Peyton Manning on Pat Summitt

April 18th, 2012 - 3:41pm by Gray Caldwell

On Wednesday, Pat Summitt stepped down as head coach of the University of Tennessee women’s basketball program.

A fellow former Volunteer, quarterback Peyton Manning, released the following statement:

“Through the dedication and selflessness Pat Summitt has shown at the University of Tennessee, she has made an immeasurable impact both on and off the basketball court during her Hall of Fame career. The strength and perseverance that have defined her as a coach, mentor and role model were never more visible than through the incredible courage she displayed this past season. Without question, Pat is one of the strongest people I know. It is no surprise that she has not backed down from a challenge.

“I have always had a great deal of respect and admiration for Pat, and I am truly honored to call her a friend. I look forward to watching her continue to inspire others in her new role at the University of Tennessee.”

Pat Summit you were hands down the best womens Basketball HC ever! Good luck with life outside of the stadium now.

  2. alaskanbronco06 says:

DO the video you posted last blog was really interesting. I enjoyed it. Lol the four player flea flicker out their own endzone lol

  3. BFE says:

Pat Summit will always be the best BB coach of all time, she will still be around the team, just not the HC,kudos to Peyton for taking time to speak of her.

  4. DenverOranges says:

you cant spell Tebow without TE… I have been converted lmao

  5. BFE says:

Thanks Mr. Caldwell for the post,it hits home for me,as I am a member of the Vol nation.

    GO BIG ORANGE!!!!

  6. SWBronco says:

DO, that was hilarious, if slightly annoying that we ended up with Cam (don’t particularly care for his attitude). And ya I’m glad we agree on Keenum AB, I think he’s got everything, but I just don’t see a star out of him.

  7. Orange27Crusher says:

I would love to get A. Samuels from Philly!!! He would be rock solid opposite Bailey and we would have a building block for the future.

Some people don’t like him, but he’s very talented!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!! 8)

  8. alaskanbronco06 says:

O27C my only problem with Samuel is that we will have to trade for him which may cost a lot and his age. He is 31. But he is a baller and is a good CB. If he was a FA I would be screaming about getting him.

  9. SWBronco says:

O27C, I just think that we already got a solid db in Porter, why go after someone like Samuels

  10. strandoftds says:

Asante Samuals is worth 9.5 million this year, far to much to spend on a CB with little cap left. I like Samuals alot and he`d be a great asset to our team but if the Broncos traded for him, he`d have to renegociate his contract and thats not going to happen. Its not even apart of the equation, not even for half of that money.

  11. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand Im sure he knows he wont be the “star” CB wherever he goes which may lead to him being a lot more willing to renegotiate his contract.

  12. strandoftds says:

I hope your right if we did go after Samuals. He has to renegociate or he`ll kill our cap room. He`d have to agree before he is traded, thats for sure. If we did get him, he`d make our CB`s position instantly brutal. I doubt it happens, just a pipe dream I`d say.

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand im with you on it being a pipe dream. But if we do he will have to agree to a new contract not just to negotiate before the trade then he would be traded and sign the contract.

  14. strandoftds says:

    Agreed!

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

IMO I dont see a trade happening. I think the Eagles will ask to much for him.

I heard it quoted today, from Colin Cowherd I think, that the NFL made the schedule as such to help set up Tebow taking over for the Jets. The second half of their schedule is easier, and all of their prime time games come later in the season. It was also pointed out that not once all year do the Broncos and Jets play at the same time, to suggest that they want Tebow and Manning to get their own time slot to maximize ratings…. Thoughts?

  17. BleednOrange14 says:

I would like Samuel, but I don’t know where he would fit in. We have Champ at one corner, Porter at another. He does not work well in the slot and Harris is there, he would be unhappy as the 4-5 corner and we have Syd-Quan Thompson and Cassius Vaughn for those spots and possibly another in the draft. He would have to move to safety or we would have to move Champ to safety for him to have a spot on our team.

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT THat wouldnt surprise me one bit. The Jets sked defiantly makes you think if Sanchez fails earlier which is their tough games then Tebow will take over with the easier ones.

However the schedules all come done via a computer first then the best ones are hand chosen and so on until they get one final one.

  19. OrangeTsunami says:

Yep. Well, thought I’d bring it up seeing how much people here love their conspiracy theories.. ;)

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Thats a good one OT.

I do think that they picked the sked that gave the stars as much air time as possible.

  21. SWBronco says:

When people mention conspiracies these days all I can picture is this guy haha

  22. OrangeTsunami says:

“Mel Kiper and Todd McShay were the first to suggest that Chandler Jones would be a first-round pick. Mike Mayock agreed a couple of weeks later. Now, Adam Schefter has joined the fray: “Pass-rushers always are at a premium … and that likely will help Jones, who is one of the top pass-rushers in this draft. He will be a first-round pick, and on draft day pass-rushers always seem to go higher than people think.”

The Jets had Jones in for a visit, and according to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini, the team is looking at Mark Barron, Courtney Upshaw and Jones in this spot. The former is off the board, while Upshaw could fall because of his scheme limitations.”

