Quotable: Denver vs. Detroit

October 30th, 2011 - 8:34pm by Stuart Zaas

Here’s what was said following Detroit’s 45-10 victory over Denver:

Head Coach John Fox: “We’ve got a ways to go. We’ve been good at times. Today wasn’t good enough. That is a good football team coming off two losses. Two or three years ago, they were 0-16, so it’s doable. I think they’ve improved, and they’ve got some good players to help them do that.”

Quarterback Tim Tebow: “I’m just going to get up early and go to work and try to get better tomorrow and consistently improve and be the best person [and] quarterback for this organization and continue to improve.”

Cornerback Champ Bailey: “Honestly, I can’t pinpoint one thing, but we’ve got to look at film. I think as a defense, we’ve just got to get off the field a lot sooner. Of course, we were out there a lot, but at the same time, it doesn’t matter. We’ve got to get off the field.”

Linebacker Joe Mays: “It is difficult losing. I think the guys are tired of losing. We are just trying to do whatever is necessary to come out there and be successful and get a win. As a team, we need to get better.”

Defensive Lineman Robert Ayers: “We came out here—I never discredit, no matter what the scoreboard says, I will never put down the effort that my team puts out. We are going to fight regardless. The scoreboard says 45-10, but I give credit to anyone that steps on this field and lays it on the line, regardless of the scoreboard.”

We might just get shut out in Oakland.

  2. Code Orange says:

Tebow should not lose his Job. No O line, and bad play calling he was only doing what he could!

  3. baylinorcrush says:

We needed to find out about Tebow since we knew Orton wasn’t the answer and we definitely also know Quinn isn’t either, so we are doing the right thing, we are finding out and it isn’t pretty, Tebow will play elsewhere next year and Elway will know exactly what direction to go which is with none of the QB currently on board! This in the end will be another wasted year, it makes you mad for a while then I get numb and I really don’t even care anymore, just going through the motions as a fan, just like the players, a little sadness too but we have so many problems starting with ownership all the way on down to the players that no way no how do I see a light at the end of the tunnel yet, total darkness surrounds me, Bronco shame, oh well.

To tell you how bad it really is, at the sports bar me and my buddy always go wegot heckled most of the game by a Cinci fan!!!! and his Cowboy fan buddy. Cinci, a team that hasn’t done anything for about a quarter century and he was making jokes about the Broncos wearing his stupid Ochocinco jersey, but we got on him hard enough that he finally left late in the third, but how embarrassing, standing up in public in full Bronco garb and having to take a beating like this. This team owes me, and they owe me big time!

I’ll be wearing my blue and orange paperbag of shame……..with number 15 on it! lol

Well, what was said was going to happen is happening or happened. What surprises me is that it only took two games for it to happen. I am not going to say much of anything about the game, it seems that there are al lot of the armchair qb’s and coaches that have done that already. I do know that if Luck would have been behind that offensive line, he would have been murdered just like Tebow was. If Orton or Quinn would have been back there, the same result would have taken place. Tebow stunk, the offense stunk, the defense stunk, and the special teams stunk. Did I miss anything? Oh yes, the play calling stunk. That just about covers it. Just for the record, Franklin can’t block his grandmother. There were numerous passes where TT did not have but less than 2 seconds to do anything with the ball. I am not sure, but I don’t think many of you could do anything with it in less than 2 seconds from the time it is snapped to you. The entire game was one of the worst displays of football I think I have watched.

Now, I have a social message for LAX. I don’t know you, and at this point I don’t care to know you. I do know you are just about as rude and obnoxious as one individual can get. I don’t know about anyone else but some of these comments you have made on this blog offend the hell out of me. I am not on here very much. I do wish that I could be on here more, but I am physically unable to do so. LAX, I have to stay in a hospital bed all the time. At least I am supposed to, but just can not bring myself to be in it for 24/7. I am not in this bed because I want to be. I have to stay in it for medical reasons. I also have to stay hooked up to o2 so I can breathe. Before you start throwing your insulting remarks out, take a second and think about what you are saying, or going to say. There just might be someone pout there that has serious conditions you will offend.

And the biggest joke of it all Sunday was: “We’re gonna wear the orange jerseys! The house will be rocking and shaking! The home field advantage will be huge! And Detroit is way overrated anyway so we should definitely pull out a win!” When you look back at all that, that is the real joke part of it all, jusr read last week blogs, it will crack you up.

