On Thursday, the Broncos signed free agent wide receivers Patrick Carter and Britt Davis. They also placed Kenny McKinley (knee) and Josh Barrett (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending their seasons, while waiving Patrick Honeycutt.
In addition, defensive lineman Jamal Williams made his first appearance on the practice field in pads during training camp this afternoon. In a pre-practice media session, Head Coach Josh McDaniels said Williams, who had been on the active/PUP list, had passed a physical and was ready to go.
Both newcomers also joined the team for this afternoon’s practice session.
Carter recorded eight catches for 88 yards for Tampa Bay last preseason. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver later spent time on the Buccaneers’ practice squad before being signed to Seattle’s practice squad late in the season. He resigned with Seattle in the offseason but was released on June 9.
The 25-year-old began his collegiate career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Louisville, where he caught 26 passes for 396 yards and five touchdowns as a senior.
Davis registered five catches for 54 yards last preseason with the Jets after signing as a college free agent out of Northern Illinois. The 23-year-old spent part of last season on the Jets’ practice squad and resigned with the team in the offseason before being waived on Sunday.
At Northern Illinois, Davis finished fifth on the school’s career catch list with 146, while racking up 1,676 career receiving yards and 2,063 all-purpose yards.

first!
josh barrett and mckinley down too? when did this happen? FIRE TUTEN FIRE TUTEN FIRE TUTEN FIRE HIM ALREADY! he’s killing my team
First post and you had nothing intelligent to say. Sucks Barrett on IR, he was a special teams stud.
Oh yes because its all Rich Tuten fault. Fire Ford and CDOT because I got in a car accident and injured myself.
We better be worried about LB depth more than WR depth,Hell we’re stacked at WR,why sign 2 young players that couldn’t even make other teams practice squads??
I didn’t think Mckinley would make the cut anyway to be honest.Especially with Lloyd and Willis stepping it up.
We in deep doo doo and the season has not even started yet. I am waiting for some good news for a change?
I guess the Arrington for Mays trade worked out for the best considering we landed Lendale White and Doom being hurt, why does sh*t have to happen just when things are looking up??
Good to see Jamal Williams passed a physical and was out practicing. I agree with you BFE McKinley was going to be on the practice squad again this year anyway so he’s not a big loss. So far Doom and Barrett are key losses.
lol whoops I forgot about Moreno and Buckhalter they’re key losses, but they’ll be back by regular season.
I just hope Darrell Reid gets well fast enough to not miss any regular season games, since he seems to be the only other Defensive player that can get to the QB for a sack.
Hopefully Ayers and Moss,or maybe Kirlew will turn it on and get after the QB,they will have it a little easier considering the beef we added up front on the Dline.
BFE
Thanks for the criticism but I think this is out of hand and it’s on someone, maybe its not Tuten! someone has to agree that when your 4 and 1/2 days into camp and you have 2 running backs down 2 players on IR and 1 more that will probably be there soon thats more than bad luck! I agree Injuries happen I’m just tired of seeing our team go down year after year with injury after injury!
GO BRONCOS 2010
Yeah I agree Doom is a devistating loss, but Barrett is a huge loss also.
Some more McD Karma I suppose. Anyway, Dont care much for McKinley, he didnt exactly stay healthy last year either so it is wha tit is. Didnt think he would make the cut either with willis stepping up. Why we signed some new recievers when we knew we already had too much in that area and alot had to go is beyond me. I guess teams just like to have the maximum amount of players until they are required to cut. None of th enew guys will make the cut. Its just pointless. Gonna miss Barret tho, strong and blazing fast with back breaking tackles. Had all the makings of a pro bowl safety bu tjust never transitioned well in D but amazing on ST.
Anyway, things have already started of bad and hate to sound like a downer but, here here, to what seems like another F’d season …. hopefully not but ehn…..
Interesting topic on the link I will provide. The person writing calls the people that put the blame on McDaniels for an injury is not a fan.

Ah looks like Baylin was right when he called this a rebuilding year, just hope next year everybody is healthy, and gets some experience, and we BETTER sign Champ to another contract.
