Tim Tebow attracts a crowd wherever he goes.
Whether he’s in Arizona — where the away crowd chanted his name even though he spent the game on the sidelines holding a clipboard — or at INVESCO Field at Mile High, you can bet the eyes of thousands are trained on the rookie quarterback.
With two NFL starts under his belt, Tebow will have another group of observers leading up to this weekend’s home game against the Chargers. San Diego’s coaching staff will devote a fair share of their week dissecting game tape of Tebow as they develop their game plan.
“I think we have an advantage over what Houston had,” Chargers Head Coach Norv Turner said in a Wednesday conference call.
“We have a lot of tape on him. He played awfully well, and they really opened it up in the second half when they got behind, so we have a pretty good exposure to look at.”
Turner speculated that his team will have to defend plays from Tebow that did not show up during the Broncos’ 24-23 comeback victory against Houston last week, and Interim Head Coach Eric Studesville agreed.
Tebow’s coaches have scrutinized the signal-caller’s performance as well. Studesville said the offense’s options will continue to grow as Tebow becomes more comfortable running the scheme.
As opponents develop their attack based on Tebow’s previous performance, the quarterback’s coaches will attempt to tailor more and more plays to his strengths.
“People are going to throw more at him,” Studesville said. “We are giving him more, so hopefully we are giving him more ammunition to be able to counteract some of those things, but every game that people have more tape on him they look at things that they may want to try to stop him from doing or think that we may want to do with him.”
Studesville said that as Tebow continues to take more reps, his experience will equip him to deal with the unexpected schemes he might face. Every play is a learning experience.
Tebow said now that he’s in the game, he can pick up more than Xs and Os.
“There is nothing necessarily like playing and having those real reps,” he said. “Going through mistakes and going through the good things that I did and being able to feel that out and understand, ‘OK, this is the timing of this and this is how I have to do it.’”
Daniel Graham has already observed Tebow’s progression through the quarterback’s first two starts. He said he expects to see a more polished performance from the rookie in the last week of the season.
“I expect him to be a lot better than the first two,” Graham said. “He’s improved from his first game and I expect him to improve from his last game and see where he made his mistakes, where he can get better and where he can help his team.”
LLOYD’S LESSON
A lesson learned at the University of Illinois helped lead Brandon Lloyd to his first Pro Bowl season.
In a Wednesday press conference, Lloyd credited Ron Turner — his old college coach and the brother of San Diego’s head coach — with instilling in him one of the values required of an effective wide receiver. When Lloyd’s college quarterback was leaving the team, Turner delivered a message that stuck with the receiver throughout his eight-year NFL career.
“Coach Ron Turner called me in the office and says, ‘Hey, I can have my daughter (at quarterback), you just need to be where you need to be when you are supposed to be there.’ So, I have been just carrying that with me my entire career,” Lloyd said.
The league’s leader in receiving yards emphasized that he simply tries to be where he’s supposed to be and make it easy on whoever might be throwing him the ball. Lloyd has posted 100-yard receiving games with two different quarterbacks under center this season, and he said he’s always confident he can make the tough catch in any situation.
He’s played for two different head coaches, too, but Lloyd has been a rock.
“He is a receiver that I totally trust,” Tebow said. “When I have an opportunity to put it up for him, I am going to take advantage of that, because he just goes out there and makes plays every week and he is tough to cover.”
When the 2011 Pro Bowl rosters were announced yesterday, Lloyd said he was “shocked” and “humbled.” He said he had dreamed of taking the trip to Honolulu to partake in the NFL’s perennial All-Star game since he was little.
He does not play down the honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne. With one week left in the season, he has more receiving yards than both of them.
In Denver he found what eluded him in San Francisco, Washington and Chicago.
“I am humble because this is what I asked for. I asked for more opportunities and I got them, and it worked,” Lloyd said.
“Being selected to the Pro Bowl, it was the most humbling experience of my life — in my professional career.”

