Submit Your Questions for ‘Elway Live’

January 2nd, 2012 - 6:08pm by Kenny Legan

For the first time in six years, the Denver Broncos are in the postseason. As a result, ‘Elway Live’ returns Tuesday at 2 p.m. MST for a special playoff edition.

Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway will join Broncos TV’s Chris Hall for the live, online-streamed audio broadcast on DenverBroncos.com. Elway and Hall will breakdown the team’s loss to Kansas City and look ahead to the Broncos home playoff game Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The show is 30 minutes long and features fan-submitted questions for Elway.

Questions are currently being taken via Twitter and will continue to be taken during the show. To submit your questions, tweet using the hashtag #ElwayLive.

After the show, the broadcast will be archived to DenverBroncos.com and will also be available as a podcast through iTunes.

To listen to any episode, visit www.DenverBroncos.com/ElwayLive.

On 9NEWS KUSA-TV’s show Monday night, Elway talked about the mixed emotions of the team after losing to the Chiefs yet still getting a spot in the playoffs.

“We’re in and that’s the thing,” Elway said. “I think everybody’s disappointed at how we played yesterday and I think that’s the bigger cause of being downbeat about where we are because of how we played. But if you look at the beginning of the year and where we started and what our goals were, to be able to win the division, we got that done. It’s a positive.”

Hey olap, how is Shanny doing?

  2. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yea weathereman, I still have your email from the 8th of November.

Bay, Any gaurantees? hmmm … thats a good one. After my gaurantee last week went south maybe i should gaurantee a loss this week and see how that goes. Quite frankly I was right about the chiefs, they do sucks, I just however overestimated our offensive capabilities, altho asking for at least 1 td didn’t seem like asking to much …. anywho heres a gaurantee for you. All this funny play was just to lul playoff teams to sleep … the truth is they have been practicing a new set of 6 plays that they plan to recycle thru the playoffs. They couldn’t use them in the reg season or they would have no trump card in the playoffs … so with that I gaurantee, 3 sacks, 1 INT.

Not to well, but until another Broncos coach give me a ring/s he will always be my guy.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Ha, the famed 6 plays, so we are up to 12 now, fantastic.

  5. Sutphin15 says:

Why not put Tebow in the shotgun and spread the field (5 wide) against this “nasty” steeler’s defense? Don’t force him to throw, but let him throw. You have the ability to make this happen and I feel as a true Broncos fan this could be the only route to go when facing such a defense. The Steelers have always been able to stop the run and it shouldn’t be any different come Sunday. Honestly, they have no one who can cover Thomas one on one and a few “up for grab” passes his way would be an advantage to the Broncos. Let’s force the Steelers out of their “8 in the box” scheme and attack them them in such a way they are obviously not prepared for. Set the tone! If we can establish any kind of passing game whatsoever, this will also open up more of the running game. Basically, please don’t live and die by the run this weekend, because it just won’t happen. Especially against the Steelers. You need to confuse this defense and strike fast and early. Keep the pressure on their offense, not ours! Unfortunately, I have to live in the Pittsburgh area. But, the upside, I know their strengths and weaknesses. Trust me, if you confuse this defense, they won’t be able to rebound quick enough in 60 minutes. I know football and I’ve always dreamed of being a coach. If you had me as offensive coordinator this week, I promise you I could beat this team. Forget about the play action, because Tebow needs to keep his head forward at all times. They will be bringing the house which will leave somebody open. Trust me! Shotgun formation, spread the field, and “quick” decisions will beat this team!
Refer back to the Steelers blitzing the Patriots a few ago. Watch that game film! The Broncos, may be the underdog, but you can honestly come up with an offensive gameplan to bury these guys…I truly believe this!
    Trust me!

Shanny was mainly lucky to have Elway and TD, not to mention Sharpe, Rod Smith and many others. Give him average players and he has never in his entire coaching career been able to get anything done with them. I wish him all the luck in Washington but glad we moved on. Not with great results I’ll give you that, haha.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

There is a huge hiccup to your plan, Tebow cannot make quick decisions whatsoever, other than that it sounds good, LOL.

  8. buck484 says:

I have to think that the writing on the wall for Manning reads: Retire. I don’t think we will change Qbs at the beginning of next season until we see if an offseason with JE can turn him around. That all goes out the window if we are able to sign a quality veteran qb.

  9. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Easier Christopher. Im sure we have been tryign to get teams out of the 8man in the box formation. Fortunately for us, I believe the Steelers do more zone.zone blitzes than they do man … so Tebow will have some windows … not unless like other teams they switch completely to exclusively man to force tebow to make the tight throws.

