Sharpe to Announce Picks

April 21st, 2011 - 1:24pm by Gray Caldwell

In the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the only voices announcing the picks you will hear will be former players.

The group includes the likes of Barry Sanders, Willie Roaf and John Lynch, who will announce the second-round picks of the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.

For the Broncos — who have two picks in the second round — the franchise’s newest Hall of Famer, Shannon Sharpe, will announce the selections.

For the full list of former players participating, click here.

Nice. who knows, he might actually be up there 3 times if we trade down. but i doubt it lol. TRB out…

  2. strandoftds says:

If Shannon announces the TE Kyle Rudolph as our pick I will laugh. LOL

  3. Yovi21 says:

Just heard two of the draft “experts” on ESPN say we will pick Patrick Peterson #2 in the draft! haha just like I expected it to happen! Every year all the draft experts say we will pick one guy with no doubt until about a week from the draft! then that week comes and all the sudden we have a brand new prospective pick!

    COME ON PATRICK PETERSON!

  4. strandoftds says:

I`ve heard nothing but Marcell Dareus by all of the experts if we can call them that. Don`t be so sure by the new voices you all hear. Just saying.

  5. broncosfreak30 says:

Haha, no one knows guys who we’re going to pick. Our front office might not even know right now who we are going to take!! I hope that we do take Peterson or Miller though!!

    Hey Yovi…

    You have any sources online??

ATLANTA — Broncomaniacs can ease their fears about the NFL lockout limiting the development of quarterback Tim Tebow.

To keep in shape, Tebow has been working out with receivers in Denver and Jacksonville, Fla., while also working in the gym.

“Every where I go, I’m working out,” said Tebow, who was in Atlanta on Wednesday to present an award at the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards. “I’m constantly working out. I’m concentrating on throwing the ball. I’ve worked out a lot in Denver, and in Florida I’m throwing to receivers I played with in college. I mean, it’s constant.”

Despite the lockout, Tebow said he is pleased with his development, but he didn’t go into great detail, saying: “I love this offseason. I’m so much more prepared and excited for the season to start.”

But if the season started today, coach John Fox and executive vice president of football operations John Elway have stated that Kyle Orton is their man.

“I don’t think about it,” Tebow said. “There will be a time for competition, and I’m looking forward to that. That’s what I have to concentrate on.”

With the NFL draft coming up next week, the Broncos have been taking a long, hard look at Tebow’s former backup, Cam Newton, and Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert, but that doesn’t seem to bother Tebow.

“I’m only worried about what I can control, and that is to go out there and be the best I can be,” Tebow said. “I’m working out and trying to improve. I mean, I have a good relationship with Coach Fox and John Elway. And I’m really excited about the new offense Mike McCoy is putting in.”

At my last count, out of the 27 most current mocks, 21 had us picking Dareus, 3 PP and 3 Von Miller, so it’s abolutely nothing new, there have been mocks having us pick PP from day one and some still do, just saying. Way to go to get the PP fans going though Yovi.

  8. Yovi21 says:

Gotta love Tebow! anyone know exactly when his book comes out?

I’m not saying we WILL take him, I just want us to and I’m glad to finally see that some of the “experts” are saying its a possibility! I am no Guru, but I do remember that Tebow wasn’t even mentioned as being an intrest of the Broncos until about two weeks before the draft last year, and since the Broncos are even more secretive this year than they were last, nobody knows what will happen. I’m just happy that Patrick Petersons name is still in the mix for the Broncos! So I wouldn’t be so sure either if I was a Marcell Dareus lover, because I haven’t heard much that shows Denver as being more vested in Peterson than Dareus or vise versa…just speculation! We will see draft day! I just want me some PATRICK PETERSON next season!

and I don’t have any online sources of that freak 30, but I do get updates of every Bronco news that is posted from professional sites.

  9. Yovi21 says:

haha it’s what I do bay…those mocks are like bigfoot! I’ve heard about em’ but never seen! It was just exciting for me to finally see one!

  10. baylinorcrush says:

Actually, just did a check to update; of the 25 mocks who updated their mock between the 18th and the 19th, 20 have Dareus, 3 PP, 1 Quinn and 1 Fairley. You have to go back to mocks made on the 15th to see Von Miller in there as my previous update in above post showed.

  11. broncofanatic66 says:

If I have to watch Orton play one more time I will vomit!!!

We dont need PP!! You can have the greatest CB in the world but they’ll never to do their job because teams will run it down our throats and the QBs will have all day in the pocket to throw cuz no pass rush!!

Besides we got a lot of young talent at CB/safety already with Cox, Bruton and McBath!

We need somebody to stop the run and help with pass rush! ie Dareus!
I cant take seeing the Raiders and Chiefs kill us with the run so easily.

I will be pissed if we draft PP or worse yet a QB!!
    D-Line Baby, Orange Crush!!

