Rodgers Takes Over as Defensive Line Coach

May 14th, 2012 - 3:02pm by Gray Caldwell

With Wayne Nunnely retiring, Jay Rodgers — who spent the past three seasons as a defensive assistant with the club, including working primarily with Nunnely and the defensive line in 2011 — now takes over as the club’s defensive line coach.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” Rodgers said. “I am extremely grateful to Coach Nunnely for all I’ve learned from him over the past three seasons.”

Rodgers is in his fourth season with the club after working nine seasons at the collegiate level.

“The defensive line will be in good hands with Jay Rodgers, whom I’ve worked with very closely for the last three years,” Nunnely said. “He is very deserving of this opportunity, which he has earned through his hard work and knowledge. Jay has many great qualities as a person and coach that will make him successful in his new role.”

Head Coach John Fox said he has no doubt that Rodgers’ time with Nunnely “has prepared him for this opportunity that he has earned,” and defensive end Elvis Dumervil agreed.

“He’s a young, bright coach,” Dumervil said of Rodgers. “He knows a lot — he’s been around. I think he’s extremely smart. He’s learned a lot from Coach Nunnely as well and I think his future is bright. It was very fortunate to be able to have Coach Rodgers on staff and get him in. But, also sad to have Coach Nunnely retire.”

The Broncos will be back on the practice field this coming Monday for OTAs.

    Broncos!

You guys enjoy the day! I’m off to the garden to plant some zinnias and do some weeding. It’s a beautiful, cool morning (61) here in Alabama. Perfect for gardening and enjoying the outside.

Wow Tide. Very correct. Nice job!

Heres the answers with the reasons.

    1. Answer: Yes, because a plane’s wheels roll freely and have no affect on the movement of the plane(unlike a car). The propellor or jet engine makes the plane move and the plane will be able to take off normally.

    2. Answer: E (one, two, three, four, five, six, seven eight)

    3. Answer: It’s the numbers 0 through 10 in alphabetical order.

    4. Answer: It’s the cabin of a plane and the plane crashed.

    5. Answer: None. The boat is floating on the water, so as the tide rises, so does the ladder.

Im sure this may show up sometime today as a blog. But its going to be “Salt n Pepper” time this year in Denver with Manning throwing the ball!!!

I’m def looking forward to some salt n pepper! Manning must be the ketchup!

  8. killerkod says:

or maybe Manning’s the malt vinegar…………either way he’ll make salt n pepper better!

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

Maybe PM is the s’n'p shaker,he’ll sprinkle “Salt n Pepper” on every opposing Defense, lol.

Curious post from Bill Williamson @ESPN. He must be lacking for blog material this morning, but Turtle and Daddy don’t seem to be totally isolated in their concerns about PM. Guess these guys have to write about something to fill the space.

wow……….now that article was uninspired and unoriginal. That blog deserves a huge DUH!!!!!!!!!!

  13. killerkod says:

    but thanks for sharing tide…………..

  14. orangepickle says:

    Wow!

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

Like Kod said that isnt surprising one bit. I think everyone on here has said that. I know I have. I have said I still have concerns but what people are saying about it is soothing it some but its still there.

But also like Kod said thanks for sharing Tide.

  16. killerkod says:

no real point to having concerns at this point. It is what it is and we’re going with PM and his rehabilitated neck. Whatever happens will happen but I find it pointless to just assume that he’ll be injured again, as some have alluded to. Until something happens otherwise, I’m remaining confident that our O with PM will have an awesome season.

  17. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Indeed Kod. I had reservations about his neck, which was why i wouldn’t have been sad if we didnt get him (that and other reasons) but as soon as we got him, all those worries were null and void. For better or worse, we ride with PM. At least they drafted a 2nd round quality QB.

    TRB

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

Just because hes our QB doesnt mean we cant have our concerns about it. Im going to be concerned because IF he goes down we turn to Haine or Brock and there goes the season.

Im not saying I dont support him as our QB because I do and im anxious to see what a real QB can do in Denver with the WRs and TEs we have.

  19. orangepickle says:

    Goodness!

  20. strandOFTDS says:

I think the Broncos should cut ties with DT Ty Warren. He isn`t worth the 4 million anymore. None of that money is guaranteed, so just out-right release him. we can use those monies on our draft picks.

  21. orangepickle says:

    Gosh!

  22. strandOFTDS says:

The Prater contract will work itself out, no concerns about Prater in my mind. They`ll come to an agreement if not this year, then next year for sure.

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I cant remember the exact # but Warren costs more to cut than to keep at 4. He would make 5.25 mill this year (1.25 as the signing bonus that was put to this year) But Warren costs like 4.9 mil to cut.

Just like Goodman cost like 5-6 mil but at least we didnt come out on a loss with that one as he was set to make 7-8 mil if I remember correctly.