The only thing I want from tebow is to checkdown … he looks down the field too much. I remember one game the rbs had to tell him, don’t forget u can check down to us. May not net alot but will be a completion and make the next down managable and hopefully gain a lil confidence. Tebow completely ignores his check downs … i dunno if they tell him deep or nothing but the few times we have udnerneath routes … he completely ignores them. Its not all about the homerun ball tebow. Especially now that he got picked off alot against the bills when he thought his receivers were open … I believe he will keep hesitating until he gets some kind of confidence back. Maybe the coaches need to let him know that an INT while not what we want, is not the end of the world.

  10. brian_schneider says:

Maybe that’s Tebow’s problem..he’s thinking “too” much instead of just throwing the ball.

  11. olap2009 says:

Dan Reeves, had all but TD and he could not do it but my man Mike did not luck, just good, Back -to-Back Rings, YA BABY! he got um.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

The 97-98 squads resembled nothing of the Reeves era squads talent wise, the 98 team was by far the best Bronco team overall ever assembled, but Shanny did us good and I’ll forever be grateful but I take his coaching with a grain of salt.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

And Washington needs a lot of salt right now, haha.

  14. allen#85 says:

Guys, Tebow helped our team reach the playoffs, granted he had A LOT of help. Sure, he may play like crap most of the time, but usually when the team really needed him he made those big plays. His past few games I believe he did horribly because he was trying too hard to make a big play. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not behind him 100%, but when we were supposed to get a top 5 pick and everyone thinking Denver being in the playoffs was hilarious, Making it was a HUGE accomplishment. For that I believe Tebow has earned the right to start next season, but it is his to lose. If he uses his legendary work ethic and becomes a better passes and learns the offense better, he will become better, and make the Broncos a formidable team. Think about it, If Tebow improves and actually becomes a threat then our team is SO much better. You have Tebows dual threat, and the opposing defenses won’t be able to stack the box anymore, Plus our #1 rushing attack behind a young O line that will only get better, plus GREAT special teams, and a mostly young D that should improve as well, and hopefully a good draft and a few solid FA pickups. That equals John Fox’s ‘dream team’ lol, they could make a solid playoff run.

  15. olap2009 says:

Yes they do, good one baylinorcrush,

  16. 1nOnlyTRB says:

what I meant to say to christopher in the first line was

    “easier said than done Christopher”

Not unless our TEs fine some new life we will keep struggling. alot easier to complete a pass on a LB than a CB … thats why them young QBs love the TEs.

And i didn’t watch on sunday but did they do more RB screens, felt they hadn’t don any in a long time.

  17. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Its so funny that Ryan Harris is back … left us for the dream team … probably thought he was going to the superbowl (or at least the playoffs) but which team is he in the playoffs with instead? thats right, the broncos. Take that to the bank Harris. LOL … I wonder if he will play RG or RT, Franklin is doing ok … no need to throw the rookie off by bringing him inside.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Actually that sutphin post was supposed to be reassuring but after he said all we have to do to beat the Steelers is play fast strikes from the shotgun formation and the fact that Brady has one of the fastest delivery around and all he could score against the Steelers this year is 15 points in a 27-15 loss is a scary thought. Instead or reassured I’m just a little more freaked out now, LOL.

  19. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Im still amazed the patriots scored liek 49 unanswered points against the bills. Lord

  20. baylinorcrush says:

I like what allen said (wow lots of newbies lately), if Tebow can learn to become the pocket passer that Elway wants him to be, he will become a tremendous dual threat. But at this stage it’s obviously still a pipe dream.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

    It’s now official:

Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin has made his decision.

Starting free safety will not play Sunday for the Steelers in a Wild Card playoff game here in Denver against the Broncos. Tomlin said in a news conference today that he spoke with Clark on Monday to tell him he would not be allowed to play.

“It was an easy decision for us. When looking at all of our data we came to the determination he is at more risk so we are not going to play him. It’s that simple,” Tomlin told reporters today in Pittsburgh.

    Smart decision.

  22. brian_schneider says:

Yeah his life is worth more than one playoff game. Don’t blame Tomlin at all, but it’s gotta be hard on Clark.

  23. buck484 says:

Clark not playing. Does this mean Tebow throws long all game?

  24. olap2009 says:

Let’s just hope that Clark replacement does not make it haed on Denver.

  25. olap2009 says:

    I mean hard, no haed

  26. killerkod says:

TT can prob throw long all day………….actually hitting the receiver is a different story…………….lol

  27. killerkod says:

It’s really been bugging me how TT handles the ball when he’s scrambling……….essentially holding it out there like an invitation to be fumbled.

If you’re gonna scramble, take care of the ball…………

If there’s nothing “open”, and yes I mean that sarcastically, then at least throw it away and stop trying to be superman and taking dumb sacks all the time.

  28. buck484 says:

    Turner staying in SD.

