Paving the Way

October 14th, 2011 - 9:56am by Stuart Zaas

Playing in their fifth game together as a unit, the Broncos’ offensive line turned in their finest performance of the season Week 5 vs. San Diego. Denver quarterbacks were not sacked, and the line led the way for Willis McGahee’s second consecutive 100-yard rushing game.

“I think at this point in time, we’ve done a pretty good job of improving every week,” Offensive Line Coach Dave Magazu said. “I think we struggled early in grasping concepts and techniques that are new. I think that now we’re starting to understand all the concepts.”

Denver’s offensive line is the second-youngest in the NFL, averaging just 25.4 years of age. With three players in either their rookie or second season, the line continues to improve as a unit each week that they spend together.

Much of that improvement stems from the leadership of the unit’s veteran, Chris Kuper, who is in his sixth NFL season and was elected as a team captain in 2011.

“I think (Chris) does a great job. He’s a leader on the football field, in the locker room, in our meeting room,” Magazu said. “He’s been doing a great job of helping with the development of Orlando Franklin.”

With the front five showing improvement each week, so has the Broncos’ run game. McGahee has produced three 100-yard games, which is tied for the most among all NFL running backs in 2011.

Denver ranks 10th in the NFL, averaging 4.3 yards per carry this season, which is a 10.3 percent improvement over its 2010 rushing average. That improvement is ninth best among all NFL clubs.

Magazu credits Ryan Clady with sparking the production of the run game this season.

“Ryan’s obviously an outstanding football player,” Magazu said. “I thought he had his best game last week as far as a run blocker, so it is coming together for him.”

Yeah, and some ignorant bloggers suggest Elway is afraid that Tebow may surpass his legacy, LMAO!

  2. baylinorcrush says:

That was a perfect post to start a new page!

  5. strandoftds says:

And that BOMB by ELWAY to ROD SMITH was something to behold for a TD. WOW!!

Friday night, started out with some Imperial beers from O&BinCostaRica, haha, then onto some Inversion IPA from Deschuttes and just wondering if I should pop the 64 ozs Milk Stout growler, probably too much, LOL.

Bay I just read that post from the last blog. Good to know we’ll be World Champs and that we have someone to give the team pointers every week! Haha. On one hand I see where carnagebronc is coming from too, but long before Tebowmania he has lived to rain on everyone’s parade. Kinda takes the fun out of blogging sometimes. Like yesterday we were comparing Bay Bay to Megatron. Now from our track record TRB and I are clearly smart enough to know that players like Calvan Johnson come around less than once a generation. The guy is the next Randy Moss with a lot of potential to be even better if he continues to work hard. But has fans we like to muse and HOPE someone like Demaryius can really pan out for us. Then carnage gets on and talks about how hilarious we are in the most sarcastic and insulting way possible. And he does that very consistently. Honestly as time goes on I feel less and less bad about getting into it with him under his old VA handle. The guy knows a lot of football (he certainly blows me out of the water when it comes to college ball) but the know it all attitude does not sway any opinions on here and it gets old fast. Ah well I guess it just adds to the dynamic of the blogs.

  8. strandoftds says:

BFE should be on in a few hours popping a Bud Light and bragging about it LOL.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

I got a picture of that 80 yd catch by #80 in my Bronco album, took it on the big screen TV at the bowling Alley where we were watching the game at, now that’s some fandom there!

  10. strandoftds says:

Just messin bro. I like Bud Light also. LOL

  11. daddybronc says:

Bay – I think you’ve caught it. TT hasn’t even started his first game yet and you are already reminiscing Super Bowls. Uh huh – admit it -

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Bud Light sucks, only reason BFE drinks it is he lives too far away to get good beers, LOL.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

Daddy, you’re way off base, LOL.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, I think actually Carnage might be more condenscending than me, LMAO!

  15. strandoftds says:

I stll have 4 copys of the whole damn newspapers of SB 32 that reads “This Ones For John” and Elway holding up the trophy and a fist pump in the air tucked away in my closet. Pure Gold!!

  16. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Super Bowl XXXII has to go down as one of the greatest games every played. I was 12 years old at the time and at the point it was certainly the highlight of my life. Still probably is. Then XXXIII was just a pleasure to watch because we were dominant and the fans didn’t have to sweat at really any point in the game haha. To be honest I thank Reeves for building a winning culture in Denver and getting us to so many SBs. He’s been to more SBs than any other coach (granted not all of them as a HC) and I kinda feel bad he never won one. Same with Schottenheimer. Glad he didn’t win one with San Diego though haha.

  17. daddybronc says:

I’m hopeful – and I believe that the Broncos can now play with anyone. I’m like a kid at Christmas.

I think we’ll all be better able to tell what we’ve got after the Lions game. It’s a new season. I’m cheering the Lions this week against SF. I’m hoping to see the Broncs take them down. Broncos go 3/4 – Lions 6/1. Then we can revisit the playoff issue.

  18. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Bay we started off on a weird foot, but I don’t find you condescending at all. Definitely honest as they come on this blog that’s for sure.

  19. stevecan2 says:

anvil ! when talking music from canada they have to get props. most american bands that we hear too much of were either highly motivated by them or ripped of their stuff. ttrue pioneers

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks, but obviously everyone has their own opinions and I often bring on controversy but actually I look for it, like to provoke it to wake everybody up, just me.

