Preseason Week 4: Monday Practice Blog

August 29th, 2011 - 3:07pm by Max Henson

After a day off following Saturday’s victory against Seattle, the Broncos were back on the field Monday at Dove Valley, practicing in shells as they prepare for Thursday’s final exhibition against Arizona.

ROLL CALL
Linebacker D.J. Williams and defensive lineman Brodrick Bunkley both missed practice after sustaining injuries against the Seahawks.
Offensive lineman Chris Kuper and defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson also did not participate.

Russ Hochstein worked with the first-team O-line in place of Kuper and Jeremy Jarmon and Ryan McBean ran with the first-team D-line in place of Bunkley and Vickerson. Wesley Woodyard served as Williams’ replacement at linebacker.

Safety David Bruton and linebacker Mario Haggan practiced after being held out of Saturday’s game.

DAILY JUKEBOX
“Purple Haze” – Jimmy Hendrix
“Look At Me Now” – Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes
“Song 2” – Blur

POSTION DRILLS
The team broke into groups and the defense immediately went to work on fumble drills. Each position practiced strip sacks and the linebackers later went through a footwork drill before scooping up a loose ball.

The quarterbacks worked with wide receivers on sideline routes, with the wideouts working on controlling the ball with two feet in bounds.

The tight ends, meanwhile, focused on blocking.

PLAYMAKERS
The defensive backs were credited with several interceptions today.

The first one was provided by cornerback Perrish Cox, who intercepted Adam Weber during team drills.

Later on in 7-on-7 drills, cornerback Champ Bailey picked off Brady Quinn and Chris Harris came down with an interception shortly thereafter – catching the ball after Kyle Orton’s pass bounced off of Eric Decker.

Rahim Moore intercepted Quinn when the team returned to team drills and David Bruton picked off a short pass from Tim Tebow. But Tebow responded immediately, connecting with D’Andre Goodwin deep down the left sideline on the next play.

Bruton recorded the final interception of the session and received a rowdy applause from his defensive teammates after he jumped a route and stretched out to make a highlight-reel catch.

Running back Jeremiah Johnson produced some big plays during a 9-on-9 running game-only session, reaching the end zone on three separate occasions from 20 yards out.

QUICK HITS

  • Willis McGahee kept himself plenty busy during special teams drills, doing a set of weighted lunges and a set of squats off to the side. The running back also did some sprinting on his own.
  • Brian Dawkins spent time on the stationary bike during the special teams portion of practice.
  • Tebow and Adam Weber ran routes for one another towards the end of the session.
  • Conditioning continued today with the players not involved with special teams running 40-yard gassers on the far field.

not trying to steal your post bro, just adding the link.

    9. Crazyhorserider says:

I wanted to go for a winning season and so I am going 8-7-1

    10. strandoftds says:

Hey BFE, want to earn 100 mill? I know the secret bro.

    11. Cdudbronc24 says:

      9-7

    12. baylinorcrush says:

8-8? I don’t know OC, still gotta think it over, but honestly I’m more looking like 5-11 ultra-realistic pick, 6-10 pretty much best possibility, 7-9, real optimistic outlook, so 8-8 would be like buying into the kool aid? LOL.

But you really never know, and as usual I’ll wait for the deadline to post.

    13. roya1fantasy says:

Does anyone know how bad bunkly’s injury is? what it is? and how long he’ll be out?

      Prediction: 7-9

I am predicting that against my better judgment of picking 6-10

I think that our D will surprise teams enough to give us an extra win or two.

    14. sndvl says:

Personally, I like the “Legion of DOOM” as the nickname.

I can see the pic now Elvis in the front, in an orange jersey, pads and helmet to his side; with Von, Dawk, DJ, Champ and company lined up behind him with helmets and black visors….

Now that would a poster I would pay for!!!(this year too…lol)

    15. baylinorcrush says:

Bunkley with a sprained knee will probably miss the first regular season game.

    16. baylinorcrush says:

Problem with that is Bailey makes more money this year than Doom… but I get you, however I don’t care how they picture themselves, or how we do picture them, as long as they win.

    17. baylinorcrush says:

Bailey is on the cover of the website… Like Dawk was last year, does that mean Doom will be next year?

    18. sndvl says:

This group is too good to be that bad (32) again!

