On Monday, Interim Head Coach Eric Studesville said Kyle Orton will start Sunday in Oakland.
Studesville went on to say that he and the coaching staff would continue to examine a variety of factors to decide which mix of players across the roster will give his team the best chance to beat the Raiders.
“We’re going to look at everything today,” Studesville said. “We have two days to gameplan and look and talk as an organization about what we want to do. If that’s the direction that we decide to go and we feel is best for us, then we’ll make that decision. Right now, we still have to look at everything and get ready and go from there.”
Orton finished Sunday’s 44-13 loss in Arizona 19-of-41 passing for 166 yards with three interceptions. The quarterback, who threw 20 passing touchdowns in the team’s first 11 games, was held without a passing score for the second straight week.
After the loss, Orton took responsibility for the offense’s sluggish performance in recent weeks and vowed to improve in the Broncos’ final three games. But on Monday, Studesville defended the sixth-year veteran by pointing out the various factors that influence the passing attack, such as pass protection and route running.
“It’s 100 percent a team effort — to just put it solely on him I don’t think is 100 percent right,” Studesville said. “But again, we’re all going to take responsibility for what is happening. The last few weeks, we haven’t done those things.”
Studesville said 2010 first-round pick Tim Tebow is “in the equation” and would be prepared to start if the staff deems that he would give the team the best chance to win.
The interim head coach pointed to Tebow’s contributions on the field this season with four total touchdowns and his status as the backup quarterback for 11 of the team’s 12 games this season as indications of the rookie’s value to the team.
Tebow warmed up in the third quarter when Orton suffered a rib injury but did not see game action. On Monday, the backup quarterback, who estimated he gets ”a handful” of practice reps with the first-team offense each week, said he will keep trying to get better on the practice field to make sure he’s ready if called upon on game day.
The former Heisman Trophy winner acknowledged that he’s heard fans chanting his name during games but remains focused on doing what he can to help the team.
“I think you just try to handle it as best as possible,” Tebow said of his popularity amongst fans. “I really appreciate the support and that people are behind me. That means a lot, so I just do whatever I’m asked to do.”
A day after making his NFL head coaching debut, Studesville said he owes it to the organization and “the integrity of the game” to put the best product on the field — whether it comes to making a change at quarterback or another position.
“We’re going to make the decision that’s best for us overall as an organization and as a team,” Studesville said. “I’m going to certainly look to the input from everyone from (Broncos President and Chief Executive Officer) Mr. (Pat) Bowlen on down to the coaches and all of us that have been around to make that evaluation, if that’s what we need to do.”
MCCARTHY TO IR, DAVIS JOINS ACTIVE ROSTER
Kyle McCarthy was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his rookie season, Studesville said on Monday morning. Later in the day, the team announced that wide receiver Britt Davis has been promoted from the practice squad to fill the roster spot.
McCarthy, a safety, was injured on a kickoff on the final play of the first half on Sunday in Arizona.
Davis originally signed with the team on Aug. 5 and finished the preseason with four catches for 63 yards. The Northern Illinois product was waived on Sept. 4 and signed to the Broncos practice squad a day later.
In other injury news, the interim head coach said he is hopeful that Darcel McBath will be able to return Sunday in Oakland after missing the last three games due to injury. McBath traveled to Arizona and worked out on the field pregame before he was ultimately declared inactive for the game.
Studesville also said he would need to see how rehab goes over the next few days for other injured players, such as Brian Dawkins and Matt Prater, before making judgements about their availability this week.

Well Stud wouldn’t have been the best out of the bunch if Nolan, Turner and Dennison weren’t all run out of town…..
But that’s a whole different story.
Dennison left with Kubiak,didn’t he?
He`s an alright RB`s coach. He`s not Kubiak or Dennison for zone blocking. But he`s a good RB coach I think. He turned the Bills team around when they couldn`t even run the ball.
Turner is a great RB coach too.
No, he joined Kubiak this year. He was on McD’s staff last year. He and Bobby Turner were run out of town just like Nolan.
Silly McD.
Heck ya!!
No kiddin!
remember, we had the worst rushing game in the league for most of the year. may still be the worst i’m not sure. i dont really like the interim coach decision but like yall said, it doesnt really matter at this point
I definitely think we need Kubiak or Dennison either one to be our OC,and bring the zoneblocking back to where we made it famous!
We`ve gotta get back to zone blocking, like yesterday, I mean now.
I wasn’t really a fan of him being named interim coach either, but on this staff who are you going to pick? Bowlen probably just picked a name out of a hat.
The Colts have that title now.The worst running team in the NFL.
No coach on the staff is experienced enough to be HC,thats what McD wanted,so he wouldn’t get fired, but it didn’t work!