Dont bring the Marshall fanatic out of me bay, cuz we can go there LOL..all I will say is congrats to lloyd.
Was salty about the Cutler deal and would still be but we have Tebow now and im excited for Tebow….its crazy last year I wanted Tebow but I was like we still had cutler and then the cutler fiasco happened and tebow didnt declare…and we woulda been too low to get him anyway (this was before tebow scrutiny)….Either way glad we got him. Im over it as well….never will be over the Marshall trade, cuz too me it was still a bad move and SOMEONES ego was on a wrecking mission lol
Actually I watch the games at Shooters at the train depot in Cedar Park North of Austin.
And I’ll be there Sunday for our late game of course and the Texan fans will be there to watch theirs too since it’s on at the same time, so I’ll be keeping an eye on that screen too.
GO JAGUARS!!!!!
For all you guys hoping that the texans lose (I am too, want dennison and kubiak back) I hope our strength of schedule is weaker than theirs cuz if they lose and we win…they tied with us for a good pick lol
It is:
Houston, 527
Us, 507
goodness there has been alot of posts since yesterday afternoon! took me about a half hour to get caught up!
Melo – You know that went up on my facebook too haha. Bay I have to agree with you on Studs. But hey he’s doing what works for now. I was very moved at the beginning though when he told Tim, “All we need is you, just you” or something to that extent. Studs has it in him to be a HC. Like the rest of you, I want someone with more credentials but would love to have him in the organization in some lower capacity. He has impressive leadership qualities and you gotta give him credit for giving Tebow this opportunity.
Yeah we had so much fun last night with the “strandoftds wife now with Caramelloo” thing, I almost died from laughing so hard. That’s what this blog is best for to me, laughing medicine when the season goes to the toilet.
Yeah, Studs is ok, but at this point if he somehow was kept at HC, which I don’t believe for a minute, we would yet have another guy on training wheels as HC, we need to get off being the training grounds for others to learn the trade, we need someone who at the very list is a coordinator. As far as Studs getting back his RB coach status or something along those lines is a yet another tricky decision if we do intend to go back to the zone scheme which I think we should because Studs was brought here specifically for the power scheme. It’s never as simple as it seems in this complicated business the NFL is…
melloo – that was a great piece on Tim Tebow!!
We’ll certainly have fun heckling Cutler at the stadium next year when the Bears come to town. It will be a fun game to watch. Woody’s article is the first of what I’m sure will be plenty more hype to come next year.
I don’t forsee any of the fans wearing diapers again, in reference to Cutler but you never know…. lol!
Cutler is not off the hook about what he said about us Denver Broncos fans!!!!!
Ya, yall made a sport of me. LMAO too. The Bronco`s are my best friend right now HaHa!
I wonder if the Bronco, Bears game next year may end up a MNF game? But you know, since Cutler is in Chicago now for two years and McD was just 86, I can see Tim Tebow and Jay Cutler shaking hands and shooting the breeze before the game next year. That would be cool I think. Just saying.
I`ve got a friend out hear who is a big Bears fan. He really doesn`t think much of Cutler. He doesn`t like him at all.
Tebow’s a class act and I’m sure they’ll have their pre-game greetings.
Ya, I don`t think Cutler is that big of a jerk to shrug off Tim. It`ll be a good machup.
Hey guys…came across this on DenverPost.com about Champ…
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_16974528?_requestid=6489364
It all depends upon who the next HC is, and decide along with Pat Bowlen, Joe Ellis, John Elway, And Brian Zanders too. And of course if Champ feels good about the Bronco`s future. With Tim Tebow starting at QB now, Champ might have a change of heart. It also depends on who we bring in as our DC. That may be the deciding factor along with Tebow progressing.
Hahaha @ Born and Raised, we must both be friends with the Broncos Zone, Mile High Report, or this site on Facebook.
royalbronc I’ve already watched it about 7 times. I love his interaction with everyone. “No one else touches the ball when we get down there!” That line is sooooooo awesome!!
