Raiders Prepare For Broncos Without Head Coach

December 4th, 2012 - 6:45pm by Sam Davis

It’s already an unusual set of circumstances for the Raiders and the Broncos as they are working with a short week due to the game being slated for Thursday Night Football.

For Oakland, preparing for the Week 14 game is a challenge for another reason. On Monday night, Raiders Head Coach Dennis Allen lost his father. Allen hasn’t been with the team yet this week, but plans to return to the Raiders facilities on Wednesday.

Defensive Coordinator Jason Tarver spoke with Denver media on Monday.

“He’s even a better person than a coach,” Tarver said of Allen. “He’s such a great man that all of us feel for him. We didn’t get to see all of that great relationship between him and his dad, but it’s a great relationship. Our hearts definitely go out to the whole Allen family.”

Players and coaches on the Broncos side have sent their thoughts and prayers as well.

While Allen hasn’t been present on the practice field to help the team prepare for Thursday night, Tarver and Offensive Coordinator Greg Knapp are using a plan that was created with Allen’s help.

“Most of the schedule and practice and everything – the timing of everything that we’re doing had already been set by Coach Allen,” Tarver said. “Dennis and our staff had researched the Thursday night week in the offseason and set kind of how we wanted to do this. Dennis set it ahead of time, so we’re really using the schedule that Coach Allen put together.”

It’s a difficult situation for coaches and players on the Raiders, but cornerback Michael Huff hopes the team will be motivated to earn a victory for its coach.

“We know we have to go ahead and mourn but still go out there and play well,” Huff said. “I say, get this victory for him.”

And it takes gang tackles to tackle Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil. I know the boys were wiped out a the end of that game, but that’s what football is supposed to be. Martin sure is good this year, but so is Alfred Morris. I’m way more worried about him than I am of Martin.

if osweiler turns out good i will be first in line for my serving of crow. but i wont be holding my bresth

  3. tlcat06 says:

Well Alex, I don’t see how he won’t be good so if he’s bad I’ll recognize it. I’m just not going to doubt him before he’s even given a chance (which might come Thursday if we are up by a ton).

  4. alex4serg says:

im not saying anything about morris cause only shanny knew. no one was talking about morris.

lots of people were clamoring for martin at the time

  5. RH709 says:

Its in the past and we have a darn good team. Im happy. We all knew Martin would be good. So what. This team is 9-3 without Martin. How about we look at this years RBs. Let the past be.

  6. alex4serg says:

tlc – we are two sides of the same coin. time will tell

  7. tlcat06 says:

Sorry, Alex after Knowshon I wasn’t ready to take a RB in the first round and I’m pleased that we didn’t. I was mad we took Hillman when we did, but we had to. I knew their strategy then.

  8. Bronconasty says:

i think we need to use Andre Caldwell more..

  9. tlcat06 says:

I’m just saying everyone is raving about how good Martin is but look at Alfred Morris. He just broke the rookie running record for Washington and there are four games left. Shanahan knows more than some people yes, but he is not the only one who thought he’d be good. Wasn’t TD drafted in the 6th round just like Morris (thanks AB)? There is no point hating Osweiler because of the Martin trade and thats the feeling i get from you… because we got Wolfe with the Martin trade. And there will be a solid back in next years draft that we can pick up to fit McGahee’s shoes.

  10. Bronconasty says:

This year we need Tavon Austin, David Amerson, etc

  11. tlcat06 says:

Nasty, I prefer Caldwell to Willis.

  12. Bronconasty says:

i think its stupid that we dont use Caldwell Cat… idk why we dont

  13. tlcat06 says:

Me either. I don’t know what Decker did to Manning either because he continues to target him less and less.

  14. Bronconasty says:

Decker be dropping balls.. i think hes just on his period thats all

  15. alex4serg says:

yes td – imo the greatest rb ever – was a 6th round shanny pick. thats another reason i am not looking at morris. shanny has an uncanny ability to pick great rbs. portis – um names escape me but shanny is a 1k rb factory.

  16. tlcat06 says:

I’m just trying to point out that you don’t have to go after the “Martin’s” when you can get a Morris later. We are fine for this season and can fix that hole in the spring.

  17. alex4serg says:

decker has the amazing ability to make the circus catch but drop the one that hits him in the numbers. its weird

  18. RH709 says:

So rewatch the game. Martin got beat ip by our D. They tackled him for minimal gains quite a bit and it would usually be two guys tackling. What stood out is how often TB used a FB when running. If Martin was in Denver he wouldnt get a FB to follow. Doesnt mean he couldnt do it but it is a different scheme for sure.

  19. Bronconasty says:

ok enough of this Muscle Hamster! lets talk about our team! how do yall think Rahim Moore is doing?

  20. tlcat06 says:

Yah, he has been dropping them but he did make that critical third down conversion one on Sunday, lets see if he gets the ball on Thurs.

I’ve got to go to bed. Was up from three on last night due to a bad dream where Luck beat Manning in the playoffs. LOL night guys

  21. alex4serg says:

tlc – i agree. i just didnt think we got good value for the trades and i hated the os pick. but still we have a legitimate sb contender so im on cloud 9

  22. RH709 says:

Moore had a rough game with TB but other than that he has been incredible. Good angles to the ball, solid tackler, good in coverage. Kid has changed so much from last year.