I really cant believe what Orton has on someone in this organization I have been a long time fan and I have to put up with this it is horrible. The denver broncos trade the whole NFL entry draft for a proven winner, with intangibles only a handfull of players have and they wont start him after going 3-10. Obviously Studesville is a born loser and a horrible coach also. Kyle Orton is the reason why this team sucks right now, it wasnt Josh Mcdaniels. Orton choked in 4 games this season in the last 5 minutes of the game. I am so embarrased to be a denver fan right now. Orton is only rated as the 4th in passing yards because of Mcdaniels, it has nothing to do with his talent because he is a choke artist and a pack of monkeys would not even follow him, so how could you expect a team too.
I bet Nolan, Turner, and Dennison are all grinning from ear to ear now.
Eric, was that title really necessary? “Still the Starter”? Can’t we get a break around here? This is definitely the furthest thing worthy of news, at least the upmost furthest thing away of being worthy of being an article title, just saying….
88, I heard in an interview hear in Colorado that the reason Mr. Bowlen picked Studesville is because in all the kaos he was always evenkeel. When McD was throwing his tantrims and all hell was breaking loose, Studesville was always upbeat and positive. Mr. Bowlen saw that everyone was all uptight when McD was here. Mr. Bowlen wanted a positive atmosphere. Thats why Studesville is Interim coach.
I`m ready for some MNF!!
That makes sense. I’m sure Bowlen thought it through, but really, there wasn’t much to choose from.
Like I said earlier though, I don’t envy the position Studesville is in right now, so best of luck to him.
wow. okay then. thanks for the explanation strand. was wonderin what that selection was all about. good info there. makes sense
Just think Houston Bay.
jinx- 88
Haha
Ya you guys. So we can stop the bleeding. In a kaotic scence.
I think McDanielsdomain09 is Really Josh himself???
Is it you dude????
strand, there are many rumors about why Studs was picked, one is that he was the rat in the organization who ratted McD out, because when McD got called into Bowlen’s office about the spy gate2 incident Studs was there and Ellis. Anyhow that’s what has been reported unofficially of course as no one would really ever tell us the truth about what really happened and who cares, Studs is just a bridge from here to there so he won’t matter but if that is true I will never forget him since in essence he would be the one who got McD out of here.
I heard that too.
It is actually a good strategy. Start Orton, make em game plan to defend Orton. Second half, let it rip with Tebow time.
Yes, until the season is over. Someone had to fill in.
But in the end it doesn’t matter. What’s done is done.
What was real weird was McD keeping Tuten….
And you know what? I don`t care! It`s old news. Right now it`s all illrelavent.
Interim anything is, I think the worst position to be in. Management doesn’t respect you because your not the actual coach, and player’s don’t respond because you are not the actual HC, etc.
I look at it as being a step father. You tell your kids (players) to do something and they respond, your not my real father (coach)… maybe not verbally but definetly it is in their minds. As someone posted earlier though, if the player’s refuse to play for a coach, then find it in yourself to do it for the fans, or hell do it for that next contract. Poor numbers equal less money.
amen. GO BRONCOS 2013!!!!!!!!!!
And come Jan. 2 the fun begins. Come on NEW YEARS!!
2013, LMAO, realistic but still funny.
LMAO!!!
2013, that means the blogger who was always on here earlier this year signing off something like “2010′s: Broncos the team of the decade” is going to have a heck of a lot of catching up to do, LOL.
I can’t get on board with this notion that McDaniels hired assistants that were inept just to keep his job secure. I might be wrong of course but I don’t see it that way. Looking at how McDaniels responded to adversity I do however believe, that he wanted cronies, that would not step up to the plate and voice disdain against him. This too, I think caused the spat with the Team Captains.
I am inclined to also believe, that the video taping incident is the sole reason he was fired. I do believe that he would have been given an ultimatum for next season without it. Win or your gone.
Yeah, keeping Tuten didn’t make sense to me either. We had so many injury problems in the past and McD got hired and talked Tuten up like he is some genius strength and conditioning coach.
But maybe he is really good and all those pulled hammies and what not are just plain bad luck.
Kind of off topic. But if we have football in 2013 that means we survived the end of all things in 2012. Ya right, another Y2K. Who knows maybe we`ll win the SuperBowl before the world ends. LOL
I hear he’s really good at counting the bench press reps at the scouting combine. That’s something I guess. lol
Oh my… Tuten should be formally trespassed from any Broncos facility.
Then he must know we are now mathematically out of the playoffs, he should tell Studs that then, LOL.
Ha!
Well it is interesting to note the importance of solar cycles in many civilizations. Could 2010 be a product of it? The solar activity this year has set new precedence and has dumb founded many in the scientific community.
BREAKING NEWS:
Because when the Broncos allowed 43 points Sunday, they dropped to last in the league in scoring defense.
They hit bottom, at No. 32, having allowed 28.9 points per game.
About Tebow at the Raiders:
Would the prospect of playing his first NFL game, as a fulltime quarterback that is, in a place as hostile as the Oakland Coliseum, make Tebow wary? No way, he said Monday afternoon.
“In college, times like that, I always enjoyed playing on the road just as much in hostile environments, so that wouldn’t be a distraction for me,” Tebow said.
Well as a fantasy owner, it was looks like it was the right choice in not even considering Broncos D.
Well heck! Start him then! Start Tebow!