Players just don’t drop out of the sky for no reason.
It’s strength and condition. RICH TUTEN IS THE STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH.
BFE, well, I always thought like many that 2011 will be the year this all gets turned around, and the more I go into 2010 the more I sound like I knew what I was talking about.
Man I hate being right, please let all the superly over the top optimists of the blog be right, and have everyone who is playing behind the hurt players play out of their mind and make us proud, have the new/hurt O line gel like no unit has ever gelled before, resolve the QQ as soon as possible so the team will know what direction we’re going so all these practice squad players will flourish, players and fans please put every negative thoughts out of your head and envision great things ahead, think we are playoff worthy, think we are one united and invicible…. because I can’t, I apologize, my brains are not letting my heart take over no matter how much I plead. No reason to crucify me, I’ll be rooting every single game of the season, even if we lose the first six, that’s just me, gotta take the good with the bad, the world around us is not always made the way we want it to be, but we still have to deal with it, so here is to hoping all the optimists here can deal with all the not so optimists here all season and vice versa, because, after all, it’s just a game.
But I do love my Broncos more than anything in sports and I will be ok with whatever is their record this year, specially 8-8 and if they play in 2011, which I think they will, watch out mama, Tebow will be the man, the QQ will be something of the past, the O line will have healed and the rookies will have gelled, Doom will be back stronger than ever because Bertrand Berry who had the same injury says it’s not a career changing type injury, Decker will make Eddie Mac proud, Thomas will make us forget we ever had Marshall, our local power back will run over the competition, Tuten will be the new conditioning guy for the Raiders and the AFC West will be ours again. SWEET.
GO BRONCOS, it’s only right if the world appears heavy right now, specially to the Baileys and Dawkins type of guys who so want to win it all now as time is running out, but give it your all with what you’ve got is all I can ask for and whatever that means record wise, I can handle it. I’m definitely not going to be upset if we end up 8-8, rather I will be very pleased.
Hey anyone know who #42 is ?
Go Broncos!!!
it was Kolby Smith, he was waived yesterday tho!
Thanks Yo.
And we still have enough time with 4 preseason games and all of training camp to fill #92 spot, find a RB,have the o-line gel, fix the QB position, come up with starting WRs, find a TE who can stretch the field, come up with a D-Line rotation, Rearrange the LBing core, find a nickle DB, a dime DB, and see if the 1 punter we have can handle the job, whos gonna return punts, oh, and kickoffs, see if the new D-cordinator can call plays in the nfl, see if last years rooks can step in and contribute, see if any of this years rooks can help the team win some games.
Thats all. Plenty of time….
Go Broncos!!!
haha well I guess we can be thankful it happened now instead of during the season, at least we have time to figure everything out!
Hey guys. One possible replacement is Adalius Thomas. (sp?)
He would fit nicely as an OLB.
Fire Tuten!
KFS, I read that and I have to disagree with what he has to say, saying someone isn’t a fan because they don’t like the coach or blame the coach for something is like stating that if someone disagrees with or doesn’t like the president they don’t like America! I personally like McD tho, I really think he has big things planned for us, I hope that even if we have a couple more 8 or 9 win seasons he isn’t let go, it will take time but he will take this team back to the big game!
I like the Adalius Thomas idea
Hate to see Doom out for so long, but this is Jarvis Moss’ chance to step up, lets see if all this talk about a new attitude will = sacks. He and Ayers need to get 8+ sacks each if we’re any chance. Doubt McD will bring Adalius Thomas in after he had that spat with Belicheck.
Hard to blame Tuten for all these injuries, surely his approach is hardly any diff to all the other strength coaches in the league….
“It is what it is” = Worst comment ever, you may aswell say nothing and still get the same poijt across….
It is what it is was really started here by writer Mike Rice who wrote it in the title of one of his article and used it again in that article. I liked it, it sounded good when and how he used it. Different strokes for different folks, you probably don’t like that one either, just kidding, keeping it light.
Anyway, BA is that you or an imposter? LOL.
