Reid on ESPN First Take

October 27th, 2009 - 4:34pm by Zach Eisendrath

While many players on the Broncos spent time off during their bye week resting up or on a quick vacation, Darrell Reid spent a portion of his time away from Dove Valley in Bristol, Conn. — making his way around ESPN studios.

Reid appeared live on a variety of ESPN programming last Friday, including SportsCenter, ESPN News and the Scott Van Pelt Show.

He also appeared on ESPN First Take — sitting down with co-host Dana Jacobson to talk about Head Coach Josh McDaniels’ influence on the team’s 6-0 start and how the club has been able to jell so quickly in 2009.

For the full interview, check out the video below.

    lol This is old.

  2. louisianabroncofan says:

ya but still cool to see broncos everywhere struttin their stuff. as the season goes along and we keep domonating teams we’re gonna see alot more denver players being interviewed.
the turnaround this defense made is just unbelievable. i could’ve never guessed that we would be as good on defense as we are. if at the end of last season you showed me a defense as good as ours is now and asked me how long i thought it would take for the broncos to get to that point i would’ve said 3 years or so of great coaching and multiple stud player aquisitions to the team. to me its that much better. i just cant help but say again i hope another team doesnt come pull mike nolan away from us after this season for a head coaching job. i’m sure they will try i just hope he turns em down. he’s a better d coord than head coach anyway. the coaches we have now will win more than a couple of superbowls together if they dont all leave. hell if we’re this good now imagine how good we’ll be after a few offseasons of them aquiring all the players they want. man i cant wait.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Not very insightful either, that’s bye weeks for you, nothing to report, but yet a job to do.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

I wouldn’t be worried over Nolan head coaching anywhere, been there, done that, didn’t work so hot. And even if he leaves, I will not lose any sleep over it, because, we’ll still have the main guy, McD, and he is the one who brought Nolan in, and he would be the one bringing in his replacement. Gotta have faith in upper management, Nolan is actually a piece of the puzzle, one of the great ones, don’t get me wrong, but still a piece of the puzzle.

  5. louisianabroncofan says:

actually, baylinorcrush, not to me because if they said “not sure wich one but either mike priefer or mike nolan is retiring tomorrow” i wouldnt say ‘doesnt matter wich one they’re all just a piece of the puzzle’ i’d sure say ‘man i hope they’re talking about priefer’!! thats how i look at it anyway. but i hope your right that we dont have to worry about it.

  6. bronconolan24 says:

baylinor, what day does the contest for the game predictions start?

  7. Orange_Crusher says:

Having McD and Nolan both, is like having two head coaches on one team. It is phenomenal and hopefully it lasts a few yeas, at least.

  8. louisianabroncofan says:

absolutely orange crusher, talk about bowlen coming through for the fans. again. man i love being a bronco fan. it’s gonna keep getting better too.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

bronconolan24, it’s on now until Saturday pm, 15 entries so far…

  10. baylinorcrush says:

OC, good to see you here after the bye week, took the week off, hey? Anyhow, I don’t know if you heard of Collinsworth interviewing Nolan before the SD game and pointing exactly the same thing, about how it was like having two coaches on the same team, amd IMMEDIATELY, Nolan cut him off saying, make no mistake about it, there is only one head coach on this team, and it’s McD.

  11. louisianabroncofan says:

guess my prediction is a close game. ravens are ahead 20-13 at the half but the broncos pull ahead in the 2nd half especially in the 4th when they dominate as usual. broncos 33, ravens 27. i think more points will be scored than most people think. but a good game again. GO BRONCOS

  12. baylinorcrush says:

I guess my point is this is as good a time to see the glass half full, there will be plenty of opportunities to see the glass half empty eventually. This is the time for positive thinking, heck with what will happen in the off-season, we just got through one, barely, so let’s just enjoy the ride with what we’ve got, the season is young and there is much to enjoy right now before we need to think and worry about what will happen for next season. The time is now, the past is in the books and the future is, well, the future. Let the big wigs, Bowlen and Xanders worry about that, McD is busy with a team to run right now.