Mello, I also like what he says to the players in the huddle. TRUST ME, OK!
strand it’s funny that you say that bc I myself said “Ok” while sitting on the sofa. Hahahaha! I also liked how he was joking with the guys from the other team. What’s up Tennessee! Hey Pollard what’s up with all of the Purdue guys on the field. Purdue doesn’t roll like that!! Hahaha Now I see why Saints fans love Drew Brees so much. Both are good people and very likeable and easily hateable if that’s a word.
Now that`s football. Talk about fire and respect in the same terms. FUN!
Mello, So when are you coming out to Colorado. And when you all do have a blast out hear. GO BRONCOS!!
I’m abou to start packing in a few. We leave bright and early tomorrow morning and I can’t wait. I’ve been to Denver many times but had never been to a Broncos game.
So baylin, when you say enjoy Sundays game cuz that might be it till 2012, you’re still rooting for a loss??? Strange logic! Lol
Chicago in Denver. Count me in!!!
Two Brandons. Two probowl seasons in Denver. That debate will go on for a long time. While Lloyds numbers made most of us forget the other, there is still (and always will be) a part of me thinking we got the shaft in that deal. And not that I make it a habit of sticking up for players from other teams (Hillis…ahem) if Marshall had half a QB, things might be just a tad different!
Orton to Miami???? Just a thought!
Be ready melloo, it’s going to be pretty darn cold here over the next few days! My suggestion for the game would be to get some of those hand warmers and toe warmers that you can stick inside your gloves and shoes…they make a huge difference! Hope you like snow
Safe travels!
I♥Tebow thanks for the warning and yes I looooooove snow and cold weather. My wife got those sticks you’re talking about a month ago. I found that out Saturday when I found out about the trip. Sunday we went to Academy and got our layers in preparation for the cold. It was in the 30′s here in New orleans on Sunday so we put on our gear and went sat outside for a while. Just to test it out.
Plus I’m sooooooooooo amped that I’ll be on a super Denver Broncos Colorado high!! Hahahah
Mello, You and your family are gonna love it. And when that stadium gets going, it`s thunderous. You`ll never forget it. God, I get excited just mentioning it. GOOOOOO BROOOONCOOOOS!!!!!!
Thanks strand and I know I can’t even imagine what it’s like. I’ve stood in front of the old Mile High stadium during the off season a few times, and always wondered what it was like to be in there. I’m just glad I’m blessed with this up coming weekend.
The first year of Shannys HC career for the Denver Bronco`s we played the raiders on MNF. Before that game the Bronco`s lost to them 0-12 in a row. Thats 6 complete years against them we lost. Well, that game started a new are and the tables turned starting with that game. Not only did we win, the Bronco`s shut them out 27-0. By the middle of the fourth qaurter, we where stomping our feet at THE OLD MILEHIGH and I swear it was like a earthqauke we where so loud. By the way The Bronco`s won the next10 games against them after that. The next day after the game, my buddy that I went to the game with recorded the game. In that fourth qaurter I remember Al Michaels saying, THIS IS NO EARTHQAUKE FOLKS. THIS IS MILEHIGH AT IT`S FINEST. Dude, the cameras where shaking back and forth it was so thunderous and the stadium was really rockin. Everyone went nuts when the clock was at 000, game over. I`ll never forget that experience. Never!
Good point, Bay it is a very complicated situation with Studs. And don’t get me wrong I don’t want to have another fledgeling HC doing OJT – and neither does Pat Bowlen, lucky for us. Nor would I want keep him around at any other position if the it can’t benefit the current scheme – and since “current” is still in the future in this case who knows. I just wish the guy luck. Did anyone catch Brian Billick’s interview on the ticket? Pretty interesting stuff. He brings a very good perspective on our coaching situation. Of all the Super Bowl winning HC’s I would put him second after Gruden for who I’d want over here. Definitely more class than Cowher. Have fun at the game Melo! No matter the outcome I am certain it will be more fun the my first game – the infamous Black Sunday!
