The Denver Broncos returned to the practice field Monday morning for their first post-training camp practice and to prepare for their third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks Saturday evening.
ROLL CALL
Ty Warren, Marcus Thomas, Demaryius Thomas, Richard Quinn, Stanley Daniels and linebacker Mario Haggan sat out practice. Haggan injured his shoulder Saturday. Safety David Bruton, who suffered a concussion Saturday, did not practice.
Daniel Fells (lower leg) and Brian Dawkins (ankle tendonitis) were “nicked” at practice, Head Coach John Fox said.
DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS
Cornerback Cassius Vaughn had the lone interception on the day during team drills, picking off a pass from Brady Quinn around midfield and returning it for a score.

Earlier in the day, the defensive backs also worked on one-on-one coverage and safety Rahim Moore made a jumping play to swat a deep ball away from receiver Greg Orton.

QUICK HITS
After the horn blew to signal the end of individual drills, Tebow ran a short route to the front cone of the end zone and just missed a one-handed grab thrown by Quinn. As Fox was walking over to the sideline he shouted, “Come on Tebow,” and proceeded to give him a smile and fist bump.
Running back C.J. Gable had a nice scamper that included a quick juke move in the secondary to which drew Oohs, Aahs and hollers from the offensive sideline.

Receiver Britt Davis reached over the head of Vaughn to haul in a nice catch, and also drew praise from Wide Receivers Coach Tyke Tolbert after making a block during a running play.
Receiver Brandon Lloyd worked with kicker Matt Prater and punter Britton Colquitt on punting on the side field during special teams sessions. Lloyd actually got a 50-yard punt to stop on the 1-yard line.

Also during the last special teams sessions, running back Willis McGahee did sprints on the side.

So no single mention of Tebow passing but off him runnign a route? lol … ill be so blown if analyst were right and Tebow ends up a TE. (Just joking people, im sure they were just having a bit of fun).
I liked Vaughn last game … wasn’t impressed in the first game. I can’t see him as a shutdown corner (one that deflects passes, rarely gets INTs but never lets receiver catch) but I can see him as a Playmaking CB (a ballhawk who may get beat at times but once he INT it, he can take it to the house) … he has the speed for that but not the hands as his dropped INT agaisnt buffalo would state. But he spent all last year on special teams not taking any reps so it will take him a while to get better. I hope he still returns this year. That KR against SD last game was pheonomenal. But now that KR is outlawed does it really matter? lol
TRB
Yeah Cox and Anderson did the punt returning duties and who cares about KO returns anymore, LOL.
McGahee doing sprints the whole time, definitely a bit out of shape and trying to turn that around. Seems like I’m hearing more about Britt Davis and less about Willis, hopefully that means nothing and Willis will earn a well deserved spot on the squad. C.J. Gable turning heads??? Please show us in a game.
Same old same old for BQ. Only INT of the practice. Way, way to many instances of almost/should have/actual INTs against BQ. He’s a poor backup at best, but Tebow still had long, long way to become the type of QB Fox wants.
In acuality, he’ll never be the type of QB Fox wants. What remains to be seen is if Tebow can refine his QB skills enough that when the time comes we’ll have refined them enough to be a highly mobile QB who’ll throw first and run only if no other option is open to him rather than a QB who’ll take of at a moments notice. Tebow lovers, think about how many years it took Steve Young to become the total QB he evolved into. BE PATIENT!!!
45YEARBRONCOFANSTILLONSTRIKE!!!
And really, really getting amped up over the Broncos continuing improvements.
Lets just move Tebow to tightend and then everyone will be happy and the drama will be over. lol
I hope Davis and Willis both make the team as they both look good in camp and preseason.
Havnt heard much of Joe Mays this preseason.
I disagree that BQ is a poor back up. I think there are many teams out there that would have him as a solid #2 any day. Not saying he is at a starter level, but he has shown good improvement with his off season work. If he can keep growing, he could possibly be starter quality. As for Tebow…I don’t know what to say. Best of luck either way..
Mays made some plays in both games but few and far between, Haggan might have had the inside track, looked good Saturday, but now he has the shoulder injury so Irving will fight Mays for the spot for now, but haven’t seen much of him either other than a good tackle inside when he held onto the guy high til he was down Saturday. But Haggan will probably beat them both when he is back, just from what I’ve seen.
That’s the best kind:
“As for Tebow…I don’t know what to say.”
And very rare, LMAO!
Not a very successful supplemental draft:
Terrelle Pryor was only player selected today. No other players were drafted; those players are now free to sign with any team.
I agree southstander, I said the same thing about Quinn always throwing INTs are practice. For a guy who they say looks so good at practice, he always has at least 1 INT.
