The Broncos host Kansas City this weekend for the 103rd regular-season meeting between the two divisional rivals.
Denver trails the all-time series 47-55, but is 32-19 against the Chiefs at home. The Broncos won the first meeting between the two clubs this season 17-10 at Kansas City.
The teams have met once in the postseason, with the Broncos coming out with a 14-10 victory in what Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway called his greatest memory from his time playing against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Notable performances against the Chiefs:
CB Champ Bailey: In 15 career games against Kansas City, Bailey has intercepted four passes and broken up a total of 14. In addition, he’s forced one fumble and registered a sack in last year’s game at Kansas City on Dec. 5.
DE Elvis Dumervil: Has totaled 6.5 sacks in eight career games vs. Kansas City, including one game where he finished with three sacks and one forced fumble against the Chiefs on Dec. 9, 2007.
CB Andre’ Goodman: Has intercepted passes in three of his five games against Kansas City. In addition to intercepting a pass, he also returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown at Kansas City on Dec. 6, 2009.
DE Jason Hunter: Returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown and posted one sack vs. Kansas City on Nov. 14, 2010.
LB Mario Haggan: Registered a career-high three sacks and forced the fumble that Hunter returned 75 yards for a touchdown vs. Kansas City on Nov. 14, 2010.
Denver-Kansas City Roster Connections
Some interesting roster connections between the Broncos and Chiefs courtesy of research done by Public Relations Intern Cydney Ricker:
Broncos punter Britton Colquitt and Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt are brothers, and are the first brothers to punt in the NFL at the same time since 1941 (George and Wes McAfee).
Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal played opposite Kansas City cornerback Brandon Flowers for three seasons at Virginia Tech (2005-07)
Chiefs running back Le’Ron McClain shared the backfield in Baltimore with Broncos running back Willis McGahee for four seasons (2007-10). Chiefs tackle Jared Gaither blocked for McGahee during that span.

Good morning bloggers!
B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!!!
Hi Bomber… How are you?
Schlereth (spelling?) says the Chiefs win because Orton is better QB than Tebow on the Herd.
One potential weakness on KC is their O-Line.. Not sure, but think they’ve lost a few guys throughout the season..
Zaas – Jared Gaither was cut by the Chiefs and is now on the Chargers..
There are a whole lot of trends working against us in this game.
We already beat KC once, and we very rarely sweep them.
KC is on something of a late season surge. As bay mentioned, they are playing with renewed vigor under Crennel.
Our own streak of late season collapses.
Our tiring and somewhat beat up D.
Our terrible play over the last 2 games.
If we can win this game, it will display a lot of mental toughness for our team.
Yet 85% of the bloggers pick us to win, Bronco blinders I guess, even ex-Bronco Schlereth takes the Broncos to lose this one in his assessment of the game. Hopefully the blinders on works this time around, LOL.
I’m looking everywhere but somehow I misplaced my Bronco blinders…. can’t find them anywhere…
KC Offense ranked 25th passing
KC Offense ranked 12th rushing
KC Defense ranked 9th passing
KC Defense ranked 23rd rushing
This per NFL.com
As Carnage very aptly said:
I do believe that one of the things that many of the bloggers fall victim to is allowing being a FAN of the team to cloud what would be ordinarily good judgment. They are often prisoners of the moment.
After last weeks performance, and that coming off a poor performance against NE, I honestly think there is a good chance we post another poor performance against KC.
Like I said this morning, this game will all come down to how effectively we can run the ball and whether McGahee can carry it 20 times or more. Simple as that. No way Tebow carves that D up. If we can’t control the clock with the running game FGs will be enough for the Chiefs to win this one.
Oooops, I remember, I don’t own any Bronco blinders…
What do you guys think of this:
Schlereth’s lack of Tebow love, tells me that maybe Elway isn’t that high on Tebow.. Elway’s OL would lay down in traffic for him, and if down playing Tebow in the media and going against your former team helps, then that’s what you do..
And Tebow himself knows the importance of our running game for his chances, read what I posted he said this morning about it, one thing Tebow is for sure, he isn’t dumb, he knows what he needs to be successful at this point of his NFL career, a superb running game. But Fox didn’t load the team with enough valuable backs so here we are…
I think Elway supports Tebow, just not as the future franchise QB of the Denver Broncos. I think they love his intangibles but Tebow still lacks what he needs to be an effective passer in this league. Elway may or may not take the time this offseason that he stated and work with Tim but if they draft a QB and he performs better than Tebow in TC than we could see less of Tebow. I’m just saying in the past two weeks we needed Tebow to step up and play well and well frankly he didn’t…they all didn’t. But given his progress so far this season maybe an offseason will prove otherwise…
Time will tell.. Not to get into a draft discussion, but I guess I could get behind drafting a QB, but I’m personally so tired of seeing our defense the last 10 years, that the thought of the D not being the priority seems short sighted to me…
The funny thing is, whether the broncos win or lose, it would make a decent sports movie. The only question is whether tebow or orton would be the main character.
