Two Broncos outside linebackers represent the team on a pair of lists released this week. Weakside linebacker Wesley Woodyard was named to USA Today’s All-Joe Team and strongside linebacker Von Miller earned a spot on NFL.com’s All-Under-25 Team.
Woodyard led the Broncos with 114 tackles and tied for the team lead with three interceptions in 2012. He earned his first AFC Defensive Player of the Week award following his performance against New Orleans in which he became just the ninth player since 1982 to record at least 10 tackles, one sack, one interception and one forced fumble in the same game.
Also in 2012, Woodyard became the first Broncos linebacker since Al Wilson in 2004 to record multiple interceptions in a season and joined Hall-of-Fame running back Floyd Little as the only players in team history to serve as a captain in their first five seasons with the club.
“You won’t find many NFL linebackers who are 6 feet tall and 229 pounds,” USA Today wrote about the five-year veteran. “Other than Woodyard, you won’t find anyone in the last five seasons who managed to make 100 tackles, five sacks and three interceptions in one season.”
Miller earned his selection after setting the Broncos’ single-season sacks record with 18.5 quarterback takedowns in 2012. He became the first Bronco to earn Pro Bowl selections in each of his first two NFL seasons and was named an Associated Press All-Pro after finishing in the top five in sacks, quarterback knockdowns, quarterback hurries, tackles for a loss, run stuffs and forced fumbles in the league during his second NFL season.
The 2011 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year tallied 24.5 sacks in his first 25 career games, which ranked second in NFL history behind Derrick Thomas (25.0) in a player’s first first 25 career games.
“In two NFL seasons, Miller has 30 sacks,” NFL.com wrote about the 23-year old linebacker. “He’s an athletic mismatch for anyone trying to stop him in pass protection, and he’s no slouch against the run. Every team is looking for the next Miller.”

OT, thanks for sharing the link. i’m vying for Eddie Lacy if he is there at #28 and we don’t go DT or MLB there. If we don’t snag lacy I prefer the RB from Stanford or maybe even Montee Ball from Wisconsin. If we do draft Lattimore, I bet we pull the trigger on him with a mid round pick. I’d be happy with Marcus Lattimore. If McGahee can come back in college from a injury like that Marcus can too. I hear that Lattimore has great character, a man of faith, and a great work ethic, you can’t go wrong there. HaHa!!
I kind of liked TRB’s idea of Signing Lagarette Blount… He’s big, physical and will literally punch you in the mouth!
Plenty of RB talent in rounds 2 and 3… Football games are Won and Lost at the LINE OF SCRIMMAGE… A great line can make a good back look great… a Mediocre line can make a Great back look, well Bad….
BRING US SOME BEEF!!!
Blount is a RFA. If we signed him, what draft pick would we give up?
I bet it’s less than what they gave for him Strand, and he wasn’t ever drafted… Maybe Some Cash and a 7th round pick…
Thats doable. He seems to have mellowed out as well. Blount was a problem child in college as we all know.
Tyler Wilson (ARK) is the Best Pro QB in this years Draft Class… If it hadn’t been for all the Coaching Changes and Drama he would have been highly touted, but instead their coach crashed his Motorcycle with his ‘girlfriend’ and he was subsequently canned, and Arkansas showed how detrimental the change was…
Wilson has all the skills to make any throw in the NFL, strong arm, good size and is very adept at sliding around in the pocket to give himself that extra half second to make the big pass, plus he’ll stand in and take a shot if it means he gets to throw the ball he wants…
I won’t give any QB the time of day until Peyton throw in the cleats.
But last year me and Bay had a very spirited Debate, where I was in the camp that RGIII will be injury prone and have a short NFL career and him telling me how dumb I was for thinking so… The debate included Wilson, and I said after 3 years in the league he would have more victories than RGIII…
I would have taken Foles over Oswieler Last year as our eventual starter… I wish I had more confidence in Peyton to get it done when it matters, but it’s just the same Old, Same Old… I’m excited for our 12 plus wins next year, but can’t get this sick knot out of my stomach thinking that that is as good as it gets with Ol Man’ing…
No to Blount. THere is a reason he lost his job and why they went after Martin. He puts the ball on the ground.
