Shanahan Voted Coach of the Week

September 19th, 2008 - 12:14pm by Gray Caldwell

On Friday, the NFL announced that Head Coach Mike Shanahan was voted the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week for Week 2.

Shanahan led the Broncos to a last-minute, 39-38 victory against the AFC West rival San Diego Chargers.

The Broncos offense gained a total of 486 yards, led by Jay Cutler, who passed for a career-best 350 yards and four touchdowns. Brandon Marshall was Cutler’s favorite target, hauling in a franchise-record 18 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown. With the Broncos down by one following Cutler’s final touchdown completion to rookie Eddie Royal, Shanahan made the decision to go for the two-point conversion. On the ensuing play, Cutler hit Royal over the middle to seal the victory.

The Broncos defense forced one turnover and limited the Chargers to just 80 rushing yards.

Shanahan beat out Buffalo’s Dick Jauron and Washington’s Jim Zorn for the award.

That is very well deserved. As far as the FEDEX Air & Ground awards, I believe the media has too much say in that award. How did Aaron Rodgers win the air award over Culter? Cutler threw for more yards and 4 touchdowns. I think that is fixed……

An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep.
Without a doubt, Shanahan is a lion. He knew that the 2pt conversion would reflect on him and the OT would reflect on his players.
    He is a lion.

We couldn’t win ALL of the awards this week now could we?! Had to be fair to others.

Packer fans spammed to give it to Rogers. It sucks but that’s how it goes. It’s why they always win the Chunky soup thing click for cans. When its cold and you live in horribly boring place like Wisconsin you can sit around clicking your computer to steal an award for a QB that doesn’t deserve. Oh well. We know who the better QB is.

I agree, Jay Cutler deserved that award.

Bronco Fans let them give them all the awards for the week that they want to give them,
we are going to win the Big One of all the SuperBowl! and the best part, that award is won on the field and it last for a year no VOTES!

I kind of wonder if the NFL gave it to Rodgers because he has to follow in Farve’s footsteps…But yeah that is BS!!! Cutler will have another 300+yards and 3+TD against the Aint’s

  13. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

Nice job, Shanny. Your courage amassed a great victory for us. Now, let’s pound the Saints into submission!

  14. Broncfalls says:

    Shanny,

You’re freakin the best! I have never doubted you PERIOD! I totally agreed with that call. He knew the Chargers offense was moving and they would have scored no doubt about it. NICE CALL!

p.s. ESPN is starting to come around. My 2 year old was up until 3:30 last night and says “Daddy, Broncos….” I turned around and it was a piece on Cutler and his offense. Talking about the high powered offense they’ve turned in thus far…..

Sorry New Orlerans, you’re the next ones in our way!!!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

Mile High Salute to you Mike!!
