Qualifying Offers Extended

March 2nd, 2011 - 3:50pm by Gray Caldwell

Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced on Twitter that the team has extended qualifying offers today to the following restricted free agents: Ryan Harris, Matt Prater, Marcus Thomas, Kevin Vickerson and Wesley Woodyard.

No specifics have been revealed.

The announcement means the team retains the right to match any offer extended to the restricted free agents by another club. Teams may not begin negotiating with the restricted free agents until the start of the new league year, the date of which will depend on the signing of a new collective bargaining agreement.

Forgive me if i’m mistaken but I believe our own owner was there as well. I think he’s the co-chair on behalf of the owners, I may be wrong but yeah I think he was there.

  2. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

My wrong yeah he was absent. He is the labor committee co-chairman though. I thought I heard a report he was there but was mistaken.

  3. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

lol idk im getting conflicting reports one says he was there one says absent.

    BAY,

You gotta give Dawkins another year! Those poor guys in the back field (DB) had the hell beat out of them this past season because the front 7 did not get any pressure on the QB in 2010.

Dawkins had his BEST year statistically in 2009 of his entire career and when Dummerville set the sack record for 2009 everyone player better, stronger, faster. I refuse to give up on Dawkins!!!

Player like Brian Dawkins come along once per decade and you have to let them play until they are finished. And ride them into the GROUND! You can’t coach HEART AND SOUL like that man has, and on top of everything else HE’s A GREAT PERSON!!!

Now I can understand your dis-satisfaction over his 2010 campaign, but give the man another year and I guarentee he won’t let you or any BRONCO FAN down. He is one of those RARE STUDS that Denver needs far more of on Defense!!!

That’s my take on Mr. Dawkins.

My Question for everyone is where on earth are we going to find a GOOD TIGHT END??? There are little to none via the draft this year and there are none via Free Agency!!! And we haven’t had a really GREAT ONE SINCE SHARPE!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!! :-)

In addition to Richardson and Bowlen, other CEC members/owners present were Dallas’ Jerry Jones, New England’s Robert Kraft, Giants co-owner John Mara, Kansas City’s Clark Hunt, Pittsburgh’s Art Rooney, San Diego’s Dean Spanos, and Cincinnati’s Mike Brown. Green Bay team president/CEO Mark Murphy, also a CEC member, was in attendance as well.

    Royalbroncofan1, meat and patatos.

  7. strandoftds says:

We`ve gotta get a catching TE in the draft. Rdolph or Stocker is fine with me. With drafting Kyle Rudolph we will have to use one of our 2nd rounders, and thats if he is even there.

  8. royalbroncofan1 says:

    :-)

  9. true2broncos says:

I think this year – you might get lucky with even a late round TE. I can’t see any that I woul even use a 4th round pick on.

But then again you might stike GOLD from a small school like Savanah State (Sharpe ref.). That is probaly one of the hardest poition to draft in the entire NFL. I remember recent “CAN’T MISS” guys like Kellen Win-slow Jr, and I was really excited about Vernon Davis too. But they certain did not help their teams right away and you could say they were busts via their talent to stats ratio!!! They are both decent players, but “CAN”T MISS” I think not!

Anyway, I think their are some decent small school and Divison Two schools to at least look at in the late rounds! But I would not spend much time or money on any Tight End this year.

I can say I would not might seeing what Quinn can do as the starter. He certainly made a good mark on Special Teams – perhaps this is his year? That is if we get any FOOTBALL AT ALL!!!

“MO MONEY MO PROBLEM!!!” Seems to be TRUE!!! And the NFL is too GREAT to be ruined by a bunch of DAMN LAWYERS!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  10. MikeyB1203 says:

I agree with t2b about Dawkins. I would rather see Hill go that Dawk imo Hill does not contribute at all except to other teams. Just because Dawk got hurt this year does not mean its the end for him he might have an extended offseason to heal.

  11. Yovi21 says:

so, call me stupid but I haven’t been paying much attention. I understand the CBA expires tonight, but why can’t they keep discussing the new one? sorry, I have been trying to stay away from the subject.

  12. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

That ESPN 2 report by Adam Schefter on the negotiations was a bit more optimistic saying that they’ve been in there for 4 hours already talking it out. The longer they stay in there the better the outcome on at least an extension pointing out that a CBA will not get done, but hopefully stopping the clock on this thing is what there talking about.

  13. royalbroncofan1 says:

This information from WalterFootball.com mock draft.

They made a change to now show Broncos taking Marcell Dareus.
    Previous pick: Da’Quan Bowers.

“The Broncos finished dead last in the NFL with just 23 sacks. That figure will rise next year with Elvis Dumervil back in the lineup, but Denver still needs another pass-rusher up front”.

“As I’ve written recently, new head coach John Fox has a thing for athletic defensive ends. In his first year with the Panthers, he selected Julius Peppers at No. 2 overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. A couple of seasons ago, he traded a future first-round pick to draft Everette Brown. With Denver presumably moving back to the 4-3, Fox will really consider Da’Quan Bowers with this pick, as Bowers will remind him of Peppers from a pure athletic standpoint”.