  24. strandOFTDS says:

Thats a bummer. I didn`t know that. It is what it is then. The Broncos have zero bargaining power then. Gotta live with it!! HaHa!! Thanks for the heads up AB.

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

With Prater if all were going to be doing is scoring TDs why need a kicker to cost a lot? Just go sign a guy who can kick a PAT for 20$ a game ;)

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I may be mistaken. It was a while ago I saw the #’s. I know there was one who was going to cost more to cut than keep. I think it was Warren. I will try to find it again and check.

  27. strandOFTDS says:

AB, I read in the DP a few days ago that Warrens 4 million this year is no guaranteed. I think Klis did the write up. I’m kinda confused. Either he`s wrong or you are. I know you keep ontop of things, I`m just wondering is all. It`ll work out bro.

  28. strandOFTDS says:

Prater is sure fire. John Elway had Elam and you can`t always win games by just all TD`s. Once in a while even a sure fire QB needs a K with a strong leg. Prater has the tag so I`m OK with it. Just me though. LOL

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I am wrong. Warren will cost 1.25 mil to cut (Signing bonus) Saw it back before the combine lol so long time ago.

Only two players cost more to cut than keep and neither of them are going anywhere.

Von Miller who would cost just under 11 mil to cut over 1.4 mil to keep and Rahim Moore 1.3 mil to cut vs 500k to keep.

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I know I was kiddin…..Prater hasnt signed his tender. Before Denver tagged him they made him an offer 5 years not sure the money and he turned it down because he wanted more.

  31. strandOFTDS says:

Cool to know AB. Your the man!!

  32. strandOFTDS says:

LOL AB. No problem. Just small talk. HaHa!

  33. alaskanbronco06 says:

Wow! Apparently the Ravens Steelers Charger and Patriots all were wanting to trade up to get Derek Wolfe. Not only before pick 36 but as high as 24 to the Steelers. According to the report the Ravens contacted Denver before Ravens made pick 35 to see if they could make a deal to move back up to 36 to get Wolfe after Upshaw.

  34. orangepickle says:

Prater Tater, smell ya later. Kick my balls like Darth Vador.

  35. strandOFTDS says:

    They all know something!

  36. orangepickle says:

Use the force to help my horse, I’ll pay for you to buy a porsche.

  37. killerkod says:

Prater would be an idiot to hold out……especially with the strong possibility of making a serious run this year. Not to mention the fact that a 2.6 million tender is nothing to stick your nose up to. Only a handful of other kickers are making more right now…….so take it and try to get something worked out.

  38. alaskanbronco06 says:

Fox on special teams: “Probably the biggest loss was losing Eddie Royal. But we got a young man in Eric Page from Toledo who can step in.”

    Hmmm interesting. Very interesting! ;)

Im going to go out on a limb and say game 1 vs Steelers they shut down our run game and Manning throws for 600+ yards and 7 TDs Decker and DT get 2 TDs apiece and 125 yards for Decker 150 for DT. Tamme pulls in 1 TD and 100 yards Hillman pulls in one TDs and 60 yards Dreesen gets 75 yards Stokley gets 40 yards Caldwell gets 35 and Page gets 15 on 1 catch for a TD.

    A little much?? ;)

  39. alaskanbronco06 says:

5 years for 10-12 mil would be perfect IMO. Hes got a strong leg and very clutch. But lets face it Kickers hardly make more than 3 mil a year

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

Fox on special teams: “Probably the biggest loss was losing Eddie Royal. But we got a young man in Eric Page from Toledo who can step in.”

That says a lot about what they think of Pages return skills.

  41. killerkod says:

lol@AB………….If that comes true you need to move to vegas and put it all on red baby! haha

  42. alaskanbronco06 says:

LMAO Kod!!!! Just showing my support!!! He if Flynn and Stafford can throw 480 and 500+ in a game Manning can get 600+ hes better than both combined with his right arm cut off ;)

Does the Cookie Monster like Cookie Crisp Cereal? You would think so, but I’ve never seen him with a bowl of the stuff. I don’t like the Cookie Monster or Cookie Crisp Cereal. I just like delicious cookies.

  45. killerkod says:

true enough AB! true enough! lol

I think we won’t have to rely on manning’s arm all the time…………..our attack will be balanced…….that’s the way foxy likes it. the run will set up the pass and vice-versa. Defenses will be kept off balance the whole season!

  46. orangepickle says:

I would run from the passing & pass on the running until the precise moment that I had to do one or the other.

  47. killerkod says:

that’s the beauty thing I’m looking forward to watching…………seeing PM call the plays at the line after he’s figured out what the D is doing. That’s a game changer right there!

  48. alaskanbronco06 says:

Kod thats why I said they will shut down our run game so Manning will be forced to pass ;) Im looking forward to Mannings “Purple BOODAH RAIDERS” call vs Oak in Oak :D

  49. killerkod says:

Purple Boodah Raiders sounds like a compliment! lol
