Matt Prater’s performance against the Chicago Bears — including a 59-yard field goal to tie the game and send it to overtime, and a 51-yard game-winner in the extra frame — has earned plenty of fanfare.
It made Broncos TV’s Top 10 plays of the season, the Chicago comeback as a whole won the GMC Never-Say-Never Moment of the Year, and last night Prater took home yet another award.
His two clutch, 50-plus-yard kicks were nominated for the Top Professional Moment in the Denver Sports Top 9 Moments, presented by Bank of the West. The moments are designed to celebrate the best of sports in Colorado from 2011.
In an awards ceremony held downtown at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on March 1, Prater took home the award ahead of teammate Tim Tebow’s 20-yard, game-winning touchdown run against the New York Jets, and Colorado Rockies slugger Jason Giambi’s three-home run, seven-RBI performance against the Phillies.
Prater wasn’t in attendance to accept the award, so his holder — punter Britton Colquitt — did so on his behalf.

alaskan……..do you currently live in alaska or just originally from there?
Or…John can hold the trophy up and announce “This ones for Pat!”…
Broncos Country Strong 2012!
Hillis, Carr or Mario….any of those 3 and I’ll be content!
I think Bowlen will be more open to trusting what JE wants to do with his money.
Whats up Kod. Do you think Bowlen opens his wallet this year. I could sure use us some Super Mario.
hey CB………
I think last years playoff appearance coupled with a post season win and bowlen’s close relationship with JE will make bowlen open his wallet a little. I think our team is building something here and JE will convince bowlen that the organization needs to spend some money to attain some important pieces.
Sndvl … my only request are Laron Landry and number 1 … Brandon Carr. Thats all I want … but liek you i will be happy with those guys u mentioned as well … the crazy thing is we can get em all and still have space for rookies. We can … but will we.
Thanks for the new RBF1 … ninja style as usual lol.
Later days, TRB
This is the first time since i became a fan i can say i feel like we are heading in a direction that doesnt cause me to wonder. Im very exited for free angency (next week) and if we can continue to pick up players of Mcgahee and bunkley’s caliber than we are well on our way to a routine playoff apperance. Tebows getting his reps and come April 16th (correct me if im wrong) without a doubt he will be the first one trough the facility doors.
Lets get some Beef!
Rbf1, If the Eagles take a DT then my hope might come true … that they trade to 25 to get hightower if he gets past steelers … on the downside steelers are expected to get ILB, DT or G … so if philly takes DT and Cowboys take G, its possible that the steelers take ILB or DT in which case less DTs are expected to fall to us now lol … and it that were to happen, we may have to trade back …. not unless cowboys not picking Kirkpatrick means he falls to us. Can’t wait for FA … some of these scenarios will get clearer … just one more week till it begins.
TRB
Apparently they are trying to get Tebow for “The Bachelor” … seriously … can they just let the man focus on football. I understand the man is big business and everyone wnats a piece but sheesh. Altho i won’t lie … never watched the Bachelor a day in my life and if he is on it i probably would … which is their goal … to get new viewers that wouldn’t watch otherwise and tap into the Tebow/Bronco fan pool. I just wanna hear more stories of him practicing or hanging with peyton or Rodgers or Brady … or throwing passes to Decker and DT etc.
TRB
walter has us getting Phillip Blake in the 5th round … he just opened up the 5th round … I hope so. He is a great value C that helped protect RG3. I had him on my earlier mocks as a 4th round pick but thnx to the rams we have an early 5th round pick that could be used … walton sucks and so does beadles. Hope we can make it happen. TRB
For the people confused on how many picks we have, this was a post i made like 4 days back:
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_20082041
Numbers are Tallied .. the Broncos only have 6 picks in the draft … 6 picks … because McDs mistakes still come back to haunt us.
We lost our 6th to the eagles for Joe Mays (fair enough) and we lost our fifth for … wait for it … Brady freaking Quinn. Unfreakingbelievable … so there you go Bronco fans. One pick in each round except the 6th. Our fifth round pick comes from the rams trade, luckily its a high pick too.
