Entering Week 17, the Broncos are in the thick of the postseason conversation. Here are the official scenarios that were released by the NFL on Monday morning.
Baltimore, the New York Jets, Denver, Pittsburgh and Houston can make the playoffs if they tie this week, with various other things happening. Jacksonville and Miami cannot make the playoffs with a tie.
Here’s how Denver clinches a playoff spot:

Sure hillis may not make a difference but we would all appreciate using all our weapons.
The Oline is slacking…Yes, we have had some key injuries there but the blame goes to McD at the end of the day for forcing a small atheletic oline to be a power oline instead of a zone blocking oline which we have done so well.
Yes we need a new QB. Orton is a back up in my book…and simms shouldnt even be in the NFL lol….but seriously, Orton is very stiff, not mobile, his “QB cone” is small, so he doesn’t see the whole field, he under throws, he over throws….his arm is weak and his deep ball is inaccurate…but as a back up he is a complete stud. He just needs a super awesome defense…amazing running game….and an unpredictable play book. Not all his fault but still….
Yes we are patriots west…what everyone complained about from the begignign….we would prefer our own identity…we would prefer him (McD) to have his own identity but he is still stuck on NE days….Royal is still awesome….Gaf shoudlnt start over him….I blame Orton and McDs limited playbook for Royals reduced production…Gaff was a good addition but sometimes suffers from drop ball syndrome…Royal is a complete receiver when giving the chance
At the end of the day…..all this can be solved if we “coach better, run better, pass better, and defend better” sound like McD don’t I….the problem starts at the top as always then trickles down….Just liek the QB the Coach gets both the praise and the blame

@BroncoBoyest95: You’re right, the players play and the coaches coach. Throwing a screen on 3rd and long or going right up the gut on short yardage is poor playcalling, IF and ONLY IF it is unsucessful numerous times. Yeah the players gotta execute better, short yardage penetration is something that the o-line can improve, but trying to gain 15+ yards on a screen on third down. If you go ask the 32 head coaches and offensive coordinators what play they would use on 3rd and long, I doubt too many of them would select a bubble screen.
It isn’t just ONE thing, but the playcalling, actually it should be the play selections are questionable and judgemental. If all his play selections worked all time then nobody would question it. When you call the same thing over and over again and it doesn’t work over and over again you gotta try something new.
No one knows for sure what we’d be like if we had Cassel or Cutler, or whoever else you want at QB or any other posistion for that matter. Thing is as a TEAM we didn’t do what we needed to in some key situations. Hey if we can beat KC and go 9-7 we have improved at least on paper. I think we’ve improved as a team but there is still some work to be done. I really want to know the underlying cause of these late season meltdowns.
TRB, instead of taking the thousand points approach taken by broncoboyest, LOL, I will attempt to word it best in one short sentence, just for the sake of simplicity:
The main source of our trouble starts with the immaturity at the helm.
After having seen first hand how a 32 year old coach functions amidst players that are mainly about his age has shown me plenty. I do not buy the age doesn’t matter factor that he claimed all season, age matters in the case of coaching, respect is earned by experience not by brains alone. If he had any experience head coaching at all, he would of adjusted long ago to what worked and what ran us into a brick wall. He is too immature to accept his own failures and it has proven to be a detriment to this team because he has therefore not done the necessary changes or adapted in any way shape or form to improve our team. That is the sad but the hard truth, will he ever grow out of it? Your guess is as good as mine, but for now we are working in a tunnel, and that’s the tunnel vision of McD and McD alone without any hopes of him taking the blind folds out any time soon.
Sure is funny, when the team is struggling and not winning there are sure a lot more posers..oops, I’m sorry I meant posters.

The turning point of that game yesterday was that 27 yard run by McNabb. How the hell did that happen after our D had pretty much shut them down? That was the difference in the game……that and Berger was again AWEFUL!
On one hand I’d still love to see our team in the playoffs but there’s a side of me that says they truly don’t even deserve the chance with their play over the last HALF of the season, They wouldn’t even be able to compete with the elite teams of the AFC. Unfortunate, but true at this point, otherwise we would’ve had a playoff spot locked up long ago.
I had to watch that video of the 1997 broncos again to make me feel better about my team! haha
I for one hope we dont draft a QB with Chicagos pick. I like Orton as our QB. He’s done a lot in less than a year imagine when he gets more comfortable with McD offense. I do agree his deep ball needs acuraccy but he can improve that during the offseason. So I say we resign him to a 3 year deal. Besides who else do we got? Simms? Brandsater? A rookie?
I think we need to draft D and O lineman. If we could at least get the 8th pick from Chicago we could possibly trade up to get SUH! If not we should get the best O lineman available. Or we could maybe get Taylor Mays since our secondary is getting preety old.

Guys i really dont blame mcdaniels AS much as i blame some of the players. Sure i think there was some poor execution in some of our loses, but i mainly think our loses came from poor execution and a lack of wanting to push that extra mile from the players. I mean lets face it, some of the games the coaching staff, and players, choked. ThATS THAT! I love my broncos, i think mcdaniels is a GREAT COACH!! Lets NOT FORGET THAT worse case scenerio we end up 8-8 i mean come on!? after a rebuilding year??? new coach new players new system and new team?? Im dissapointed with the pathetic losses to teams like the chargers at home, but im impressed with what i see. MCDANIELS COACHED US TO A 6-0 start and i didnt hear any of you crying. Im mad as all heck about these loses too , dont get me wrong but we could be worse off than what we are at the moment.
-I say we keep orton for atleast one more year, draft a DT in the draft. Lets tom brandstater saronate behind orton and then play him after next year. WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS! We really have a good chance, those scenerios are very good in our favor.

Execution, or lack of execution is all we hear, it is not that simple I’m afraid. If we were to rely strictly on perfect execution for every play of the game we would never win a single game because perfection is not part of this world of ours, everybody makes mistakes all the time, hence the game plan must allow for less than perfection by stepping out of the box once in awhile, just to give us a shot at making up ground for all those times we are not executing perfectly. It’s not rocket science, this coach is way overestimating the abilities of his players and it is another monumental miscalculation of his in this, his first year as an immature NFL coach.
In your time off this off season, coach, do yourself a favor and read some of these comments on these blogs you say you never read, you’d be surprised how much you could learn about life and people and their football passion in this here Bronco Country that you don’t have a clue about now. There are some guys here who have spent a lifetime following football and everything said here shouldn’t be discarded just because we aren’t head coaches, the fact that we care more about our team that you will ever know and spend most of our leasure time sinking our teeth into the state of our team should be enough for you to a least want to get a pulse about what true Bronco fans think like. Just knowing everything there is to know about football is not enough to qualify as a good head coach, there is more to 53 human beings than that. You need to understand players as people before you can coach them to greatness, it is more than a machine, which is what our team on O looks like every week, a boring broken down piece of machinery at that. Just my opinion.

Baylin, Honestly having atleast over 90 % execution will help you win ball games. Im not taking all of the blame away from mcdaniels, because there is stuff i dont agree with. Such as not letting hillis come in as the primary HB on 3rd and shorts. IK IK HES OUR MAIN FB but come on now.
SOme play calling im sure would work, but they just never get through. Our offensive line is just disgusting. How many times did 3 ppl get pressure on us yesterday? how bout all season?
Is the lack of will and push i see from the players in games like against the raiders that makes me angry. ITS EASY for me to say since im just a poster and not a player but what the broncos showed in the first 6 games showed up last night in the 3rd quarter and almost the whole 4th quarter. We are a great team with great talent. Trust me this team will be great when every one is in sync with the system.
