Reunited in Orange and Blue

July 15th, 2009 - 2:38pm by Chris Gentilviso

When Head Coach Josh McDaniels and Daniel Graham are on the same NFL roster, the results have been fruitful.

Eleven playoff games. Nine victories.

Two Super Bowl appearances. Two Super Bowl trophies.

After a two-season hiatus, McDaniels and Graham have joined colors once again, hoping to bring the same rewards they experienced in New England to Denver.

For Graham, the arrival of McDaniels injected a boost of life into his offseason.

“It’s good just reuniting, getting back in this offense,” he said. “It’s been a lot of fun since he’s back here.”

That fun revolves around the presence of an offense that makes great use of Graham’s position.

In his one season with McDaniels as his offensive coordinator (2006), Graham hauled in 21 catches for 235 yards, with two touchdowns in 11 starts. In McDaniels’ final season as New England offensive coordinator (2008), the team rushed for 2,278 yards, marking the highest NFL single-season total since 1985.

In turn, the eight-year veteran knows being a tight end in this system requires great knowledge in both the running game and passing game.  But with previous experience under his belt, Graham is transitioning with relative ease.

“I’m just refreshing my memory,” Graham said. “When you’re in that offense for five years, you really can’t forget much.”

McDaniels has no reason to forget the corps of tight ends he’s inherited here with the Broncos.

Coming off a season where he started all 16 games for the first time in his career, Graham also knows he’s in good company with his fellow tight ends. Last season, he and Tony Scheffler grabbed a combined 72 catches for 1,034 yards.

Coupled with the return of veteran Jeb Putzier and addition of rookie Richard Quinn, Graham expects the position to make a substantial impact on the offense this season.

“We’ve got some good depth on this team,” he said. “Everybody has a certain strength that we all bring to the table. As a group, we’re pretty good.”

  1. tjnartw says:

    Broncos, Ravens, Titans, Patriots
    Giants, Cardinals, Vikings,Panthers

  2. Dr.Chris24 says:

why does everyone see the Ravens beating out the Steelers?

  3. The #1 says:

Tjnartw that looks good to me. Wendell White is gonna have monster yr baring injury.

On another subject did anyone see the video of Chris Berman going off. I think its old. He just cussing up a storm. About using a studio for 15min or something like that.

  4. Marshallman-15 says:

not so much the ravens themselves, but they should get the wild-card and the steelers have to be somewhat lucky to play them in the

they did last year because the steelers happened to play the chargers (which was a bad setup for the chargers) and go on to play the ravens.

  5. Marshallman-15 says:

sorry i meant “to play them in the playoffs”

  6. TheRoyalBeast says:

Im with you Doc, the only chance they possibly have in beating them pitts is if they acquire anquan boldin after losing Mason. My selection for divisional winners are as follows:

NFC – Broncos, Patriots, Steelers, Jaguars
NFC – Redskins, Vikings, Falcons, Cardinals

Not sold on Eagles personally and I think the falcons are a strong team with a young QB. Redskins have inproved their DL. Its gonna be an interesting season.

  7. Greatness007 says:

    AFC NFC
    W= Broncos W=Cards
    E= Pats E=Eagles
    S= Titans S=Panthers
    N= Ravens N=Vikings

If not dramatic stuff happens. This might be the leaders.

  8. BroncoAussie says:

Yeah I think Greatness007 is spot on with his picks, Vikings could be a big chance if Favre comes back.

  9. Dr.Chris24 says:

Favre will make Vikings worse. I like Sage as their quarterback.

  10. The #1 says:

RoyalBeast I think it’s a 50/50 chance they might get him back. On the full version of that radio show he was on. When they ask him why he was feeling that way. (Retiring that is) He was speaking on how Steve’s death made it not seem important no more. That he has family and Steve family to look out for now. So I think it might have been a rushed move.

Looks good Greatness. Oh my bad I mean uub. lol If you look at yesterdays post. You’ll get the joke. lol I Think Wendell will have a monster yr. Eagles will drop a lil in D. They gonna rise though on O.

  11. BroncoAussie says:

He is a HOF I think he would just be better for the team then Sage.

For example, our QB is Favre or our QB is Sage. Favre sounds better and will just lift that team with his heart and leadership. But long term Sage is the answer.

  12. Dr.Chris24 says:

Favre is a gunslinger. he throws way to many ints. they don’t need Favre to throw touchdowns, Adrian Peterson can do that, they just need him to be efficient and not turn the ball over and he has proven in the past that he cannot do that. they need him to “manage” the game.