  21. daddybronc says:

Carnage is the same way – just has more control issues.

  22. baylinorcrush says:

A half awake dummy is way better than a fully asleep smart man.

  23. strandoftds says:

    Java for me. LOL

  24. strandoftds says:

    Bays a poet.

  25. daddybronc says:

Just spreading around the love I’m feeling – Carnage. Seems like the sun has come out.

  26. stevecan2 says:

when tfk announced they were trying out new guitarists a few friends of mine tried to convince me to make a trip up north. I have a contact in tooth and nail records that promised me a try out. unfortunately I never made it to try. worked out though when they quit their search.

  27. strandoftds says:

Many bands I listen to are from Tooth and Nail records, all christian rock.

  28. stevecan2 says:

controversy? hmm there is a conspiracy of mine. bay and armidillo are one and the same. a lot of same vocabulary going on. but again who knows who is who?

  29. BroncosLAX says:

D Thomas has all the potential in the world but he is raw and injury prone… If he can stay injury free he will devolop into a #1 wideout. I remember Rod Smith helping out Brandon Marshal (Who is making his own headlines) any word if he is involved with the organization still? He could work wonders with Thomas since he is a very high character guy and would love to learn from smith. Anyone know if that is happening?

  30. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Got nothing but love for bay but I agree with him … he got that condescending thing too lol … and yes carnage is even more so. I got nothing against him .. he brings an interesting point of view … but sometimes I think he likes to be against the consensus in this case broncos fans just for the fun of being one that doesn’t roll with the pack. Just what I have gathered and I may be wrong and this is in no way an insult to carnage cuz I’m not one to start personal attacks lol.

    TRB

  31. daddybronc says:

I think Bay is Jake Plummer trying to figure out the new Broncos!

  32. strandoftds says:

I disagree. But says it plain and simple and Armidillo is filled with rage and anger, quite different I think. Furthermore Bay thinks before he posts and Dillo reacts.

  33. stevecan2 says:

    yeah strand,
I saw that list. there are a lot of good ones out there and that covered alot of my favorites. I tried to quit secular music all together but unfortunately 15 years of listening is hard to leave behind

  34. daddybronc says:

Maybe he’s Elway – testing the pulse of the fans?

  35. strandoftds says:

    LMAO @ Plummer remark!!

  36. canadasbroncfan says:

another thing i was wondering i heard they were using the orange crush jerseys as their homes soon. Thats awesome. I can finialy wear my bailey. On another note anyone want to bye a authentic white cutler jersey. Any offers.lol

  37. strandoftds says:

    Very hard.

  38. sndvl says:

    I’m jealous baylin!

Though a new grocery store has opened up just a short walk from where I live now with a utopian beverage assortment. Things I’ve never even heard of before. I had to get the 22oz Angry Ba*t*rd as my inaugural purchase. Best part? They have a growler filling station with 5-7 selections that will periodically change. You’ll be the first to know when the Milk Stout is pouring…

    GO BRONCOS!

  39. strandoftds says:

ooops. I meant Bay says it plain and simple.

  40. canadasbroncfan says:

    at least u guys only pay 12.00 for a 24 I pay 39.00 for a 24 of bud light

  41. strandoftds says:

    I need a drink.

  42. daddybronc says:

Had to go and bring up Cutler – looked like ‘babyface’ baby been doing a bit of growing up Monday night.

    I’d still rather have Tebow.

  43. strandoftds says:

Wow, Living in Canada is expensive. To pay for that kind of money I`d rather live in Hawaii. Now thats expensive.

  44. denver0723 says:

What if we traded Lloyd to the Panthers for a 5th round pick and their RB Goodson? If we dump off Lloyd we will be running more and Goodson could help us. McGahee is our main back, Knowshown are 3rd down, and Goodson could be our speed/change of pace back. He is pretty quick. I know this doesn’t flow with the convo, but just a thought.

  45. strandoftds says:

No offense Canada. I still want to go ther some day. I`ve already been to the Islands. LOL

  46. daddybronc says:

The only way to visit Canada is to hire a guide and take your favorite hunting rifle. Buy everything state side.

  47. strandoftds says:

I like fishing for Northern Pike. In Canada I hear that the Pike are huge.

  48. BroncosLAX says:

Clayton reported Lloyd to panthers not happening. I see Chicago as a perfect trade partner maybe a 2nd or 3rd can be squeezed from them if the Broncos offer pick compensation but a 4th would also be good. Gives Cutler that reciever he hasnt had with Chicago… Bet he wishes he sucked it up now.

  49. daddybronc says:

LAX – Lloyd wouldn’t help Cutler. It takes time to get Lloyd open and time is one thing Cutler doesn’t have. Chicago needs an O-line.

  50. denver0723 says:

I wouldn’t count out the Panthers regardless of what they said. If you are running a team and there is a chance you could trade/cut a player to make room for Lloyd, you aren’t gonna announce it right before a game because you want every players focus on playing, and not worrying about who might be out the door.. Perhaps they are serious about not being interested. But perhaps they just wanna wait until after they play.
