Players Discuss QB Change

October 11th, 2011 - 5:39pm by Max Henson

After receiving word that Tim Tebow would be taking over for Kyle Orton in Week 7 against the Dolphins, several Broncos shared their thoughts on the change and spoke about the unique traits Tebow brings to the quarterback position.

Here are a few quotes from inside the locker room:

WR Eric Decker on Tebow’s growth:
“With his progression over the last year-and-a-half, he’s just gotten more comfortable with the system. It’s a lot coming from college football to the NFL learning a new system with the speed that everybody has. He’s always had confidence, but getting the experience and getting the passes and just trusting himself and trusting his drops, trusting his throws and trusting the guys around him-that is something you learn as time goes on.”

Decker on Tebow’s ability to extend plays:
“We better get some extra conditioning in, because he’s going to be running around a little longer. But it can be a good thing because you can get a broken play and scramble out, get one guy deep and one guy short and get some explosive plays that keep drives alive.”

“One thing you can’t take away from him is that heart, that emotion. That’s something he carries on his sleeve and brings every day to work. He’s a guy that won’t be outworked and that rubs off on people. It might not be the most conventional way but he finds a way to get it done.”

TE Daniel Fells on what Tebow brings to the team:
“Tim has his a little factor that only he brings. He’s a scrambling quarterback that does some different things, so you definitely notice that. It’s a little bit different with him running around back there, so you always have to be ready for it.”

QB Kyle Orton on conversations he’s had with Tebow:
“Helping him in any way that I can, and like I said, help the team in any way that I can.”

Orton on his disappointment:
“I’m just disappointed with everything. I wish I could have played better, wish we had a better record, wish a lot of things, but the reality is what it is.”

LB Joe Mays On Tebow’s ability:
“He’s going to do whatever it takes. He’s going to work harder than anybody else and he’s going to make sure he does what needs to be done to be successful.”

“Some people may call him unorthodox, but at the end of the day he gets the job done. When his number is called he’s always looking to go out there and perform and make plays.”

Below are some photos from the morning practice.

    LMDAO!! LOL AGAIN.

  2. BeastFromEast92 says:

I just don’t get why all the sympathy for Orton,he made his millions, had 7 years to prove himself, failed miserably, pretty much said F the fans, and we’re supposed to feel sorry for him, well I don’t!!!

  3. Orange_Crusher says:

bay and others.. go back and check out Coops post on his last blog…

    ILMSCOOPDB!!!!!

  4. strandoftds says:

No mercy when it comes to the NFL.

  5. randy2191 says:

as much as i wanted tebow at qb.. im tired of it.. i cant even watch espn nfln nothing its about tebow non stop.. im ready for this initial excitement to end and get on with watching tebow play!

  6. strandoftds says:

Same thing, over and over, old news.

  7. randy2191 says:

exactly!! and its not like its that big of news.. we already knew it was gunna happen we have been talking about it on here for like 5 weeks lol

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks OC, what Coop said pretty much matches my hoping Fox won’t be the brakes in Tebow’s sports car.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, that’s because you are a newbie randy, I have been attempting to get the organization to start Tebow ALL YEAR.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

You know I haven’t watched a single minute of ESPN an NFLN all day so I don’t care, LOL.

  11. 1nOnlyTRB says:

You know what I think is so funny … the way Decker is talking, its like he is a vet and TT is the rookie. Because of the difference in playing time u would forget they came in the same year lol. Glad the team rallying behind him. I had no doubt. They did late last year too. They are all pros … they know how the business works. Heck Moreno lost his starting job to McGahee … same with Orton. Anyone can get it. This team isn’t where it is just because of one guy even if his poor play contributed alot. Orton handled it like a pro … cuz this is a job and he is getting whether he starts or is on the bench. He has no future here so whether he plays or not doesn’t matter. He woulda liked to audition for another team longer tho. And left a better taste in their mouth. I like Orton .. really I do. Not a bad guy. He just doesn’t have it and I feel bad for him cuz I think he tries so hard. Even when he says he doesnt care about the fans im sure he would love the fans to roar when he comes on the field like they do for TT.

Work through the Bye week guys … guys that need to rest rest … guys that can take extra reps take … the season is only over if you believe it is. My prediction for this season was 9-7 … in which case TT would have to go 8-3 … lol … lets see.

