On Monday, Interim Head Coach Eric Studesville said Kyle Orton will start Sunday in Oakland.
Studesville went on to say that he and the coaching staff would continue to examine a variety of factors to decide which mix of players across the roster will give his team the best chance to beat the Raiders.
“We’re going to look at everything today,” Studesville said. “We have two days to gameplan and look and talk as an organization about what we want to do. If that’s the direction that we decide to go and we feel is best for us, then we’ll make that decision. Right now, we still have to look at everything and get ready and go from there.”
Orton finished Sunday’s 44-13 loss in Arizona 19-of-41 passing for 166 yards with three interceptions. The quarterback, who threw 20 passing touchdowns in the team’s first 11 games, was held without a passing score for the second straight week.
After the loss, Orton took responsibility for the offense’s sluggish performance in recent weeks and vowed to improve in the Broncos’ final three games. But on Monday, Studesville defended the sixth-year veteran by pointing out the various factors that influence the passing attack, such as pass protection and route running.
“It’s 100 percent a team effort — to just put it solely on him I don’t think is 100 percent right,” Studesville said. “But again, we’re all going to take responsibility for what is happening. The last few weeks, we haven’t done those things.”
Studesville said 2010 first-round pick Tim Tebow is “in the equation” and would be prepared to start if the staff deems that he would give the team the best chance to win.
The interim head coach pointed to Tebow’s contributions on the field this season with four total touchdowns and his status as the backup quarterback for 11 of the team’s 12 games this season as indications of the rookie’s value to the team.
Tebow warmed up in the third quarter when Orton suffered a rib injury but did not see game action. On Monday, the backup quarterback, who estimated he gets ”a handful” of practice reps with the first-team offense each week, said he will keep trying to get better on the practice field to make sure he’s ready if called upon on game day.
The former Heisman Trophy winner acknowledged that he’s heard fans chanting his name during games but remains focused on doing what he can to help the team.
“I think you just try to handle it as best as possible,” Tebow said of his popularity amongst fans. “I really appreciate the support and that people are behind me. That means a lot, so I just do whatever I’m asked to do.”
A day after making his NFL head coaching debut, Studesville said he owes it to the organization and “the integrity of the game” to put the best product on the field — whether it comes to making a change at quarterback or another position.
“We’re going to make the decision that’s best for us overall as an organization and as a team,” Studesville said. “I’m going to certainly look to the input from everyone from (Broncos President and Chief Executive Officer) Mr. (Pat) Bowlen on down to the coaches and all of us that have been around to make that evaluation, if that’s what we need to do.”
MCCARTHY TO IR, DAVIS JOINS ACTIVE ROSTER
Kyle McCarthy was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his rookie season, Studesville said on Monday morning. Later in the day, the team announced that wide receiver Britt Davis has been promoted from the practice squad to fill the roster spot.
McCarthy, a safety, was injured on a kickoff on the final play of the first half on Sunday in Arizona.
Davis originally signed with the team on Aug. 5 and finished the preseason with four catches for 63 yards. The Northern Illinois product was waived on Sept. 4 and signed to the Broncos practice squad a day later.
In other injury news, the interim head coach said he is hopeful that Darcel McBath will be able to return Sunday in Oakland after missing the last three games due to injury. McBath traveled to Arizona and worked out on the field pregame before he was ultimately declared inactive for the game.
Studesville also said he would need to see how rehab goes over the next few days for other injured players, such as Brian Dawkins and Matt Prater, before making judgements about their availability this week.

TEBOW OR BUST!!
The Bronco Defense is now officially known as the Bronco Debacle, so whenever I say Bronco D from now on you’ll know what I’m referring to, haha.
Hey if he wants to start that bad,Hell throw him in there,I know he wants it,and he ain’t scared either, that goes to show you the kids got guts!!!
heh posted a pointless comment.
I believe Tebow, I can imagine the atmosphere playing as a Gator against the Seminoles is pretty damn intense.
I remember wearing my Nebraska hat to a Neb vs Mizzou in Columbia. Needles to say I no longer have that hat, or the darn shirt I was wearing for that matter.
Studs done said Ortons starting so quit getting us hyped up Bay.LOL.
Ok, ok, I’ll play nice…
and to imagine that Tebow also states that he thrives off of those who belittle and demean him.
I have no reason to believe he does not mean this too.