We also lost a 5th in 2013 for Bunkley. Fair enough as well.
rnd1 – #25
rnd2 – #57
rnd3 – #89
rnd4 – #122
rnd5 – #135 (Rams pick via Brandon Lloyd trade)
rnd7 – #227
TRB
next think Trump will be trying to get TT on the celebrity apprentice! haha
I just read on IMDB that Tebow has declined the invite for the bachelor.
TT needs to decline anything that doesn’t involve getting better at being our QB. We all know he needs a lot of work!
Jason La Canfora:
While safety is a position of strength in this free agent class, nose tackle is anything but. Paul Soliai is a year removed from being franchised by Miami and is coming off an outstanding 2011 season. He is by far the best 3-4 defensive tackle available, but he could also fit in a 4-3 front. (He can generate plenty of push from the interior.) The Dolphins, by not franchising him two years in a row, are almost assured of losing him. I can’t help but think John Fox would love to see this guy continue to beef up his defense in Denver and the Broncos have plenty of cap room.
There’s the beef! Go Broncos!
Phillip Blake from Baylor is like 320 lbs. Talk about some beef! If that actually happens, we’d have two former Baylor Centers on the Team.
Yeah TRB, it Kirkpatrick falls, that would be awesome. I think that Still or Worthy will be on the board though.
Think the Steelers would consider Huskies NT Alameda Ta’amu…?
Only seven more days to F/A…
Kirkpatrick should be the first option of he does fall, and we get a DT in the 2nd rd.
I live here in Alaska Killer.
Man a lot of talk going on.
Williams and Carr are the only to real big money takers i want this year.
right on alaskan……….I lived in the high arctic of the NWT and also visited the Yukon. Would’ve loved to have gotten over to Alaska.
Those 7 days cant come fast enough, Soliai is one of the top 3 free agents i want Denver to at least look at. Im sure they are looking at everyone but more emphasis should be with him. My top defensive FA’s in order by position –
DT – Soliai then Garay ( both young and have tons of potential )
LB -Super Mario but thats a stretch… I would love to see Farrior as a situational LB with Mays ( if he comes back)
CB – Carr and Finnegan, i dont see Titans leaving Finnegan but hes worth a look
Saftey – Landry or Decoud. Both would be improvments.
Im like a kid at christmas every year i get so exited and anyone of those players would make a large improvement. not to mention make me a very happy camper.
Finnegan wont be returning to the Titans they havmt even made him an offer or had any contract talks.
Decoud has be resigned unfortunately. I liked him.
Williams isnt a stretch. Only issue will be how much are they willing to spend. Williams is the only player they should really open the wallet for. Williams has also mentioned want to play for Fox and JDR and go back to a 4-3 DE. I just want to see some talks between Williams and Denver at least.
I like Soliai he would be a boost on the D and would really affect the draft.
I want to see a vet LB to improve Irving.
Steelers need youth at NT and ILB.. that will be interesting to see what they do with their pick.
TRB – you’re saying Eagles may possibly trade back and still get who they want and trade slot for additional picks? (this year or next?).
I might have missed your scenario…
RBF1, I think he was saying if they grab a DT then they will trade up to 25 to grab Hightower if he gets past the Steelers. Which i think he will. The Eagles have two 2nd round picks….
Getting Mario would be HUGE!!!! Poor Ayers would get demoted though. I thought he did pretty well this year. Ayers and Moreno were both skating on thin ice as far as I”m concerned coming into last season. Both were very high draft picks that had not produced at a high level. Moreno did get hurt but even before that he wasn’t showing me that he was the #12 pick in the draft, he had some flashes but way to inconsistent. Ayers on the other hand turned it on this year and finished very strong against Pitt. OF course Mario is an upgrade over Ayers and I would welcome it with open arms. But I also do feel that there are greater needs than replacing Ayers who is playing pretty darn good and will only get better. Not sayn I don’t want Mario, just sayn. LOL
Ok thanks alaskan! I see now.
Yea, i was always a fan of Ayers but up untill this year i was not convinced. He will only get better and with the addition of Mario it would only add fuel to his fire.
Ayers was good……at the end of the season. He would be good subbing in. But i dont think he is a starter.
