After receiving word that Tim Tebow would be taking over for Kyle Orton in Week 7 against the Dolphins, several Broncos shared their thoughts on the change and spoke about the unique traits Tebow brings to the quarterback position.
Here are a few quotes from inside the locker room:
WR Eric Decker on Tebow’s growth:
“With his progression over the last year-and-a-half, he’s just gotten more comfortable with the system. It’s a lot coming from college football to the NFL learning a new system with the speed that everybody has. He’s always had confidence, but getting the experience and getting the passes and just trusting himself and trusting his drops, trusting his throws and trusting the guys around him-that is something you learn as time goes on.”
Decker on Tebow’s ability to extend plays:
“We better get some extra conditioning in, because he’s going to be running around a little longer. But it can be a good thing because you can get a broken play and scramble out, get one guy deep and one guy short and get some explosive plays that keep drives alive.”
“One thing you can’t take away from him is that heart, that emotion. That’s something he carries on his sleeve and brings every day to work. He’s a guy that won’t be outworked and that rubs off on people. It might not be the most conventional way but he finds a way to get it done.”
TE Daniel Fells on what Tebow brings to the team:
“Tim has his a little factor that only he brings. He’s a scrambling quarterback that does some different things, so you definitely notice that. It’s a little bit different with him running around back there, so you always have to be ready for it.”
QB Kyle Orton on conversations he’s had with Tebow:
“Helping him in any way that I can, and like I said, help the team in any way that I can.”
Orton on his disappointment:
“I’m just disappointed with everything. I wish I could have played better, wish we had a better record, wish a lot of things, but the reality is what it is.”
LB Joe Mays On Tebow’s ability:
“He’s going to do whatever it takes. He’s going to work harder than anybody else and he’s going to make sure he does what needs to be done to be successful.”
“Some people may call him unorthodox, but at the end of the day he gets the job done. When his number is called he’s always looking to go out there and perform and make plays.”
Below are some photos from the morning practice.

Three games, then we’ll have an idea on Tebow. Let’s hope he does better than the last gu, and if he doesn’t, we do have a third option. I just want to win, I think Tebow can do it, but he does need to get better at passing.
@wildhorses … sucking sure helped the lions be the beasts they are today. They may not have been to the playoffs in like 1 decade but we havent been since 2005 and before that we had mediocre seasons just to have a pick in the late teens … while they had top 10 picks and got back to glory faster than us. I repeat … i have a boat full of pride and never wanna lose … but sucking works man … lol. We already been sucking … whats wrong with sucking harder lmao. I aint mad at any organization that does that. But quite honestly no organization will tell their team to lose on purpose … not the kind of mentality u wanna build and athletes are competitive … they dont like to lose and if u tell them to lose … expect them to wanna leave town lol. TRB
I knew somebody would get that rabidorange. Guess my subtlety goes over some people’s heads.
507. Not nice. Your momma would be proud of you!!! Language like that should have been moderated.
I’ll bet the cheerleaders are shaking their head in disappointment. (if any of them read the blog)
Like strand said about 4 hours ago. No mercy in the NFL
Funny you mention sucking TRB. I mean isn’t that what got our 1st round draft pick benched. Then the starting QB.
I think the only 2 on our team that wouldn’t get benched for sucking up the joint are Dawkins and Champ.
Not to mention a coach was fired recently in Denver for sucking. Cheating. Then still sucking.
Only difference this year. The most suck gets Luck. And I think that’s a winning combination. Which is ironic to say the least!
You keep pointing to the Lions game, that could be very dangerous for TT , with this offensive line trying to pass block against that front 4. Makes me cringe just thinking about it
@ TRB I respect your oppion …but lets be realistic the lions haven’t won anything yet . Or for that matter won any seriously big games . Or even proven their QB or RB can stay healthy a full season! we are only 1/4 way through the season .If you remember it wasn’t to long ago we went 6-0 how’d that turn out ? Don’t to be so quick to anoint them contenders we will see in two moths .
Does anyone else just find Fox so boring to listen to? He’s like watching paint dry. I understand that he understands the system and he doesn’t want to say anything to extreme to offend anyone or have the media turn something around on him, but for real, show us some feelings and some thought processes into decisions made through the guys up top. Plus I want to know if coming on this website, reading the same articles over and over everyday, and posting along with these beloved fans had any impact on your decision to make the QB change. I like to think that he saw that one blog that day we were discussing whether anyone in the front office takes their time to check out what we are saying.