    19. WieminCA says:

It’s a long way until Jan 1 – the game that will decide who wins the prediction contest … hope I’m still in the running, and that the Broncos must LOSE for me to win … that means they’ll be better than I think they will … we’re not deep enough to overcome injuries at certain positions (RB?? – CB??) … so – I thing the Broncos will go 6 – 10 … that’s my head talking – you can guess what my heart says …

      WieminCA says — Broncos in 2011 will go — 6 – 10!!!

    20. BeastFromEast92 says:

What about Doom and Zoom(remember the movie Zoom, with Tim Allen playing the super fast superhero named Zoom),Miller likes Superheroes.

      Doom and Zoom!!!!!!!!!

sndvl…..I like The Legion of Doom the 1st time I heard it dude!

      Hey strand,I’m game bro!
(you have to let me in on your secret tho).

    21. alexanserg says:

Hey bay, you get my prediction? 10-6 I say.

    22. alexanserg says:

Bay, in reference to your 8:16 post. I believe quinn makes more than Miller. Doesn’t mean much when you are talking about who is most important. It should, but …

    23. sirobertvondoom says:

      BFE,

I like DOOM and ZOOM! stomping the feat in mile high yellin every series either DOOOOM OR ZOOOOOM! I never got to experience mile high magic but i can just see it comin back now…roaring mile high will once again be a feared arena!!!

      sndvl

that sounds like a mean poster, id definitely buy one! so excited for our D this yr, think it will be like the first few weeks of nolan running our D before McD did uh whatever he did. Same core players with some “nice” additions ;)

    24. sirobertvondoom says:

Also in regards to cox, he did test positive for being the daddy so it seems he wouldnt be a good guy to have in the locker room….what do u guys think?

    25. mex bronco says:

      10-6

    26. broncosmex says:

      8-8

    27. thebroncoguy says:

Wow it has been a long time since i have posted on here, better part a year. But I’m liking what I have seeing lately, the broncos are playing good football, and the fans are complaining about a HC, but talking football. Gotta love it!

As for a prediction I would love to see anything above 500 but its going to be a tough call, if can stay healthy then I can see a t 10-6 record, but if the injury bug bites this year, 6-10. Final call Broncos go 9-7 on the year and 2nd in the division.

    28. Superbowlboundbroncos says:

      11-5.

Str8 2 the Superbowl we go!!

    29. alexanserg says:

sirobertvondoom: Yeah, there was a paternity test done, and sure enough Cox is the baby daddy.

That doesn’t mean it wasn’t consensual. She says “she doesn;t remember anything, so she must have been drugged.” I have my doubts. Actually the more I think about it, the more I doubt he will be found guilty.

More likely, he is just gonna have to pay out big. I suspect that is what she was really going for. I mean, I hate to be unreasonable, but what two girls go back with two high profile NFL players to their home late at night after drinks and all. I find it hard to believe she went up there for platonic relations.

But then I don’t know anything about it other than what I have read. But why would nfl players have to roofie girls? Why would they want to? Girls line up for celebrity/pro athlete types.

    30. alexanserg says:

BTW, she waited several weeks. According to her the first clue of wrong doing was her turning up pregnant.

Conveniently enough that is long enough so that even if he did drug her, it would no longer be in her system. As far as I know, there is absolutely no evidence against him other than her saying she doesn’t remember what happened.

    31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

hahaha, mex bronco and broncosmex really need to not post after eachother … for a second i was like … huh, 2 predictions, what changed in 2 minutes? lol. TRB

    32. alexanserg says:

      I can imagine it now:

Defense attorney to “victim”: So, what happened?

      “Victim”: I don’t remember

      Jury: Not guilty

    33. alexanserg says:

Trb: lol. So does that make you dyslexic or racist?

      haha, jk

    34. alexanserg says:

      At any rate.

      Go Broncos!!

      VON – DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    35. sirobertvondoom says:

      alex,
we have seen this situation before with Kobe in colorado and he went free, it will be interesting to see. Knowing he will be able to play this season is great! i think we have a good young secondary that could take over in coming yrs…couple run stuffers via free agency and i see a top 10 D THIS YR!

