The Broncos host Kansas City this weekend for the 103rd regular-season meeting between the two divisional rivals.
Denver trails the all-time series 47-55, but is 32-19 against the Chiefs at home. The Broncos won the first meeting between the two clubs this season 17-10 at Kansas City.
The teams have met once in the postseason, with the Broncos coming out with a 14-10 victory in what Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway called his greatest memory from his time playing against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Notable performances against the Chiefs:
CB Champ Bailey: In 15 career games against Kansas City, Bailey has intercepted four passes and broken up a total of 14. In addition, he’s forced one fumble and registered a sack in last year’s game at Kansas City on Dec. 5.
DE Elvis Dumervil: Has totaled 6.5 sacks in eight career games vs. Kansas City, including one game where he finished with three sacks and one forced fumble against the Chiefs on Dec. 9, 2007.
CB Andre’ Goodman: Has intercepted passes in three of his five games against Kansas City. In addition to intercepting a pass, he also returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown at Kansas City on Dec. 6, 2009.
DE Jason Hunter: Returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown and posted one sack vs. Kansas City on Nov. 14, 2010.
LB Mario Haggan: Registered a career-high three sacks and forced the fumble that Hunter returned 75 yards for a touchdown vs. Kansas City on Nov. 14, 2010.
Denver-Kansas City Roster Connections
Some interesting roster connections between the Broncos and Chiefs courtesy of research done by Public Relations Intern Cydney Ricker:
Broncos punter Britton Colquitt and Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt are brothers, and are the first brothers to punt in the NFL at the same time since 1941 (George and Wes McAfee).
Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal played opposite Kansas City cornerback Brandon Flowers for three seasons at Virginia Tech (2005-07)
Chiefs running back Le’Ron McClain shared the backfield in Baltimore with Broncos running back Willis McGahee for four seasons (2007-10). Chiefs tackle Jared Gaither blocked for McGahee during that span.

It seems that the winning formula for the present Broncos team is:
1. Solid Defense with an outstanding pass rush
2. Excellent quality Special Teams play
3. Ball control on offense with the occasional deep pass to stretch the D.
4. Win the turnover battle
The 3 losses since TT became QB all demonstrate the opposite of those ingredients, the Broncos need to re-establish that game plan.
Can they put pressure on Orton?
Can they hang on to the ball?
Can they run it with a heavy dose of checkdown throws and screens?
Can they contain Hali?
Can they stop the run?
If they accomplish these things they win. The players said early on that it requires excellence in all three phases of the team to secure wins. Couldn’t agree more. Now it’s up to them to execute the plan.
That means they see the teams even, three points is the Vegas customary home field advantage spread.
Hey, one positive thing if we lose this game. We know our draft pick in the 1st round and we can give our ideas on the player and position we feel we need to address. I`d ragter wait a few weeks though. LOL
I don’t work for the government.
But I do get to pay $341.17 in property tax every month. I also pay 15.3 % of every dime made in Social Security tax. Plus, I have the privilege of paying 8.75% over and above the price of anything purchased in sales tax. My city is forcing me to pour concrete and put up fencing. It cost me $2459. 97 to register, smog, and permit my vehicles in 2011. I paid $540.00 again this year for contractors license fees and bond. I will also pay an additional $5000 or so this year meeting Federal Lead Paint removal education and compliance fees. (I’m certain I’ve missed some)
but…I do not work for the government!!! LOL….wait…that’s not funny!
Today we have 3 families who are visiting in my home. That amounts to 4 women, 2 adult female children, 8 teens, and 16 little children and pre-teens.
and you’re really worried about a little daytime blogging? (Thought I’d add a little perspective, Bay.)
I hope all Broncos fans have their seatbelt firmly secured. It may be a rough ride! Enjoy it anyway!!!
Have a great New Years celebration!! Be safe!
strand you go from no way we can lose this game, not even a contest to if we lose this game, we are all bipolar, LOL.
Rather.
Where`s my meds? LOL
Question is what happened to OC’s meds, haha.
My left hand is my right hand, and my right hand is my left hand. But my brains in a jar in some movie called Young Frankenstein. LOL
I’m uni-polar, I self medicate with beer….LOL
My heart doesn’t know what my brain is doing and vice versa.
These Broncos are tearing me apart, LOL.
Either you should drink before noon or wait until after noon to blog then, haha.
Its just tough to decipher sometimes. So which team will show up this week?
Sounds like having a football brain is rather unsafe!
Hopefully both so we can have a game.