Oh, and TRB, I have to disagree with you this time man. Did you watch any of the sportscenter clips on the Broncos QB change? If you did you may have seen the one where Tebow is in the middle of his teammates when he played for Florida. He was screaming and getting the team pumped up. After watching that I have to say that losing is not an option for that man. Whether not intentional or intentional. To suck for Luck is not really an option for the team while Tebow is under center
Plus, this BYE week is like a whole new preseason. All our players will be fresh (er), the right man will be under center, and we are going into a game that is a must win for Denver. This game could really boost the team’s spirits and has the possibility of changing our whole season. I’m not saying that we will go to the playoffs or anything, but with a win I think we can turn it around and it won’t be unreasonable anymore to say we wouldn’t make the playoffs anymore–> Obviously all pending Tebow’s play. I almost feel bad for him. He has a whole city riding on his back. The pressure is on, but I know he loves/thrives from it.
-mile high salute-
This puts alot of pressure on our rookie RT Orlando Franklin, abit worried about him, especially in passing situations
I Agree Orlando my get Tebow killed .you have to imagine that’s why we went out and got a serious blocking FB to help him in pass pro .And also why it took so long for fox to make the move to Tebow we may need to look at Addams at RT for the season(if hes still available) and why we tried last minute to resign Harris .but he has been getting stronger in pass pro so we need to hold our breath for now .
Klis said his buddy owns a bar in NJ and after Jets game they switched over to Den SD game and the whole place was going nuts in last 5 minutes
by the way I hope Dawk is ready after bye week, we were getting gashed big time on that weak side run when he went out and Carter came in
OC I personally like foxes approach ide rather have him then one of the psycho loud mouth Ryan boys ,or that psycho in need of medication from KC! But I admit i’m OLD SCHOOL .One game at a time etc.He cracks me up .
Is Rocky Bernard still a FA, maybe we should bring him in for a look see
I don’t put much into elway not blessing tebow right away. tebow is not just the anti orton, he is the anti efx.
they will try and adapt a little bit to compliment tebows skill set but unfortunately unless tebow truly lights a fire up their. the show continues. we as fans believe in tebow but they don’t. the suck for luck is still in full effect. the playing tebow was and is a ploy to keep the fans occupied.which it will because it’s tebow time first
Rocky Bernard,is a NY Giant
I am not looking for miracles with the remainder of this season. I want the kid to get out there and get his reps every week, continue to get good practices with the 1st team and do his best to help pull something out of this season. Fox and company went into this season not to rebuild but to win. Personally, I think that was a huge mistake. Coming off a loosing season(s), lockout, new coach and a lot of new staff doesn’t make a good recipe for much success. I feel if they would have gone into this season with the rebuild mentality then things may have been different. One thing is for certain, TT would have been under center this entire season. That is where he should have been all along. The question I have now is this. How long is EFX going to give Tebow to prove himself? If all they are going to give him is the remainder of this season, then they are wasting everybody’s time. One thing I revealed yesterday with the little game was that there are very, very few ‘greats’ that were great their first season or two. It took every single one of them a couple of years to get it together before they stepped on the beginning rung of the ladder to greatness. My suggestion to those that doubt Tebow is to sit back, shut your mouths, and simply watch. You might even learn something. Steve Young tried to talk to Dilfer on this Sunday, and Dilfer continued to argue with Young that Tebow will never succeed in the NFL. Well, first, Dilfer is not one that needs to be sitting there telling somebody, especially the caliber of Steve Young that Tebow will not succeed. Dilfer wasn’t anything in the NFL to begin with and sure does not qualify in any sense of the imagination to judge anyone, in any position, of their playing skills in the NFL. Tebow has earned his shot, and we need to give it to him. That is the only decent thing to do.
As for the upcoming draft, we have a lot of areas of need that we need to address. Strengthening the offense and defense are two main areas that are in bad need right now. We should address those areas and build these areas around Tebow and his strengths. Just maybe if we did this we might find ourselves in the playoffs sooner than later, looking at the possibility of heading to the sb again.
I’m thinking maybe: Vernon Gholston ,Tank Johnson ,Jammie Kirlew ,Junior Siavii, or bring back Jeremy Jarmon
Wonder why the Bears only kept Golston on their roster for 1 month?
Johnson seems to like being in legal trouble. To much illegal firearms charges for me.
I agree no one is a great choice but we do need another body on the D line .
I agree wh, but the news coverage Johnson brings to a team, we don’t need. Doesn’t reflect what a Bronco represents.
