The Broncos’ Monday night opener against the Raiders may be a highly anticipated meeting between two long-standing rivals, but on a conference call Wednesday, Oakland Head Coach Hue Jackson and his quarterback Jason Campbell had nothing but complimentary things to say about their opposition in Denver, particularly on defense.
Jackson was asked if he’d watched the Broncos pass-rushing duo of Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller and he was quick to provide an animated response.
“Have I watched them? Are you kidding me? These guys are a highlight-reel,” Jackson said. “They are very good players — very good pass rushers. Obviously Von Miller is a rookie but he knows how to go to the quarterback and (Elvis) Dumervil has been just sensational at what he’s done over the years. It’s going to be a big task for us, but we are looking forward to it.”
The Raiders offense enjoyed a lot of success against the Broncos defense a year ago, but Campbell says he is expecting a completely different challenge from a revamped defense Monday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
“They can run, they can make plays and they added different defensive linemen to their team this year,” Campbell said. “They have their most important guys back and then you add Von Miller… You watch the Seattle film and it was hard for Seattle to even get a first down on them.
“They are playing with so much excitement and one thing I’ll say about their defense — they run to the ball very well. You’ll see one guy make a tackle and then there are six or seven blue shirts in there around the ball… It’s a tough challenge because you look at them on defense and they are totally different.”
As for the Dumervil-Miller duo specifically, Campbell believes the pair of pass-rushers set to line up against him should already be considered elite.
“They are definitely one of the top five combinations in the National Football League,” he said.

Payback is coming Faders. We’re angry….
The Broncos should raffle off the opening day coin they posted on twitter during the game in that place that they have that silent auction.
I guess that wouldn’t be raffling it….it would be auctioning it.
Imagine how Champ must be licking his chops, with Von and Doom in front of him, hurrying the QB … if those guys stay healthy, it could be a good, surprising season …
Campbell soup goes with a Von-Doom sandwich,haha!
Love the soup analogy, BFE92!
Yeah It’s time to blow away the chokeland failures by 60 points this Monday night.
I think they’ll be running the ball inside. Outside might not work so well for them. I’m excited to see our team put it together.
i just really hope that it not going to be like last year…we gave up way to many yards and that was in both games. i cant believe we couldnt even beat the worst team in our division a year ago. now with everything new coming in we hope for change and we want it now, but dude its still new. i mean much love for what the broncos have done over the past 5 weeks. they played real hard and work there butts off and i am proud but they still have issues all over the place with injury and depth. if Run DMC goes off again against the broncos it might start looking like that all year with every back. i remember week 2 against the titans and CJ2K didnt even get 50 yards. bring that back…..and this new scheme will be very hard to beat. Orange Rush is coming to mile high
Dude we were the worst team in our Division last year,I think the Faders were 6-0!
I hate that they got to see film on our new regime, now they know a lil of what to prepare for but regardless they wont be able to stop that kind of speed off the edges. Here comes Goku and Vageta!
PUMP BLUE, BLEED ORANGE!
ouch!! The reality check even hurt me. We are do a season this might be it.
LMBO@BFE…4:12post haha!
this team cant seem to stay healthy. pooey
otherwise we would be able to beat any team in the league
For injuries, no one can surpass the Giants this year … they need almost an entire new defense … also – I heard today that the Chargers have kept 11 linebackers and only 6 defensive linemen on their roster … their top 5 LB have nagging injury issues … but their initial schedule is “patsy” – after all, they bet “US” early …
I don’t think people really understand the weight of losing elvis dumervil … he was the only reason to stay in the 3-4 … he was our 3-4 Defense in McDaniels first year. Last year, without him, there was no defense, the power of a sack leaders impact on a game is more than you can imagine…and not only did we not have him over all … we were playing the 3-4 with scrubs.
If you do the math, 3-4 without doom … and D without doom … u can see why we sucked immensely. We had the lowest sacks.
Havinging him back, him alone changes this defense … vaults it up from 32 to about 15 … add the other additions such as Miller, Moore, Mays stepping up, DJ in hi natural position, a revamped Dline, Ayers back to the DL and u will see a huge difference.
I believe the D will carry the team this year. And the word he used “swarm” is the best description of what the bronco D have been doing this year so far … You see 1 guy, there, 1 sec later, 5 Broncos … aggressive and fast and I am looking forward to it … I am considering picking them up in my fantasy … I don’t wanna drop one of my bench players but I just might have to. I believe that much.
THEM OF 2011? … RESTORING BRONCO PRIDE!!!
Later Days, TRB out….
Well – they may “bet” us (although I doubt it) – but for my comments above the should “get” us …
Hey TRB im with you! Im gonna believe as well that we will a top 10 defense this year!
PUMP BLUE, BLEED ORANGE!
Just getting Doom back was going to make a big impact. I think we are more suited for the 4-3 so I am really glad we moved back. Sucks we suffered so many injuries at the DT position but hopefully some of the other guys can step up. I honestly just want us to play good solid football.
The beat down the Broncos defense will give to the Raiders will be biblical at the least. Having some defensive players back at their natural positions is key, and obviously the return of Dumervil just revamps the defense. Hope they crush the Raiders on MNF. This is gonna be fun.