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT now it leads to ask IF Jones will even be there at 25. But if he is Denver needs to look his way.

  24. OrangeTsunami says:

I just want a pass rusher round one, it doesn’t have to be Jones.. I think we’re one more serious pass rusher away from really being a force to be reckoned with, and as Schefter says, pass rushers are at a premium on draft day.. We can get a DT and RB later, but not a legit pass rusher IMO

EFX surprised many taking Miller last year, I hope they do it again!

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT exactly. We can get some good value at DT in the 4th round and Turbin in the 3rd. A lot of good late value at DT later rounds. But not pass rushers.

  26. OrangeTsunami says:

Sacks, forced fumbles, and rushed throws leading to interceptions

  27. alaskanbronco06 says:

Especially with the lead forcing opposing teams to pass. Then all the INTs make our DBs look a 100x better and giving Manning even more chances to score.

  28. OrangeTsunami says:

I want a swarming defense, like an angry wasps nest!

  29. OrangeTsunami says:

On the other side of the ball, we have got to find a way to have an effective run game.. I would love for Manning to be able to ease himself in, and not have to throw 300+ out of the gate..

  30. daddybronc says:

Manning is going to be running for his life against the Steeler’s. Good chance he doesn’t make it through game #1. I still think he throws for over three hundred in his first game.

  31. daddybronc says:

I love the drama of the Steeler’s rematch on Sunday night. Well played Commish!

  32. OrangeTsunami says:

Simmer down daddybronc… Practice what you preach, and don’t wish harm on to others… ;)

  33. daddybronc says:

Oh – but if Manning loses – especially in OT…. EFX and their boy are in hot water!!! LOL

  34. daddybronc says:

Not wishing at all – just know what it’s like to be athletic and 36.

  35. OrangeTsunami says:

Do you think Tebow will get hurt with the Jets using him in short yardage situations?

  36. mainBroncos60 says:

Maybe, just maybe…if Jamie Moyer can win a game at 49 after Tommy John surgery (and I do understand the difference between baseball and football) Peyton Manning can win a few games at 36 after neck surgery.

  37. OrangeTsunami says:

Good point main! Today’s athletes take such good care of their bodies, and have access to new technology and nutrition information, that to look at the past for a ceiling of what is possible is short sighted IMO

  38. mainBroncos60 says:

Not to mention Juan Nicasio pitching pretty well after neck surgery (although he’s certainly younger than the other two). Let’s give everyone a chance, guys.

  39. daddybronc says:

I think that TT will still be running through the line even if he breaks a femur or is blinded by a concussion. Manning is tough but doesn’t have this luxury.

I think TT was injured in the first Pats game and it affected the outcome of the next three. Tebow’s play was uninspired as was the defensive play-I think only offensive couches might have known this because there was a distinct limiting of TT option plays. It is possible that the play calling was affected by media scrutiny but I think it was injury.

  40. daddybronc says:

I hope Manning makes it to the Super Bowl 5 times in the next five years and I hope he breaks every QB record ever. I hope he supplants Elway in my estimation and ushers in a new era of Bronco winning.

but…for now he is a Colts old and injured throw away who walked in on a gold mine contract and sucked the money out of the institution just like he did the Colts. Face it…Colt were mediocre because they couldn’t afford a supporting cast. Besides – I think the only reason he chose the Broncos was for the purpose of bumping Tebow and gaining his own headlines.

  41. daddybronc says:

It’s funny to think that Moyer is a year older than I am. Cool. but the fact won’t help Manning to recover.

  42. OrangeTsunami says:

Well, he’s has got to learn to pass, or he will not have the “luxury” be playing when he turns 36..

I heard an interesting theory today on why the religious folks support Tebow so much, other than having the same beliefs. Basically they know that Tebow can’t play well, and when he is successful, it’s a form of divine Intervention, by defying all odds.. Thoughts?

  43. daddybronc says:

Manning ought to try pitching – he’ll last longer! LOL

  44. daddybronc says:

Not direct Divine intervention as such.

I think that character that comes from a Christian world-view generally makes people more successful at what ever they do. Mankind is sinful, including Christians, and therefore even Christians violate their own consciences and world-view everyday.

Tebow is a Christian man who has disciplined himself in ways that every believer wishes he had the fortitude to…combined with great talent…but with the drama of the obstacles to overcome…it is a plot / counter-plot dream…

  45. daddybronc says:

You can bet those words end up in some post in the near future. LOL

  46. daddybronc says:

OT – I’d be surprise if Tebow plays past thirty. Football just isn’t his life.

  47. OrangeTsunami says:

That was actually my next question.. Do you see Tebow walking away from the game to go onto other things?

  48. daddybronc says:

    Count on it.

  49. daddybronc says:

I expect that he will not continue to be a public figure but he will try to disappear into obscurity – working faithfully to benefit other people. I could be wrong as folks are already talking about politics – but politics doesn’t toch and benefit the lives of real people like I expect Tebow desires to do.