Golston or Junior would be my pick if i had the power well personally i would have signed one week two like Igor.
I agree.
seweatherman1, I had a similar thought yesterday on Tebow’s performance. How do you judge success in the beginning? What will he have to do for EFX to decide he has been “successful?” Will he have to win 50%, 60%, 70% of his starts? If he makes the overall team performance better and keeps the fan base into the games, is that enough? Does he have to complete a certain percentage of his passes with a certain limit of interceptions for a certain number of TD’s? Or does he simply have to “get better” each week and if so, how much better? It is going to be interesting to see how they evaluate him and his performance and what standards they set. He will set his own performance standards which he will never reach, of course, because he will set them almost out of sight. He always has and probably always will. I think for him, the question is what is good enough performance to say he has proven the point that he can play QB in the NFL?
Man I’m glad most bloggers are actually talking about the TEAMand what they need to do and not just Tebow/Orton. To bad Orton doesn’t have any trade value, The Broncos might have made a trade for a True DT who knows.
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
GO TEBOW ! ! !
How to gage success for a young QB:Over the final three weeks of last season, Tebow scored more Fantasy points than any other player. No, that’s not a misprint either. And in his first real action of 2011, he scored more Fantasy points than Tom Brady, Darren McFadden and Roddy White — and he did it in less than one full half! Am I missing something? Tebow manages to keep that up or even close to it Ill take it and call it a raging success …….but that’s me.
[...] Other teammates chime in on what Tebow brings to the table. [DenverBroncos.com] [...]
After signing a FB Fox is still interested in more backs, way to go, if only he could feel the same about DTs, glad he is looking at D backs too:
Aaron Brown, a speedy, 205-pound tailback who spent the previous two seasons with the Detroit Lions, was brought in to Dove Valley for a tryout Monday.
Brown was a sixth-round draft pick in 2009 and was one of Detroit’s final cuts from their 53-man roster prior to this season. He rushed 189 yards on 44 carries (4.3 per carry) in 21 games for the Lions.
Also working out for the Broncos on Monday were defensive backs David Jones and Trevard Lindley. Jones is a fifth-year defensive back/special teamer who played three seasons with Cincinnati and last season in Jacksonville.
Lindley was a fourth-round pick just last year by the Philadelphia Eagles but was cut just prior to this season’s opener.
Fox settling the matter once and for all of who decided to go with Tebow while talking to Woody:
As we sat at a picnic table at Dove Valley, Fox emphatically stated that he — not John Elway and not Pat Bowlen — made the decision to promote Tebow to No. 1, “just as I did Sunday,” when the coach changed his quarterbacks at halftime.
“It was a gut reaction,” Fox said.
So, I asked Fox on Tuesday afternoon, will the Broncos radically overhaul their offense to fit Tebow?
“No,” he replied, preferring the word “tweak.”
“We already have plays in the offense designed for him as a ‘wildcat’ quarterback. But he understands our offense and knows how to run it.”
“Mike McCoy worked with Tim last year when he started three games. We have a good idea about Tim’s strengths at quarterback . . . . I wish we could have had 20 more practices (in the offseason) with him, but he’s a better passer now, and, of course, we know about his running ability.”
Tebow said after Sunday’s game that he noticed immediately the Chargers “put a spy on me” — a linebacker to shadow his every move.
“That’s an advantage with Tim,” Fox said, explaining that it takes away one defensive player in pass coverage or against the rush. If defensive ends come wider in order to contain Tebow, as the Chargers did, the middle opens for running back Willis McGahee.
Fox said Tebow gave the Broncos “a spark” Sunday, and Elway and several players used the same term to describe him later.
“So Timmy has a new nickname,” I said to Fox. He got it, and finally smiled.
“Sparky” Tebow.
got to love those ex eagles they keep buying high priced tallet and casting off quality depth and older starters .and they just keep working out for us B dawk, Joe Mays, and Bunkly keep them coming.
The Broncos lost their last home game Sunday, but you wouldn’t know it by the traffic at the team’s official merchandise store.
Marty Garafalo — the COO of GameDay Merchandising, the company that runs the official team shops — said Tuesday there has been a noticeable increase in sales because of the excitement over Tim Tebow becoming the starting quarterback.
“He’s like a rock star,” Garafalo said.
Garafalo said sales of Tebow merchandise had slowed from the 2010 pace early this season, but the figures appear to be rising again, particularly in the sale of women’s No. 15 jerseys.
