Preseason Week 4: Wednesday Practice Blog

August 31st, 2011 - 2:05pm by Max Henson

The fourth preseason game usually provides backups with an opportunity to make a statement, especially at the quarterback position, where the Broncos have had a solid competition for reps leading up to the start of the regular season.

Head Coach John Fox didn’t reveal who would start tomorrow night in Arizona against the Cardinals after his team practiced this afternoon in shells, but he described what he’ll be looking for when one of his quarterbacks takes the field.

“Lead the team — I think No. 1, first and foremost, that’s the job of the quarterback,” Fox said. “We’ll be looking at all of them and how well they direct the offense. Each week we’re trying to get better and it will be no different tomorrow night.”

Fox reiterated that he’s been pleased with the progression of each of his signal-callers, and he’s looking forward to seeing them compete Thursday.

“I like our quarterback situation,” Fox said. “I feel good about the players we have at the position and as well as they keep working hard and remain professional about it and getting better every day, I’m sure I’ll continue those feelings.”

After the quarterback discussion, Fox was asked if anyone in particular had stood out to him with the regular season fast-approaching and his middle linebacker came to mind.

“On a short look, a guy that comes to mind is (LB) Joe Mays,” Fox said. “He’s a guy that had limited action a year ago.
We had seen him a little bit in Philadelphia. Playing in the 3-4 is a little bit different than playing in the 4-3, and I like the way he’s gone about his business thus far.”

As for the team as a whole, Fox said his group is working steadily to meet their own high expectations.

“They’ve had a good mindset and a good attitude throughout the process,” Fox said. “Even though it’s been a short time I think we’ve made some progress, but as we go into the regular season, we’ll find out.”

ROLL CALL
Defensive end Elvis Dumervil and offensive lineman Chris Kuper did not participate.

Defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson returned to action.

Travis Henry, he didn’t have the munchies, he had babies instead, LOL.

  2. baylinorcrush says:

If we keep 4 TEs you may have your wish with Virgil but the issue with McBath is his smallish size for a NFL safety and therefore staying healthy.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Actually Moore and Carter are about the same size as McBath, but Dawk, Bruton and McCarthy are bigger.

Well, enough work for tonight, but that was fun, got me to learn more about our roster.

I honestly didnt think picking 27 players would be that tough but here is my thoughts:

    Anderson, David WR
    Ball, Lance RB
    Beal, Jeremy DE
    Bowen, Alvin LB
    Brown, Ronnell DT
    Byers, Jeff G
    Cox, Perrish CB
    Davis, Britt WR
    Goodwin, D’Andre WR
    Grant, Adam T
    Gronkowski, Dan TE
    Hamler, Jamel WR
    Harris, Chris CB
    Hauschka, Steven K
    Hunter, Jason DE
    McBath, Darcel S
    Minor, Brandon RB
    Mohamed, Mike MLB
    Olsen, Eric G
    Orton, Greg WR
    Pressley, DeMario DT
    Ramirez, Manny G
    Riley, Eron WR
    Robinson, Lee LB
    Sylvester, Austin RB
    Unrein, Mitch DT
    Weber, Adam QB

    PS additions:

Weber, Davis, Robinson, Ball, Hunter, Mohamed, Olsen, McBath

Although given Prater’s DUI, I can see keeping Hauschka on the PS for now.

  9. stevecan2 says:

    Why would Cox get cut?

  10. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

With his pending legal troubles, could lead to jail time, suspensions, etc. My thoughts are that he is pretty much guilty considering he lied about having sex with her but its his baby. That is kinda hard to happen without sex…I just think the broncos should cut ties with him now instead of the distraction that he could become.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

I would agree and therefore I put Cox on my list and add Virgil to the roster.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Put Cox on my cut list that is..

  13. GeorgeinABQ says:

I saw some lists up here saying David Anderson should be cut. What preseason games did you watch. The guy can catch the ball!

  14. baylinorcrush says:

    That wasn’t me, haha.