  7. timmah says:

No way oakland just all of a sudden becomes better than the lions. Especially with carson palmer. Their front line isn’t anywhere near the lions therefore I believe the playcalling will get better and his throwing will be a little better and the run well the run game is kinda wierd at the moment if mcgahee plays we will have a great day if mcgahee doesn’t play then it will be interesting still the raiders are sucking it up pretty bad. So I pick
    Broncos: 24
    Raiders: 17

  8. killerkod says:

I agree bay……….this organization needs to clean house…..

While the tebonites are crapping all over the O line……..I don’t think they’re a horrible unit or anything. Sure, there’s lots of room for improvement, but it takes a while for an O line to gel………and I think they’ll get there with a few more pieces.

Our D needs some major revamping. We have some great pieces, but as a whole, they are just too darn soft. They do not strike fear into anyone…….either running or passing. The third down D is autrocious.

And the most crucial piece……..of course, is the QB. This is something we need badly……..cause I agree with you bay………..neither of the current QB’s will be on the roster next season.

Heck………..bring up Weber and throw him out there and see what we’ve got in him. What do we have to lose? The season is already lost.

  9. samurai713 says:

    Brady!Brady!Brady!…jk

  10. samurai713 says:

    wait…Weber!Weber!Weber!

Wishing you whatever the best is for you weatherman, and yes some bloggers on here are disgusting and have no clue as to how to intercat and my guess is alcohol may have a lot to do with that, but yeah no civility whatsoever, just hate, very sad, and not particularly last night, it has always happened and always will, from time to time, which is one of the reason I enjoy blogging best in the mornings, while the drunken fools are still sleeping it off. But we do have some funny heavy drinkers like BFE by example, and he won’t get personal with anyone unless you trigger it, others look to cause trouble just as a way of life. Insecure little men not worthy to lose sleep over. And not finger pointing at Lax or anyone in paricular, I already personally have set up my parameters with LAX and he has been respectful of it so no biggie, he has backed off of me and it’s up to others to fight their own battles. The blogosphere can be a war, LOL, funny but sadly true statement.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

    interact, haha.

  13. orangemnm says:

Obviously, Tebow has a long way to go. After reading everyone’s comments, I think that yes, Tebow could turn out to be the epic Jamarcus Russel type bust.

I also know that some of the same things that are being said about Tebow right now, (no accuracy, mobility and intangibles only, 1 reciever reads then run) were also said about Michael Vick.

I know I would love to see Michael Vick on the roster right now though.

  14. marshisboss says:

All the best to you weatherman hope you get stronger

  15. seweatherman1 says:

I appreciate the comments bay. You are one that I highly respect on here and do listen to your comments about the team, or teams. As you know I am learning all of this. I just know that if it wasn’t for me getting this computer given to me a little while back I wouldn’t be on here at all. Besides that having been homebound for the past five years takes its toll on the sanity portion of life. It is really hard going from provider to what I am in overnight and in a fight to keep ones legs and all. Those comments just got to me a bit. I also respect BFE as well as TRB and others. You guys have been a huge help to me. lot more than you can imagine.

  16. seweatherman1 says:

    Thanks marshisboss.

  17. olderthandirt says:

C’mon eveybody knows this was orton’s fault

  18. orangemnm says:

    new blog

  19. seweatherman1 says:

All I know in talking about Tebow, is I keep asking myself one question. Did Elway go through this kind of ridicule and people wanting to get rid of him his first year after he stunk it up in one of his many losses? How did people back then react to him losing? His first year was a bust if memory serves me correct.

  20. sndvl says:

And you made fun of me with the ‘war’ comment, baylin.

Oakland has the tape. They now know how to plan for Tebow. Stack the box, force Tebow to be a QB. Hopefully every member of the team gets some extra practice in.

As for the playcalling, I was disappointed not seeing Larsen get involved, or a WR end around early on. I understand what Fox and McCoy WANT to do, but the defense basically dictated what we were going to do! Hopefully an adjustment to this is made. Or we will get sucked into the black hole. FTR the sequel…

    Happy Halloween, GO BRONCOS!!

  21. BroncosLAX says:

Sorry that when its told how it is some fans cant handle it and they call it rude… Anyone who has read my posts the last few weeks knows i’ve supported Tebow and I like him but have remained skeptical… and yesterdays performance proved the skepticism. Those who cannot see reason are those who took yesterday and said they saw IMPROVEMENT that is a joke! I could give 2 sh*ts if you like me or not just because I say real things that some of you wont accept. Any real Bronco fan noticed how terrible he has been for 120 minutes and how he was good for 5 against the worst defensive calls anyone has seen. If you don’t like what I have to say dont reply plain and simple if you do I’m just gonna make you feel dumb!

