Players Discuss QB Change

October 11th, 2011 - 5:39pm by Max Henson

After receiving word that Tim Tebow would be taking over for Kyle Orton in Week 7 against the Dolphins, several Broncos shared their thoughts on the change and spoke about the unique traits Tebow brings to the quarterback position.

Here are a few quotes from inside the locker room:

WR Eric Decker on Tebow’s growth:
“With his progression over the last year-and-a-half, he’s just gotten more comfortable with the system. It’s a lot coming from college football to the NFL learning a new system with the speed that everybody has. He’s always had confidence, but getting the experience and getting the passes and just trusting himself and trusting his drops, trusting his throws and trusting the guys around him-that is something you learn as time goes on.”

Decker on Tebow’s ability to extend plays:
“We better get some extra conditioning in, because he’s going to be running around a little longer. But it can be a good thing because you can get a broken play and scramble out, get one guy deep and one guy short and get some explosive plays that keep drives alive.”

“One thing you can’t take away from him is that heart, that emotion. That’s something he carries on his sleeve and brings every day to work. He’s a guy that won’t be outworked and that rubs off on people. It might not be the most conventional way but he finds a way to get it done.”

TE Daniel Fells on what Tebow brings to the team:
“Tim has his a little factor that only he brings. He’s a scrambling quarterback that does some different things, so you definitely notice that. It’s a little bit different with him running around back there, so you always have to be ready for it.”

QB Kyle Orton on conversations he’s had with Tebow:
“Helping him in any way that I can, and like I said, help the team in any way that I can.”

Orton on his disappointment:
“I’m just disappointed with everything. I wish I could have played better, wish we had a better record, wish a lot of things, but the reality is what it is.”

LB Joe Mays On Tebow’s ability:
“He’s going to do whatever it takes. He’s going to work harder than anybody else and he’s going to make sure he does what needs to be done to be successful.”

“Some people may call him unorthodox, but at the end of the day he gets the job done. When his number is called he’s always looking to go out there and perform and make plays.”

Below are some photos from the morning practice.

All I can say is thank god this is my week off as far as keeping track of score predictions so I could scroll right through the thousand posts from this afternoon without really reading them mainly from bloggers we have never ever seen here before, not that I don’t care about what you guys have to say but it’s fair to say you are only here because Tebow was made the starter, so now we all wait to see how that turns out and I hope this hord of new bloggers sticks around no matter how the wind blows. Oh My, how crazy!!!

This was my post early this morning before the news even reached this official site and the blogger tsunami swallowed everything up, so you newbies know where I stand:

Everybody was wrong, even EFX. Well not everybody, we had a real strong contingent here all along who told EFX that Orton was not the answer, so here goes the myth that fans don’t know any better, LOL.

Better late than never, the Denver Broncos organization motto for years now.

Now we will find out what I always thought we should, if Tebow can be the guy so we can line up next year draft smartly.

I don’t even care about this season as far as record goes or anything like that.

I care about this moment in our history because now we are moving forward again, coming out of stagnation, a huge day for our future, whether it will include Tebow or not. At least we will know by season end. Before with Orton we knew nothing, like sailing a ship without a destination. It was gruesome.

    Thanks Fox for coming around.

Thanks Mr Bowlen for being willing to deal with whatever escalators there may be.

You have restored some of my beliefs in how this organization is run, and for that I think #1 I gotta thank Mr Elway.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

SOOO excited to see what we can do now as a team .I no its just miami but a win would be such a good feeling for the team and us fans.

  4. RabidOrange says:

Bay, my prediction for week 6:

    Broncos: 0

I just don’t see us scoring many points, but Tebow will get some good throws in. Lots of passing yards this week.

  5. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Nailed it, Bay. No matter what the future holds we took a step away from the status quo. Excited about the Broncos again!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

    GO TEBOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. mrpop80 says:

wow, yea prediciton will be broncos 0 we have a bye lol. Now in week 7 Tebow has some pressure on him for reunite of the florida gators and starting there. It will be a sell out crowd and we will benefit off it. Tebow is a all around quarterback he needs time in the seat as we all do. We have givin Orton plenty of times to prove himself but just like in chicago he did the same thing. Tebows been knocked down but gets up fights and makes the most of that. We need a qb ike that reminds me of Elway no matter what kept fighting for the “WIN.”

  8. baylinorcrush says:

You guys are funny but you get it, NO PREDICTIONS DURING THE BYE WEEK, everybody is off including I, haha, will start taking them Monday, no exceptions, thank you!

  9. Broncos Born & Raised says:

You know Fox kept saying he wouldn’t continue to do the same ol things if they weren’t working. He really put his money where his mouth is and I appreciate him and the organization immensely for being willing to think outside the box a bit. Also I really respect and appreciate how Kyle is handling this. The main thing is I believe in the organization again and feel like we will build toward a championship – even if it doesn’t work out with Tim (which of course I don’t believe to be the case).

  10. strandoftds says:

GO ORANGE AND BLUE!! GO TEBOW!!

  11. strandoftds says:

I haven`t seen so many new bloggers since I first came on. I wonder Why?

  12. baylinorcrush says:

If I was to make 9 mil this year I would be going all out with management to be nice about it no matter what they decided, because they could always cut Orton and save 3.5 mil, so there is no big congrats for me to extend to Orton, he is just doing his best to save 3.5 mil, it’s always all about money.

