Eddie Royal’s 85-yard punt return for the go-ahead touchdown in Sunday’s 38-24 win against the Oakland Raiders earned the wide receiver AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for Week 9.
It’s the first such award for a Bronco this season.
Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway congratulated Royal on his Twitter account.
On Monday, Royal was quick to give credit to Quan Cosby, who he said has “been doing a great job for us” as a punt returner since joining the team just before Week 3.
But he said he always jokingly whispered to Special Teams Coordinator Jeff Rodgers to let him field a punt.
“Let me get back there, I still got it, let me make a play,” Royal smiled. “So when the game came down, I think there were five minutes left, he kind of looked at me and said, ‘Come on.’ I thought he was joking at first, and then he said, ‘Come on.’ I hopped up. It was a great play. The guys did a great job of blocking and it all worked out.”
Royal also earned the award in 2009, when he became the 11th player in NFL history to return a punt (71 yds.) and a kickoff (93 yds.) for a touchdown in the same game at San Diego. He also earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October.

I believe that our defense is really starting to gel together and put things in perspective for the opposing offenses and qb’s. Looking at out schedule, personally I do not think there is one team on there that we can not beat. With that said, let me say that it will take a lot of work from all sides of the ball to get this job done, but the remaining of the schedule is doable.
The main thing that we need to concentrate on right now is this coming up game with KC. If our defense brings their “A” game, this will be a win for us easily. I feel that our offense is getting it together to the point that the opposing teams are going to have to question is he going to pass, run, do one of those fantastic fake handoffs and run himself or what. I believe that the play calling is beginning to show some promise. Just a bit more work and it will get even better. It was quite obvious the second half that Oakland was completely confused. That simply due to passes were being made and the running game being confusing to them. They had to lighten up the rush defense on our offense which gave everybody time to get the play together and get it done.
If our defense puts the pressure on the opposing qb, there is not one of the next games we can not win, and that includes NE.
Bronco’s 31
KC 24
Yeh those fake handoffs were perfect he followed him a long way b4 he broke off his own run i didnt know who had the ball myself so of course linemen being n the way of them would make it harder 2 tell
Is today their first practice this week? I know Fox gave them Monday off but what about yesterday?
The fake handoffs even had the camera crew as well as the announcers fooled. That was priceless!!
I wonder if they could pass out of one of those fake handoffs? Idk might take too long 2 develop. Hope they try that on the next game bc i know kc will be looking for dat play when they see the formation might be a good time to pass and they not know what hit them
I don’t see why they couldn’t if he has a receiver open to get it to. The problem the defense has with that is…they don’t know who has the ball! The fakes were so good the Oakland defense was completely fooled every time they did that.
Hehe, if Oppinions were dollars you would all be rich! but unfortunately, oppinions are more like *ss Holes (everybody has one and most of them stink)…
So… that said; let us reexamine the Haynesworth situation on merrit and not on personel oppinions. There is no doubt that Haynesworth is a low character player, but the last McGenius that was coaching here only had a draft board of only 100 “High Character Guys”…
This is not the NFFL (NATIONAL FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE)… Most MEN that play this sport have attitudes, and attitude is what gives you the ability to impose your will on opponents… We don’t do this and it is directly reflected in our record the last 3 years…
I’m not saying Haynesworth is another Vick, (Fallen superstar that can resurrect his career in an optimal situation) but what I’m saying is that even with a Character issue Haynesworth makes this TEAM better… No arguing the fact he is an upgrade in Talent, the coaches get paid millions as well to optimize these types of situations…
Bring him, let him smash some heads and you guys will change your tune… If we bring him in and he’s a bust, then hey… we got what we expected…
In conclusion, for these reasons I feel that he is worth a shot… Let Timmy Tebow show big fella the ‘Light’!!!
I just hope the play calling is at it’s best. The read option was clearly successful in Oakland. However, I don’t think you can just “go to it!”
I believe this would be a great time to come out with short out routes and screen passes. Open up the moving pocket with small passes to build some more passing confidence with Tim. Hit em’ with straight runs, sprinkle in the read option and then when they are just about to “spy” Tim after the first “read option” looks they are getting move the pocket and hit decker or eddie on a slant.
but….please be aware where they’re DB is at…He’s playing well!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
The read/run option can work but only if the pass game has a couple of 15 to 20 yard completions to draw the defense away. if the pass game struggles The read/run option may be toast.
P.S. Broncfalls, I agree with your suggestions for Tebow

I agree with Bronco_Turtle. Bring Haynesworth in. He has to be better than Unrein and possibly even McBean. Worst case scenario is he stinks and plays with no heart or passion and we cut him. What do we have to lose?
Oh, not much really, maybe just part of the locker room is all.
haynsworth is a fat tubby and deserves to play in the cfl.
maybe haynsworth and cj2k can team up once again in the cfl overpayed losers in my opinion
That’s when you really understand it takes all kinds to make the world go round, multiple folks here saying it’s a good idea to bring Haintworthit in, oh my….
maybe cj2k can join his former teamate there aswell overpayed losers
man my computer is acting crazy right now i posted the same crap twice my bad.
i think our d has played well enough that bringing in fat albert would be not woth trying. our d has gotten better each week it seems and will continue that trend.