I think it’s an imposter,he don’t have BA’s accent.AYE…LOL
hahaha, this is AB not BA.
another Aussie who follows the Broncos but doesnt blog as often as BA, lol.
Different strokes for different folks, i like that one….. at least it carries some meaning.
So with Samoan we have three guys from downunder that I know of, pretty cool stuff.
All i know is that players have to come ready to play when training camp starts. Its not up to the strength and conditioning coach to babysit during the off season. Its hard to see doom go down and hopefully moss can step it up. He looks like the best option at this point.
From reports it sounds as if Haggan is gonna move back outside in Doom’s spot.
Actually this is an option McD is considering the other one being Moss, or a combination of both maybe.
10 bucks says if marshall had landed that broncos contract and got hurt people woulda said, he is lying and is playign the broncos for fools. Just thought I would say that even tho I know Doom isnt lol. But its sad to hear this. Its all up to Ayers and Moss. For all we know, it might be up to Ayers and Haggan, with Ayodele playing the other ILB spot instead of Haggan, so essentially Haggan goes back to what he did last year.
We sure are snake bitten this year, I heard someone refer to it as McD karma and while thats funny and prolly partially true, I still blame Rich Tuten.
And no, Im not jsut following the blame the rich tuten wagon, Ive been saying this since that year all our RBs went down. Sure its not solely his fault but I almost feel like he is partially responsible and we need a new strength and conditioning coach, But then again this might just be major bad luck. Hopefully no one else falls prey to this, I say they bench all the veterans like Champ and Dawk out of fear lol. TRB out….
Man, this really sucks! I was hoping that this would be an awesome offseason and we’d come in ready to play hard. All we’ve been doing is gettin’ injured. I sure hope we can overcome these injuries.
Go Broncos!!!!
TRB, unfortunately Doom’s injury is not like all the boo-boos Marshall suffered, LOL.
several players on every TEAM gets hurt during TC. Coaches prepares for it. they hope less then more and that the players that get hurt aren’t starters or major contributers but they are professionals, they know how to adjust by filling spots with back up players or sign free agents taht can come in and help where needed. It is very devastating that Mareno, Buckhalter, Dumerville,Barrett, and the others got hurt but we will be O.K. We will over come these obstacles. That is what good TEAMS do and we are GOOD. Our young back ups will have the opportunity to show what they got and they will . We will be just fine. Have faith and Believe in McDaniels and the players he bought here. I do and I think we have good depth at nearly every posiition. We will be fine. IWILLX2…GO BRONCOS-2010
It’s real hit in the gut but this is football and injury’s are a BIG part of it . The sayin you here from players and coaches about the next guy in line needs to step up is not just a saying , it’s the truth of FOOTBALL .
This is when the team , coaches , an fans find out ” WHAT THERE MADE OF !!! ”
GO BRONCOS
That is exactly what I am talking about griff77302003 IWILLX2. That is why it is called a TEAM. when a player goes down, the next in line steps up and take over. I believe in the guy’s McDaniels brought here to us BRONCOS. Who ever steps in for the injured players might surprise some and do better than the person in front of them. It has happened before ala Brady/Bledsoe….Trent Green/Kurt Warner….and many many more. It happens all the time and the possibility of it happening again is very good so all you BRONCOS fans that think that our season is over because of a couple of injuries…think again.. Our season haven’t even started yet so look up have faith and believe in McDaniels and our BRONCOS. We do have a great TEAM and we are going to do GREAT things with injured players or not. We will be fine and the opportunity for a star to rise is very good. Sometimes…Something good comes out of something bad… this WILL be one of those cases…BELIEVE BRONCOMANIACS……BELIEVE……IWILLX2
Are you really a preacher who side tracks as a football fan, LOL/kidding.
I thought adalius thomas signed with the Giants?
I think he is still unsigned. Jets passed on him, Miami passed on him, I don’t think anyone else has done much with him since then.
Oooops I just realized I was thinking of Keith Bulluck because there were mentions of him in a broncos uni as well as Adalius. My mistake!
We need Ayers to step up big this season, and Jamaal Williams and Bannan need to prove their worth