What I like is how everyone is saying what fans and man on this blog myself included have been saying for the longest. All the analysts now saying stuff like “You gotta find out what u got in him before next year”, “They have nothing to lose by playing him” “Orton will not be here and is not the guy” …. all that sit and learn and Orton is best chance to win … out the window for most of them like they never said it. Lame … wasted 5 games … but watever … all things have in thier time.

    TRB

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Did you guys notice? Not a single pic of Orton at practice above, it’s a first!

  13. randy2191 says:

bay, i know ever since i joined in i wanna say around june or july you and alot of people have been.. but after week one is when nearly everyone got on with wanting tebow and wanting him now!

  14. strandoftds says:

I don`t feel sorry for someone who was our starting QB and doesn`t give a rats arse about the fans.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, remember Broncos motto, better late than never, always seems to be the MO.

  16. strandoftds says:

    Orton B-Gone.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

I knew that herbicide would work, LOL.

  18. strandoftds says:

I wonder if the Broncos will really cut him, I mean honostly.

  19. strandoftds says:

    You started it Bay.

  20. Mikew007 says:

Yeah, gotta admit Orton ticked me off with the “don’t care what the fans think” stuff.

  21. strandoftds says:

Thats the wrong thing to say.

  22. Mikew007 says:

McCoy better have his Tebow offense ready. It can’t be the same as the Orton offense! Hopefully, they were all planning ahead for Tebow to take over.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

That’s what the bye week is for, players can’t participate for 4 days by the new cba but coaches sure can.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

McCoy and Studs were able to adapt to Tebow fairly well last year, let’s hope Fox won’t stand in the way is more the issue I think.

  25. Mikew007 says:

Good point…I don’t expect Fox to stand in the way though. The best thing we can do for TT is run the ball well and that’s what Fox wants to do.

  26. strandoftds says:

I think They`ll have some plays with Tim in the shot gun with the spread. I just remembered D. Thomas should be back. That gives us a extra WR and Royal too, so thats two of our WR`s back.

  27. strandoftds says:

If Thomas gets injured again this year, I`m writing him off.

  28. RabidOrange says:

Demarius should be fine as long as he only catches soft passes in the endzone. That way he won’t get hit, and the ball won’t crack those glass bones…

  29. RabidOrange says:

He probably shouldn’t practice too much, either. That seems to be where he gets hurt most…

  30. Mikew007 says:

Land wars in east Asia and WR’s with foot injuries….but I digress.

  31. OrangePride76 says:

thing is can tebow throw seriously

  32. Ty-one-on says:

In the link is a video of Tebow’s former teammate Mike Pouncey who is currently the center for the Miami Dolphins commenting on Tebow being named the starter. A lot of respect there.

  33. sndvl says:

BFE! Not mad at you at all!!!!

Afterall, I’m the fool who supported Orton.

OC- hope you don’t mind if I take a page from your book.

Pic #6- “Umm. Mr. Tebow. Your receiver is 10 yards to the right. Nice spiral though. Run it again…”

  34. OrangePride76 says:

    We have to win games

  35. Mikew007 says:

    Sndvl = hilarious.

OP76…..we are gonna find out aren’t we!

  36. wild horses says:

You think its almost over?well you had better get ready for it. imagine if we beat Detroit and end the perfect season ?The media frenzy then .Not to mention Tim playing in front of the gator faithful on Gator night. THINK Tim will be up for that .His first start of the season the stands will be orange and blue and pro Tebow YOU HAVE TO LOVE THAT!ppl will still say hes unorthodox, but then it will be a good thing !And if hes successful even moderately going .500 for the remainder of the season .Hey It could happen ! He wont be the washout that the “experts”thought . Its a short step from unwanted prospect to sensation see Cam Newton .And if Tim gets it rolling the media will be the first to say secretly I always hoped he would hes a special kid.If he piles up a few wins he will become not A prospect but THE PROSPECT And it could the beginning of something special .And I will say I always believed…..what will you say? TEBOW!!!!!!GO BRONCOS!!!!

  37. stevecan2 says:

first thing sndvl wrote that is way off. lol. nfl is fast you have to lead the receivers a lot.

