Pat Bowlen Training Center Opens at DU

May 7th, 2010 - 3:03pm by Gray Caldwell

This morning, the University of Denver’s 17 varsity athletic programs gained a 10,000-square foot strength and conditioning complex, thanks to Broncos President and CEO Pat Bowlen.

The Pat Bowlen Training Center — named for Bowlen, who is also a member of the DU Board of Trustees — officially opened today after a ceremony at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness.

The facility is attached to the Ritchie Center and is located beneath the seating at the recently-opened CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

adm, Nice youtube video of Orton as a Bear…

I thought it was humorous that the video was titled “Orton is not as bad as you think”. haha??

They must have made that video right after the Bears found out that he was not as good as they thought…lol

    just kidding again.. gosh, I’m a trublemaker… I’m sorry..

the way I see it….we have so much depth…a winning record should only possible at this point
it only comes down playcalling and determination.

  4. Atwater4HOF says:

I agree, I love our depth this year in the trenches with a good blend of veteran and young talent to develop. The secondary is also a great blend of veteran starters and youngsters waiting in the wings. Very eager to see how Decker and Thomas pan out along with McDaniels getting the chance to prove Richard Quinn was worthy of a 2nd rounder last year.

  5. footballMANIAC says:

Careful OC, you might get your head bitten off with comments like that about Orton. Ha ha. Or just by commenting in general because it seems like no matter what people say anymore somebody has a problem with it!

  6. footballMANIAC says:

Ronald Fields was arrested in a nightclub for possession of a weapon.

OC I smile when I see your disclaimer.

  8. Orange_Crusher says:

    florio,

I LOVE TO MAKE ME SOME DENVER BRONCO FANS SMILE!!!

    ILMSDB!!!

  9. Atwater4HOF says:

Hopefully Fields isn’t suspended, he was a solid nose tackle last year and will take some of the pressure off Jamal Williams to play every down

  10. NastyNate says:

wtf.. what a DUMBASSSSSS.. why do football players and basketball players all think its so fu@#ing cool to carry around gun to a club?? all that does is cause trouble.. i know feilds wasnt around when Williams got killed but we dont dont need that around the broncos.. sorry to say but we need to release a player who does that after the loss of Derrent Williams..

  11. Orange_Crusher says:

    A4HOF…

Hey bud, no hard feelings for our little scrimmage yesterday… We’re just Bronco Brothers bumping elbows at the dinner table… LOL

hey, I LOVE ME SOME DENVER BRONCO FANS!!!

    BRONC ON BRO!!!

  12. baylinorcrush says:

I agree with NasteNate 100%, I hated the performance of the D line last year and wanted a new one, mission accomplished, and I could care less how much we could use Fields as relief for aging Williams, just use Baker instead and get rid of this stupid player. Isn’t he big enough to fend off others in clubs? My gosh he is a NT, no one comes bigger and stronger that that. What an idiot and please McD show him the door, I as a fan like to see integrity, we just got rid of the ones who had none, so let’s nip this one in the bud, thank you.

  13. Orange_Crusher says:

NN…. man, you took the words right from my fingers…

Fields is a complete LOSER! What joke of a human being needs to carry a gun around into bars????

What in the heck does he intend to do with that gun??? Kill someone with it?? What a jerk.. I say he needs just flat out cut from the Broncos.. We don’t need any stinking gang acting gun carrying thug losers on our team… jomho

If someone thinks they need a gun to go in public then they need to stay home… jomho

    ILMSDB!!!

  14. footballMANIAC says:

I think that some people who don’t have experience with shooting guns while growing up for some reason think it’s “cool” to have one, even if it’s not needed. What a dumb idea.

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

I agree Fields is a dumba** for doing what he did,and wasn’t that good anyway,Baker can rotate with Williams, get rid of Fields.

Anybody know anything about the CFA Ben Garland DL we just signed???

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

They just passed a law in Tennessee, making it legal to carry firearms into bars (with a permit) and I think it’s stupid,I own guns but I keep’em home, unless I’m hunting, stupid laws.

  17. Orange_Crusher says:

Oh, I didn’t mean it was bad to carry guns.. I don’t want to voice any opinion in that whiz’n contest.. I’m Just saying that if a guy goes to the club for fun he usually carrys a pool cue, set of darts, bowling ball.. etc..