  13. tnalen66 says:

I think with all the SB coaches out there ( Shanny, Holmgren, Cowher, Dungy, Gruden) i think Nolan is safe. I think he really like Denver and Mr. Bowlen since this is his second time with us.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

louisianabroncofan, there is a guy who has us win 31-28, but I would say you two so far have the least respect for both defenses, or the most respect for both offenses. Either way, good luck with your pick.

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

McD dosen’t have to worry about the defense, because Nolan is one of the best defensive coordinators in the game, and he knows that ,that’s why he hired him.But i’m like you guys ,I hope he stays for a while. There is a lot of teams I think will be looking for new head coaches at the end of this year.Let’s just hope they look elsewhere. As far as Pat Bowlen goes he is the smartest owner in the NFL.He knows when it’s time for change and dosen’t care what it takes to do it,my hats off to him and McD,they both look like freaking geniuses!!!!!!!!!!GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!7-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT TO BE A BRONCO FAN!!!!

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

Like Baylin said”lets enjoy the ride this year and don’t worry about next year till then.

  17. Orange_Crusher says:

    Bay,

Yeah, I can see how the words “like two head coaches” can be abbrasive to the working situation. It would be better to say that we have a great defensive coordinator who also has head coaching experience….?

The thing that stinks is that we gotta know that teams like Washington are already licking their chops at the idea of Nolan and our great defense….

I hope Nolan and McDaniels stick it out for a few years and just see what they can do together. If what we’ve seen so far is any kind of indicator, it should be a fantastic run!

  18. baylinorcrush says:

OC, it seems with the bye week, you lost your spunk, I’m worried about you, LOL. Whenever you come up with one of your wild picks, I’ll be here to record it…ahahah.

  19. FTR says:

Enjoy the ride we are on for sure!! I have no doubt Nolan stays!! He is having to much fun with what he is building!
    FTR

  20. Orange_Crusher says:

Hey, I only picked the last week as a wild pick. I was right on the 3pt spread against NE.

I like to make my pick the day before or the morning of the game after we see the final injury update.

This is going to be a hard game in Baltamore.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

You’re right OC, good spread, my bad. I’ll be picking on Saturday also, make sure to pick by Saturday pm, I won’t be looking at predictions Sunday, better things to do, like getting primed for a game, yeaaaaaah….

  22. Orange_Crusher says:

Will do, good call on the pregame-prime-time, you have a way with words bro….haha I’m out though, the kid is demanding my pressence to figure out his transformers game…haha, Kids are awesome!!!

    Bronc On Bay!!

  23. louisianabroncofan says:

hey bay i guess so. i do think flacco is a top qb tho and i guess if our defense is gonna have an off week this could be it. i also dont think the ravens d is nearly what it has been in the past. but overall we are both really good teams and somethings gotta give. orton’s prob gonna have a good game too and the last seven points i think are gonna b scored by the ravens at the end of the game runnin the 2 min offense tryina catch up. so we’ll be comfortably ahead in the 4th qtr i think. i do see how alot of people have the game close. we’ll see. i wanna win the contest tho, i hope i’m right!

  24. baylinorcrush says:

louisianabroncofan, the thing is, with picking real high scores or real low scores, and you end up being correct, you look like a genius. When you pick somewhere in the middle, where a lot of people pick, and you get closest you end up looking good, but with quite a few others, so you don’t get the genius treatment. The more you go out on a limb, the higher the rewards may be, but on the other hand you could be a shoe in for the shame on you award of the week, LOL. That’s what makes this little competition so much fun. No guts, no glory. You showed guts in your pick.

  25. louisianabroncofan says:

well just imagine if thats the score and they did get a td in the last 2 min. i would get the oh-my-god=what-a-pick award or somethin close i hope. you’ll hafta make that one up for me. but yeah i dont mind going out on a limb i definately say what i’m thinkin good or bad!

