Pro Bowl: Quotables

December 26th, 2012 - 5:48pm by Stuart Zaas

Five Broncos were named to the 2013 Pro Bowl, the league announced on Wednesday.

Below are what the players had to say about the honor:

CORNERBACK CHAMP BAILEY (12th Career Selection)
“I do my thing and I’ve done my thing over the years, but when you’re on a team like this and you play well, people are going to notice. It’s really just part of my team and what we’ve done. That’s pretty much why I’m in there. It’s definitely a team thing. At some point I want to be able to tell the people at the Pro Bowl that I’m not coming because I’m playing in the Big Game. That’s really what my eyes are on, just making sure we keep winning and get to that Big Game.”

QUARTERBACK PEYTON MANNING (12th Career Selection)
“It’s a tremendous honor and I am very humbled to receive this recognition. Being voted to the Pro Bowl by your opponents, their coaches and of course the fans means a great deal to me, especially when you consider how many other quarterbacks in the AFC are having outstanding seasons. This recognition shows that our offensive line did a great job with protection. It shows that our wide receivers and tight ends made a lot of plays. My goal has always been to go out and help the team win and play at a high level. Anything that comes along with that, like being honored as a Pro Bowl selection, is very humbling.”

On if this year’s Pro Bowl selection means more to him
“Well it’s certainly very humbling anytime you’re voted for something special like the Pro Bowl by your peers, by your fellow opponents and coaches, and then of course by the fans. It really means a great deal. It’s certainly been a unique year for me with a ton of change and transition so I’m very humbled and honored to receive this recognition.”

On if making the Pro Bowl is a personal goal of his every year
“My personal goals every year just involve playing quarterback at a high level. I figure if I do that, that’s going to help our team have a better chance to win. Anything that comes along with that, like I said it’s very humbling and it’s a great honor but it’s not really a goal that you set for individual awards. My goal is to go out there and throw completions, protect the ball, try to get us into the endzone and try to play quarterback at a high level.”

On why it is so important to him to compete hard at the Pro Bowl
“I don’t know. It probably has something to do with that it’s been a part of my family’s history; my dad played in two Pro Bowls – he played in the first one over in Hawaii in 1980 and I got to go as a kid. Just going early on in my career, being around some other great NFL players – the late Junior Seau, Ray Lewis, Rich Gannon, some of these early quarterbacks – made a big impression on me. It’s always been important to me probably for those reasons.”

On if he could have envisioned at the beginning of the year being in the position the Broncos are in right now
“It was really hard to know what to predict what was going to happen this year for our team. It was a new team. I felt like all year long we were trying to form our identity, try to develop team chemistry – we’re still doing that. Anytime you can do that and put some wins together, that’s a good thing. But I still feel like we can improve – we need to improve and try to use this last week to get better as a team.”

TACKLE RYAN CLADY (3rd Career Selection)
“It’s a good feeling. I worked hard this off season and hard work pays off. I’m glad I was able to be selected. Being chosen back-to-back seasons is pretty cool and it’s nice not being an alternate because I don’t have to depend on someone not playing. Our offense is very explosive so it helps our offensive line get more recognition. It’s a great thing.”

DEFENSIVE END ELVIS DUMERVIL (3rd Career Selection)
“It’s a blessing. It wasn’t all pretty all year but I give thanks to the coaching staff, the fans and the guys I play with—my teammates. I‘m not just representing myself but I’m representing guys that have been a part of it, from everybody in the building—the turf guys to equipment—everybody. It’s an honor to be nominated by the fans, my peers and the coaches around the league. I’m humbled to be selected for this honor.”

LINEBACKER VON MILLER (2nd Career Selection)
“It’s a cool honor and it’s great to be voted in by your peers as well as the fans. It’s really a product of the type of defense we are playing and the great coaches and teammates I have around me. I don’t really look into all those individual accolades because I think our eyes are on something a little bit bigger than the Pro Bowl.”

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS JOHN ELWAY

On the Broncos’ Pro Bowlers
“It’s always great. I think that as a player, it’s always nice to get that recognition from the coaches as well as the players. My congratulations go out to those five guys as well as (the alternates). You always look at it, we always get biased and think that we should have had more guys on the team, but it’s nice to have those five guys get that recognition and then DT being a first alternate. It’s a great thing for them and they will represent the Denver Broncos very well.”

On Champ Bailey and Peyton Manning earning their 12th Pro Bowl selections
“Two special guys right there. When you talk about players and the greatness of players, you look at Champ and you look at Peyton. For them to be elected to another Pro Bowl, I think it just goes to show you how great their careers have been. Obviously they’re on a direct path to Canton.”

    Wesley Woodyard

Robert Mathis!? 8 sacks basically as a rush end (wood had 5.5 as a true OLB)

Tamba Hali!? Please, hes on the worst team in the NFL and was outplaye by Justin Houston..
    Pro Bowl is a joke

Wesley Woodyard was unmatched in overall production and has been a team captain since his rookie season! Boo to the Pro Bowl for leaving him out. He earned and deserved that recognition. I’m happy for our fellow Broncos but Wesley Woodyard, Zane Beadles, David Bruton, and Orlando Franklin should be 1st teamers in my humble opinion! If I were a fan telling the truth, Pro Bowl is nothing more than a popularity contest anymore. Not taking away from our guys that made it, but Orangetotheship is spot on!