  12. baylinorcrush says:

And I missed two that have Dareus, making it 22 mocks out of 27 picking him, he is gaining steam!!!! LMAO.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

And about the suject of this blog, having Sharpe make the draft selections annoucements for our picks in the second round, if you ask me I think it’s a waste of his mouth, LOL.

  14. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    yovi,

All the mocks ive seen say Dareus as well. Which is fine cuz mocks are always wrong and just people following each other.

Which ESPN experts are u refering to? did you see it on tv? did u see it on the website? Id like to see it because the concensus so far was Dareus just cuz it would be the simple choice not necessarily the best choice. I want PP as much as u do and I believe we will draft him but all the NFL.com “experts” say Dareus.

Either way, “experts” are just super fans who work in the business or ex-players. They aren’t oracles or forseers or anythign fo that sort. Thier guess is just as good as ours. All I know is PP would love to be here. He is the best. He started in all his years. We could use him in many ways. Dl is deep. And Elway said drafting for best not need. These are the few things I use to hold on to the fact that PP is a high possibility. 1 week from today we will all know for sure tho. TRB out…

  15. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    http://espn.go.com/

haha, u should enjoy this bay. the vid on dareus on the home page. Nothing serious just fun. Showing of his speed strength and hitting power, etc

  16. Yovi21 says:

Um…not 100% on his name 1nOnly, but hes the guy who always argues with Mel Keiper..and it was on Sports Center I believe! He had Dareus going to Carolina too.

  17. 1nOnlyTRB says:

ahhh, interesting. so u saw it on tv then. I dont watch tv that much so i probably missed it. Panthers DL is just as crappy as ours. I would not be suprised if they take Dareus. Ive been saying for a long time. Most people tend to believe because panthers spent so much money and time scouting Cam that they will take him. If they take him that will not be the reason. But like you, all I want me is some peterson and if u see my post in the last blog u will see where I had quote from PP about how he would love to play for us. Unfortunately he isn’t the one making the selection and im sure he is open to playing for whoever selects him. Just good to hear him say it lol. TRB out…

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Hahahahaha!!! Thanks TRB, that was fun.

But serious folks here might point out that the black bags representing the defenders are most likely college quality bags so that in no way shape or form would he do so well up against NFL quality bags. Hahahahaha all over again!!!

  19. baylinorcrush says:

So PP was his choice only because he has Carolina picking Dareus, even more interesting…

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Once we get the whole story Yovi, the exciting news becomes pretty flat boring, but that’s cool, that’s what we do, talk up a storm for whatever rocks our boat.

  21. 1nOnlyTRB says:

lol, yea bay, it was just soem good ol fun to watch. especially when they said he did it faster and better than other nfl guys that came in. Doesn’t say much just like the combine is secondary to game tape but was fun to watch. I make fun of him for being weak even tho they call him strong (because of his weak benching) but he probably has more raw power than gym strength lol. They need a sports science for PP :-P lol. TRB out.

  22. strandoftds says:

i`m gone for a few hours and PP is still the topic. Crazy! LMAO!!

  23. imready says:

Mel Kiper Jr. had Von Miller at #2 today and I believe Mike Mayock has had him there for a long time. Since Mel had him at #2, you know we aren’t going to pick him. LOL
The two guys I like best at evaluating players are Charlie Casserly and Mike Mayock. Never been a Mel Kiper fan, looks like he spits all over himself when he talks. He must wipe it on his hair. LOL
The only thing I have against Darius is it looks like he has Mr. Potato Head arms. LOL
I really like Von Miller and love hearing him described as being “all over the field”. That reminds me ot Troy Palomalu with the Steelers . He ‘s one hell of a football player and is the main man on D in Pittsburgh.
Peterson seems to get a lot of respect from everybody who talks about him. Couldn’t go wrong with having a guy like that on your team. I’d still like him at safty ,with his speed and size he could fix a lot of problems when somebody blows a coverage or a hole needs plugged.
I don’t think we should trade down if it means giving up the oppurtunity to get one of these three guys. They are all game changers and play makers. I think that kind of play is contagous. The Broncos have had few oppurtunities to pick this high in the draft and we need to take advantage of that, hopefully we won’t even be close to picking at #2 next year.
Finally, don’t understand how anybody can predict the season outcome without even knowing who’s on the team. It you can do that on a regualr basis , I want some of what you’re smoking.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

That was Woody Paige, I think his smoking days are over, haha.

  25. strandoftds says:

I like that idea of not trading back. Stay put and take the sure player. It`s going to take about two drafts to get what we really need as a contender.

  26. strandoftds says:

    NO SMOKING PLEASE!

