Practice Squad Additions

December 24th, 2008 - 12:38pm by Adam Zinser

The Broncos have added a pair of players to the practice squad, Head Coach Mike Shanahan has just announced.

Running back Steve Baylark is back with the squad after spending a week with the team from December 10-17 before being waived.

Baylark entered the NFL with the Cardinals in 2007 as a college free agent from the University of Massachusetts, where he became just the third Division I-AA player to post four 1,000-yard rushing seasons. A second-team All-American as a senior at UMass, he finished his collegiate career with 1,080 rushes for 5,199 yards with 42 touchdowns.

New to the practice squad is wide receiver Matt Willis. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound receiver began this season on Baltimore’s practice squad before he was waived on Sept. 16. He saw time on both the Ravens’ practice squad and active roster as a rookie in 2007, appearing in five games for the year and totaling one catch for 11 yards along with two special-teams tackles.

The Ravens signed Willis in 2007 as a college free agent from UCLA, where he played two seasons of football after competing on the Bruins’ track team. He played 21 career games at UCLA, posting 24 receptions for 248 yards with three touchdowns.

And linebacker Tyson Smith, who has been on the practice squad for the last seven weeks, was signed to the Washington Redskins’ active roster.

Way to show support for your team Bronx. Were on like out 20th rb or some ridiculous number. We are getting some of our young players invaluable playing time, and readying ourlselves for a run the next 2-3 years. Even shanny says it would be nice to make the playoffs just so the young guys can experience it, he knows they have additions/improvements to make. Like a pass rush. We cant beat S.D. this weekend we dont deserve to be in the playoffs this year.

What is the deal with free agency for us anyways? where has all of our cap room gone? we never sign decent players, only cut them? Maybe we should cut bly and sign someone from american idol? sure would be cheaper, and heaven knows, not any worse! lol GO BRONCOS!

  6. BroncoBoyest95 says:

u build a team through the draft not through free agents (look at the jets)

  7. BroncoBoyest95 says:

    Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas this year is a BRONCOS WIN!!!!!!!

  8. Adam Zinser says:

    BroncoBoyest95 -

You’re not alone in that wish. Wesley Woodyard was asked by a reporter what he wanted most for Christmas, and a victory was his answer.

I can speak for my colleagues in saying the same thing.

  9. 4EVERBRONCO1 says:

  12. denver270 says:

WHO CARES WHO THEY SIGN NOW IT DOES NOT MATTER!!! THIS TEAM HAS NO HEART!! THEY GIVE UP 2 EASY!! THEY ARE NOT PLAYING PHYSICAL OR WITH ANY PASSION!! SO YOU CAN WISH ALL YOU WANT TO AND YOU WILL SEE THE SAME RESULTS!!!

  13. feetball says:

we should not show faith, it is our right as fans to want a quality team on the field, remember, sports is a business that is aimed at pleasing its fans, fans of a team should not put up with such a monumental collapse, we should demand better from the PRODUCT being marketed to us, we should not keep having blind faith and letting the organization let us down as it has in the past few years, we should not give them a pass on everything, yes it was amazing that we were in the position we were in with all of the injuries we’ve had this year, but still we were in that position and blew it, loosing to the Bills, a team that had lost 7 of 8 or whatever it was, playing them in denver up 13, we should nto just let them off and agree to have faith, faith does not mean result, a product is being marketed to us, our Denver Broncos, and we should not accept such poor quality, we should demand improvements, not just believe things will get better, the team blew it this year in terrible fashion and it is our right to be pissed off, if we lose to the Chargers this sunday night, which is looking more and more likely with the lack of enthusiasm from this team, we have every right to lose faith and being mad at the organization pawning off such a lowsy product on us

  14. Jack_Fan says:

LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE ANOTHER FUTURE ONE AND DONE RUNNING BACK.

SAD TO SAY, THE BRONCOS LOST THE PLAYOFFS ON SUNDAY. THEY WILL HAVE TO SCORE 40 ON THE CHARGERS TO WIN, MAYBE 50.

THE CHARGERS WILL STEP UP AND THE BRONCOS ARE TOO OUT MATCHED ON DEFENSE TO KEEP UP.

  15. Broncos=victory says:

All I really want is a AFC west tittle nothing else. I hope the Broncos play their best and Jay Cutler gets revenge over Philip River.