  38. OrangePride76 says:

Oh i don’t what to think about the broncos future

  39. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I think TT can throw well enough and will get better with each game he plays … if u noticed on sunday his first couple of drives took him a while to get some rhythm. Dont care what anyone says … the way to get better is to play … and the plays he can’t make with his hands he will make with his legs until he learns how to make em with his hands. Dont care if he runs it passes it punts it headbutts it as long as I see results and improvements I like. This whole team lost the 4 games not just Orton … but Orton was a large part in my book. To win … TT will have to get the guys to give him all they got … and I think he can. By no means does TT believe they put him in for a throw away season nor do his teammates or the coach. Goal is still to win and I pray he can. Thank God for bye week. Get the much needed snaps. Indeed bay, better late than never for some of these “professionals” TRB

  40. iconic_7 says:

Well there goes my Suck for Luck program. Tebow will win 1-2 games more than Orton. Yeah it will at least be fun to watch Tebow compete.

If John Elway says Tebow is not the future Tebow is not the future. Not because he is Elway cause he is the man in charge of football operations.

It’s always something with us fans. first Shannahan then Cutler. We wouldn’t be in this hole fiasco. Mcd came in and dismantle an up and coming team.

why can’t we all just set back and drink some of the suck for luck cool aid Elway and i r on and next season we will have the best thing since P manning or Elway. A once in a decade QB. lets all hope he goes to an NFC team cause if not we’re in for an even longer drought.

Well I guess i got that out. wish Tebow would have started from the start of this season. wish only the best for Tebow.

and really what do I know, i’m no coach, pro QB or VP of FO. so i wouldn’t know about how to run a team. Orton was executing the Suck for Luck plan perfectly now us fans r all going to have to wait ten years for the next great QB.

    How about them Bronco’s S/L

ps and please some one buy Orton a beer. He does not deserve the treatment the fans have given him.

  41. broncsbomber66 says:

Ill be the first to call Tebow Optimus Prime, lol

  42. rayjr26 says:

@ broncsbomber66…. LMAO…. love it! I will have to remember and start calling him Optimus. Hopefully he can transform into a huge truck and carry all of broncos nation, heck the team to maybe, in the back of the “Optimus Wagon”!! too effing funny!

    Go Broncos
Show us what you got Optimus! :)

  43. iconic_7 says:

Demarglass why couldn’t he play? broken finger?

i remember T.O. played with a broken finger.

Demarglass Com’on man broncos r paying u first round money?

I hope u have the play book down pat.

    How about them Broncos. S/L

  44. The570Bronco says:

sndvl….. hes leading the receiver you retard

  45. wild horses says:

really suck for luck ?i’m going to pour Orange kool aid on the head of the next person that insinuates that loosing is the best way to win that include JE seriously . ware is your passion your pride maybe we need a new VP of player personnel if he cant back his players and personnel. i’m shocked and saddened. it sickens me to say but it appears (i would have laughed in the face of anyone insinuating this ) but …..it does appear John’s big plan is to loose. Ive never herd of a VP badmouthing their starting QB during a switch like this .That came off like a spoiled child that did not get his way Pathetic ! And shame on anyone who backs that thought process (in my humble opinion)so much for team unity or the supposed 3 men one mind one decision in the front office ?Hang your head Duke . FOR SHAME!

  46. Orange_Crusher says:

hahahaha!!! thats exactly what I was thinking, but I didn’t say it…LOL

  47. RabidOrange says:

sndvl – the funniest part about that caption is that it is for Pic(k) 6!! LMAO!! Perfect!!

  48. Broncownage says:

    @wild horses

What are you referencing in regards to Elway wanting to suck for Luck? Who did he badmouth?

  49. socalbigbroncofan says:

    Coach Fox’s best line today.
Reporter: Is Kyle Orton your 2nd string qb.
Coach Fox: Ahhhhh i’m not going to answer that, cause i don’t have to.
lol. ha greatest line ever. poor fox u stepped into it when u came here. Its ok stay strong foxy and thanks for starting Tebow.

  50. 1nOnlyTRB says:

bomber66, well … we will definitely need Optimus Prime come week 8 when Megatron comes to town if we have a shot at victory … so for our sake … hope you are right lol. Luckily the detroit game is a home game cuz after witnessing the kinda noise Lions fans made agaisnt the Bears … I would hate to play there.TRB