In my world, a guy only carries a gun to a gunfight…. jomho

I take this as a sign that Fields is acting like a gang punk…..

  18. Orange_Crusher says:

    Wow, BFE….

In Tennessee they want people to get drunk and carry loaded weapons???

    Wow… Unbelievable..

  19. Orange_Crusher says:

I have a funny feeling Fields is going to end up in Maimi…. Just a hunch..

  20. FTR says:

    OC
Loved the disclaimer it made me smile!
Try living in AZ on the gun thing. I never know who has a pop sitting next to me while I drink me beer and yell GO BRONCOS. Knowing my luck it will be Al! LOL
    FTR

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

I tried to look up more information but haven’t found much other than he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge. I vote against jumping the gun and releasing him, the guy doesn’t seem to have any previous character issues or slip ups in his past and he was a solid contributor last year and at the very least deserves a second chance. Just my opinion but I definitely don’t support carrying weapons, I don’t know how many examples have to be made before these players get the message to not put themselves in these situations

  22. Atwater4HOF says:

OC- Oh it’s all good I didn’t/don’t think much of it, no hard feelings here either

  23. BeastFromEast92 says:

OC…It’s true. Now when you go in a bar you don’t know whether to relax or watch your back.

  24. BeastFromEast92 says:

WOW…There are 38 states that allow guns in bars:included is Tennessee and Colorado.

    http://whenistheworldgoingtoend.blogspot.com/2009/06/states-that-allow-guns-in-restaurants.html

  25. BeastFromEast92 says:

OH if you carry a gun,you are not allowed to drink, like people are going to go in a bar with a gun and not drink, that’s still stupid.IMO

  26. NastyNate says:

I have nothing against guns in general as I am an avid hunter here in Colorado. But.. The guns in bars is absolutely REDICULOUS!! there is no need for ANYONE to carry a gun around on their person into a bar. Ok you want to carry one legally inside your vehicle so be it.. But taking one into a bar or a night club for what?? what do you plan on doing with it flash it around.. well thats a good way to get in trouble or get yourself shot.. So stupid.. so so so stupid.. McD show him the door as you did Marshall. We can still get a draft pick or two outta him maybe even a back up NT but someone with a BRAIN!! this is rediculous..

  27. FTR says:

    BFE92
Always watch your back. But still have a good time!!
Just be aware! I read that the eagles have a court room at the stadium is that true? I manned a beer stand here in AZ when the Cards went against the Eagles and some smacking and beer dumping and fights were abundant. But the Cards do not have a Court room. LOL
    FTR

  28. FTR says:

Not only can you have a gun in AZ but you can have a cancelled weapon in a Bar with out a permit. Witch used to take a back ground test and an 8 hour class before you could get one!
I truly live in the wild west!

  29. Orange_Crusher says:

Wow, I’m on the list, guns in the bar club..huh?

Maybe I’m living in some kind of pubescent state of innocence that just goes la la la though life without arming myself with anything but humor…??? lol

I spent from 3:30 pm to 5:00 with my wife at the pub tonight and la la la.. harmony in love land.. no gun required…lol

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

FTR at the ok corall in the Wild Wild West, shootin’ liquor bottles off the walls.hahaha

Sounds like fun I think I’ ll ride out and join ya Buckaroo!!!!!LOL

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

Seriously I have guns,I am a hunter too,but what do you need to hunt in a bar, besides a woman or a Buzz, and I don’t need a gun for either one.

  32. broncos20 says:

wow, I just noticed our former pick Kory Lichtensteiger is with the REdskins…Shanny drafted him, maybe he still sees somethin special in him because he is lined up in front of Mcnabb at C…maybe just training camp..idk

I like depth very much..we’ve got a bigger maybe nastier OL, w/ Clady and Harris back in the line-up we’ve less to worry about…

  33. broncos20 says:

Fields, w/ a gun incident?? not so smart on his part,,,,what has he learned playing under McD (character-driven), the door could be shown very soon if it becomes serious..