  27. baylinorcrush says:

Trading back is not going to be very rewarding this year, no one is going to throw the kitchen sink to get any of this class QBs and as Xanders pointed out it better be a real offer for them to consider trading down. All that tells me we’ll stay put and pick at #2, but I said that somewhere already, right? Like multiple times for multiple days, LOL.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

    meant real GOOD offer.

  29. strandoftds says:

I`ve said no trading back a time or two myself. It`s obvious that if we did trade back there is no way we get Dareus. So to get Marcell Dareus we must stay put.

  30. sndvl says:

I stand by my prediction that if it happens (trading back) it will be with NE. And they take Von Miller.

If we stay at two, which I hope we do, draft PP and we’lll have the Dynamic (CB) Duo…

Tebows shirt is cooler than mine in 11

  31. strandoftds says:

That far back huh? Thats pick #17. I`d hope we get their #33 and a extra 3rd or 4th rounder out of it. That`s a ways back there. Who do you pick at #17 Corey Luiget I hope. All I can say is WOW!!

  32. baylinorcrush says:

    I’ll double that WOW!!

  33. baylinorcrush says:

#17 is where we picked Ayers, from Dareus to a player like Ayers!!! It would be like going from a hummer to a golf cart, haha. And I do think Ayers will be fine in the 43, but that drop off would absolutely kill me.

  34. broncosfreak30 says:

Actually on the NE trade, Bill Williamson addressed it that if we were to trade to NE then they would give us both of their first round picks and both of their 2nd round picks!! That would give us a total of 2 first round picks and 4 2nd round picks, including the first pick in the 2nd round!!

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Amen to dynamic duo at CB sndvl. Can’t wait.

And its like Freak says. both thier first round picks to make up value. I dunno about the second round picks whether it will be this years or next year cuz Belichek doesn’t throw picks away. At the same time, he got a hit on all his picks last year so he doesn’t need all the picks he has so i can see him moving up to get who he wants. ALOT. He sure has the ammo for it.

  36. strandoftds says:

I do not like the idea of going that far back. This is a once in a life time thing at #2 over so wht spoil it. I don`t ever plan on picking that high ever again. Not in my life time anyway. Take the sure player with Marcell Dareus and move onto the #36 pick.

  37. strandoftds says:

    ooops, so why spoil it??

  38. baylinorcrush says:

And that list of picks Williamson is talking about is just off the value chart, that will never happen, Belicheck isn’t stupid enough to trade away that many picks, stupid Williamson, the day he left the DP was a great day.

  39. strandoftds says:

If I was N.E. I wouldn`t give away the farm, Chart or no chart. Thats where I`m at with it. It`s not going to happen anyway.

  40. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Thats what im saying. Belicheck knows value in picks. I see him trading up to spots he wants, but i dont see him giving away picks like candy. That was McDs department lol. Probably just the 2 firsts and Maybe a 2nd max or a player, he got 2 great TE’s, and I want hernandez lol. He played very well last year, and he was Tebows TE in college. I wanted us to draft him last year, but allas it was still the McD error lol. TRB out..

  41. baylinorcrush says:

Reminder: You cannot trade players for picks in this draft.

  42. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Darn it. yea u right lol. I got a lil carried away there. Thought it was like any other old year lol. TRB out…

  43. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Was reading an article about the Q&A X and JE had yesterday after the press conference with fans. A fan asked about catching TE and Elway said they liked what they saw from Kyle Rudolph (not suprising) but also Lance Kendricks TE wisconsin 6-3 243. Projected middle round. They may make a play for him if they truly have an interest and we would not have to burn a second pick on a TE. TRB out…

  44. broncosfreak30 says:

Yea, personally I would love Rudolph. But with his injury issues and taking a 2nd round pick, I say we go ALL defense with our first 3 rounds!!

    That sound good to everyone??

  45. tnalen66 says:

i cant wait for the draft. no FA makes a boring offseason.

  46. 1nOnlyTRB says:

indeed nalen. indeed. if you havent entered the contest yet and plan too, you should pick who you think the broncos first 4 selections will be and what number u think they will be taken. TRB out

  47. broncosfreak30 says:

This makes me like Dareus even more!!!

    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6402899

  48. broncosfreak30 says:

    Here’s Miller’s sport science!!!

    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6402939

    Peterson, Miller, or Dareus!!!

Dareus and Millers video was VERY VERY impressive!!

  49. broncos20 says:

I can see the panthers picking Dareus, they have much problems with their D-Line as we do..They lost Jenkins, Peppers, and Kemoeatu is losing it. They could lose Charles Johnson if a CBA is in place. So Dareus makes sense for them.
I dont see them taking Newton. Firsts year coach’s instinct, earn the trust of your players (Clausen) affect th locker room.
McD lost some of our player’s trust the moment he came in and started talking about trading Cutler, angered fans..lol.. Panthers top brass should learn from that.IMO
    I could be wrong.AHA

  50. baylinorcrush says:

    I hope you are!
