Rookie Mini-Camp Begins Today

May 11th, 2012 - 7:47am by Stuart Zaas

The Broncos’ 2012 rookie class arrived to the team’s Dove Valley training facility on Thursday to go through physicals, get fitted for equipment and take care of other administrative items.

Today they will take the field for the first time.

The Broncos rookie mini-camp runs from today through Sunday and is mandatory for all rookies.

The team is scheduled to hold a practice at 10:45 a.m. MDT. We’ll hear from Coach Fox and a few of the rookies following that first practice.

Check back to DenverBroncos.com later today for news, photos and video from today’s availability.

Below is the list of 30 players that will participate in this weekend’s rookie mini-camp. Included are two tryout players: running back Demario Pippen (Jackson State) and safety Anthony Perkins (Colorado).

While it is referred to as a rookie mini-camp, various NFL rules stipulate that certain non-rookies are also eligible to participate.

None of the players participating in this weekend’s camp have appeared in an NFL game.

Please teach them that it is Broncos Country, not Broncos Nation!

    Here We Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. killerkod says:

    repost from the last blog:

btw – just thinking about heward-bey’s DUI……….what ever happened to Praters? He was never disciplined by the league…….is that something that can happen this year? Same with Moreno?

    Anyone know?

Also, congrats AB for learning about the twins………SCARY DUDE! lol I like two-for-ones at the bar, not for kids! lol But at least you’ll get it all over with at once……..we’re going to have to go through it all again next year when we try for our second.

  4. OrangeTsunami says:

Big day today!!! So I guess the rooks don’t have to be signed to participate today?

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

kod, done got 3 myself,17,16,and 12.Glad they are almost grown, then I’ll have more time for myself, but don’t close your eyes for a second or they’ll grow up,way too fast bro.Having a blast raising them and teaching them what I know(sometimes they think they already know everything, lol) you gotta love kids tho!

Congrats on the twins AB,gonna be a handful bro, better be having your fun now before they get here, lol.

Everyone in Broncos Country have a nice weekend!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Guess not OT.

  7. OrangeTsunami says:

Appears that way.. I guess as per the new CBA, these practices are very light. No pads, no contact, etc.

  8. BeastFromEast92 says:

I still would love to be there to see it tho!

  9. OrangeTsunami says:

Me too! I would love to see JDR break in them ‘rooks!!! Lol

Well said Monk, Well Said. Drives me crazy when I hear Nation from Miller, Tebow when he was here, and other guys on the team. Broncos Country. Always and forever. But then again, I wonder if the coaches even know that. Probably don’t pay attention to it. It seems like its only the fans that care about that. I doubt Elway even calls it Broncos Country. After all, Shannon Sharpe a long time Bronco said, “This is a proud day for Broncos Nation” when we got Peyton. If the Bronco ring of famers can
‘t get it right, I hold little hope for the new crop being brought up by guys like Fox who aren’t Bronco born.

On another note, rookie camp on tha way. Should be cool. I feel the first year pro and last years rookies should come to this one too. They missed thiers lol

Drayton florence. Didn’t think we needed him, but i stand corrected. Looks like Vaughn will be a full time returner which is good. He excells at that. Because the man will not get any playtime at DB between champ, porter, florence and chris harris. Dunno why we got some more old legs but watever. I fear guys like Syd might end up being cut.

    Laters days, TRB

  11. BeastFromEast92 says:

I think we keep 6 CBs
    Champ
    Porter
    Florence

    Harris
    Bolden
    Sid or Vaughn

But man I hope Judie makes the cut,he’s bad fast and a Helluva K/R P/R!

  12. killerkod says:

Does anyone know my question about prater and his DUI charge from last summer? Will he be suspended this season from the league under the conduct rule?