But I also agree with the Otheredge, he is servicable as a backup and many teams would happily take him as a 2nd stringer to push thier starter for a job. He is still young too. the problem is we have 1 guy thats a starter and 2 guys that are 2nd string quality with enough upside to push for 1st string on most teams without an Established Manning, or Brady type QB.
I also agree, Tebow will never be a Fox kinda QB. Just not his game, and I think changing him or trying to is what will slow down his progress. He needs a staff that likes him as is and is willing to work with him. Tebow can never be a jake delhome or a Orton, just not his game, and assuming it is even possible for him to change his game, it will take years to change what he has been doing for like the last 22 years of his life. Tebow can work as is, the staff just wants him to be something else and since they didn’t get him, its understandable.
lmao … only the raiders would be happy to give up a pick.
I just got mentioning how the Raiders hardly ever have any picks left come draft day:
For their 2nd, 3rd and 4th-rd pick in 2012, Raiders now have QB Jason Campbell, QB Terrelle Pryor, RB Taiwan Jones and OL Joseph Barksdale.
Hahahahahaha!!!!
I dont know if this has been said but WOW that hit Moore put on that receiver in the game is how football should be played. it reminded me of Atwater a little
I think that both the Chiefs and Raiders will take a step back this season. I think the Broncos could actually surprise. That said, as much as it pains me to say it, I think the Chargers will rebound and win the AFC West.
Alfred Williams during the game said the Chargers will win the division with like 12 games and we would finish like with double digits wins (10)!
Bottom line is if we go from 4 wins to 10 we definitely have ourselves some geniuses in EFX.
But there is still no way I can see 10 wins on that schedule of ours, third hardest in the league may I add…
Wow so all they got next year is a 1st round pick … those guys have issues.
I believe we can end 2nd in the division but like it has already been stated, our schedule is brutal, especially if the teams remain as good as they were last year or possibly better. Da only way we go 10 – 6 is if we sweep the raiders & chiefs, and split with Chargers … Doable, but asking alot lol.
I will fall over if Tebow is here next year! That kid is as good as already traded!
Bay, you may have posted this article earlier. It basically stated the following:
Why would anyone in this organization have a vested interest in Tebow? No one besides Pat is still here from the staff that drafted him!
I agree totally! Actually I don’t think you will hardly EVER see Tebow play. Right now, the national media is doing a fairly nice job of drumming up this “Tebow is falling in depth” tune!
I believe this organization knows it has some trade power in Tim. A kid that could make it with a staff that is “willing” to develope him. THIS staff didn’t sign up for that job!
If you put him on the field you run the risk of proving to the other 31 NFL teams that Tebow might never be able to play the position. Why not keep the lid on and play the “He’s learing and working at his craft” card? Come draft day, let the other 31 teams figure out if he’s ready. I wouldn’t necessarily give the other teams a sneak peak preview.
I guess all I’m saying is, I think that this organization isn’t “willing” to give the keys to Tebow, EVER! Maybe there was a time when it was possible. We put Kyle out there on the trade block, but that was also before camp. Before they could “see” where Tim was at and how Kyle has progressed.
So here we are through camp and through 2 preseason games and in all fairness given that the Broncos have a new coaching staff, all 3 QB’s have been evaluated. Now I’m wondering how many times the question has been raised behind closed doors of “What do you think we can get for him?”
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
I believe Alfred Williams was also calling Daniel Fells, Brandon Lloyd during the game – and I think i heard him mis-pronounce Eric Decker’s name a time or two during the game as well..(not to mention when he threw a shout-out to Knowshon when it was Jeremiah Johnson running the ball). So I don’t know how much weight I would give his 10 win season prediction! But if it happens, I will take it.
(Not to be pessimistic, but I see 7-9 unfortunately.)
Does anyone else here doing there blogs want to see what Adam Weber can do in a game. Maybe they alrighty waived him & I didn’t know. Will someone tell me if he is still with the team or not. Thanks.
Ok is it just me or did it look like Orton ran into the back of Walton and fall down with Dareus falling on tip of him? I have watched it over and over again just to make sure my eyes were not decieving me and I do not think they were. His pocket came in on him a litte to his right but did not collapse and he took off running into the back of Walton an fell. I guess he was trying to imitate Tebow but did a poor job at it.
I think they know they have something in weber also, Im thinking their playing Orton and Quinn for trade bate and Tebow will start next yr with weber as back up, grabbing us a couple seconds and a third for Orton and brady just my thoughts.
Mikeyb….I remember that play. Props to Dareus who collapsed the pocket. Remember he has a grudge against us for not picking him. Orton also was looking down just one receiver immediately and failed to keep his eyes downfield on that play….going through his progression. Total lapse of reason. I remember thinking how the Orton haters would be all over that!!!! Watch it again….you’ll see what I mean.
I hope that if becomes obvious that TT can’t make it as a QB that the Broncos remember some football history and think about a ND Heissman winning QB who became a HOF RB. I really think that going the route of Paul Horung is a possible route for TT to have a very successful pro career.
He’s just to great a competitor to not be able to be successful at some phase of pro football.
45YEARBRONCOFANSTILLONSTRIKE!!!!
Sure their playing Orton and Quinn for trade bait. You really think that Elway is that dumb. He’s playing the best he’s got at every position. And, didn’t Tebow get sacked? He didn’t look very good Saturday. I didn’t see him go thru his progressions at all. Total panic as usual. Looking to run.
Yeah, the NFL game is going way too fast for Tebow right now, it’s painfully obvious when you see him operate, it’s like he even locks onto his first option receiver before the ball is even snapped and if that doesn’t work out, you see nothing but helter skelter, he might be great one day in this league but that day isn’t now or anytime soon. They keep saying how he is improving but to be frank I haven’t seen it, that tells me he must of been awful in the first week of camp.
Browns reached agreement with OT Joe Thomas on a 7-year, $84 million extension with roughly $44 million guaranteed.
I bet Clady is salivating, LOL.
QQ? I don’t know. They all look good right now so I dont care. And I am excited about the new look D and running game. Miller and doom, say no more. lmsdb
Here we go, Broncos! Here we go!
fox did the same with panthers never new talent when it was his second or third string never new a winner ,(FOX )TEBOW IS A WINNER just as ELWAY check his stat his first year . ORTON is afraid to take chances and is not a winner and has been around forever think he should be more defined than a 1 year bench guy IDIOT
You gotta love the Tebow fans tenacity.
baylinorcrush you are right. A smart quarterback throws the ball away rather than throwing into double coverage and a Tebow fan says “he is afraid to take chances”. If he threw the pick instead, then they’d throw him under the bus. Can’t win this arguement.
can’t released riichard quinn take nate jones with him?
just askin’
First off Tebow got sacked with a whack offensive line, even the analyst at NFLnetwork said it in the highlights. And u say he didn’t look very good on Saturday? he barely played on saturday. He had a nice accurate throw that rosario dropped. He put it in the only position that he could get it. B lloyd woulda caught that, like he often does to bail out Orton.
I don’t think the game is too fast for him, he did well enough last season, with a weaker team in the last 3 games. Was he perfect. no. He is far from it, but to say the game is to fast for him, I personally think is false. He can and will make it as a QB, not a RB, not a TE. He won’t change his position for anybody. He has been fighting to be a QB since his early years when people said he couldnt be QB but could play another position. Its QB or nothing for Tebow I believe. He will do other stuff just because he is a team guy but he will not outrightly change his position.
Orton is the clear best right now … no believer of Tebow will deny that. He can play at NFL speed, he already has.
He can play at NFL speed when he plays the way he wants to, improvising on the fly, but he can’t play with the NFL speed when he is told what to do and to stay in the pocket and follow his reads, that much is painfully obvious, and that brings back the fact that he should be with a team that will build around him, not one that wants to make him fit in, like this one, right or wrong that’s why Tebow is temporarily at a dead end in Denver. But I’m sick and tired of re-hashing this Tebow thing to death.
That 3rd string offensive line is going against a 3 rd string defense. That argument is tired.
Right bay. The door is closed on Tebow’s opportunity this year. Thus ends the QQ? Not such a quagmire now is it?
Oh ok .. thx for clarifying … that i agree with cuz I said the same thing in the 3:22 post … I was just shocked to see u make what seemed to be a full on flip flop. I was starting to think, man how quickly people turn on him, which would be sad because I remember people saying, if Tebow was to start and suck, people would completely turn on him and didn’t believe it.
Raiders reportedly wanna use, Terrelle Pryor as a WR. Which pretty much goes hand in hand with my 2:20 post on last blog. TRB
LMAO at just about all posts tonight!
thank god my take on trade bait really cought some eyes, you guys are rt their not that dum so why do you guys always question all their moves? Transperency is still here theved told you since fox was hired and Elway was at the superbowl that Kyle Orton was the starter. It doesnt matter what happens you wanna be coaches and have nothing better to do with your lives andwill say something negative about it. Be a loyal fan shut your traps and be patient with their decisions. Tebow will be our starter next yr, but he should of been practicing the small things to better himself, Instead of making a book, doing underwear commercials and thinking about endoursments instead of thinking orton was going to be traded. Our broncos can make the play offs and all you wanna be coaches and non believers go root for someone else and let the owners and coaches do their damn jobs.
Earlier this evening on ESPN NEWS it`s been reported that Tim Tebow is in the Broncos plans and that he will not be cut or traded. SO THERE`S THAT!! GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JOHN ELWAY SAID IT HIMSELF!!!!!! TEBOWS STAYING A DENVER BRONCO!!!!!!
I don’t think anyone really thinks that they WANT to trade Tebow at least i hope not. The thought however is, IF they don’t want him as a QB, they should trade him somewhere else there by saving them 6mil for a 3rd string QB and giving him a chance elsewhere with people who chose to trade for him instead of people who inherited him. Im sure they will still use him in some packages, kinda how the Bills used Brad Johnson (I think thats his name). They have practiced that in TC and Practice i believe.
and for the record, millertime, Tebow did spend all offseason training on the little things such as taking snaps from under center and his drops and footwork … He even made some of the Bdawk training not as much as im sure he woulda liked to but that was more conditioning, than “the little things” … What he needed was what he couldn’t have to no fault of his own, which is an entire offseason in camp with his proper coaches and staff teaching him the little things. Lockout kinda did him in, at leas we know there won’t be one next year.
Either the Bears suck, or they just don’t wanna “reveal” anything in preseason lol.
Here is a very interesting article about the QQ. Some very interesting stuff like Orton helping Tebow with the mechanics and throwing motion and also Tebow has the highest passer rating through preseason.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d821a5ba3/article/whos-no-2-tebow-quinn-in-fight-to-see-who-backs-up-orton
So i guess the only trendy topic to talk about is Tebow Talk right?…
Heres my stance on the whole Tebow drama. I definitely don’t think that they are going to trade or release Tebow, that would just be completely stupid plain and simple. Hey lets cut our 1st round pick from last year without watching him play in a game thats a great idea. Even the Raiders wouldn’t do something that stupid. And for everyone saying that Fox and Elway didn’t draft Tebow and he’s not their project, the organization they are in drafted him in the first round last year and I think that he at least deserves a shot whether or not you think he’s going to be good or not. At least that’s the logical thing to do, which is why I think thats what EFX are thinking. Ever since the media made up that Tebow’s the 3rd qb on the depth chart, people are just saying oh hes gone. I don’t get that at all, thats completely ignorant. Even if Fox would have said that, it doesn’t mean Tebow’s going to be traded or cut.
AND!
Elway publically announced that Orton was up for trade. Elway also publically said (today) that Tebow will not be traded.
I said Tebow 7 times in this post.
Yea I read that too Mikey, about Orton helping with Mechanics and what not, looks like Orton officially no longer feels threatened so now he can help Tebow. Cuz last 3 games last year people say he was pouting on the sidelines, and for the most part ever since then, they make it seem like they never talk. Altho in all fairness, Orton probably wouldn’t have anything against the kid if it wasn’t for the media and the fans love for him, not to mention the fans being all too happy and eager to have him replaced. When someone talks about someone alot and acts like u are invisible, its easy to not like em lol. Well at least Brady Quinn is getting a fair shake this year. Denver was supposed to be a chance to resurge his career before McD drafted Tebow and he became the forgotten (altho with last years preseason performance, it was kinda waranted). He handled it like a champ tho. TRB
I know it ain’t time to make predictions yet. But I think we are gonna be a 10-6 team this year.
oakland, cincinati, @tennessee, @green bay, SD, @miami, Detroitm @oakland, @kc, NYJ, @SD, @minnesota, chi, NE, @Buf, KC.
I mean, GB, NE and the jets will be tough. the Chi game should be good. Division games are always tough. But outside of that I see no reason we can;t win a lot of games. I mean Cin should be struggling, Miami is not elite, Detroit … stafford will probably be injured by then and fairley is already in a walkling boot.
I am holding out hope for a ten win season. Go broncos!
Richard Quinn to be cut/IR
Definitely called that one. So Fox isn’t going to stick with the 2 blocking tight end formation that got him 2 wins last year? Shocking. Glad Fox wised up and dumped yet another McDaniels mistake.
Give me Green, Thomas, and Fells. Thank you
^^^
Another reason why depth charts in pre season are basically pointless until at least week 3.
2nd string tight end cut. (not just because of injury, because he basically can’t do anything but moderately block) Not nearly considered about losing him as I was about losing Barrett last year.
Thomas who is basically our 5th on the depth chart gets 1st team reps. Atta Boy
I’ve been shying away from the blogs because of the Tebow fiasco. Its tough to listen to the same thing day after day. Still haven’t seen the 2nd preseason game (had to work during the replay on NFL network) but I am anxious to see our performance