“However, Fox recently spoke highly of his defensive ends. He called Dumervil an “every-down player” and said he was excited to have him back. As for Robert Ayers, Fox said he’s the starter at the moment. Fox worked out Ayers as a left end just prior to the 2009 NFL Draft, so unlike Josh McDaniels, Fox seemingly recognizes that Ayers is a good fit for the 4-3″.

“In the end though, Fox will take the best player available. That could change after Clemson’s Pro Day (i.e. Bowers’ medical), but Marcell Dareus is the best player who makes sense for the Broncos. Dareus, who weighed in at 6-3, 319 pounds at the Combine, had a faster 10-yard split in the 40 than 291-pound Nick Fairley. Fox recently indicated that he wants to upgrade the defensive tackle position, so this is a perfect fit”.

  14. casinoroyal19 says:

Mel Kiper on Sports Center just said that Akeem Ayers could slip into the 2nd round. Maybe he could be a line backer pick up?

  15. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Looks like all the “Royal’s” are in full attendance lol

  16. casinoroyal19 says:

Ive changed my opinion on our pick. Im still an avid Peterson fan, and i would be thrilled to get him, but i kinda want us to grab Von Miller now. There are enough good DTs in the draft that we can get a good one in the 2nd round to play along side whoever we have. But if you think about it, who do we have at LB besides DJ? thats why i think we should take Von Miller

  17. royalbroncofan1 says:

We just need two more to constitute a “royal flush” !! Lol!

  18. Borrachazo C.R says:

    LOL “the royals”… XD

  19. casinoroyal19 says:

Lol idk what other royals are on here

  20. Borrachazo C.R says:

Guys! Bernard Pollard from Houston has been cut by the Texans! That guy plays hard for 60 min and is a GREAT tackler! What do you think about him!? Do you think he had something to do with that worst ranke pass defense of them!? I saw him in 2 games and he was better than average in covering!

  21. casinoroyal19 says:

I could go for signing him. He always seemed like a pretty good player when i watched him. Know how old the guy is?

  22. Borrachazo C.R says:

That would be awesome! Him, Atogwe, Huff, Weddle, Wilso… Any of those FA would be and upgrade for the secondary! ;)

  23. casinoroyal19 says:

I didnt know that Weddle was a FA. Ive always liked him too

  24. Borrachazo C.R says:

6-1, 224 pounds! 26 years OLD! That guy is an monster at SS…(info from teaxans website)!

  25. Borrachazo C.R says:

I think weddle has been tendered already though…

  26. casinoroyal19 says:

Oh ok. Pollard still sounds like a good pick uo though if that happens. It would have to happen fast though. Plus he is probably better than any safety in this years draft

  27. Borrachazo C.R says:

Yeap, they decided not to give him a contract and became a unrestricted FA as of today! Cut Hill and bring some of those guys please X-man, #7 and Foxy! LOL

  28. Borrachazo C.R says:

or Dawkins, just for payroll you know, have nothing against him! Is just that 09 is not lasting for ever, if you know what I mean…

  29. casinoroyal19 says:

yeah i know. I personally thought that we should get rid of both of them, Hill and Dawk, and get two new younger ones. Pollard sure would fill one of those spots. Maybe we get a safety through the draft too. its not a deep safety draft by any means, but if we were willing to use our first 2nd on Rahim Moore, he might still be there. IMO he is the only one worth drafting this year that would be good for our team

  30. strandoftds says:

The raiders are about to release O-Lineman Robert Gallery.

  31. casinoroyal19 says:

Yeah, i saw that too Strand. Personally idk if that effects us any just cuz i dont think we will be looking at too many OL this year with all the young guys that we have right now. But you never know i guess.

  32. casinoroyal19 says:

if anything right now it just puts the raiders back a step. Anything to set them back…..lol

  33. strandoftds says:

I wouldn`t want to draft an O-Lineman this year.

  34. strandoftds says:

    FTR the raiders

  35. casinoroyal19 says:

Oh me either. Not woth this deep of a defensive draft. That being said, im not sold on Beadles, and i think that we will need to replace Harris eventually if he keeps getting hurt.

  36. Borrachazo C.R says:

No O-Line on the draft please! Give them a 2nd year working together as a UNIT and they should ALL improve! Hope injures stop bothering us that much so there won’t be any major setbacks! I kind of like Zane Beadles, McDuffus was switching him to position every other game! Walton, that is the one that needs to be better, in my humble opinion!

