The Broncos were back in full pads for Thursday’s practice, and two more players returned to action.
ROLL CALL
Wide receiver Andre Caldwell and linebacker Nate Irving, both of whom suffered rib injuries against the Seattle Seahawks, were back on the practice field in full pads on Thursday.
Defensive end Jason Hunter (triceps), guard Chris Kuper (forearm), linebacker Keith Brooking (hamstring), linebacker Mike Mohamed (hamstring) and wide receiver Tyler Grisham (knee) did not participate in the session.
Defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson (concussion), “was out here, but he was not full-contact,” Head Coach John Fox said.
Safety Jim Leonhard was not in full pads, but participated in portions of practice. Brooking and Mohamed were on the field in shorts, taking in the session from the sideline.
PLAYMAKERS
- During one-on-ones between receivers and cornerbacks, Champ Bailey slapped the ball out of Demaryius Thomas’ hands on back-to-back reps to force incompletions in the end zone.
- Other standouts from the one-on-one session included cornerback Chris Harris, who had a nice pass breakup, cornerback Tracy Porter, who jammed wide receivers Brandon Stokley and Matthew Willis at the line and prevented completions and wide receiver Jason Hill, who caught a couple touchdowns.
- Defensive end Jeremy Beal notched a sack after fellow defensive lineman Robert Ayers flushed quarterback Brock Osweiler out of the pocket during team drills. Ayers had a sack of his own later in practice.
- Linebacker Wesley Woodyard made two big tackles during 9-on-7 drills, first meeting Moreno in the hole and second chasing him down on the sideline.
- Kicker Matt Prater hit a 60-yard field goal late in practice during a drill.
QUICK HIT
During the first red-zone drill of practice, Manning hit Stokley, Decker and tight end Joel Dreessen for touchdowns, while the defense prevented a score on the other three reps. Afterward, Head Coach John Fox rallied the defensive sideline, telling players that the bar should be set higher than winning 50 percent of the reps.

We should Take a page out of lance Balls book…and DROP the Ball!!!
LMAO!!!! Perfectly said DO
I’m bummed that they’re limited in what they can tell us, but I am really excited about SUNDAY!!!!!!!!! It’s almost here people… the only real meaningful preseason game. Hope that we put a lot of pressure on Alex Smith, come on WolfeVonDoom!!
I love that Champ is getting a ton of pass breakups this off season. He’s still playing at such a high level.
Nicely done Mr. Prater. It is only practice, but I hope that Fox will let him try to beat the record if we’re up on Oakland or San Diego at the end of a game.
Sunday almost feels like a regular season game I’m so PUMPED!!!
Can’t wait for Sunday. I live in Arizona so I’ve only been able to watch the other two games from internet streams and they are choppy and don’t have very good resolution but Sunday they will be showing the game on Fox. Also I think the 49ers will be the best test this pre-season to see where some of the guys are at.
Yep I’m ready to see Porter earn his #2 cb spot and see wolfe move the line.
I am BEYOND excited about this! TOO cool:

I was watching Sportsnation last night, maybe it was a rerun, but Colin is the maan!!! he gave the Broncos a rating of 8-10 to make the playoffs.. I liked his explanation. We have the BEST QB in the division, One of the THE BEST PASS RUSHING TANDEMS on defense, a well-established COACH who knows that running the ball is key, and my favorite, arguably THE BEST KICKER in the NFL!!!!!
Broncos20 that’s awesome! We are kind of stacked huh? Be jealous AFC!
New blog
I like that Cat. ‘be jealous’…yeeah! aha
Good to see we were back in pads today. Was wondering of John Fox was running a country club out there…. Lol
As we’re getting closer ansd closer to the start of the regular season, it’s going to be VERY interesting to see how we trim our roster down at several positions!!