  26. tjnartw says:

My pick, I think it will be kind of a low scoring game some where in the neighborhood of 20-12 Denver.

I don’t see coach Nolan leaving after this season for a head coaching job with another team. I think that Nolan will want to see this through for approximately 3 to 4 years. Oh I hope, I hope, I hope. LOL

GO BRONCOS (1 & 0 after bye week)

  27. RockyMts69 says:

To me, bye week is a short version of the off-season. I like too call it ‘Ten Days of Torture’. It should be a Halloween movie…:) But I’m glad it’s been slow. I prefer nice n’ quiet over any off feild drama.

And as far as Nolan leaving…not if I have anything to say about it! There are a enough of us in Broncos Country that we could surround the mountains, the plains, border to border and have road blocks set up on every highway leaving Denver! Let’s see if McD could figure out that defensive scheme!

  28. RockyMts69 says:

My prediction is 22-14, Denver, and DOOM gets two more sacks!

  29. rkymtnhigh says:

I also think it will be a low scoring game. 17-10 Broncos.
    Come on 7&0!!!!!!!!!!

  30. broncosfreak30 says:

    tjnartw…

    I think you meant to put 7 & 0!!

  31. Greatness007 says:

I think it’s Priefer that they are talking about. He wanted Kern to stay. McD released him anyway. there was a big blow up over it. Plus Mike before he took the job said he wanted to be a head coach again. That’s why he only signed a 2yr contract. Bowlen wanted Nolan before Josh. Like I said before. That’s one of reason why Shannahan was fire. He didn’t want Nolan on his staff. Nolan didn’t like Mike either over the Dan reeves situations. He came up with Shannahan under Reeves. He (Nolan) is the one who told Reeves. Elway and Shannahan where making up play on their own. He caught them. That led to Shannahan being fired from the Broncos in the 88 or 89. It been a while I forget. Like McD said its worked out in our favor. Cuz the 3-4 Nolan runs is different than the one McD knows. That’s why he only signed a 2yr deal. McCoy has a 4yr. Nolan wasn’t his pick. Nolan was Bowlen’s pick. If Nolan get a head coaching job. DL coach Nunnely will be his replacement. Thats who McD wanted originally.

  32. brian_schneider says:

It seems to me that Nolan likes being a Bronco. I think when he looks at what him and McD has done he has to like what he’s seeing and like what could be the future, with Phonzy, Ayers, Bruton, and others. I think just his style is exactly what the Broncos needed, aggressive, smart, physical. Like tnalen66 said with all the SB coaches thinking of coming back I think Nolan will remain a Broncos. I also think that if the Broncos continue to have a great season, I could see Bowlen matching any offer made to Nolan. Almost any, doubt he would pay Nolan more than a HC, but he might. Especially since it is McD and his staff that has gotten this Bronco team turned around. Hey, we all thought that Cutler was not going anywhere. Still I think Bowlen would really like to keep the staff intact for a while.

  33. HolleyBronco says:

Greatness007 – Where did you get your information on Bowlen wanting Nolan and McDaniels wanting Nunnely for Defensive Coordinator? I’m not saying it’s false, I just haven’t heard this before.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

Greatness007, where is this big blow up between Priefer and McD over Kern being let go you are talking about? I haven’t heard a thing about it. And who is talking about Priefer, as you think? And which Mike said he wanted to be a head coach again before he took the job? And how do you know Nolan was Bowlen’s pick? I mean I love Bronco information, but it has to be a bit clarified and sustantiated before I can put much credence into it. Hopefully, you’ll be back on later to enlighten me some, thanks.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

    substantiated

  36. broncofan96 says:

Dont know if you guys know this but Kern was picked up by the Titans.

  37. tnalen66 says:

I new he would be signed right away.

  38. brian_schneider says:

You know I was cursing Kern when he punted to Sproles, I didn’t think that he’d get waived.

