The Broncos came out in shells and shorts for practice Thursday morning as they gear up for their final preseason home game against the Seattle Seahawks just two days away. But even though the team wasn’t in pads, the chest bumps didn’t go away.
ROLL CALL
In addition to Demaryius Thomas and Ty Warren, defensive tackle Marcus Thomas (pectoral), Jamel Hamler (lower back) and safety David Bruton (concussion) sat out practice today. Bruton watched practice from the sidelines today.
Linebacker Mario Haggan, who hadn’t practiced since injuring his shoulder against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, returned to practice and participated in all his usual drills.
Brandon Lloyd left practice early due to a team decision, and Kyle Orton was excused from the end of practice due to a personal issue.

PLAYMAKERS
The Broncos spent the first team session working on end zone possessions from inside the 10-yard line.
Receiver Eric Decker made a nice catch in the end zone from Orton.

The tight ends were active, as Virgil Green caught a touchdown pass from Tim Tebow and Dante Rosario joined the mix with a scoring catch from Brady Quinn. Rosario and Quinn were on the same page, as the quarterback found the tight end on a perfect 20-yard pass down the middle of the field over Rosario’s shoulder later in the day.
Receiver Matt Willis had a nice catch in the end zone one play after he slipped during his route. Orton had the confidence to go back to the emerging fourth-year receiver and Willis validated it.

Linebacker Joe Mays got up to tip a ball destined for the end zone and break up the play. Just moments earlier, in individual drills, the linebackers were working on swatting balls away from receivers from various angles.
Cornerback Nate Jones and safety Darcel McBath both had interceptions on the day. Jones’ came via a Quinn pass tipped by linebacker Deron Mayo and McBath intercepted Adam Weber. After McBath’s interception, Assistant Secondary Coach Sam Garnes gave him a chest bump.

Quinn, who took some first team snaps along with Tebow after Orton’s departure from practice, threw a nice 40-yard pass to receiver Eddie Royal down the sideline.
QUICK HITS
Kicker Steven Hauschka spent a large portion of practice kicking on his own on the side turf field.
Green had a nice lead block for running back Lance Ball during a scrimmage that freed up the third-year player.
Aside from his interception, McBath also made a nice play to break up a Weber pass intended for Rosario in the end zone.
During a drill that required the linebackers to run around weighted dummy-pads and swat at them with their arms, Von Miller, sporting a new haircut, was one of the only players to knock all four weighted dummy-pads to the ground. He did it twice in a row.

As the Broncos went through special teams drills at the end of practice, the defensive linemen had some fun. One player got a head start and would backpedal around a circle painted on the grass while another player, running forwards, tried to catch him.
Kicker Matt Prater took a break and showed off his soccer skills with some juggling and rainbow maneuvers on the side using the soccer balls that are used in a special teams drill.

One more day!!! It’s always fun to back the Orange and Blue.
Hauschka, or Prater. Prater didn’t miss a field goal last year. However, he did have a DUI… Hauschka played well with Prater on the IR. I’m still going with Prater.
Tom Brandstater (aka Friar Tuck) is on the Cowboys. I wonder where Weber will land. I don’t see us signing him to the practice squad.
Jax Jags cut their roster down by 5 guys already. I wonder when our team is going to start trimming.
well actually we already have trimmed around 5 guys also via waived/injured and being cut
Well … looks like the kids got first team reps … Cuz Orton left with a personal issue … hope everything is fine … yea i may clown the guy but personal issues sometimes invovle family emergencies so I hope all is well.
Actually TT was friar tuck … I can’t remember what Brandstater was.
I am all for Prater over Hauska, I believe he is the best kicker in the game. But doesn’t hurt to have 2 solid kickers … incase Prater misses time for DUI
Looking forward to Saturday. TRB
Woulda been nice if they showed Millers new look. TRB
Good … looks like the reason Orton left might have been a happy one. He has a baby on the way.
DP comment
“Orton ran off the field more than 90 minutes into practice.
This I would have to have video of to believe”
Lmao … Thats what happens when a baby is on the way … man probably ran his fatest 40 ever lmao.
Didn’t the kicker for the Cards have a career day against us last season TRB?
Did he? all I remember are the 3 Orton INTs some of which went for TDs … against what was not a very good AZ defense … not to forget the lost fumble lol
… just saying
It’s funny… Another case of Timmy getting all the press. Brandstater was the original Friar… TT just happened to put the look all over the world. Tom was just a “regular” 3rd stringer… TT, everything but.

