Saturday’s scrimmage at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium served as more than just a well-attended first chance to go full speed.
It also got the players ready for the Broncos’ trip to Chicago to take on the Bears on Thursday. Certain aspects of the game simply can’t be replicated at the team’s practice facility at Dove Valley.
“It gave us an ‘ante up’ for next week,” safety Rahim Moore said. “We were getting used to the fan base, having coaches on the sideline, getting the calls in early and late. It was a good simulation for next week’s game.”
Linebacker Von Miller said that between now and Thursday evening’s date with the Bears, the players will have just the right amount of time to recover from Saturday’s live scrimmage, and more importantly, be ready for Chicago.
“Rest a little bit, get our bodies back right,” Miller said. “And get ready to go out there and play in Chicago — get it started.”
With the start of the preseason looming larger every day, safety Mike Adams said that Saturday’s scrimmage moves the team one step closer to the time of year that the players live for—the regular season.
“Us vets, we always think like that,” Adams said. “This is my ninth year. I’m ready for it to be for real. I’m ready for this thing to get going.”
For the Broncos’ rookies, Saturday afternoon was their introduction to what an NFL stadium sounds like. But playing in front of the fans also benefited a handful of players who have long since become accustomed to the noise level of the National Football League.
“I think it’s very beneficial,” quarterback Peyton Manning said about the scrimmage. “Any time we can get into these game-like experiences, it’s important. I know we’re looking forward to learning from it and trying to be better against Chicago on Thursday.”

DB what Manning lacks in versatility, he makes up for in his knowledge of defenses. Yes, I know he does not move around like Aaron Rodgers, but he does when it counts. I have seen him run for first downs plenty. But he is not as mobile as his brother and definitely not nearly as much as his father. But he knows what Rodgers does not… see, if the Packers had Rodgers run or if he had chosen to run in the playoffs the results of that game would have been different. I had been calling for him to run the whole game because the Giants didn’t have an answer for it… he didnt rub and they lost the game.
Peyton knows more about football than anyone on the planet. And he can get the ball out and to his receiver ridiculous fast. That helps us almost as much as having. A mobile QB. But it will take getting used to, that’s for sure.
Peyton knows we née a running game. That’s why he chose us… He knows we have a good system in place. Aaron Rodgers, when asked about his running game said “do we need one?” his football iq is not that of Peyton’s because YES HE DOES!!! it was evident in the game against the Giants, but it’s better for us if they don’t learn that. We have a successful running game that will make up for not having such a mobile QB IMO

Great to finally be back. Took some time off for some vacation time and the summer is always busy with people getting married and crap like that. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, but I am definitely ready for the season to start. Twins…stink…Olympics…getting old, I’m ready for some Broncos Football!
Stinks about Fannin, was hoping he’d be able to contribute this season. That guy might have a tough road ahead of him making it in the league.
What did I miss? Carter is out? I am really out of the loop. What happened?
Welcome back Brian. I’ve been gone too so I don’t know how long you’ve been gone, but glad to have you back. I’ve been reading the blogs through the mobile app but you can see or leave comments. Still think it’ll be a bit odd going through the season without Bay. He was usually the conversation starter. Is anyone doing a record predicting contest?
3rdG- QCarter is hurt, we don’t know the details, but we are all thinking it must be worse than we thought if they brought Leonhard in.
I think the Leonard signing was necessary and a good pick up. I know we got some young guys who stepped up, but we also had Dawkins back there helping them. I think Leonard will provide a veteran presence and help the young guys. If I remember correctly he used to return punts and kicks, a position in which I’m not sure who would get that responsibility. Hopefully not Decker or DMT, for God’s sake PLEASE not either one of them!
*Leonhard*
Brian I’m with you. Still don’t necessarily like the pick, but I want him running kicks and punts back b4 Deck and DMT do it!
I think we’ll see Caldwell returning.
If Carter IS out the signing of Leonhard doesn’t bode well for Moore. It’s basically telling him you’re not ready to start. We could have brought in a journeyman safety to back Moore up if they thought he was ready. Leonhard is a starting S (but I will forever remember Tebow beating him outside on that game winning run against the Jets). Has anyone commented or heard about where our CB’s stand in the spot for #2? I’m also interested in where they see Chris Harris fitting.
3rdG- depth chart comes out today.
First female ref on Thursday (SD & GB) people!!! This is awesome, IMO!!!!
I think the Jim Leonhard signing was more of an insurance policy if we suffer any other injuries with our Safeties, or if Carter has any set backs from his surgery. It will provide more competition once he gets healthy, but I don’t think it means he definitely makes this team IMO.
Depth chart is out on the website! Safety position is interesting to me and I hate Decker being first on punt/kick returns.
Decker punt returns, oops, not both.
Here it is:http://www.denverbroncos.com/team/depth-chart.html
So much about that depth chart im not liking lol
Interesting to see Hunter at starting DE, but I read something to suggest that in the DP, so not a major surprise there.
I’m not crazy about Ball or Willis being #2 at their respective positions.
I really hope Bruton or Leonhard can beat out Bush for that last Safety spot.
I do not like Decker being used on punt returns, major mistake IMO.
Just remember its the first one. Let’s see what happens after Thursday!
This brought a HUGE smile to face today…..