Crazy. 28.9 points a game. baffled.
Hey I’ll tell you one thing before I go to watch the game,Tebow used to come into Neyland stadium in Knoxville and kick our arses all over the place, all the while he was cooler than a damn cucumber!
He lives for big games!!!
I no longer can watch the team with Orton at the QB position…yesterday was just embarrasing.Until Tim is at QB Im not watching the team that I have loved for 20+ years….just sad.
I can’t believe they did not sit Orton when he got “dinged up” yesturday… Play him in the second half, I don;t expect him to start, but damn. These people are playing with my emotions.
Yeah, that means if we score 4 TD’s in a game we fall one point short of winning!!!
That would be a good coming out party. Can you imagine, Tim Tebows first start. At the black hole. Sounds cool to me. Lets annoint him now!!
lobodog, yeah, it must of felt like a lobotomy, haha.
Thats the truth.
ugghh. 20 years. Damn, why was I a rebelious little child. When I was 8, I decided I was a raiders fan. Just to tick off my fam. so that makes me a fan of 19 years.
Tebow is the answer to this problem but our coaches just don’t see it yet…
The truth in we score 4 TD`s and lose by one lousy point HaHa!!
I cant believe this, we got a 1st round qb who is just itching to give it a shot. He has an absolutley tremendous work ethic and and a winners attitude. He doesnt quit nor do I think he ever will. He has got a lot to prove and he knows it as well as the fans and even to other teams. Hes about the only one on the team who hasnt given up….. The Denver Broncos are pissing away a good oppurtunity to give a highly talented player a shot in the big leagues and I would imagine he is gonna want out and go else where to a team that will give him a shot.
I do have some interesting child hood memories though. My older brother would cry, every time the Broncos lost. As an adult I only seen him cry once and it was over a Bronco game. When the ball hit the ground to end Greenbay’s chances of a comeback.
Your playing the right tune Dog!
never mind. I was born a Broncos fan. so maybe if I could do math on Tuten’s level I would know how to calculate. 28 -1 = 27….
I love that story. You should wright a book. I`ll but it. LOL
Studs explaining why Orton is still the starter:
So, what’s holding Tebow back?
“Kyle was playing so well early in the year and has had a great year,” Studesville said.
Or how about 3.14=pie.
Booooring…….
I have followed Timmy since he was a Freshman and I’m tellin ya this guy will rally this team like no one ever has….this guy is a leader DEFINED and is just waiting for his chance. You will never see guys feed of another player’s energy like this guy!!!
agreed with lobodog
Well, football time, you kids be good, haha.
Ya, looking at Tebow on the sidelines, he looks like a Lion just to be let out of his cage. And he knows it. Ready to tear the NFL apart.
I`m there. TV time. Go Texans!!
I almost cant bear to watch the Broncos right now…. Its sad really
I agree that Tuten should go. Should’ve BEEN gone. Our team’s been injury plagued for what – four years now?
I have to agree with stevencan2 that the Mcdaniels conspiracy theory that he hired inexperienced staff so he wouldn’t get fired is ridiculous. He expected to win.
I have a crackpot conspiracy theory myself. Tell me what you guys think. Here goes: maybe Bowlen, with the idea that he’ll hire a tested HC soon, put one of the least qualified guys in charge specifically so that we’d lose games and climb up the draft pick ladder haha! It’s all in fun but the more I joke about it the less it sounds like a bad idea. Any loss we have under Studesville will be much easier to swallow for the fans because they know he’ll be gone soon, right? What would Bowlen have to lose?
TT Time!!
Why not?
FTR
I’d like to see Tebow cuz he was a firstrounder and the season is done for but I don’t care who starts I just want a balanced offense. you can’t throw 40-50 times run 20 or less and be balanced it pretty obvious what we are doing. In my opinion knowshon has been looking more and more like a great #12 choice so use him and balance out the offense a bit
KO is the starter! Can’t say that disappoints me. Even though it doesnt make any sense. I really hate the raiders, so if Stud thinks we have a better chance beating them with the incumbent, GO BRONCOS!!!
100% Raider Hater
Ha, it was nice seeing our coach in something other than a hoodie!!!
37-23. Not the Broncos. F.T.R
For our QB situation I think we need to start Tebow. Cut Quinn. And trade Orton for a draft pick. And then we can go back and get Brandstater as our backup QB.