I wonder if Quinn and TT are thinking they could be starters if they only played with the rest of the first team too…? Everyone rises to the occasion?
oh yea he had a bunch of Kicks and a TD run.
TRB,
Brandstater was also Friar Tuck.
I wonder what it meant by ‘Brandon Lloyd left practice early due to a team decision’? Did the team just want him to be together with Orton? LOL! (JK)
Go Broncos!
aww man so i am watching the highlights or should i say lowlights form the cardinals game last year … man that was some good hussle by lance ball on that INT returned for a td … he smacked the ball out but another cardinal was there to recover it … maybe he should play D … cuz he is an average runner at best lmao. TRB
oh was he cam? … huh … it was 2 years ago so i cannot really remember. lol … back in the days … we had McD coaching decisions, now we have team decisions … luckily i dont think they mean the same thing LOL … TRB
I was mistaken, but I was close. I don’t know which one was worse. ha ha!
http://union.sportsblognet.com/2009/08/14/denver-bronco-rooking-hazing-at-its-best/
Hey TRB, where are you watching them? I missed that game and never bothered to watch the DVR. I wouldn’t mind checking them out.
Lol @ meaning the same thing! Reason #1536 why I’m glad McD is gone
Brandstater had a “Terry Bradshaw-look” haircut.
Orton’s personal issue is his sis blew a fuse, see last blog, LOL.
Sndvl, http://www.nfl.com/videos/denver-broncos#page:6
That should have what u need. The game highlight is more of a jay feely highlight, but they have individual plays. most of which are not flatering to your boy lol. TRB
Really Bay? and here I thought Kyle was having him self a lil neckbeard lol. TRB
Talking about neckbeard, what’s with Doom and Bailey…
I think my boy Willis is going to be the #4 WR and I love it.
BTW, if that’s how Orton stretches, no wonder he looks a little stiff on the field, hahaha, specially for you sndvl, LOL.
I think its good that tebow and quinn got reps with the first team cuz i have a feeling that orton might break a finger. I was at that cards game last year and the broncos got whooped on both sides of the ball but i stayed til the end cuz i love my broncos.
looking forward to a great year Go broncos!
Not just both sides of the ball … all 3 phases … ST kicked our butts lol. Altho we held them to alot of FGs but with all our turnovers, 1 which went for a TD … its easy to see why we got own.
Beards are a badge of honor in the NFL …and Doom and bailey are rocking them hard. Dooms is more tamed, Champs is more WILD man lol. TRB
Matt Willis is defintiely number 4 … man … we got alot of recievers. Demeryius Thomas might be hard pressed to get a spot on this team.
Just for the record, both first round picks from last year … limited to no time on the field last year and possibly this year … only the broncos, clearly a series of unfortunate events have played a part but still. TRB
Also Bay…
If you watch the video of sounds from the locker room from the last game, it looks like Miller is also trying to look like Bailey and Doom!! haha
Since we’ve been talking about Orton and that’s nice since we’re not talking about you know who, let’s face it Orton will always be the Rodney Dangerfield of football like sndvl said in the last blog, the guy who gets no respect. I mean who has an Orton jersey, who has an Orton pic on their wall, who has an autographed anything by Orton, what kid wants to grow up to be like Orton, who would love to marry Orton, I could go on and on, but Orton does not polarize the fan base, he is not that kind of guy, he gets up, goes to work, it’s a business, he gets the game over with, gives an interview because he has to, he says business as usual and he goes home and starts the business of it all over again without ever showing much more about anything, I mean the guy is bland as they come, personality appeal zero. So of course many folks will poke fun at guys like him who make millions of dollars but don’t seem to be enjoying it, hence he makes his own bed, and he sleeps in it alone, haha, well not with many fans anyway, wonder what his wife looks like, did Rodney Dangerfield ever have a wife, LOL. It’s all in fun, everyone has a personality and no one can change those, that’s the beauty of life, why everybody is different, Orton is just the lunch pail guy if he was on the metro going to work, no one would ever know he was even there, just the way he is, or seems like to me anyway, nothing wrong with that other that it clashes with everyday stars in the NFL, fans just don’t associate with his demeanor, they want more, so they buy you know who’s jersey, LOL.
Thanks TRB! All I can hope for is that the memories of the last unflattering season are erased this season.
Nothing is better than WINNING!
1991, I feel ya. I stayed till the bitter end of the game on Black Sunday.
Bay, you’re damn right I blew a fuse. Just thinking about that day…brings up bad memories. Its funny though. I was ahead of the curve on McD. Same with Orton. And you call me his sister. Instead of giving credit where credit is due.
It’s ok though, because I have a sneaky suspicion Fox’s Orton will be a different breed. And Tebow will be backup (if BQ is traded)
Don’t get carried away sndvl, you want praise for having wanted Orton to be the man all along, let’s wait until the end of the season for that to see how it works out first, ok?
I dont think orton will be a different breed with fox he will be the same old orton that we have seen in the past. I have never liked orton since we traded away jay cutler. The reason why nobody likes orton is cuz he does WOW you with his throws or his legs. I am not even sure he has legs i have never seen him run on 3rd and 6 on a pa pass when he has a wide open lane to get the first instead he throws it at the WRs feet. Orton is just an average Qb and he always will be