  34. baylinorcrush says:

Guys, cool news for those of us who don’t live in the Colorado TV viewing area, the first pre season game will be nationally televised on ESPN, now that’s some real good news, here it is:

The Broncos will open the preseason Sunday, Aug. 15, at Cincinnati, according to the full preseason schedule released Monday by the NFL. That exhibition game will kick off at 5 p.m. MDT and will be televised by ESPN.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

Espn picking up this first game is obviously all due to Tebow, either way you look at it this guy is a major economic boom for Bowlen, smart man.

  36. Orange_Crusher says:

Bay, The other day we were talking about the Broncos making a lot of money from Tebow jersey sales but then I heard that all jersey sales were shared equally between teams in the NFL..

Do you think the Broncos make more revenues when their games are played on prime time TV? It seems like ESPN and the NFL are the big winners in the Tebow cash cow. I could be wrong?? idk?

  37. sndvl says:

    http://football.calsci.com/SalaryCap.html

Should answer most questions about the revenue sharing!

    PAY DOOM,
    Start Orton,
    Fire…………Fields

    GO BRONCOS 2K10!!!!!!!!!!

  38. baylinorcrush says:

OC, it all ends up being that in the end, no matter how the share of the pie is divided, Tebow is the major cash cow for the Broncos now, I am surprised that you would even question that being one of the elder fans here, every part of the NFL is all about business, the bigger the names, the better the records, the better the franchise history, the higher the value of the team. The orange crush boosted the value of the team from something like 80 mil to like 150 mil when Bowlen bought it if I remember the numbers half way right then Elway put the value up to around 500 mil when he was all said and done I am guessing, and Tebow will now keep it going, it’s the grand design of the whole thing, money. In the end everything in professional life is about money, anyone thinking different is dillusional, and for now Tebow is the driving part of that engine. Look at the Cowboys, because they built their franchise with so many big names and titles they are worth probably more than any other team. But if you rather think Tebow is just a great future QB for us with no more value to the team than anybody else, I’m fine with it. Everything I say is just an opinion and they are like you know what, everyone has got one, LOL. Bottom line, whether the Broncos will make more money this year than last with part of Tebow jersey sales, TV scheduling rights or however else, it all ends up building up the Broncos worth. And if I were Bowlen, I’d be riding that cow as long as I can.

  39. baylinorcrush says:

    Thanx for the article sndvl.

  40. baylinorcrush says:

And I definitely agree with pay DOOM and fire Fields, and as far as Orton, I say like OC, let the best QB in the off season be the starter. And for that reason I truly hope McD doesn’t make a hasty decision like last year of naming his QB starter before training camp, be patient and wait until the third game of preseason instead, just my opinion.

  41. MarshMelo15 says:

Bay…..Mcd has already named Orton the starter. He said “Orton is our starter, It’s his job to lose. He did some great things for us last year and has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches.”

  42. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, in the NFL revenue article above, there is one line that really ticks me off:

Although the US as a whole has almost no inflation, the NFL lives in an artificial world with about a 10% inflation rate.

Talk about living in a pipe dream….. The players and owners gain and we common fans stagnate and even receed, there is something seriously wrong with that picture.

  43. baylinorcrush says:

I hear you MarshMelo, but it wasn’t like an official statement the way I took it, it was more like when he said Hillis for sure would be more utilized next year, just empty conversation. I do not buy that Orton is inked in as the sure starter for McD in September right now, just my opinion.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

Empty conversation is a bit strong, let me re-phrase, conversation of the moment would be more accurate.

  45. florio's_mom says:

    Fields needs to be cut.

McD needs to show consistency by choosing the high character guy.

We didn’t pick Tebow and pass over Bryant to keep thugs like Fields here.

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

BTW..McD said Orton would be the starter BEFORE he drafted Tebow.
So who knows,I agree with Baylin, let the better man rise to the top in preseason, and that’s our starter, and I think that’s the way McD looks at it also.

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

If Tebow pans out as a starting QB,he will be a 2 headed horse, since he is bringing in all that dough too.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

Excellent point BFE, the McD saying Orton earned his spot as the starter was BEFORE drafting Tebow.

  49. sndvl says:

    Its all McDoublespeak….
    just my opinion…

  50. baylinorcrush says:

    McDoublecheese…
    Hold the onions…

Man, I’m getting hungry, I thought that’s what you said, LOL.
