New England got the ball back on the Broncos first snap following the Patriots’ touchdown. Running back Lance Ball took the handoff, but fumbled as he went up the gut. Tackle Ron Brace forced the fumble and linebacker Rob Ninkovich recovered it at the Broncos 19-yard line.
From there, the Patriots had first-and-goal from the 8-yard line. However, after a 2-yard bubble screen to Hernandez, 3-yard run by Danny Woodhead and incomplete pass to Hernandez, Gostkowski kicked the go-ahead field goal.