Depth chart out. Biggest surprise for me is Hunter over Ayers. Also suprised to see Moore and Carter listed as starting safties. Thought Adams would be in there at one of the spots.
*smile to my face
I dont like Willis or Hill being 2 or 3 at the WR spot behind DMT
Dont like Ball at 2. Think Hillman would be better at 2 and JJ or Omon before Ball.
I do like that Irving is listed as the backup SLB
Surprised to see Jackson and Garland listed as DT instead of DEs.
Dont like that Carter is beating out Squid for that CB spot
Dont like Bush ahead of Bruton Leonhard or even Ihenacho
Hate Ball returning kicks…….we dont need to give Fumbles more chances to well fumble
Dont like Decker at PR. Hes to valuable on offense to risk there.
Agreed Cat, it’s only the first one. There’s going to be a lot of movement once we start getting some preseason games going.
Gaaaaah!!! I’m just excited we have a depth chart. Like that Peyton’s #1! LOLOLOLOL
OT, awesome! Fights happen, though. Hilarious that it involved twenty people and Rex had to stop it!
So I guess during camp Ryan Harris has been seeing most time as #2 LT though hes listed as #2 RT and Chris Clark is the opposite seeing most time as #2 RT but listed as #2 LT
It’s weird. There’s a lot of positions that I think are backwards from what I’ve seen in camp or heard in camp.
I know, not a big deal, but it just shows how every little thing will be reported on by the media, now that they’ve asked for all this attention. Should get really interesting when the adversity of a long season begins to set in…..
I’m looking forward to seeing Osweiler getting some quality reps in these upcoming games! I’m really excited about him!
Yea it is only first one. Cant wait to see the next one to see the progression and all the changes on the chart.
Does anyone know when the 1st NFL mandated cut date is?
Not sure AB!
I am really excited about Os too OT… He seems to be very serious about his position as our future QB.
OT I cant wait to see Os as well and especially when Robinson is lined up as WR. That can look really good I think ince they are so used to one another.
August 28 rosters have to be cut down to 75 and Sept 2nd to 53 and Sep 3rd teams can sign their PS members.
I’m a little disappointed on how little is being written about Osweiler, as this is the time that we get to learn about our younger guys. Everything that I have read has been positive, including his ability to check down after going through his progressions.
OT… He is writing tons of notes I heard. I kind of would like an interview with him just so I can gauge what he’s feeling and where he thinks he’s at. I know it’s not normal to interview backups unless you’re the Jets, but I’d like to know…
Some guy on twitter thinks they are all listed alphabetically. Anyone have time to look and research that? ;-P
Doubt it Cat, look no further than Ayers being listed at #2
Anyway, after seeing what the Cards gave up for Kolb, there is no doubt how important a starting QB is in this league. Kolb will most likely never live up to what the Cards paid for him, and if Osweiler can be our QB of the future, when all we gave up was a middle 2nd rounder for him, that would be amazing!
OT, ok… Didn’t have time to check.
The Cardnals hate us. They would’ve given Peyton anything to play there! LOL poor Larry Fitzgerald. ;-(
I know what you mean about Os though.
I didn’t check either, but I knew Ayers was listed as a second stringer..
This is going to be interesting!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait til Thursday
Since I’m liviung in the middle of nowhere inMichigan’s UP, I need to watch the Broincos preseason games via NFL network. Doews anybody lknow when NFL netwoirk plans to rebroadcast the Broncos/Bears game???
Justin Bannan starting at defensive tackle? Not a good sign.
OSS For me its on Thursday night at 8 pm AK time. But that may be different for you. I would check NFL.com for their TV listings which should tell you when itd be.
I really hope the crazies are treating these guys the same way they treated Elway…..

Broncos plan to sign Keith Brooking per Adam Schefter.
Sounds like a solid, veteran signing.
Denver just signed Kieth Brooking to a 1 year deal.
Nice! I love the Brooking signing. Mays is our week link!
*weak
Its the first depth chart, for the first preseason game. They have to release something no matter who it has where. It will change a lot before the regular season starts. Stop reading so much into it!