  37. b4life says:

i hear all these people talking about drafting peterson. Last year the pass wasnt as much of a problem as the run defense dont get me wrong talent like his comes alone very rarely but if you draft Marcell Dareus that opens up gaps for your linebackers to come in and clean up. How many probowls has the cbs for the steelers gone to combined? its all about the trenches and its not a glamor pick like Peterson but a corner stone for your defense now thats a big pick. You could always pick up a corner in the second id rather they got a young safety unless denver signs atogwe. I wanted bowers for awhile at the number two but somehow that still doesnt fix the run defense but you never know since Bannan and Marcus thomas are going to be moving to defensive tackle you could take a guy like bowers but i think if bowers is gone you take Dareus that guy will be special im not saying peterson isnt but truthfully i see the corner position as a glamor pick because now a days you run a cover two or a zone defense and if your line can rush the passer you dont really need guys to be special they can be average.

  38. broncosfreak30 says:

    We just cut Maroney!!!

  39. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Breaking news for those that don’t have their eyes or ears glued to the TV: Schefler reports that news is more optimistic that an extension will get passed as was the case in 2006 which gave them a couple more weeks to get a deal done.

He had gotten word this morning that by 90 minutes of the 9am start this morning weather or not that they would decertify saying “90 minutes came and went and there still was no word and 90 more minutes came and went and that was the sign that something was a little off and not the way people thought and sure enough people started texting me that the possibility of extending talks was real.” So things looking more pessimistic this morning are now looking much more optimistic.

President Obama also chimes in when asked about the NFL while in Mexico the president saying “ You’ve got owners most of them are worth a billion and players making millions. My working assumption at a time when people have to cut back, compromise, making the mortgage and paying for their kids college. The two sides should be able to work it out without the president intervening. Turns out I got a lot of other stuff to do, in an industry making 9 Billion they can figure out a way to divide it up in a sensible way.”

HA! I bet that reporter felt like an idiot asking the President of the United States about how football negotiations should be worked out. Talking about a face in the palm moment haha

  40. Borrachazo C.R says:

b4life, you hit a triple, but not a homerun! LOL
I agree with pretty much you said, and I understand your point!
I have been sayin’ we should take the best player available(and likely the best in the whole draft) for some reason, like DL is a pretty talented class this year, we would need at least another year(draft) to hopefully finish filling out holes in our Defense(meanig we could get DT next year also), if we got the chance to choose from Suh/McCoy and Peterson, wouldn’t even think about it, but there is no one like those 2 at DT I believe and to top it off, Champ’s becoming 33 this year, eventually we would need a replacement for him and I would give Peterson a shot to fill his shoes some day anytime!
He’s been declared the “Cleanest/Safest” pick of this draft, even if we get our DT with the 2nd overall, we still need next year, if you get my point… Patience could be very rewarding!
I think those are some solid arguments that would justify an eventual arrival for him to Denver!

  41. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

That is so funny that O-Lineman Robert Gallery wants out of the Oakland Haters haha I love a kick in the gut to them punks anyway they can get it!!

  42. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

    Shockey signs with Carolina!!

  43. Borrachazo C.R says:

DT Dareus would be my 2nd choice I guess, would still be good if we get him over Fairley!

  44. Borrachazo C.R says:

    FTR!!! Screw Dorkland!

  45. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Never saw Shockey in a Broncos uniform anyway and wouldn’t have even gave him a second look if we didn’t need a catching TE. As I believe bay posted a while back.

  46. strandoftds says:

    FTR!!!

  47. strandoftds says:

Maroney didn`t do a single thing for the Bronco`s. What a bust for a wasted 4th round 2011 pick. That just flusters me to waste a pick like that.

  48. strandoftds says:

We haven`t heard a word about the Safety Atogwe. You`d think he would want to sign with a team before the deadline.

  49. b4life says:

Yeah you would want Peterson but i still dont see how he helps stuff the run from the outside, the only reason i dont choose Dareus of nick fairly is because Dareus has done it longer than nick, if your going to spend a 2nd overall pick you need to make sure the guy produces more than one year maybe fairly is better but in my opinion you cant risk being this far set back, the releasing of Bannan and Williams seems to solidify my point that denver will be drafting a DT, not Peterson. You can pick up a good solid corner in the second talent on the defensive side is very high this year but im my opinion you need a defensive tackle that can wreck havoc on the opposing line just like Suh, i want you to name the starting corners for the lions. Alfonso Smith looked a heck of alot better there than here, and the question i wanna ask you is why? Because that defensive line is crazy talented now look at denvers line up even in the 4-3 its Elvis(great) Ayers(jurys still out) marcus(average at best) and who else? no i definitely see more upside to drafting a guy like dareus than peterson, your going to tell me as of right now peterson would make us better? because denver has invested so much in corners in bly and goodman that if we draft peterson what was the point in signing champ for four years? In that case cut him loose draft peterson and hope to god you dont miss in the second round on a DT? I just dont see it that way all good teams are built down the middle, Ravens they have Haloti Nata if thats how you spell it with ray lewis on the back side you have the steelers casey hampton and farrior in the back you have the green bay packers with B.J. dear lord we need to solidify our middle then you work on the outside you cant build the roof to a building with no walls sir thats the way i see it lol
