The package of plays designed for Tim Tebow showcased a new wrinkle in Sunday’s win against Kansas City when the rookie quarterback tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Larsen.
Besides ensuring Tebow heads into Week 11 with a sparkling 118.8 passer rating, McDaniels said the play represents a natural progression for the package.
After a run in a similar situation earlier in the game on which Tebow scored a rushing touchdown, the coaching staff saw the Chiefs overplaying for the run and trusted Tebow to make the play with his arm.
“I think now everybody knows we will throw it with him,” McDaniels said. “It is just a matter of picking your spots there.”
The two-touchdown performance earned Tebow the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week Award for Week 10 – making him the first Bronco to take home the prize since Knowshon Moreno did so four times in 2009.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean Tebow will see more action going forward. The head coach said it is important to let the game plan dictate specific instances when Tebow might be most effective, such as around the goal line when his run-pass threat give the offense more options.
“I just think there is such a balance between taking out a guy who is having a really good season at quarterback and doing some really good things in our offense and putting someone else in to do the same thing,” McDaniels said. “I think there is a time and a place for that.”
Even if Tebow hasn’t had the opportunity to showcase his progression as a passer much in game situations since the preseason, McDaniels said Tebow is becoming a more consistent passer every week.
Running with the scout team each week offers him opportunities to make reads and attempt passes in game-like situations against a defense eager to make a play — even if it is his own teammates.
“He throws the ball against Champ (Bailey), (Brian) Dawkins and Renaldo (Hill) every week,” McDaniels said. “He has a great attitude about it and when he gets his opportunities to run our stuff, he takes advantage of those, too.”
For the second straight day, Andre’ Goodman (hip) did not practice on Friday.
Goodman has missed five games due to various leg injuries this season. The cornerback’s status for Sunday’s game has not yet been determined, but McDaniels made it clear on Friday morning that if the team thought Goodman would be out long-term, it likely would have already moved him to season-ending injured reserve.
“André is battling through some things, there is no doubt about it,” McDaniels said. “He’s doing everything possible every day to try to get back on the field as quickly as he can and when he’s healthy, we’ll look forward to playing him.”
Eddie Royal (hamstring) and Jamal Williams (non-injury) did not practice Friday and were new additions to the injury report. Darcel McBath (ankle) and Robert Ayers (foot) were limited for the second straight session.
For the Chargers, TE Antonio Gates (foot-toe) and RB Ryan Matthews (ankle) did not practice for the second straight day. S Steve Gregory (shoulder) also missed Friday’s session.
WR Malcom Floyd (hamstring), DE Travis Johnson (shoulder), WR Legadu Nanee (hamstring) and TE Kris Wilson (back) were limited in practice.
K Nate Kaeding (right groin) and LB Brandon Siler fully participated in practice.

I know! That’s why I said I read that it was what that guy imagined it and designed it! I figured it would just be nice to show y’all! I think it’s cool with some parts of the uniform but it looks to collegiate for the NFL! Definitely needs some changes with it but looking at just the jersey is awesome!! I just can’t wait for Bowlen to approve the orange change! He is crazy if he doesn’t because nearly every fan wants it changed back!
Strand…Hey man what’s going on!!! Just think about it, 6 days and I’ll be down there and we can meet up and you can get the tickets and we can eat or something and then on Sunday it is game time!! It is going to be sooo insane!! I really can’t remember when something took this long to get here before! Each day is feeling like a month! Christmas wasn’t even close to as bad as this is waiting for me to be down in Denver for my first home game!!! Man, it is going to be awesome!! I cannot wait!!
But first, we need to beat some A$$ on Monday night football! Man, me coming down there with us coming off a Monday night win would be just amazing!

On another note, I listened to McD’s interview today and it sounded like he said that Royal was added to the injury report yesterday but that he was going to practice today?? I don’t know if anyone else heard that or if I was just dreaming! Just letting everyone know what I heard!

MUCH love for the classic logo!!! I’ve grown to love the new – hell, my son recognizes it as “the Bronco horsey head” wherever it pops up – but I would have no problems with the classic logo return and must defend its awesomitude!!