  22. BroncosLAX says:

As a Broncos fan I was disgusted yesterday. I have been a fan for 19 years have seen good and bad days of this club and when I am truely sorry to offend anyone but I am passionate about the team and am more open minded than most fans but am also unbiased. Fact of the matter is that it will take at least 2 years to make Tebow a serviceable back up in this league. I DO NOT want that to be the case but it is! Wish he could succeed here but he wont. Writing is on the wall and all Tebow is doing as adding to the narative instead of writing his own that proves the naysayers wrong. I am still going to hope for Tebow to succeed, but I do not believe he will. Love me or hate me I’m gonna tell you what I think and I learned from bay in that I’ll stick to my guns and not back down because you think I’m wrong.

  23. FLBroncoGator says:

Greatness, you’re too smart to waste your time arguing with LAX. The guy’s just a Tebow hater and likes to regurgitate everything he hears the talking heads on t.v. say. Even Tebow said, that he was just doing what they’re teaching him. The problem is that he was a winner begin with. If something isn’t broke, don’t fix it. Our offense is what’s broke. It was broke with Orton and it’s still broke. It will be broke with Luck too because the front office is too stupid to see that Fox is the problem and will draft another QB and still not have a TEAM or a COACH. Any good coach adapts to the players he has instead of making excuses about, “well, we’d win if we just had different players.” Fox said in his own interview that he needs to coach better. Last week, it was “Tebow is leading receivers too much instead of throwing the ball where they’re at.” Now it’s “he under threw his receivers.” Part of the problem is that he played for 4 years with receivers that had SPEED and could catch the ball. Ours quit of their routes and give up as soon as they’re beat; which is almost every play. They can’t get open and when the ball is 3 feet in front of them or over their head, they just quit running, don’t even stick their hands out, or reach up, touch the ball, and let it slip right through their hands. As for the fumble run back for a touchdown, had the line actually blocked, it wouldn’t have happened but once the fumble DID happen, SOMEBODY in the backfield, in an Orange jersey, should have the where with all to jump on the freaking football or at least make the tackle! TOTAL top down failure that starts with the hiring of John Fox.

  24. BroncosLAX says:

Gator I’m suprised you believe the crap you say

  25. FLBroncoGator says:

Why wouldn’t I? It’s the truth. Funny how every single announcer on t.v. yesterday was even saying how much better Tebow’s mechanics looked and how he was planting his feet better and all. Again, he’s trying to play in a manner that isn’t natural to him overnight instead of his coaches adapting their offense, play calling, and game plan to his strengths and letting him take the time he needs to develop. At this point, I HOPE they trade Tebow to Miami and even as a Floridian, I can’t stand anything about Miami; even as a city in general. Just know that when/if they do, and Fox is still at Denver, the Broncos better be prepared to do a lot of losing to Miami. Tim Tebow is going to win a Superbowl SOMEWHERE before John Fox EVER will. Fox has already been failing to get it done for 22 years.

  26. BroncosLAX says:

FYI you can not use a college gameplan in the NFL it will never work bud

  27. bronconasty says:

Since Josh McDaniels is gone.. we should bring back all the broncos who got traded.. Brandon Marshall needs us, Jay Cutler needs us.. Payton Hillis isnt going to get resigned and Tony Scheffler just didnt like the head coach.. we should just bring all of them back because they put up points for us.. im blaming Josh McDaniels for our past 3 yrs and maybe a 4th.. he depleaded us

  28. Greatness007 says:

FLGator that’s my point. Alex Smith looks like a probowler now in the offense Luck is running. He didn’t look like that before. If we draft Luck we won’t be running this offense. We will be running what stanford ran and mix in our run plays. That’s what Carolina did for Cam. Everyone talking about the Young talent at QB doing well. They got veteran QB in their ear helping out. Twice now it took CHAMP BAILEY to go over to Orton to get him to Help TIM. If it takes another player to convince you of helping another player. You don’t need the C on your jersey. McNabb helps Ponder to make since of what he is seeing. Derek Anderson is helping Cam make since of what he is seeing. Bruce Gradkowski is helping Dalton make since of what he is seeing.
All Kyle is doing is going to anyone player that can hear him tryna get his job back. They need to move Clady to the blindside. then put Franklin at LT. Before people start saying those QB’s suck and can’t play themselves. Remember you still watch and respect what Trent Dilfer says and he sucked so bad. After winning the superbowl , he was cut. This the same guy who rewritting the QB rating. The bust of all busts. imo

  29. Greatness007 says:

lol the 49ers are running the STANFORD O that has you in love with LUCK. They 6-1 it works.