  13. thatdude807 says:

Did anybody see B. Marshall on nfl network? i know one thing, i’m so tired of jamie dukes…. if u didn’t see it here it is http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/09000d5d811535ed/Marshall-in-studio

  14. BroncoAussie says:

I still like a HOF over a second rate QB. Favre just brings that something extra to lift a team.

  15. Greatness007 says:

BroncoAussie I think with or without Favre. They gonna do good. Peterson is the main piece in that puzzle. Just with Favre the gonna have more confidence to throw down field. You know instead of the ding and dunging it.

The#1 whats up champ. I seen it. Things with some people just stop being funny. Type of people that tell on you. Then tell people if they ever see you. They gonna beat you up. lol I heard the Ravens are tryna talk to Mason now. So you might be right.

  16. The #1 says:

Favre throws too many picks? Doesn’t Sage throw too many picks? Thats why the Texans let him go. Least with Favre, you have a chance to come back from the picks. If I had a choice of a good ( I don’t think Favre is great anymore though) QB or a serviceable one. I pick good. Adrian is not gonna have it every game. No one in this league does.

  17. Dr.Chris24 says:

I would’e hped Marshall handled that a little better. I hate Jaime Dukes, and I hate him with a passion.

  18. Dr.Chris24 says:

The Texans let him go because Matt Schaub is a better quarterback and the Vikings offered a draft pick so its logical. Brett Favre is 40 years old. he has a hurt throwing arm. I don’t see him playing like the Brett Favre that we usually see.

  19. Greatness007 says:

Good point #1. Even though I like the Viks. Lookout for the Packers too. They might surprise this yr. Jags, Jets, Redskins might do the same. They Matt Ryan won’t sneak up on teams now.

  20. BroncoAussie says:

I have heard he is rehabbing well from the surgery he had to repair the injuryed arm. I just like Favre better he just brings that something extra to the team.

  21. The #1 says:

I think he was the only option they had. Favre was retire and still on the Jets. They didn’t let him go till after the Draft. the other teams that had Qb’s on the market wanted more. In the Vikings eyes he could compete with Jackson. If other teams would have agreed to there price . Sage might not have been there. They said they didn’t go after Cutler because they already traded for a QB. If they would have. Sage would have been in the trade.

  22. Greatness007 says:

The difference is With Favre. Adrian will see a 7 man front. Without though 8- to 9 all day. I like his odds better against a 7 man. You see what he has been doing with the 8 and 9 man fronts. So with will be better.

  23. The #1 says:

Was it me or was Brandon tryna fuel the fire. On being trade that is. Maybe I’m putting to much into it. It was all the talk about team. He would say they not we. Just funny to me.

  24. BroncoAussie says:

Yep he was, he wants out but he doesn’t want to lose money so he will show up for training camp.

  25. Marshallman-15 says:

Jackson (I believe) is better than favre, but favre is so overrated that he makes the rushing more dangerous. You see, their opponents just stack the rush, so AP has more people covering him.

  26. BroncoAussie says:

I know he is ungrateful. He should just be happy that he is lucky enough to play the sport he loves and get payed for it.

  27. The #1 says:

Yeah Marshall 15. Greatness posted that earlier. That is a valid point. I have not seen on any sports show.

No one answered my Question though. Did anyone see that vid of Chris Berman going off on air. Cussing up a storm about using a studio for 15 min. It was something like that. A told m about it. I’m tryna find it on youtube now.

  28. Torain ATV fan says:

he’s a loser. i want 2 see all the people who defended him earlier, still defend him.

  29. BroncoAussie says:

    Take away store maybe??

  30. Greatness007 says:

Naw Torain it’s to side to every story. Even though by our stands that alot of change. In the realm he is in it is not. Think how much Eddie getting paid. Well deserved I might at. All the top 2 wr on there respective team. If Cincy only took !4 thou from Chad. He still be sitting out. I don’t like the way he going about it. Just look at it when your tryna get a pay raise at your job. nice guys get ran over. Boldin got his face broken. came back in 2 weeks. Had a hell of a yr. They take him out in a important drive in the SB. Man if that is not fair I don’t know what is. I know he didn’t come back in those 2 weeks just to get paid. Now seeing that. I see why he wants his(Boldin) money. When you look how things are going around the league. Can’t blame a man for trying. Just don’t do it so public. That not good for anyone.

The#1 Hootchie Wings is also know as Hooters.

  31. Greatness007 says:

    “Two side” and ” standards”

  32. BroncoAussie says:

I get what you are saying Greatness007, but what do you think is Marshalls motivation, the dislike of the business? Or something else, sad because his BF Jay left?

  33. Dr.Chris24 says:

I also didn’t like how he reffered to his team as “they” and “the broncos”.

  34. The #1 says:

It was only reason he came on there. To let other teams know his hip is ok.