  23. alex4serg says:

moore has been great. the opposite of a sophmore slump

  24. Bronconasty says:

i thought Rahin Moore would be like a Ed Reed.. i wish he and Quintin Carter was back there together

PUM PUM PUM Scoring Results WK 13 (Game 12)

Congratulations Denver on Two AFC West Titles in a Row!

What a great effort by our beloved Broncos (In the Second Half anyway)!!! This team looks really good, and as many of you have pointed out, if we can find a way to start faster it would make us all feel better but we like the wins!!! Seven in Row Baby!!!

    Final 31-23 (54) Broncos

We have a 3-way tie this week for first place!!! The Dane, DaddyBronc and ScalptheCheifs all coming in 1 point off the combined score total for the game at 55. The Dane was nice enough to call DB and share his prediction of 31-24, and Scalp had it at 34-21! You all receive 10 contest points and a Gold Star! Plus Cyber Cookies for Dane and Daddy!

There is also a 3-way tie for second place all earning 7 points! Tnalen66 27-24, Bronconasty and first time contest entrant Stibroncos 31-20 were all 3 points of the Game Total! Very Nicely Done! Nasty and Sti will be sharing Cyber Cookies with TD and DB!

Third Place this week and maintaining his late charge is Blog Favorite OSS! 27-23 is good enough for 5 contest points and some Cyber Cookies, although not the same flavor as the rest… Macadamia maybe?!?

Fourth Place and earning 3 contest points were sndvl 30-16 and Caramello 29-17! They were both 8 points off the game total respectively! Sweet!!

And keeping with this week’s theme we have a 3-way tie for 5th place! Royalbroncofan1 24-20, Wolfedom 27-17 and Millertime2 31-13 were all 10 points off the game total and that will earn them 1 point for the week!

For the 3rd week in a row we have no WALL OF SHAME! And if the Broncos keep it up, we may not see it again!

    B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!!!

PS… Short week so don’t forget to get your predictions in, here and on the form with Gray!!!

  26. Bronco_Turtle says:

Bronconasty, I’m a Q. Carter fan as well! The guy had two picks last year in the playoffs and I was disappointed when he went down this season! I think he will have a much bigger role next season for us!

  29. baylinorcrush says:

Wow, last night was like a tennis match in here, my neck is sore watching that back and forth, haha.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Only difference is everybody scored some points, but no winner.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

Man, the Chiefs and the Raiders are all hitting some kind of all time low in their franchise. Owner’s death, coaches dad’s death, players death, killer player, you name it, unbelievable set of circumstances for both team.

And as a Bronco fan I really feel sorry for them as we experienced it first hand with many deaths of our own this last decade. Hang in there, it gets better eventually.

  32. strandoftds82 says:

No blog score prediction as of yet. Some of us are going to have to go for the silver and bronze since The Dane just pulling ahead. LOL

  33. RH709 says:

Bay, I feel like that is where we were after D. Williams and then McKinnley. We had some dark times for a while.

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

Lol I was looking at some stats about this game.

Denver offense avgs 30 PPG Raiders D allows 31 ppg

Raiders offense 20 ppg Denver D allows 20 ppg.

I just found it a little funny that our avg is what they on avg allow and the other way around. Lol

  35. alex4serg says:

r.i.p. darrent williams. r.i.p. kenny mckinnly

  36. Sage1 says:

I don’t think Decker did something to PM, just not catching the ball or dropping the ball that was thrown at him. Decker need better job in freeing himself from a coverage and to hold on the ball. he’ll get his turn .

  42. My broncos is right down good the best

  43. RH709 says:

This time tomorrow, I’ll be driving to the game :)

  44. baylinorcrush says:

    Lucky dog!

Since you won’t wear your colors I hope you at least wear like some Broncos underwear….

  45. baylinorcrush says:

I have to say I have never gone on the road watching a Bronco game not wearing my colors. Never went to a raider game away though, but still I don’t see how I could refrain, and with my age now they would call me sir anyway, LOL, not an issue for me. Last century things got pretty rough for me in the Miami stadium even so I was with my wife, those cuban americans down there have no problems insulting you too.

  46. baylinorcrush says:

And night games are always worse, more time spent drinking tailgating in the parking lot… Early games on the road are best.
The one in Miami was a Monday night game, the one in 98 when we had a shot at going unbeaten and we lost two in a row after going 13-0, at Giants and at Miami, I know how to pick them, lol.

  47. baylinorcrush says:

I met LB Glenn Cadrez in South Miami Beach at All Stars that week, took a picture with him and he signed my Bronco golf shirt. He looks a little bigger than me on that shot but not too much, made me feel better, they do look bigger in pads.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

Memories…that’s what keeps you going come a certain age, first you make memories, then you get to enjoy them…

  49. RH709 says:

The Raiders fans are thugs. If it was insults and heckling, I wouldn’t care a bit. These thugs will spill bear, push and want to fight. Stabbings have happen all too often. I have 3 little ones (who are staying with Grandma), I am not even going to risk getting stabbed. Not worth it.

It sucks not being able to show your pride. I need to go to a home game in Denver so I can be with my “people”.
I will wear some broncos socks and an undershirt.