The heart – I can’t help! LOL
oh did i sound like my temper was flaring … ignore me … i suppose the negativity or should i say sometiems gets to a ridiculously positive guy like my self. Just my opinions.
Also this is the same chiefs team that needed to win last week to secure THIER playoff chance and didn’t. That sure woulda gone a long way for them and crennel. Instead they failed and will fail again because the stakes this week weren’t as high as last week and they couldn’t cut it. Altho its arguable that Raiders are far more talented than us … and have the conventional QB who can shootout when needed.
love the posts OC
TRB
I honostly think that the usual stink it up Orton will be his normal self, which is good for us. LOL
or should i say Caution* sometiems …. ***
Hey Bay – I have some extended posts that say they are “awaiting moderation”. How long does it take for something like that to be cleared?
If nothing is bad, within the hour, if they don’t like it, never, haha.
It was a funny / sarcastic reply to you about – Do you work for the government? LOL Prolly post soon then – nothing there to be offensive. Thanks
That sounds like a serious condition bay…
Maybe you need to go to the doctor and have a Broncotomy to relieve your Tebowitis…… lol
Yeah, they go in and detach your Bronco Heart from your Bronco Brain…
I’ve been feeling much better since I had mine done…. It’s an out patient procedure, you won’t feel a thing afterwords….lol
LMAO! Not sure I’m ready to give up my brain overide function though. The heart has usually gotten me in most of my troubles…
Like the $2,000 dollar bet I lost in Vegas for the Giants SB…
LOL!!!
The funny thing is, the healthiest safety on our 53 man roster is easily our worst safety … i suppose he is so healthy from all that non playing and non contact he has in games … who knows maybe this will be rahim moores break out game against the Kansas City snortons. TRB
I concur to my own heart on that statement Bay. LOL
They gave me 10.5 points, I figured NO CONTEST, hahahahaha!
LMAO! Bay mocking me! HaHa!! Hardly a dull moment.
$2,000 was a lot of money back then….
Lol I would think the brain told you the Pats would win … after all … they had been and giants were not all that. So lets not blame your heart Bay lol.
DB,
If it has multiple links in it it will clear eventually after they verify links … if not, its probably moderated for another reasona nd probably won’t clear … IMO
You’re smarter than me strand, your doing it just with a big mouth, me I opened my wallet, LOL.
No contest comment that a say earlier. Bay lost 2,000 I just got my feelings hurt is all. LOL
TRB, what are you drinking, Giants Broncos SB of course.
Still appriciate ya Bay. LOL
That’s right, before you were born, sorry.
I have been thinking that Moore could have his break-out INT game this week. Moore knows Orton well enough to know his read progression.
I think you are over estimating Moore at this point, he doesn’t seem to know very much.
Moore is scaring me big time.
yea man … before my time … didn’t even occur to me it could be that one. when I hear giants and superbowl in the same sentence I think of the most recent one lol. So yea your heart did play its role in that one. I was shockeda ctually that u would bet on asuperbowl that didn’t involve the broncos.
2 large, Ouch!
At least you didn’t lose it betting on the Broncos. I learned that lesson the hard way back in the eighties during our SB runs. I bet on the Broncos every time we got to the SB and lost my butt all three times.
OC will catch on too.
I was barely 3 years old when Bart Starr and the Packers won SB 1. LOL
When you look at how many safeties came out last year … you can see why this year was weak on safeties … and I beleive next year is too. 2010 actually had a legit safety worth of a top 10 pick. 2011 and 2012 have 2nd round safeties as the top safeties in the draft .. sad really … TRB
Haha, just got it, I was thinking Giants-Pats like TRB… lol
Rahim has the mental and physical skills. He is very young. I think the future for him with the Broncos is bright. The question remains…how long do we have to wait before that skill set shows up. It could be this week…but even if it was, we still won’t get the full package for several seasons. Next year will be a great year for Moore!!! (or else!!!)
I lost a measly $5.00 to my uncle who I worked for in the 1987 SB against the Redskins. How embarrasing.
I still believe in moore DB … just not this year. The guy can’t tackle. And a safety that can’t tackle is pretty useless. im sure he can improve with OTAs and a real offseason. The guys instincts aren’t bad … he will get there … just can’t make the tackle.
They say Tebow can’t hit the broad side of the barn … i think neither can moore lol … he would whiff on tackling a broad barn that is stationary lol. I don’t think we have ever seen picks of Rahim in tackling drill … usually guys like Miller … Moore probably misses the dummy/pads in the tackling drills too lol TRB