  13. OrangeTsunami says:

Well, Florence has proved to be very durable throughout his NFL career, starting all 16 games the last two seasons, and never appearing in less than 13 games in a season, including his rookie year. Thompson, Vaughn and Bolden are all coming off injuries, so we don’t know how their bodies will respond. I like the signing from a depth perspective, as we all know that injuries are part of the game. If those three guys come back from injury, and the whole group stays healthy all through training camp, deciding who to cut will be a high class problem IMO.

  14. 1nOnlyTRB says:

They will probably just stick Bolden on the practice squad or something. he might be the only CB on that list that is still eligible for practice squad. Well at least they are preping for the future. Porter afterall only signed a 1 year contract. Could be gone next year like bunk.

    TRB

  15. OrangeTsunami says:

I don’t know kod, but that happened a while ago so I would think if he was going to be suspended, it would have happened already. I also think it was his first offense, unless I’m missing something.

  16. 1nOnlyTRB says:

They should be fine. Moreno and Prater. Its not like they are repeat offenders. I believe suspensions only apply to repeat offenders within a yearly time frame. Like if you have gotten more than 1 DUI or offense within 3 years or something. They should be fine.

    TRB

  17. Stuart Zaas says:

OrangeTsunami: That is correct – rookies do not have to be signed to participate in mini-camps.

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah Prater and Moreno won’t be suspended.

  19. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Thanks Stuart.

  20. OrangeTsunami says:

Thanks Stuart! Hopefully we’ll get some photos from practice later!

    :D

  21. OrangeTsunami says:

Seems like Damario Pippen was invited to try out, I think that’s Tides guy. Wonder why there are some non rookies on the list practicing today, maybe because they never appeared in a game I suppose.

  22. OrangeTsunami says:

Those photos of our boys getting fitted are great! Really cool to see that process taking place!

  23. bfree2bronc says:

Derek Wolfe has huge hands and feet!

  24. Stuart Zaas says:

OrangeTsunami – NFL rules allow certain non-rookies to participate. Goodwin and Sylvester are technically second-year players because they did spend time on the Broncos’ active roster last season, but since they did not play in a game they can be a part of this mini-camp. The rest of the players participating are either rookies or first-year players.

  25. killerkod says:

Hey OT……….good luck to your rangers tomorrow night. Game 7′s are so hard to predict, as anything can happen. It should be a barn-burner to say the least though and I’m totally looking forward to it. I’m still holding on to my prediction of a Caps-Kings final………7th seed in the east vs. the 8th seed in the west……………gotta love that!

  26. OrangeTsunami says:

Thanks again Stuart, you’re the man!

  27. OrangeTsunami says:

kod – big game Saturday, not talking any smack this time.. Lol

Catch y’all later, I got called into a client meeting.. Gotta run!

    TGIF!!!

  28. MarshMelo15 says:

Kod… I believe since it was both Prater’s and Moreno’s first offense they will not be punished with suspensions. Suspensions usually happen after the second offense. However, players who usually get DUIs usually have to enroll in the leagues substance abuse program.

  29. killerkod says:

okay, thanks guys…………it kinda happened then disappeared so I wasn’t sure if anything would come out of it. Let’s hope they can stay outta trouble this year. And I hope DJ wins his case and has his suspension overruled………lord knows we could sure use him from game 1 on.

  30. Broncobet says:

Getting closer to football!! I don’t think you can put Bolden on the practice squad without the danger of him being signed to other squads. A Franklin still out there as a nose tackle, we do have to be able to stuff the run since our defense against the pass has gotten so much better…what a great addition Wolfe will be.Go Broncos!!

  31. Atwater4HOF says:

I don’t think Bolden will be a practice squad guy. If I remember correctly, a guy must pass through waivers before being put on the practice squad.

That’d be a huge risk to take with him.

After the draft I saw Demario Pippen signed with us and then the reports conflicted with that. Him having a tryout makes MUCH more sense and I am relieved that situation has come full circle lol. He’s a scat back

  32. strandOFTDS says:

    new blog

  33. strandOFTDS says:

Theres no way you put Bolden on the PS!

  34. dragonbones says:
