Prepping for Free Agency

February 17th, 2012 - 10:16am by Gray Caldwell

The NFL Scouting Combine is just around the corner, but the Broncos front office is also hard at work preparing for the free agent market.

Free agency begins on March 13, and General Manager Brian Xanders said Denver has a plan on how to attack the signing period.

“We plan to be aggressive and smart at the same time and try to get some good signings in here, some valued signings that help contribute to wins,” Xanders said. “We also have to address signing our own unrestricted free agents, and we also have the free agency market. So we will have a plan for that. We have a long term vision, too.”

The team’s list of potential unrestricted free agents is as follows:

LS David Binn
DT Brodrick Bunkey
S Brian Dawkins
TE Daniel Fells
LB Mario Haggan
DE Derrick Harvey
OL Russ Hochstein
DE Jason Hunter
FB Spencer Larsen
LB Joe Mays
K Matt Prater
QB Brady Quinn
G Manny Ramirez
TE Dante Rosario
WR Eddie Royal
DT Marcus Thomas
CB Jonathan Wilhite
LB Wesley Woodyard

At his end-of-season press conference, Xanders was asked if the Broncos have more room under the salary cap to make transactions than most NFL franchises.

“That’s fair to say,” he said. “(Owner/CEO) Pat Bowlen is a committed owner, a very aggressive owner. I think this year we spent 98 percent to our cash budget. We have always been on the aggressive side there.”

That sounds like a pro-bowl line up, If history repeats its self we could very well be going to the show. Fox took a 2-14 team to the super bowl in 2yrs with the panthers. I say their going to blow up FA this season, they played it safe last yr, AFC West is ours this yr FO-SHO

Getting Avril and Poe alone makes our D all the more dangerous this year. Thats a scary lineup.

    My bronco FA wishlist
Ryan Grant OR Marshawn Lynch RB
    Le’Ron McClain FB
Jermichael Finley OR Fred Davis TE
    Dwayne Bowe WR
    Jared Gaither OT
Ben Grubbs OR Carl Nicks OG
    Calais Cambell OR Cliff Avril
Curtis Lofton OR D’Qwell Jackson LB
Brandon Carr OR Aaron Ross CB

I would say Flynn to motivate Tebow but he will be picked up by a team who needs a QB and as for Mario Williams I would love to see him in a Bronco Uniform but I dont think Kubiak and the rest of the FO for Huston will let him leave. I also thing that the should think about a trade for Asante Samuel. We need a upgrade for Goodman. I swear the last two years any big pass play Goodman was the one who was supposed to cover.

    Resign
    Bunkley DT
    Dawkins S
    Hunter DE
    Mays LB
    Prater K
    Royal WR
    Woodyard LB

    My Draft

It all depends on who is available at that pick and who we signed in FA for the lower rounds a pick that fell a down the board to the following round would be a nice choice.

    Round 1
i would love for Quinton Coples To fall to 25 but i doubt he will.
So Fletcher Cox, Jarel Worthy, or Zach Brown.

@alaskanbronco06 i love the idea of James Micheal Johnson in the 5th round, and we really need to resign prater, hes a beast

I watched every Lions game this year and Cliff Avril to me is just a system guy. Without Suh and Corey Williams in the middle he wouldn’t have had the year that he had. He is a solid DE but wouldn’t be much of an upgrade from Ayers IMO. On my wish list is Vontaze Burfict. This guy is just what the Broncos need in the middle.