“Women’s sales have been huge for him,” he said, estimating that a quarter of all Tebow jersey sales at team stores have been of the women’s variety.
I personally wouldn’t buy one yet, I would wait at least until he proves he can be the long time starter by year end and to make extra sure I’m going to get my money’s worth I wouldn’t get it until we find out what EFX will do in next year’s draft, plus then I’d be able to get the new orange Nike jersey, a win/win situation for me to wait. And I’m not a girl anyway, LOL.
Talking about Mays, funny to hear what he has to say after killerkod and I just talked about the poor tackling yesterday:
“To know what’s coming and not be able to stop it, it’s frustrating,” Mays said. “It’s tackling and being able to get off the field on third down. Those are the things we’re going to work on today and tomorrow.”
Mays, in his first season as a full-time starter, was critical of his own play, particularly against San Diego on Sunday. The Chargers rushed for 206 yards.
“I need to get better,” Mays said. “I’m in the position to make plays, and I need to make them. I missed a couple of tackles. I have confidence in myself, I know I can do it. I just need to go out there and execute.”
Weatherman1, I enjoyed your 4:44 a.m. post, brilliant. You could have said it any better. That negates the instant gratification way. I`m behind that concept.
The #15 Tebow jerseys are selling like hotcakes once more.
No matter how they want to sugarcoat it, I don’t like Demaryius’ chances of being productive this season at all:
Thomas nearing return.
Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has not yet been cleared by doctors to practice, but the team is hopeful the 2010 first-round draft pick will be on the field next week when the team returns from a bye. Thomas had surgery in early September to repair a broken left pinkie finger. The metal pieces inserted into the finger during that surgery will remain in for the duration of the season.
Metal pieces in your finger for the whole season on weak injury prone gimpy legs, not a good combo.
And I have no clue as to the bloggers here who claim Elway wants Tebow to fail:
“Inside this building, we’re aware of the type of energy and passion he brings to so many people,” said John Elway, the Broncos’ football operations boss. “He’s the type of guy where everybody wants to see him succeed. Believe me, he has no bigger fan than me or John Fox inside this building. Now we have to do whatever we can as a team to help Tim be successful.”
I am ready to see what this kid can do I hope Fox is smart and alows Tebow to play his game not Kyles
Stupid If you ask me. He wouldn`t be jealous if he got Luck as QB, same goes for Tebow. Elway wants to win like TODAY!!
Baylinocrush you should try to give Thomas a chance, I know he has been injured like 90% of the time but maybe he could come back and do great at least thats what Im hoping for. If you remember Mayock had him rated higher that Dez Bryant in the draft. So i still have some hope for him. If he gets hurt again b4 this season ends i say we should cut ties.
arch, won’t do you any good arguing your point about Demaryius with me since I have been asking to trade him on this blog since before this last draft, but to each his own, I just always get rid of a problem before it really becomes one, always done that in business and served me well, you wait and all you stand to do is lose some more, those are the odds, and this is a business, gotta go with the odds, can’t afford working on prayers.
Well we wont get anything better than a 6th rounder for him now, i would say no point in getting rid of him at this point. True he looked good early then got the injuries left and right. Might as well wait till the end of the season. Anyways Im pretty pumped that Tebow is starting. Anyone see the Damsek report? He has Lloyd #1 of shame of week 5. And says Tebow is not good.God I Hate that guy. so stupid! http://www.nfl.com/videos/the-shame-report/09000d5d8230d0f0/The-Shame-Report-Week-5
Thanks strand. Just preaching to the choir is all. Say it like it is. I just got a little tired of listening to those saying that we need to draft Luck without even giving the kid a chance. That is why I put that little game together yesterday. Just to show some that it takes a season or two for these guys to get it together to become ‘greats’ as they say.
Heck, Aikman didn`t even win a game his first year as a Cowboy. The Cowboys went 1-15 that year.
In Elways 2nd season, he had taken the Denver Broncos to the playoffs. His first was a stinker.
Unfortunately weatherman, in this case Tebow will have this year to prove himself because the QB class next year is real good and Elway will either make a move for a QB or not, it’s all up to Tebow this year, not next year, I think that’s the rteality of it. In a perfect world I agree with you, but in 57 years I have never ever known anything to be perfect yet…
I personally find the Tebow hysteria hilarious…comments from Decker and Mays? Clearly not team leaders. Nothing from Bailey or Dawkins or even Lloyd…..Just seems strange.
They are all walking on eggs.