  39. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

broncofan96 – they need all the help they can get. Berger scares me. I was wondering why he’s not with the Steelers anymore so I googled him. Dudes head isn’t in the game, this is a temporary fix.

  40. bronconolan24 says:

i’m going to make my prediction for sundays game now. 24-17 Denver. Why? Denvers #2 D is going against Bal #5 offense, but our #9 offense is going against a D that is ranked #19 and allowing 22 points a game opposed to our 11 points allowed.

If we can hang tight with a New England team that ranks 3rd in total offense and who’s defense is now 6th, then it should be easier to score against a Defense that is now ranked lower than SD.
in the last 3 games, Den has a 3 game win streak, and Bal has a 3 game lose streak, so momentum is leaning our way.

The 3 teams Bal did beat have a combined record of 5-15, and on average a defense that is ranked 26th. The teams they lost to have a combined record of 16-3, though, and the were all within 7 points and down to the 4th quarter.

Before anyone says it, i know that records don’t mean a thing. I’m predicting the outcome will be determined on 2 things

    1) Whichever team prepared the best in their bye week.
    2) Whoever wins the turnover differential.

    with the best of luck,
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

  41. Greatness007 says:

One Nolan was working on the NFLNetwork. When he himself said “I wanna be a head coach again.” Before Bowlen even fired Shannahan. He was rumored going to Denver. Shannahan didn’t pick him. So who do you think he was talking too?? McD was not there yet. Mike S. was not fired yet. When Mike was fired he was again rumored to be there. McD didn’t even interview yet. So if Nolan was McD personal pick as you all think. Why does the rest of the staff other than Bobby Turner, Rich Tuted, Rick Dennison, and Keith Burns. They have lifetime contracts thanks to Bowlen. The other staff with the Exception of Nolan have all 4yr contracts. Nolan only has 2yr. Nolan is the D cor., but the rest of the D staff was picked by McD. He can not pay Nolan more than Mcd just to keep him. lol All these Superbowl winning coaches are going for jobs in Chicago, Washington, Dallas, and Carolina. No one is going for Buffalo, Jacksonville, or if the Ravens collapse Baltimore. Ozzie like Nolan they respect eachother. So don’t be surprised if their D Keeps Collapsing like they have. It will be talk of going in another direction with a new HC.

  42. orangecrush44 says:

    Vote Clady for Pro Bow!!

  43. brian_schneider says:

If the Cowboys fail again, I could see Shanny going there.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

Greatness007, thanks for trying to explain your train of thought. Just one question, do you sleep at night? LOL.

  45. Greatness007 says:

Oh and for you that think he was just rumored. He (Nolan) clarified it on NFL Network That he had been in contact with the Broncos. Nothing was set in stone just talks. Shannahan was still the coach a month after he said that.

  46. Greatness007 says:

Yeah I sleep. This is just my line of work. So it is right up my alley.

  47. tnalen66 says:

I seen Berger make alot of mistakes on the field. Some of them costed his teams Ws. He screwed up a couple of game winning FG w/ the vikes and some other bone head mistakes w/ the Rams. I think Mc D got him just for our next 2 games, (knowlege). I don’t think he is a long term answer. I really hope I am wrong about him.

  48. tnalen66 says:

Make sure to vote for Kyle and all the BRONCOS. Kyle has alot of tuff competison. It would be very sweet if he would make it to the pro bowl, even though he would not play cuz HE WILL BE PLAYING IN THE SUPER BOWL!!

  49. broncofanlvnm says:

I think what’s impressive about Berger in addition to his hang times is the average punt return against him is only 10.3 yds for his career. The other thing about him is he has a reputation of being a good tackler when he needs to make a play. I don’t know if he’s being brought in for kick offs or not but he does have 96 career kick offs for touch backs also.

tnalen66, I couldn’t find any stats on Berger for field goals. Where did you get that info?

  50. brian_schneider says:

broncofanlvnm: Bet the Steelers wished they had Berger back instead of Reed, who made a horrible effort to tackle Harvin. LOL!!!!