Then our offense looks like this:
QB – Tebow and Brandy
RB – Moreno, White (once he returns healthy), and Ball
FB – Larsen
WR – Royal, Thomas, Lloyd, Decker, and maybe Gaffney
TE – Unknown cause they all kinda suck on the receiving end.
LT – Clady
LG – Beadles
C- Walton
RG – Kuper
RT – Harris
I think our offense would look pretty alright. Anyone agree?
All we would need is some TE help. And if thats all we need on offense as a “NEED NOW” pick, then we can focus on the defense side the entire draft. And that would be awesome.
Go Broncos!
Sunday sucked. 24-21 Broncos on Sunday.
Happy Raider Hater Days everyone!!! Wooo Hooo! Hate the Raiders, the BlackRats in the stinking Black Tank of a 1970 RV at the KOA campground in Oakland….!!!!
I HATE ME SOME OAKLAND RAIDERS…
I’LL NEVER FORGET BLACK SUNDAY!!!!!!
I stood there in row 20 in my orange #15 yelling and stomping the thunder until I lost my voice and damaged my acl. Later that night I got a partially crushed larnyx and seperated ribs grappling with my punk arse little brother Raiduh fan after the game…. It almost killed me, I’m too old for that stuff.. I need Tebow to do it for me …haha
ILMSDB!!!! IHMSOR!!!!
I was there on Black Sunday as well. It was my first live game in the NFL. I didn’t needany extra incentive to hate the Raiders but boy did I ever get it. The problem is the Broncos didn’t hate the Raiders enough that sunday.Considering what happened to us this week at the hands of another 3-9 team, I don’t know if any amount of zeal will be enough to get it done in there house. That’s reality folks. I think it’ll be tough to watch. I’ll be watching, regardless. And praying for a miracle.
*their house
LMAO @ Old Man OC… Welcome to the club buddy, haha.
games sucked. hey broncos born u know what? that makes a ton of sense. man i think you may be right. and its a good idea. whats the best way to get into the top 3 picks in next years draft? lose out. cant do that on purpose openly and the guy he could put in to do it as interim with the least chance of a future HC chance anyway is studs so he’s not hurtin his career, his team is losing for a ‘reason’, and we get our top 3 pick without looking like we did it on purpose. brilliant.
*Disclaimer* i’d do anything to come up with something good about what the broncos are doing. my logic may be stretched or just plain looney at times in an attempt to do it but imma do it anyway.
Fans will be fans and will stretch anything in their favor to the very end regardless, funny stuff.
yep and i’ve been doing it for a solid year now. gettin tired.
I think we have all grown very tired of this season, about as exhausting as they come and we were out of it with 4 games left!! Go figure…
Eric, you have a great future as a politician. You say a whole lot of words that don’t mean anything. Dude, you are the head coach, not the head cheerleader, make a decision, let the boy play.
You’ve got a whole lot of fans that have been waiting all season to see some football by the Broncos and we are still waiting.
We as fans wait all year to watch the Broncos play football. This year especially, the fans have been cheated. The season is over, where is the football we crave? We aren’t in the playoffs and the players have switched to glide.
Do the fans a huge favor. Stop mopping around feeling sorry about a bad season. Its time to get your game face on and play one for the Fans. Go out and play the game like you really enjoy it. What the heck, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Grab a snickers bar and quit playing like Betty White. We’ve got the talent, we’ve saw the Broncos do it at least once this year. DO IT AGAIN!
Are you going to let the Raiders hand you your butts? Are you going to let your fans be disgraced and go through a whole year of hanging our heads in shame because of what the Raiders did to us? Are you going to let the Raiders just roll right over you? Your fans are desperately hanging out to a small shred of hope that you guys will show up and play this week.
ITS TIME FOR SOME BRONCOS ATTITUDE!!! ITS TIME TO KICK SOME RAIDER REAR!! Now get out there and do us PROUD!! GO BRONCOS!!!!!
Ya Bay, I`m looking forward to the season being over. I`ll sit and watch the last three games and hope we just don`t get embarressed any more. Now if they bring in Tewbow I`ll be on my feet at home or the sports bar, I`ll be one happy camper.
Houston just tied the Ravens in regulation 28-28, no way we can win another game in my opinion, 3-13 and the third pick in the 2011 NFL draft would be my guess.
Pick 6 ends it. Ouch!
