Shelton, Moulton Signed

July 30th, 2009 - 7:38pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos on Thursday announced that wide receiver Travis Shelton (pictured above) and cornerback Rashod Moulton have been signed.

Shelton is a rookie out of Temple University, who originally signed with the team as an undrafted free agent on April 27. He totaled 64 receptions for 784 yards with four touchdowns at Temple, adding 25 rushes for 205 yards and 97 career kickoff returns for a school-record 2,507 yards with two touchdowns.

He earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors as a kickoff returner as a senior in 2008, leading the nation with a 31.3-yard return average while adding a 92-yard touchdown return at Kent State.

Moulton is a first-year player who spent part of the 2008 season on the Broncos’ practice squad, after spending the 2007 campaign on Jacksonville’s practice squad. In his college career he stood out in all three phases of the game for Fort Valley State, seeing action at cornerback, safety, running back, wide receiver and returner. As a senior, he started the season at running back, gaining 109 yards on 20 carries before switching to defensive back, tallying 29 tackles and five interceptions. He also tallied 151 yards on 19 punt returns and 358 yards on 19 kickoff returns.

He garnered All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors as a kick returner and defensive back as a junior.

    I don’t even remember them being waived…

And as I see it, anyway they won’t be in the 53.

    :/

  2. Dr.Chris24 says:

not big news. probably will be on practice squad.

    second comment

  3. Broncoboy2469 says:

Sign Moreno and Ayers… i dont care about this

  4. 07elway says:

We signed 2 people no one even hardly knows over our 2 first round draft picks the day before training camp starts???? Are you kidding me!!!!! I’m confused… very very confused.

  5. Broncs55 says:

I don’t know, its possible Shelton could be used as a return man…. depends on how he performs there. It looks like he can get good field position.

all I have to say is why did we pick up trash like this and cut david grimes, just wondering

  7. mikew007 says:

These guys are just bodies. Every team needs players like this in camp. This has nothing to do with our first round picks 07Elway. The player’s agents are just waiting for the other 1st round picks to sign so they know what they can get. I know it sucks but that is how it works these days.

  8. Broncoxxx#24 says:

What’s the reason for drafting Knowshon and Robert if there not going to sing them soon.????

  9. babychamp-broncos^ says:

Ayers and Mareno should be signed before this week is over…If not, i really don’t understand why we would waste our 1st round picks for rookies we not signing….But i doubt Mcdaniels will let two players that could have a real big impact for us this year and more to come go

  10. Dynamicdave says:

Moreno and Ayers aren’t signed, but that’s the story in most of the NFL with the 1st round draft choices. Most teams are waiting for the 1st top 10 to be signed, to set the basis as to what they will allow their own draft picks. Set the standard for payment if you will. Don’t panic. Denver is no different then the majority of the other teams. Everybody needs to chill and understand what’s going on. They WILL get signed.

  11. Dynamicdave says:

Also, McD has no control over their being signed. It’s not his job. That is Xanders.

  12. HomeTeam007 says:

    Three things:
    1. Did anyone hear that tomorrow’s training camp is cancelled?
    2. Did anyone else get to read Alphonso Smith’s first rookie blog today before it was removed?
    3. The fact that these guys are signed is good news. It means that things are happening in the office and our first rounders will be signed soon.
ANYBODY THAT IS ON THE SQUAD HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE.

    Orange Crush!!!!!!

  13. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

The reason it’s taking so long to get our 1st rounders sign is because the agents are waiting to see what the earlier picks get.

Also the agency for Moreno, I know, is wating to get a deal done between Orakpo, Moreno, or Cushing because they want to get a good deal for one, so that it helps the other players in there agency to get a good deal… (Orakpo, Moreno, and Cushing all have the same agency according to NFL Network)

    So it’s just a big waiting game…

  14. Broncoboy6 says:

Aloha Everyone, I really don’t understand when it comes to these situations. Thanks DynamicDave/BroncoBailey99 for the insight into this matter. I just pray for the best. Mahalo & GOD bless. GO BRONCOS!!!.

  15. Broncoboy6 says:

Oh, And CONGRATULATIONS to Travis Shelton and Rashod Moulton!!!.

  16. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I don’t think either one of these guys will be here long, but thankfully they’re willing to serve as bodies during training camp. We’ll get Moreno and Ayers in with sufficient time for them to get up to speed. Let’s shock the world this season. GO BRONCOS!!!

  17. broncofanlvnm says:

I understand why Moreno and Ayers aren’t signed yet, but can someone tell me why it is that they haven’t been at camp this week yet. It seems to me that if they really want to compete at their positions, they should be out there already.

  18. NastyNate says:

ok most people who i have encountered on this blogging thing have all seen that i am a big bronco fan and i like the owner and the coach but wtf are they doing??? both of our great 1st round picks haven’t even been signed???????????? regardless yes they should be there but really people that is not a smart move in my opinion.

  19. bronco-blaze says:

the problem is with the caa and some other agency. With the first 15 picks there is this like..waiting and arrangement game. Everything will be fine, we just have to be patient. I wish the guys would show up and work out though, if they dont soon its going to be no dice…

  20. brian_schneider says:

I don’t know much about NFL contract nagotiations, but when I had to sign my contract for my job that I am currently at, there was a lot of “red tape”. You can’t do this, you have to do this at this time, blah blah blah. I can’t imagine how much “red tape” the NFL has to go through to sign players. I’m guessing that is what is holding up the process. That and everyone wants to get paid big bucks.

Moreno and Ayers can’t show up to camp because they aren’t signed yet. Once they are signed they will show up to camp. Which like many of us I really hope that it comes soon. Look at the rest of the league, there are still quite a few teams that haven’t signed some of there 1st and 2nd round draft picks yet. We have to be patient, remember when we were all getting huffy about Wiegmann not getting a new contract and boom he go a new one, don’t worry, I know some of you think that McDaniels and Bowlen squabbled away Cutler, but I doubt they would sqauabble away our first two picks.

  21. broncs55 says:

From what I hear, we are waiting on Crabtree from S.F. to sign to lay down the guidelines for Moreno/Ayers. The problem is Crabtree (who I believe was drafted #10) is holding out as he feels (even with his foot injury) should have been a top 3 draft pick, therefore he deserves top 3 money.

Pathetic, the kid hasn’t even proved anything yet.

  22. broncs55 says:

Also, Heyward-Bey from the Raiders was signed with a 20% increase from last year’s number 7 pick. Generally players get a 8-10% increase – that will really skew the numbers for everyone else!

  23. badaboom says:

Hey this is good news! At least we know now they have a pen in Xanders office that works!

  24. griff77302003 says:

Agents and Greed and unproven players . o ‘ boy I,m holding my breath hoping this gets done real quick but I am turning a nice Bronco blue .