  30. Greatness007 says:

they are* my and my blogmanship. I think I just invented a new word. lmao

  31. Greatness007 says:

    me* and my blogmanship

  32. buck484 says:

Some bright spots on our team, but many more dark ones. If Tebow stays I don’t think it can be as qb. He is terrible and there is just no other way to put it. I think he is a great person and wants to do well but he is not a pro qb.

  33. ariannab208 says:

wow!!!!!!!!!did somebody just compare tebow to jamarcus russell…bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha so lame…jamarcus was the 1st pick in the nfl draft!!!!!! tebow 24th pick wake up

  34. FLBroncoGator says:

I wondered from the beginning if they weren’t just trying to set TT up for disaster when they put Franklin in charge of his blind side. It would be really easy for the front office to get rid of him if he gets injured.

  35. Greatness007 says:

ariannab208 if your talking about my bust of all bust comment. I was talking about Dilfer. To be real everyone really knew Russell had faults but only Mel Kiper and Al Davis thought he should be #1. Remember at the time the Raiders just wanted to throw long bombs and play d. Dirty D at that. that was the excuse for drafting him. It was a poor one. Least Al got some of his money back.

  36. old school crush says:

orton, tebow, quinn ???? whatever the broncos do i pray they figure it out this season because im tired of coming up with reasons to watch them. i will always be a bronco fan through thick and thin but i gotta tell you thin has turned into transparent. we have been “rebuilding” since 1999 and it seems we get through half the foundation then scrap it all to start all over again. the backlash and stink of Josh Mc Daniel is still reeking havoc on my olfactory senses.

  37. oldguydiggin says:

As an older fan who remembers the Elway days I can say that it was not always prettybut that work in progress turned into a hall of famer. Tebow reminds meof someone in the past who made some of his most memorable plays out of the pocket. It would be nice to see tebow get a chance without the defense beating him to the snap. Rogers is one of the best playing right now and he certainly does not represent a quarterback with his feet set firmly. true he is acurate. a good craftsman is able to use the tools he is given.. comeon coach turn him loose and use his strengths.

  38. mikew007 says:

FLBroncoGator : Just so I’m clear. You are suggesting that The Broncos are hoping Tebow gets injured and they put Franklin at Left Tackle for that purpose?

  39. mikew007 says:

I’ve been on this blog for years and I have read a lot of crazy stuff but this Tebow thing is really bringing out “the best” in people!

  40. alexanserg says:

I missed out on placing by a mere two points, 27 total points off. Two weeks in a row of being so close yet oh so far.

  41. whackmac says:

I no longer have any respect for John Gruden. In fact he is an a…..e. He is ijust another jumper on the cheapest of bandwagons.

In my opinon, the “gangbangers” who jump all over Tebow (who hasn’t even had a full chance to compete) should look at the childish, tantrum throwing, immature Phillip Rivers. He is incredibly immature and the so called “analysts” spin it as “passion for the game, etc.” Rivers could never have survived the tough situation that Tebow inherited.

How could anyone miss the stupid antics of that crybaby Rivers? If he had an ounce of Tebow Dignity he wold have won the playoffs with his competent supporting cast and priviliged opportunity years ago. Gruden way overplays Rivers and downgrades Tebow.

Tebow may be a rookie and a man with no winning record (yet) but by Golly, he has dignity, pride, and poise in the worst of conditions. Give me Tebow over Rivers any day, anytime, anywhere.

  42. whackmac says:

Oh my! Gruden’s hero, Rivers just got beat my K.C. I guess maybe I was right. I saw it coming.

  43. pokoya says:

The way I see it, the stars are beginning to align against Green Bay. One could suggest that the Bronco’s team was “saving” themselves against the Division rival game next week against Oakland, (with a following Division game against the Chiefs). But what I saw was a Detroit Lion team with a bit of terror in their faces about playing in high altitiude, needing to be shown by the Bronco team, “don’t be silly, you are a great team — you play Green Bay twice in the remaining season.” And a Bronco team taking the Detroit Lions by the hand, and showing them how to beat the Broncos. “Nothing to it.”