Moreno should be attempted to be traded. His injuries have plagued Denver big time. Let him be gone to another team. Goody should be attempted to be traded but its a huge doubt that anyone will take him so he should be cut.
RBF1, Your welcome. I have spoke about that trade to the Eagles a couple times. I actually have it occurring in my latest mock.
Thanx for explaining Alaskan. Rbf1 its as alaskan says … thats the scenario i was refering too … MLB is without a doubt a need of thiers so if they pass or miss one wih thier first pick they may have to trade back in for hightower cuz i dont think he will make it to them. IMO
Thx for the info imready … never thought about Dolphins DT as an option but hearing it coming from LaCanfora … im intrigued … he is no spring chicken but Soliai could be nice addition. That would ake our two starting DTs Soliai and Bunkley both 28 … if they get them. Could go younger but thats fine to … nothing like gauranteed talent. Plus will let us to more with our picks … I just hope we are really aggressive in FA … for the big dogs not the small frys cuz that will limit our Draft needs.
PS: Finnegan will probably be a ram. Fisher has been rumored to want to bring him in being his ex HC. And im sure a dirty player like him will enjoy playing in williams bounty system ZING!!! lol … assuming they retain williams which i doubt. More baggage than he is worth.
TRB
And he may be suspended/banned leaving ST.Louis with no choice.
Manning and the Colts are looking to redo Mannings deal!!!! I wish Manning to stay in Indy.
I also think the Steelers wont take Hightower cause hes a little bigger. Pitt and Tomlin like smaller LBs. I think they will take someone in a later round. So i think Hightower will fall to 25. So if the Eagles dont get Kuechly i think they will trade back up.
I also think any team with a later first who wants a WR will be interested to trade up. Theres a handful or good WR who will roughly be available there but teams will want first pick. Texans at 26 have a need for a WR.
Better than manning in indianapolis than possibly in KC … that would be a nightmare situation. He deserves to retire a colt an dif he has any major injury his heir apaprent will be right there waiting. Im sure luck can start from day one but theres nothing like learnign behind a legend like Manning … i mean the guy knows the game to the T. Watchign film, reading defense, etc. Thats lucks best chance to succeed. And indianapolis having thier cake and eating it too … its not often u have a legend for a QB and still get the first overall pick to draft his heir.
TRB
TRB my thought too. He has shown he can throw. Is a few throws but he still can. Luck will do well to sit behind Manning and learn. I think thats why they want a deal done. I hope Manning is more than willing.
No kiddin imready… Solai listed at 355lbs!
Veteran wide receiver Randy Moss worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday — his first since saying he was done being retired — and an initial report suggest it went very well.
Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer took to Twitter to report that Moss lit it up during his workout in which he ran about 45 pass routes and “looked like the old Randy,” according to multiple sources.
The performance, as reported, seems to support earlier claims by Moss that he was in great shape and had recently run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash after sitting out the 2011 season.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported multiple teams are interested in Moss. In addition to the workout with the Saints he has at least one team visit set up for next week.
After a forgettable display with the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans in 2010, Tuesday’s workout could be the first sign an early market will form for Moss.
The mans a legend … hate him or love him. Which is why I was infavor of a vet like him.
TRB
If we get him and WIlliams OMG That line would be deadly……
alaskan, so your hypothetical trade has us giving up the #25 spot to the Eagles in exchange for an extra 2nd rd pick….interesting.
Both second round picks from the Eagles. 46 and 51.
So, I may have missed it. But who would you want to get with the 46th, 51st, and 57th pick Alaskan?
I like the idea, but to me that would mean we have to make some big moves in FA!
Well we could grab Reyes a DT from UCONN who i believe to be very underrated. Doug Martin. and a CB like Boykin.
That doesnt mean we would have to do any more in FA than we should do now.
True alaskan! I like Reyes too but you we could use a big impact player. And “usually” you have to draft one in the first round.
Endless scenarios.
Reyes is a big impact player. I dont know why he isnt rated in the 1st round because he is a first round talent. He is very underrated.
Colts are cutting Manning. Not shocking, but big news…
Where did you hear that? Last i heard they were re working his contract.
It’s breaking news right now, they’re cutting him mañana
Dang that really sucks.