Does the “much-maligned” veteran get a chance late in the season to prove himself against the team that cast him away in favor of the pre-enshrined “young punk.” (in the Orton based movie, Tebow would be a despicable character that would be eventually proven to be over-rated).
Or,
Does the “revolutionary young gun” rock the establishment by completing a drastic turnaround – after getting the reins from the “stodgy, old-regime-style QB” – and taking his team to the tournament after years and years of misery. (in this movie, orton would play himself).
Pretty crazy it came down to this.. One positive thing I heard Tebow say in the interview posted yesterday, was that he said they need to be more balanced and don’t always have to be spectacular.. Maybe someone talked to him about checking down, and it wasn’t necessarily the play calls..
I’d like to see Tebow be able to complete a pass to his RB, with soft touch, while back peddling in the face of a pass rush..
I don’t think the key to this game is our running game. I think it’s our pass rush. Orton doesn’t perform under pressure, as we all know too well. KC can be beat with us only putting up 12-14 points IF we keep Orton under pressure. Sure, our running game is important, but not the biggest factor IMO.
Teddy Bruschi is explaining exactly why Von’s Cast is affecting his game… Walking through it move by move on ESPN right now…
Just like we talked about… once they get their hands on him he has real trouble..
The key is that all three phases need to show up this week, ST, O, and D. Our special teams didn’t show up at all last week and I’m not sure why. We all have to remember Orton doesn’t turn the ball over. So pressuring him to just throw the ball away or in the dirt will be a postive.
To the QB draft talk. I will stick to my guns until proven wrong. We draft heavily on defense and RB’s. We may draft a QB late, such as a Yates type, but I don’t see it as a priority. There is an * to my theory though. If somehow we can trade up to get Luck we would do it, but I find this unlikely. All conspiracy theories aside, Tebow has shown enough progress to get his 35-45 starts for a true assessment. You simply can’t argue with W’s, which we have produced under him.
Running is our game. Thats what we need to play, our game. A bunch of rushing attempts and about 10 of 15 for tebow … no more.
Quite frankly I have no blinders on. We may suck but I think the chiefs suck way more. Even from the outside looking in my assesment would be the same. Lost Eric Berry, Jamaal Charles, Battle, Cassel and some other Key people … we may lose only because of the knowledge Orton has on us. Im sure our D especially champ knows some tells and tendencies of Orton as well.
I personally believe we only truly lose against a vastly superior offense which they lack.
We are focusing on our flaws cuz we know them, and watch this team every week. However if we were chiefs fans and watched them day in and day out … we would see thier major flaws as well. Its like when other fans who only watch highlights of our games we trying to tell US how great our Defense was. But we knew the truth even tho they did make occasional plays.
As far as shreleth goes … the guy has had nothing good to say about the broncos since he left. Granted we haven’t been worthy of high praise in a long time but every time i hear something out of shreleths mouth about the broncos … its often negative.
Broncos win. I already Gauranteed it. And I will again. Why be cause the cheifs suck and so does Orton.
TRB
The pressure on Orton will not be the biggest factor in the game simply because KC takes pride in running the ball and that’s their strength, just my opinion and really don’t care to argue it, LOL.
Orton must not suck that much..he beat the Packers.
Orton inside the redzone equals 3 points. Thats the formula, 3, 6, 9, or 12 points at the most. Broncos will win.
I found this interesting and sounds oh so familiar LOL.

this Colts – Jags game coming up is among the most pathetic ever. Both teams have more to win by losing.
The colts might lock up the number one pick, which is supposed to be worth more than any in the last 10 years. And Jags are in the same division as the colts, and the worst thing for them at this season would be to help the Colts lock up that No. 1 overall pick.
TRB…agreed. Any educated football fan is going to know the weaknesses of their team. We focus heavily on them in this blog. Ecspecially when it comes to QB play (weather it be Tebow, Orton, Cutler, Quinn, Plummer, or anyone else post Elway). When you don’t have an elite QB, you focus on other aspects of the game, primarily defense to get wins while you hope to stumble across an elite QB. That recipe has worked for the Steelers, Ravens, Packers, Bears. The exception is when you start with an elite QB such as the Pats, Saints, and Colts.
