With Wayne Nunnely retiring, Jay Rodgers — who spent the past three seasons as a defensive assistant with the club, including working primarily with Nunnely and the defensive line in 2011 — now takes over as the club’s defensive line coach.
“I’m excited for this opportunity,” Rodgers said. “I am extremely grateful to Coach Nunnely for all I’ve learned from him over the past three seasons.”
Rodgers is in his fourth season with the club after working nine seasons at the collegiate level.
“The defensive line will be in good hands with Jay Rodgers, whom I’ve worked with very closely for the last three years,” Nunnely said. “He is very deserving of this opportunity, which he has earned through his hard work and knowledge. Jay has many great qualities as a person and coach that will make him successful in his new role.”
Head Coach John Fox said he has no doubt that Rodgers’ time with Nunnely “has prepared him for this opportunity that he has earned,” and defensive end Elvis Dumervil agreed.
“He’s a young, bright coach,” Dumervil said of Rodgers. “He knows a lot — he’s been around. I think he’s extremely smart. He’s learned a lot from Coach Nunnely as well and I think his future is bright. It was very fortunate to be able to have Coach Rodgers on staff and get him in. But, also sad to have Coach Nunnely retire.”
The Broncos will be back on the practice field this coming Monday for OTAs.

alrighty………..I’m out for the evening. Looking forward to catching up with the blog in the morning. Peace out AB!
I’m the best on sides punt returner ever…EVER! That’s what the school bus driver tells me.
Just give me a bucket for my dome, turn me loose and watch me roam.
I didn’t know Peyton was Budist? The more you know.
I once kicked a ball all the way to California from Nevada. True story.
Greetings Broncos Country, from a rainy day in New York…. Couple of things:
1) great start for the Blue Shirts last night, taking an early lead in the series, with a 3-0 victory over the Devils. Chris Krieder continues to impress, as the 21 year old rookie, who only a few months ago won his second consecutive NCAA national championship with Boston College, is now contributing in a big way at the biggest stage, having a goal and an assist helping the Rangers en route to victory.
2) great to hear other teams were interested in Wolfe other than the Ravens, which doesn’t really surprise me. No one knows for sure how things will shake out, but I’d much rather have a kid with a great attitude, strong work ethic, and none stop motor, who flew slightly under the radar, resulting in a chip on his shoulder, over an overrated Prima Donna with a sense of entitlement. I have a great feeling about Derek Wolfe.
3) I heard that not only did Osweiler’s motion look a lot better at his pro day, but he decided to throw, against recommendations not to, because of heavy winds. Apparently he went ahead, and displayed a very accurate and strong arm in windy conditions, which sent his pre draft stock soaring. I think we got a clear would be first rounder in 2013, if he went back for his senior year, in the second round this year. Makes perfect sense to me.
4) I see Tide showing off the smarts today! Kudos!
Yes, I realize that Tebow is no longer a Bronco, but this is about a little boy named Blake Appleton, that Tebow flew to Denver from Florida, for the KC game in January. Some of you may remember he had cancer and only had a few months to live, but Tebow gave him and his whole family a wonderful trip with several fun activities during their stay, and it meant the world to Blake, according to his mom.
Today, at the age of nine, he passed away. Say what you want about Tebow, but he represented the Broncos well, and impacted many lives during his time in Denver. RIP little Blake Appleton.
Hey, OT! Didn’t see your post before I made mine. How ya doin?
I’m great Tide! Well, I’m as good as one can be on a busy, rain filled day.. How’s everything down near you?
Too bad to hear about Blake Appleton.. I was not aware of his story, but I’m glad that Tebow was able to do such a nice thing for him during his last days on Earth. I think it would be difficult for anyone to question Tebow’s motives, as he’s no doubt the real deal. As for his football career, I really hope he can get to another team, as he just doesn’t fit with them one bit. I think the Jets are going to completely implode this season, and I would be lying if said I wasn’t looking forward to it, although I’m rooting for Tebow, if that’s possible…

Hi, Tide — good to hear from you!
New blog.
Yeah, I saw that about Ellis. The Jets knew about it before they drafted him, so I guess they weren’t too terribly worried about it.
Not sure what to expect from the Jets this year, or the Broncos either, quite yet. As you know, I’m maintaining my “wait and see” mode until the season starts. It’s sort of like the the draft to me…just because you want it to turn out a certain way doesn’t mean it will. I just kick back and watch what happens. But you guys enjoy hashing it out, and that’s okay too.
Catch you later. Hubby just got home and we’ve got things to do.
you guys put down algebra and then argue about it over and over. It’s 13 and alternative answers get zero credit.Asking all Broncos to take a pay cut is ridiculous,PM is is already giving us a discount; he could have gotten more if cash was his only consideration.I’m happy that Doom and Champ make a lot of money. What was awful was rookies making so much and that has been remedied.I do feel uneasy that we don’t have a prototypical nose tackle my solution 1)let Ben Garland gain a bunch of weight (he’s had to stay under 39″ for AF) 2)Sign A Franklin 3) Warren comes to his senses. This team seems so ready I’d hate to go into the season without addressing this obvious need. I am so impressed with John Elways’ management ,it is critical to not overpay and to not let talented players get away.Go Broncos!!
Take care Tide. Don’t be a stranger now, ya hear?
Bb – I’m curious to see how the D Line will shake out as well. My thought is we are going to have a big time rotation, and have guys bounce all over the line, rather than having a few guys play in set positions, but who knows?
I’m actually looking forward to see if Sealver Siliga can make a run at being our nose tackle.. Big ‘ol Samoan boy!
Would of liked to see Tebow stick around as a Bronco but the only person Elway could of brought in here to replace him was Manning. I like everything about Tebow hated to see him go. I figured Elway would do a good job in the front office but i thought it may take a little time. He is making some big waves should be fun to see how it all turns out. Get ready to turn up the HORSEPOWER!
I was thinking about the Outlook for this season and the way last off season went and there are glaring differences. Last year we signed Willis McGahee and he had some injuries over the year. In addition the rookies had a tough time impacting the team… even Miller and Franklin who both got going after a few games. This year coaches work with players all off season and will be conditioning and receiving treatment… etc… I think this will have a big difference on the team and the offense and defense will both be getting off to much better starts with the extended time to learn
Thank You Coach Wayne Nunnely.
I am very, very, excited about our Broncos this year\season. We will be so prepared. I think the addition of Manning, Porter, and the draftee’s / college free agents, we will be a very strong team. We will do very well in the A.F.C. WEST this year and should win it. We will do alot better then people think. We have depth at alot of positions now. Some of the players might be young bugt with the leaders and pro Bowlers that we have on our team, the young new guys will follow the veterans lead and work hard to win. We are in a good position and will only get better. I really like what Elway is doing with our team. Hes building our team through the draft, keeping our core players and making us younger and better all around the board. We are developing a dynasty people. Even when Manning call it quits, I think Osweiler will be more than ready to take over and lead us to VICTORY. GO BRONCOS IWILLx2. I think The Manning,Thomas,Decker combination will be in the top 10 this year in all of the important catagories. McGahee,Mareno, and who ever compliments them will have a record breaking year this season so GET READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL. The Broncos are COMING and will kick much BUTT this year on ! I told you first IWILLX2