  13. RabidOrange says:

I know. It was just a desperate attempt to get on the board. I figured that I couldn’t go wrong on a bye week. lol. Anyway, I’ll see you all on here next week. Semper Broncos!!

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot: Insert general “about time”, Orton bashing, Tebow praising, stat quoting, motivated comment here. I’d try to come up with something original, but I think it’s all been said today.

  14. killerkod says:

Where’s Orton’s interview and reaction to all this I wonder? I guess he doesn’t have much to say. LOL

  15. baylinorcrush says:

Of course my prediction is I guarantee all of you we won’t lose Sunday!

  16. strandoftds says:

Money makes the world go around. Just think, signing a 9 million dollar contract and being lousy about your QB play and your set for life. Not a bad exchange, huh?

  17. baylinorcrush says:

Who cares what Orton has to say, he is on the sideline now, remember no one asked Tebow anything the last month, or anything that mattered, LOL. Orton doesn’t matter anymore, for now anyway, hallelujah!

  18. strandoftds says:

As a joke if Orton was going to continue to play, I was going to post a ghost prediction for this week.
    Bye week wins over Broncos
    42-0

  19. baylinorcrush says:

And killerkod, Orton said it all above anyway, maybe you just didn’t read it:

    Orton on his disappointment:
“I’m just disappointed with everything. I wish I could have played better, wish we had a better record, wish a lot of things, but the reality is what it is.”

  20. strandoftds says:

We have 12 days to talk about Tebow starting. That will get old real quick.

  21. strandoftds says:

ESPN and NFL Network was on overkill today. They talked about Tebow starting at QB every 5 minutes. Big news I guess.

  22. BeastFromEast92 says:

I’m almost as happy to see Orton riding the pine as I was seeing McD hit the bricks!!!!!!

It’s time for a brand new era…….the Tim Tebow Era!!!

  23. strandoftds says:

    Amen, BFE.

  24. Broncos Born & Raised says:

In a way I’m glad Strand. Tebow has made us relevant to these networks that generally look down their noses at us. Here’s to Tim living up to the hype and keeping us relevant with multiple championships.

  25. strandoftds says:

Bro, I missed all of the action last night.

  26. Broncos Born & Raised says:

The Tim Tebow Era. Has a nice ring to it. It’s a hard pill to swallow that there even was an Orton era.

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

Loved what Decker had to say about Tebow’s ability to extend plays!

  28. baylinorcrush says:

There was no Orton era, just an Orton error a la McD.

  29. strandoftds says:

Just like the Elway days, if He`s scrambling, go deep, 1st down or a TD.

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

Tell you the truth,I wished it hadn’t happened,I was mad before I got on the blog,ex-LAX was looking for a fight and I was there to be his Huckleberry…said some things I wished I hadn’t,hope sndvl isn’t still mad at me,even tho he got back at me…but we’ve been begging for Tebow since last year, and finally got it,then here come the Tebow bashers, set me off I guess!!!

  31. strandoftds says:

Crazy, if you think about it. Orton in, Cutler out, not a even exchange. We got ripped off. Not that I care for Cutler anymore, but we did get the short end of the deal. LOL

  32. baylinorcrush says:

It wasn’t that easy strand, I lost many years of my life chumping at the bit watching Elway, yes he came through in the clutch most of the times, but so many times so late in the game I no longer had any fingernails. He was great, the greatest in my mind, but he was far from perfect is my point. He made it the most exciting ever, but I wish it didn’t always have to be that exciting if you know what I mean, LOL.

  33. strandoftds says:

But we get our wish, who cares what they think now.

  34. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah we got the short stick a lot the last 2 years bro!

  35. baylinorcrush says:

He drove me nuts more than once, and be ready for Tebow to drive us just as nuts at times, just saying.

  36. strandoftds says:

I was right there too. I never missed a game when Elway was our QB. I know what you mean Bay.

  37. strandoftds says:

But thats what makes it fun, talk about on the edge of your seat. Thats what makes the NFL set apart from any other sport. I wouldn`t have it any other way.

  38. baylinorcrush says:

BFE, it wasn’t you speaking, it was that nasty Bud Light, gotta turn you on to some good beers bro, haha.

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

I hear ya bay..many times my heart was about to beat outta my chest, because I know he could do it,the only question was if he was going to or not.Thats the kind of excitement we have been missing, but I think Tebow will bring some of it back!!!

  40. strandoftds says:

You can also blame Dan Reeves for us being behind all of the time in the 4th quarter.

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

    LMAO

  42. strandoftds says:

    On tap!

  43. strandoftds says:

Ive still got the video of “John Elways Greatest Comebacks.” Priceless to me.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah Reeves was like the brakes on Elway’s sports car, let’s hope Fox isn’t the brakes on Tebow’s sports car…

  45. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah Elway was the best ever, but far from perfect,I cussed him plenty, but as I look back,I wouldn’t have it any other way!

  46. strandoftds says:

    God, I hope not.

  47. strandoftds says:

The percect marriage. And he can`t yell back at ya. LOL

  48. BeastFromEast92 says:

Elway and Reeves never did get along!

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

    lol.

  50. strandoftds says:

    Love my Broncos!