Schneider,
Seriously? Seriously? Orton DID NOT beat the packers … the defense did because limiting rodgers is a feat once thought to be impossible. Its funny because when people said TT was doing it … everyone was up in arms that it was the team … but not just you but i have heard others especially on NFL.com and DP say that Orton beat the packers … that is possibly the most laughable statement I ever heard. Second times the charm I guess … sure aint look that awesome the first time when he threw like 3 picks, 1 a pick six and a fumble to boot. Guy didn’t even throw a TD against the packers (as a chief). Most of his yards came on screens where RB did most of the work. But you are totally right … he did beat the packers. Im hoping that was sarcasm.
TRB
Brian what games of ours were you watching while Orton was here to say “he doesn’t turn the ball over”? He was on pace to have the most INT this year before he was benched. Last week he had 2 INT. He also has a hard time scoring more than a FG in the red zone just like when he played here. Even his own coach (Romeo) says that they struggle in the red zone. What I would watch out for are the plays between the 50 and 30. He has 9 TD and 9 INT so far this year and that is with starting 7 games and he 2-5 in those starts.
Now thats what I`m saying Shaztah. Those that are saying the Chiefs will win, especially the media are only in wishful thinking mode. Everyone knows REALLY that the Broncos will win. I don`t give K.C. a shot. One name to mention, Orton. I expect us to sack Orton 5 times or more. The media just wants contraversy is all. NO CONTEST!!
BTW his career completion rate is 58.4 and QB rating is 78.5
No contest, why bother playing the thing, LOL.
people thinking this is game is going to be easy are forgetting this is a rivalry game, too.
Even when the Chiefs went 2-15 in 2008, guess where they got one of those wins. Hint, the other was against the Raiders.
Sorry all Bay will tell you how I feel about Orton and I have felt that way before the season even started. He is only concerned about his own personal numbers and not the team. He has no emotion an d does not care about any of the fans, not in Chicago, not here and I bet not in KC either. That is why I think he will not care at all when the Denver fans BOO him like crazy on Sunday. I just wonder if all the stuff that was said about him showing up late for meetings and not participating or offering to help the team in any way he can was true. How many times did we hear Tim say before he was our starter that he would do ANYTHING he could to help the team win. That included lining up as a WR when needed.
Heh, the suspense is killing me.
I think we all know it will not be an easy game to win and that we need to put 110% into it but I think the Bronco’s DO want it more.
One TD for the Broncos wins the game, the Chiefs only score FGs. So a TD and a few FG`s by Prater gives us the win. There will be no OT in this game.
For cripes sakes he guy just threw 2 interceptions again last week. Now don’t get me wrong … we arent exactly turnover gurus. When we play Phillip Rivers he was lading in INTs and when we played Fitzpatrick HE was leading in INTs and we couldn’t get a single pick …. but while I do fear the rivalry, understand that beating them twice is tough, and am aware of thier flaws … we are seriously starting to give the chiefs a whole lot more credit than they deserve … this isnt 2008 or 7 or 9 or whichever years we crashed and missed playoffs. This is 2011 and until that whistle blows to signify the end of the game sunday, we are yet to have another repeat of missing the playoffs. History tends to repeat itself yes, but just like the 7 game losing streak buffalo was one … trends come to an end eventually.
TRB
There are no easy games. and no one person wins a game. Philosophies im sure we all understand.
Well if we kept 1-4 Orton and let him play out the season we would have been eliminated from the playoffs a long time ago.
I think some of us have forgotten that 7-3 Tebow is the one who got us to this point, into position to even have a chance to get into the playoffs.
Even if we draft a QB in the 1st round, Tebow will still be the starter in 2012. You all might as well get used to it. You’re going to get “Tebowed” FOR YEARS!!!! hahahahaha!!!
Tebow is a Bronco. The starting Denver Bronco QB. The Starting Denver Bronco QB about to take yall’s sorry butts into the playoffs for the first time in years.
Tebows Broncos are going to defeat Ortons Chiefs and we will be hosting a playoff game in Mile High! Take it to the BANK!!!!!!
If turning a 1-4 team into a playoff team aint enough to satisfy all the Big BroncEGOs here than I don’t know what to tell ya?
Besides, by the time we draft in the 1st round, all the great QB’s will be gone like a puff of smoke along with all the hopes of those wanting to dump Tebow and draft a top QB. Then what? Guess what, Tebow is the only chance we have to be a contender today and next year.
Maybe we should try rooting for the guy? Hey, there’ a novel thought….
POUR IT ON TEBOW!!!!!! KEEP THE DRIVE ALIVE BRONCOS!!!!!
ILMSDB!!!!!
Tempers are flaring up with the season on the line, now if the players can get half as excited about it as the bloggers we might have a shot, LOL.
OC… I love the positivity!!!