  16. BucknBronco says:

For all of you FAKE “fans”, there are 31 other teams for you to choose from, so get lost! Even if we don’t make the Playoffs, I’m still proud to be a Broncos FAN.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  17. o-line_fan 67 says:

to the ones wondering about cap space for the broncos posted above take the total of the teams pay also figure in the players with garunteed money let go by the broncos over the last few years example Javon walker among others minus there pay from teams playing for now and you get an idea on what the broncos cap space issues are now that Smith and Wilson have filed retirement papers minus the cap hit they would of had this off season we willl have more room for a few free agents along with draft picks todays players dont restructur contracts like players of old did

  18. ColoradoCutler says:

Feetball-are you a fan or a bus.major and bronx pick a N.Y. team and shoot yourself in the foot (Yes that was a slam on Plax)colombusOhbronco do you ever say anything positive?(become a browns fan already)And if I left any smack talkers out you suck to! WE WILL WIN! And I will rember all of all you neg. bandwagon jumping fans and you’r comments so when we do win(AND WE WILL) and you all try to come jumping back on the bandwagon and say stuff like “I alwase knew we would do it” I will be here to remide you of your lack of faith and support AND THEN YOU CAN GO KICK ROCKS !!!! Can I get…. A GO…. BRONCOS ….from the faithfull!!!!!

  19. Kurt Wagaman says:

CRUSH EM D! If this defensive coaching staff deserves anouther chance then let them orchestrate a pass rush that will leave Phillip Quivers shaking in his cleats. Every player on this defense needs to ask himself if he deserves any respect for the product they have been putting on the field!

  20. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

Negativity sucks and “fans” who spew it here will probably have nothing to say if the Broncos win. It’s so easy to play the negative card but it does no one any good. GO BRONCOS!!!

  21. MY BLOOD IS ORANGE says:

I’m disappointed in all yall fake fans theres probably more faith for the Lions than what yall are givin our team.GO BRONCOS do yall remember Rivers and his ego last season around this same time? That dude is gonna be pickin up his face after we shut that team down!!!!GO BRONCOS!!!

  22. feetball says:

i am not a fake fan for not being pleased with my team, i have like the broncos as long as i’ve followed football, my entire life, half my family lives in denver, i do really hope they win this weekend and it can happen, but i’m not counting on it. The reality is the team is consistently unmotivated. It’s no different than last year, it is not hard ot see that our team only plays hard in the first quarter and last few minutes of the 4th. For the rest of the game it’s like we’re not even there. You watch any of the great teams that play this game, they play all 4 quarters and play hard. They do not look down and give up. our players take plays off and every week the coaches feed us the same excuses and never seem to get the team ready to play an entire game. Look at this game, our D came up huge and motivated in the first quarter, they were awesome. Then they get cocky, Bills adjust their game plan, and next thing we know they’re lost and lose all the charisma they started out with. This has consistently happened this year and last, the team is no different. As fans we have a right to be displeased with the lack of change and seeing the same team game after game, nto much has been done to improve the team at all. If i were not a “true” fan, i’d give up and pick another team to follow, not want the team i love to be better. And how cna i be accused of bandwagoning to a team that has missed the palyoffs 3 years in a row and looks posed to missed this year as well. I love the broncos and nothing would make me happier than a win in SD as i hate them witha fiery passion, but I’m a realist. I see a Broncos team that plays with no urgency and seems to have quit, going into SD where we are hated, to face a Chargers team that has been playing with passion these past few weeks and wants nothing more then to get back at us for the first time we played them this year. I really do hope we win as I do love the Broncos, but I don’t know. It does not make me any less of a fan for nto expecting a win in a scenario like this. If we come out flat, we should demand change, we should nto let this same unmotivated and worn out team be pawned off on us next year

  23. discovery47 says:

I’ve lived and died with the Broncos since 1960, but this year I have to say that I’m really disgusted with them. They have more talent than most of the NFL teams but they play like a bunch of unmotivated losers. If they don’t get outhustled and outhit, they make a bunch of stupid mistakes. How many defensive coordinators and complete changes of personnel will it take before they get a defense that can actually tackle and stop the offense of a crappy team like Oakland or Kansas City? Look at what Atlanta and Baltimore have done in one year with a new coach and a lot less talent that the Broncos have. I’ve always respected Mike Shanahan, but maybe the game has passed him by. Something definitely stinks within the Bronco family and it’s high time for some dramatic changes, even if they squeak by San Diego this week. This year’s team has been an embarrassment and may well spare us further humiliation by missing the playoffs once again. Mr. Bowlen–remember: “change is healthy”.
