Semifinalists for The Hall

November 28th, 2010 - 12:36pm by Gabe Hiatt

Two former Broncos survived the cut from 114 preliminary nominees to 26 modern-era semifinalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Shannon Sharpe and Terrell Davis will wait and see if they make the list of 15 modern-era finalists to be decided by mail ballot and announced in January 2011.

The Class of 2011 will be determined at the Selection Committee’s annual meeting on Saturday, February 5, in North Texas the day before Super Bowl XLV. The election results will be announced at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) during a one-hour NFL Network special, live from the Super Bowl media headquarters.

Sharpe played tight end for the Broncos from 1990-99 and 2002-03, contributing to two consecutive Super Bowl championships for Denver and one for the Baltimore Ravens. A former seventh-round draft pick, Sharpe made eight Pro Bowl appearances, including seven consecutive trips the game. He earned All-Pro Honors four times.

Davis also contributed to two Super Bowl consecutive titles for the Broncos, and is one of only six running backs in NFL history to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a season.

The AP named Davis it’s 1998 NFL MVP for that performance, and the back was named MVP of Super Bowl XXXII after rushing for 157 yards and becoming the first running back in NFL history to rush for three touchdowns in the Super Bowl. The former sixth-round pick spent all seven of his professional seasons with the Broncos.

TD must get in for me – postseason rushing is where it counts and he did it!

Short career? Yes. Brilliant career? Yes. Should be in..

Either a player should be in the HoF or he shouldn’t. No preliminary lists, no semi-finalists, no finalists, no votes, no lobbying – just look at every player and then decide if they are in or out.

Regardless if they make it or not, they are in every Bronco fans HOF. Love to see them go in together. Great players who have given us great memories.

Have never understood the need for a hall of fame.

The fans of each team have their favourites but when it comes down to it the playing records of each player is there for all to see. If I were a player I would be looking at my championships and super bowl rings, not something decided by peoples’ opinions.

It is down to each team to crown their own favourite sons and in our case both of these gentlemen are there. It is not up to others to tell us who are the Broncos’ greats, and how they compare to others. Obviously the Broncos’ players are a class apart.

TD was better than CMartin during the same playing years but CM played longer and he played East coast so he will be in and Td will not. If Sharpe doesn’t get in this year he probaly will never make it. Still can’t believe Atwater did not make the cut.