Ok Greatness I get it. lmao Hootchie Wings lol We all know he deservse a new contract. I think no one can dispute that. It his Character that is in Question. He did nothin to change that today. Other than Put gas on the flame a lil. At the same time though. All the people who gave him a chance are gone. I think Gaffney gets paid more than Marshall too.

  35. Torain ATV fan says:

he said hes not sure he would sign long term deal in denver, he wants out buddy, u cant see that, i understand, not saying he wont change his mind if the system helps him get more tds

  36. Greatness007 says:

Naw I don’t think it’s all about Jay. He was the first to call out the rally cry to believe remember. So something happened from then to now. We know a few things. Not the whole story. We know all Brandon’s faults and not the teams. I think really it about taking care of his family. What if Shanny said he was gonna take care of Marshall. Now he gone. Bowlen doesn’t fill ( my bad feel lol) the same way. It’s all about the business. A lil about the way people treated him in Denver too. Not staff but fans. That was reported we the trade demand came out.

  37. The #1 says:

Ay Torain you made me watch it again. He say his agent will take care of it. He can not speak on the situation. Not that he will not though. I think its a power play. The best deal he can get is here. The bread on his plate is buttered on the broncos side. Not the league. He said Kyle was a great QB. I think he really feels (lol) that way.

  38. BroncoAussie says:

I hope he stays and just plays, none of the other crap. He is a great football player, just needs to work on his person outside of the stadium.

  39. Dynamicdave says:

thatdude807, thanks for posting the link. I don’t have NFL Network.

I agree, Dukes is a trouble making jerk. He tries to create a Denver controversy with Brandon. He’s been bashing the Denver organization ever since Cutler. He also bashed Orton and I didn’t like that cheap shot. He is overly opinionated and grossly overpaid. NFL Network is turning into TMZ of the NFL. They need to get it together.

Brandon dodged a lot of questions. He will show up for camp and is under contract, sure, but you could read between the lines that he doesn’t want to be there and that his agent is working still, to get him out. Won’t happen. But, I think it will all be taken care of before the start of regular season. Denver wants him to have a clear head and not be stressed. They will put this thing to rest soon, I feel.

  40. Greatness007 says:

BroncoAussie I think he will. He probably tryna make a power play. Like The#1 said. Look at the this picture. What if he does not sign this yr. Broncos won’t let him become a free agent. So they will have to franchise him. Now the have to give him what the top wr make. I don’t think he’s that smart though. Maybe his agent is.

  41. The #1 says:

Wow Greatness. That never crossed my mind. This going into next yr. I thought the regular season. Never crossed my mind about next yr’s off- season. To stuck on this yr.

  42. BroncoAussie says:

Yeah if he played out his contract this year he would then get franchise next year and make the big bucks. He ain’t to smart. Maybe he really doesn’t like Denver.

  43. Dynamicdave says:

I think that Jay and those phone calls have been fueling the fire. Poisoning his mind. Also, mouths like Dukes doesn’t help. He just keeps fanning the flames. Dukes loves that dirty laundry.

  44. 831_Broncos_Fan says:

What got me mad was when Marshall was asked if he was going to be wearing #15 in a Broncos jersey, he answered im definetly going to be wearing #15.

  45. Greatness007 says:

If he doesn’t, He only has himself and his old girl to blame. After a while with all that high school stuff. Running around for the last 2yr like Chris brown and Rihanna. People looking at him funny now. He get into a new tax bracket though. He can move to a more private estate.

  46. Greatness007 says:

Oh The#1 Chris Berman gets a little frustrated. Caught on-camera in 2000 just before Monday Night Football returned from commercial: Why does everybody all of a sudden have to move? No one knows. It was funny though.

  47. babychamp-broncos^ says:

This whole brandon marshall thing is just stupid….he contradicts himself throught his interview and he knew exactly what he was doin by goin on live t.v with jamie dukes (the biggest instigator in sports)…..I hope Brian Dawkins delivers somethin real good to him during practice….Knock some sense into him or somethin…this can blow up in brandons face or be the best thing for him who knows but why go public with it making the broncos look worse….Thasts why I like Rod Smith and the way he represented the broncos n put jamie in his place….That’ll be funny if Marshall has a better season with orton than wit Cutler and begs to stay but idk only time will tell….

  48. Greatness007 says:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TLG_LtWhj4 If you still looking for it here. Im gone for the day champ. Hope everyone keep the good convo going.

  49. The #1 says:

Oh man I never seen that. that was crazy. Thanks man. I was gonna do it later. After I finished doing some research. I’ll try to on my end with the convo.

  50. Dr.Chris24 says:

I don’t care Chris Berman is awesome so he can say whatever he wants.
