he would make a good safety, he just doesn’t have the speed. Woodyard would make a better safety than Manuel and he runs a 4.5. I would love to see Paymah play alonside Barrett. Both have speed, Barrett has size and Paymah has shown he can tackle, ask Fargas. Throw in DJ,Larsen, and Winborn to start, then sub out to keep the players fresh.

Happy Thanksgiving to all in the Bronco Family!!! Enjoy your day(s) with your Families!! Let’s take care of business on Sunday and show the Country who the real Broncos are !!! Good Luck in New York!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  14. C2 says:

The only way we are going to beat the Jets is if…….
OFFENSE: Double team Kris Kenkins, get Bell and Hillis going, DON’T turn the ball over. Have Marshall, Royal, and Stokely involved.
DEFENSE: Limit Thomas Jones and pressure Favre cause if we do Brett will throw a few up for grabs.
ST: Don’t allow the “Big Play” by Washington cause he is amazing.
    Play with passion! Go Broncos!
    Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!!

  15. baileythebronco says:

atari bigby has always played strong safety but good try he seems vesitable

  16. hotsizzle says:

Our special teams are going to be the reason we lose this game. If they can play well we will have a chance.

  17. oldsouthstander says:

One thing the Broncos have going for them is something very few have thought about. The starting time was changed. It;ll be three hours later than the Jets are used to and the starting time the Broncos are used to.

  18. broncfan99 says:

the only hope we have of winning this game is to presure farve and force him to make mistakes if champ comes back this week then we do that by blitzing our lbs and running line stunts.our d isnt going to stop them but if we get turnovers and a few stops from our d then cutler and our o will do what they need to do and we will win this game and CRUSH THE JETS…..LETS GET IT DONE GO FOR THE WIN BRONCOS FAN 4 LIFE