  29. shaztah says:

    Broncos 17
    Steelers 13

  30. killerkod says:

I’m really surprised Norv is still there…………

The Chargers biggest mistake this year was letting Sproules leave……..he’s an impact player and is really helping the Saints.

  31. killerkod says:

    one positive thing……….

Big Ben has been prone to throwing INTs so maybe we get lucky and get a couple TOs and possibly even a pick six. I think we’ll need the scoring from the D. lol

  32. buck484 says:

If Von, Doom, or Dj can put some pressure on Ben we have a chance, if not, long day.

  33. HardHitting27 says:

Problem with your thinking killer, while Big Ben is prone to throwing picks, it usually only occurs when he’s pressured.

So our D coordinator needs to bring the heat and the guys on the field need to find a way to get to him.

  34. brian_schneider says:

That’s one thing that I’ve been rather disappointed with this season, is takeaways on defense. When we do get takeaways seems like we don’t do much with them. I think in order for us to win this game we need the defense to score some points for us..essentially outscoring our offense.

  35. killerkod says:

    I hear ya hardhitting………….

and from what I’ve watched the last three games, it seems as though our pass rush has regressed and is almost non-existant. I mean, we wouldn’t even lay the wood on Orton like I thought we could….and that’s just sad.

  36. killerkod says:

and I don’t know how many errant passes have hit our defenders in the chest and dropped to the ground for incompletions…….

    UGH!

  37. seeker217 says:

    1. Why does John Fox use the teams time outs.
    2. Why don’t we use our tight ends often
    3. Why don’t we play simple football short passes first down pickups
    4. What about putting Tebow as a receiver option
    5. Why don’t we bring back the wish bone set up
    6. Execute the flea flicker to perfection
    7. Have the LB help Bailey when the receiver enters the slot rather than having the safety assist in the coverage.

  38. buck484 says:

Has been an up and down season but I am thankful to be in the playoffs. If we win or lose there is also one other thing I’m thankful for. No Ryan’s in the playoffs.

  39. CarnageBronc says:

people are funny with the questions. I will answer seeker…since I have been developing good rapport with new people

    1. Tebow usually isn’t ready to run the play. Or the defense is in a bad set. Don’t know if anyone notices, but Tebow doesn’t or can’t audible. Grasp of the game is bad. SO when there is a problem, the coach has to handle it.

    2. They aren’t that good.

    3. Tebow reads poorly. Teams are playing bump and run. WR are not seperating. Tebow takes too long to throw.

    4. Uhhhh…this is real football not Madden. Tebow is slow.

    5. Because it is 2012

    6. Tebow messed that up. Ask Decker.

    7. Then who would the LB cover…that leaves the back wide open, also takes away one of our pass rushers.

  40. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

I’m sure you guys must have heard the news already — I haven’t had a chance to go through the blogs yet — but, Jacksonville is looking at McCoy for a head coaching job lol. (I think it’s jasksnvll) -Reported by the DP

  41. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

The Jaguars may not have hometown quarterback Tim Tebow on their roster, but they are willing to take a swing at the guy calling plays for Tebow.

The Jaguars, who fired Jack Del Rio Dec. 12 when the team had a 5-9 record, have asked the Broncos for permission to interview Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy to be the team’s head coach, according to an NFL source.

The Jaguars also have asked permission to interview Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey. Mularkey turned down the opportunity to interview with the Broncos last January.

McCoy has been with the Broncos since the start of the 2009 season and has called plays since Josh McDaniels was fired with four games remaining in the 2010 season.

  42. HardHitting27 says:

I would agree on all points Carnage made with the exception of number 1. I don’t believe it’s that Tebow can’t audible, he’s being told to run the play and nothing more. While he may not fully understand the offense, it’s the coaches and not him with regards to audibles. The timeouts are being used by Fox to preserve time in most cases, in order to maximize the time we have towards the end of games for possession.

While I question his time management at times it seems to be working for the most part this year.

There have been times a timeout was burned to help the O or the D though

  43. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Hopfully he can take his highscool playbook with him. Lol

  44. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    THEY CAN HAVE HIM!!!

  45. 1nOnlyTRB says:

New wish list … McCoy to become HC.

  46. HardHitting27 says:

So , with the firing of Spags in St louis, does that mean McD is going to be looking for work this offseason………… again?
McCoy HC and McD to OC…. the Jags are doomed!!!

  47. baylinorcrush says:

The one thing you all failed to address is if the Jags want McCoy now it’s because they want Tebow later. I know it doesn’t make much sense since the combo has been basically mediocre, but that’s how I see it.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

    Thanks for the info Royalty.

  49. baylinorcrush says:

Tebow with the Jags is a match made in heaven for the new Jag owner and would result in a monetary insurance against having to move the team.

  50. baylinorcrush says:

And I bet Tebow would be much happier there, the situation here is obviously weighing him down, over there he would be the man no matter what.