Bay I agree with your assessment of Ortons personality … its just the way he is … we are all built different. Orton will never make half time speaches, or inspire greatness out of his teammates by pumping them up ala Dawkins or TT but he will show up to work. Thats why he doesn’t connect with the fans. Someone from DP said, I can’t remember who, something like, If i was speaking as a journalist, TT will be my selection because out of all 3 he gives the best interviews with Orton being his list fave interview. He is just too professional for his own good … which is good considering he used to be a crazy party boy once upon a time. His wife musta tamed him lol.
http://youtu.be/p8N143GPXzM
Thats Mrs. Neckbeard for those that are curious lol
Ok!
Thats not what Im talking about anyway. My wanting Orton to be the man had no effect on the decision made by Fox and Elway. Just like the million who want the other QB.
That decision was made by the front office. Backing up my assessment and stand that Tebow was just plain not ready to start over Orton. Regardless of what Rodney Orton lacks. Its obvious THE OTHER QB lacks more. That was my point!
I think we know where you stand sndvl, LOL.
Thanks for the wife’s shot TRB, not bad…
i think we should name him Rodney “The Turtle” Orton. Because every time the pocket begins to collapse he pulls himself into his shell and goes down. Its kinda his signature move, just like Griese’s was to trip over the line of scrimmage every time he tried to scramble!
I’ll embelish my stand a little more too.
If The Peoples Choice is named the starting QB, I wont jump the BRONCOS ship like some are claiming!
Even after McD’s reign of chaos…as much as I was embarrased…I still never thought of anything like that!
we could be as bad as the Lions were 4 years ago and i STILL would wear my Orange and Blue proudly! Im a 3rd Gen fan, and not going anywhere!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea, I have watched last Saturdays game about 4 times now and specifically looked at where Dareus “sacked” Orton. Orton walked up to the offensive line and ran into the back of Walton and went straight down. That is what Orton needs to work on because that was by far probably Dareus’s easiest sack that he got credited for for probably his whole career! But Orton did look great in the game passing but he needs to work on not getting scared by a hit and just falling down!! We can all admit, no QB in the NFL does that better than him!!
That’s because he handles it as his job, all business and he is more interesting in going back to work the next day than taking a chance at getting hurt, hence the falling down quicker than pins in a bowling tournament, I’m so used to it so I don’t even get offended by it anymore, kind of sad really, but that’s what we got, gotta go with it and put those plays in the never remember part of our brains, LOL.
How about they make Orton chase a bunch of chickens around to improve his agility, a la Rocky Balboa? LOL!!!
Anyone got any spare tickets to the Raiders game they want to send me? I’d love to see the Broncos kick some Raider arse on my B-day!
ILMSDB…GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!
T-Bird
B-Day on opening day, wow, talk about a perfect birthday…
Anyway, there is a new blog with some out of this world pics of Lloyd catches.
So when did Orton break McGahee’s windshield on his Porsche?
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Willis-McGahee-8217-s-Porsche-pays-for-Kyle-Ort?urn=nfl-wp5871
A parking lot 10 ft away from the end zone? If I drove a Porsche it would not be parked within 100 yards of a practice field.
@baylin “Since we’ve been talking about Orton and that’s nice since we’re not talking about you know who, let’s face it Orton will always be the Rodney Dangerfield of football like sndvl said in the last blog, the guy who gets no respect.”
Actually, bay, Orton will be the Rodney Dangerfield until he has a better than .500 record as an NFL qb. What was he, 3-10 last year? Is he even at .250 over the last two years? No offense, he may be a great guy, and workmanlike, and all that stuff, but hey, with his record, you’re right, he won’t get any respect as an NFL qb, and won’t have the confidence of the fans. Let’s see how he does this year with a better Oline and a rushing game . . .
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d821b7218/article/fox-says-hell-prioritize-tebow-as-broncos-close-out-preseason?module=HP11_headline_stack
Alot of people have a difference of opinion about different players, just remember that we all cheer for the same team (the Broncos). We will cheer as loud as we can & drink alot of beer & go crazy even from home.
Bay, I don’t think you’re far off of your assessment of Orton … but there are other “bland” quarterbacks that are somewhat like him – Peyton M and Tom B come to mind … when was the last time either of those ran for 3rd and 6 if they weren’t really forced into it … like it or not, they’re not paid to do that … you’ve seen QBs that have done that and then they’re out for the year … you can say Orton holds back for himself, but he’s really doing it for the team … I know – it’s true that if Orton WAS asked to do that, he doesn’t have that skill set … I’d be surprised if he hasn’t always been coached that way … as for Manning, I know he does skads of commercials, and he’s actually kind of neat doing them, but his play is based on what he can do with his head and his arm, not very much with his legs … I just wish they’d make a Paul Hornung out of Tebow and get it over with … that would really add dimension to this team … why fight the Tebow at QB issue … I know, he WANTS to be QB – but I really think he would be a terrific multi-purpose halfback – didn’t Dan Reeves do that successfully?? … well – maybe that’s too far back for most of you …
Here you go guys…Do you trust “THIS MANS” opinion???http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l98Ss3SjGl8