    36. 1nOnlyTRB says:

alexanserg, if u read the 11 page report you would feel different. Part of the reason she didn’t expect anything to go down with cox was because the other girl was Cox girlfriend. She was his GF friend. If anything she was there for another player but not Cox. Dunno if she was roofied or just incredibly drunk but either way she was not “fit” to understand what was going on. DT said she passed out and he left, so she did pass out … and before passing out she hadn’t had relations with cox, and after that day no relations either … so to come out pregnant is like … what happened. That doesn’t mean she didn’t regain conciousness and then they both consented but sounds unlikely. At the time she was also dating Wesley Woodyard. Either way from that long police report looked like he was very guilty. I think he will get off but all i know is he said he had NEVER had sex with her, they never did anything with one another and THEN came out the father … really? really? If he had said they had slept together before, the question of when and where and deniability woulda been he says she says but to say u never have and then come out a father … wow buddy lol. sounds like u were trying to coverup something that she may not remember and that u shouldn’t have done. But anything is possible. He may be innocent. Crazier things have happened. TRB

    37. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Alex lol i am neither … when i look at titles i dont fully read em … i like glance over them and before I am done reading it I already have a very good idea of the name of the writer cuz I am on the boards kinda regularly.

All we need Cox is for THIS year. It was part of the reason I wanted patrick peterson, but if Cox can play this season and then we can draft a CB next season, not neccesarily first round cuz we need DT, then we can cut cox. TRB

    38. alexanserg says:

TRB: you would make a great prosecutor. That will be the argument the prosecutor will make. And of course the police report looks bad. That is their job. They don’t right down the stuff that favors the victim.

On a side note: never talk to cops, unless to ask for help. Even then, don’t tell them why. All they are listening for is crimes they can charge you with.

    39. alexanserg says:

sirobertvondoom: /agree. I think this is exactly like the Kobe case (without the marital infidelity). She just wants money imo.

    40. alexanserg says:

Also, this whole drunk thing. If he was not drinking at all, and tricked her into getting drunk (I’m not sure how he could do that since you can taste alcohol, and it generally leaves a kinda burning/warm feeling in the stomach. Also, only the worst binge drinkers actually black out) then sure, maybe it was wrong.

But if they got drunk together, or she just chose to get really drunk and then acted a fool … that ain’t rape. That’s just an adult woman acting like a fool.

    41. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Police report was actually a full account of what happened from HER perspective and the investigation that preceeded. Its a pretty good read. So anything is possible, it could be a lie but what i read aint seem like it. Im interested in how it plays out, if its about money, im pretty sure she will make alot from child support alone but i wasn’t there so i dont know. Only cox, vaughn and Demeryous Thomas were there. And Cox girl I guess. TRB

    42. 1nOnlyTRB says:

alex im just telling u the law … sex with a drunk woman if she presses charges can get u into trouble for no reason … because sex with a drunk girl is not considered consented sex. Heck, even consented sex if it was rough enough can be turned around by a chick to look like rape. Its just the way it is lol. Whether she planned to get wasted or not, no trickeration necessary, she willingly drank, she just said she felt unusually woozy from i think it was 4 drinks … she says she drinks 4 drinks pretty regularly and never passes out .. 4 drinks is alot for a female from what i know but hey … its gonna be a bunch of he say she say lol. TRB

    43. alexanserg says:

Correction to my 12:16 post: write*

The grammar nazis know what I am talking about.

    44. alexanserg says:

@trb: sex with a sober girl can get you in trouble too, if she decides she wants to tell the cops you raped her. She has genetic evidence to prove it, if she is like that.

    45. alexanserg says:

Many a man’s life has been ruined by a girl who decided to lie.

    46. alexanserg says:

Don’t get me wrong. Rape is a terrible thing and it happens all the time. But false claims of rape happen all the time too.

    47. alexanserg says:

“she willingly drank, she just said she felt unusually woozy from i think it was 4 drinks …”

      /Sarcasm on
Yeah, there is not reasonable doubt there.
      /Sarcasm off

      Not guilty

    48. 1nOnlyTRB says:

when my google chrome registers DP .com / broncos … it says Broncos, Tim Tebow news, scores, roster, stats – the denver post lol …. Tim Tebow news? really, is that a joke … i had noticed Tebow always used to show in description of address but never paid it any mind lol. TRB

    49. 1nOnlyTRB says:

“Heck, even consented sex if it was rough enough can be turned around by a chick to look like rape.” i did address that as well … and also addressed that 4 drinks ssounds like alot for a girl but who knows … anyway, we will see how it plays out. TRB

    50. alexanserg says:

TRB: you are right. If the girl really wanted a pay off she should have said she like it rough.

Lord knows that has happened be for. She scratches while pretending to like it. She says, choke me. Yada yada yada.

Many a girl has either gotten revenge or gotten a pay day that way,

But I think the jury will be smart enough to see through that when it is some girl claiming against a famous rich dude.

      At least I hope.

BTW, if he really did it, I hope he is found guilty. But I doubt he did it, and I doubt he will be found guilty.
