Peyton Manning Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

October 17th, 2012 - 8:00am by Stuart Zaas

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 24-of-30 passes for 309 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in Denver’s 35-24 comeback win at San Diego.

His 129.0 rating and 80-percent completion rate led all AFC quarterbacks in Week 6 and his three touchdown passes tied for the conference lead.

The weekly honor is the 22nd of Manning’s career, which is the most of any player since the awards originated in 1984.

He has become the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 300 yards with three touchdowns and a 70 percent completion percentage in three consecutive games.

With Monday night’s performance, Manning tied a franchise record with his fourth consecutive game with 300 passing yards. It marked the 67th 300-yard game of his career and the 67th in which he has thrown three touchdown passes.

Leading the Broncos back from a 24-0 deficit at halftime in San Diego, Manning executed his 47th career game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime to tie Dan Marino for the most by a player since the 1970 NFL merger.

His weekly accolade marks the 46th time a Bronco has received the honor and the first since wide receiver Brandon Marshall in Week 13 of the 2009 season.

Manning is also nominated for this week’s FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week and the team’s historic comeback is up for the GMC’s Never Say Never Moment of the Week.

I guess we are not the only ones who think he is great!

  2. millertime2 says:

Does anyone know who won the prediction contest, I had 31-24 Denver.

  3. RH709 says:

An interesting little stat I found…

“The only safeties not to miss a tackle (who have attempted at least 15 tackles are Rahim Moore and Tyvon Branch.” – PFF

  4. RH709 says:

To add to that stat, remember Moore even stuffed Gronk for no gain. Gronk has to out weigh Moore by almost 60 pounds.

    Lol… A new blog entry… Go figure.

    Congrats Mr. Manning!

  6. Royalbroncofan1 says:

    Congratulations Peyton Manning !!!!

  7. tlcat06 says:

Miller, I don’t. I had 35-21 Broncos. It’ll be interesting to see who won.

Peyton Manning is going to be the GOAT before this is over, I, of course, already think he is.

Congrats to Peyton on a huge win Monday night!!!

Extremely proud of the way our guys kept fighting through the entire game. The way that game started when the ball is not rolling your way, grass tripping a wide open receiver, it can be a difficult thing to overcome.

Taking control of the AFC West is huge!!! This team will see that all the hard work that they have been putting in from the early part of the season is going to start paying off. We have seen glimpses of what this team can do throughout the early part of the season. The key is, as always, to stay healthy and I believe, we will see this team gel together at the right time. This team will do nothing but get better. We have not had the luxury like the, Giants, Packers, Texans and Patriots to continually build on a solid footprint. We are finally going in the right direction.

It is Broncos ball on Offense and it is Broncos ball on defense. Take that ball…..Tt is Broncos ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This is BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!

    How about this metric?
    http://www.footballperspective.com/correlating-passing-stats-with-wins/

and this years leader in said metric…drum role please… http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_adj_net_yds_per_att_year_by_year.htm

What is even more funny about this is Peyton leads even though Decker fell while wide open and a multitude of similar occurances all year. Scary thought.

Cat, I completely agree, my glass like yours is half full. BT, that guy is something ive been reading everything just trying to stay out of it. That guy has somethng for TT, he should be a jets fan. This team is 100 % better than last yr, yes we still have the same problem in the middle of the D, but, we all knew that coming into the season no secret their. The back end of our D is exceptional, what we need to do, is eliminate all the turnovers and play with the lead and everything takes care of its self. We will peak at the end of the yr, we will sweep the division and make the playoffs no doubt. BT, Socal was rt, you rooted for TT last yr way more then your rooting now, and, we had the same problems, your the only one that cant see that, its all good bro, but a true bronco fan should see that the team we are fielding rt now, is light yrs better then last yr thats a fact.

  11. millertime2 says:

BT, I was to comment on something you said in a earlier post, Quote you said that if Rivers didnt fumble on the pursuing drive after we scored in the second half, that, we wouldnt of come back. But if we didnt give them 17 pts off of turnovers in the first half they would of only had 7 pts rt, just saying doesnt make sense to me brother, should of, could of, would of, really bro. If damerius thomas dosent fumble going in for a touch down in NE we win that game brother think about it, that would have been a totally different game.

  12. 350legend says:

Still a serious threat!!! Go Broncos!!

  13. millertime2 –

Score predictions aren’t accepted in the comments for the Official Broncos Blog Scoring Contest. Be sure to use the form each week. I’m actually about to post the results, so stay tuned everyone.

  14. millertime2 says:

Thanks Gray, ill post their next time

    Guys and Gals,

Everyone needs to let the TT thing go! He is not a Bronco anymore and i wish him success except when he plays the Broncos. Tim was a Denver Bronco last year and i got behind him and loved what he brought to the game. I still believe that if a team gets behind him and gets that style offense in their system can be successful in the NFL. The object is to keep teams off balance by being a throwing QB first and a running QB second. Elway was the King of this style of QB and it came at times in the game that were crucial to keeping a drive alive. We can have Manning, Brady and Rogers throwing for 300+ yards a game and 3 or 4 touchdowns but the key is making the plays in the crucial time of the game. These QB’s are all 3-3 at the current time so there is alot more to it then what meets the eye. We have Manning as a Bronco now and we can be a Superbowl contender but it will come down to coaching and the instincts that great players bring to the table.

For me and my house we support the Broncos!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  18. SquareV says:

    By there way (24-30, 80.0%, 309 yds., 3 TDs, 1 INT, 129.0 rtg) is year 2012, not 2011