Hola AB! Can’t deny that Blount has some droppsey’s… but TB didn’t draft Martin just because of LB’s fumbles… Martin is a complete back, with speed and versatility… Blount is simply a bruiser and I’m sure that he could find a place here to fit the mold of a short yardage workhorse… the kind of guy that can break some tackles and get a couple of tough yards, I’d be perfectly OK with them getting Blount for a 6th or 7th
Hankins or Jenkins AB? both are about the same size… I have an aversion to OSU players, same as I do PSU players so I would rather have the guy from the SEC, but I’ve been reading some good things about Hankins
I think Jenkins is a better athlete right now, and is harder to block… but he might not be around at 28
I wasnt trying to say that was the only reason they went after Martin but it is part of it. The Bucs HC made no bones about it that Blount had to hold onto the rock or he wont see carries. Blount had 9 fumbles his first two years. THis past year he had zero but only touched the ball 42 times. So maybe thats the key. Very little touches. I like Blounts short yard pick up ability but his fumbles scare me.
I like Jenkins more. I watched a couple OSU games and the ones I saw Hankins was very unimpressive. He had a couple big plays but mostly saw him manhandled. Jenkins I saw more big plays and less manhandles. Also I think Jenkins is more athletic than Hankins. Ive been keeping an eye on both on majority of the boards and both of them are rated late first round picks early second in most I have seen. But of course that is highly likely to change with the combine coming up next week.
Of course I would prefer Short to both of them. He isnt as big but I have seen so little bad about the guy. In the OSU Purdue game I saw him completely manhandle the OSU OL all game and give the OSU QB fits all game till he got hurt. But with every player there is some bad to him. His awareness of the ball carrier sometimes is very bad and gets out of place opening a big hole.
BT did you watch the rising stars game? Faried was a MONSTER!!!! 5 minutes into it I called him for MVP. 40 points on 18 of 22 shooting and 10 boards. He is going to be a star. It sucks because still a lot of basketball fans dont know him and because of that thinks he sucks. Which is a shame! He is a dbl dbl machine! He had what 10+ games with dbl dbl in December?
He’s a BEAST for sure!!! I love watching him play!
If we go DT at #28, I’d be stoked if we selected Jenkins, the man is huge and has good feet and hands. I wouldn’t mind drafting him at all.
I like Foles a lot.

Uhhhhhh….. DAMN, I’d hate to have to meet this guy at the goalline…
LOL… you guys have to read that article…
‘A 700 pound wall of meat headed at a 16 year old cornerback, usually he’d just get out of the way…’
“Honestly, I never really got tackled,” says Fangupo, whom teammates call The Horse. “I just get tired and fall down.”
350 lbs of High School RB… I’m still not sure I’m reading it right, but watch the video clip that is embedded in the article
I’d be OK bringing in Brandon Jacobs… and Lagerette Blount and keeping whichever one performs better
Kenneth Faried getting ready to BRING SOME PAIN in the Dunk Contest…
Turn to TNT and watch out future TE!!! (in my dreams)
And KENNETH BRINGS THE PAIN in Round 2!!! Sweet….
Shaq and Chuck really did a good job tonight…. cracked me up!!!
Give Kenneth Faried a tryout!!!
One ILB to look at imo is Brad Jones. He would be a cheap FA and he player really well for the Packers.
*Played very well for the Packers
told you guys….should have takin my man from boise state instead of wolfe who did nothing….the DOUGIE MARTIN…..now were looking for a powerful back huh…..come on front office get this years draft right for once. take a boise state man! YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Wolfe actually was very helpful on the DL. Not as flashy as Martin but was very helpful.
Wolfe had a great year, just line him up next to Jenkins and we really have a D line. Good for a many year.
I agree Wolfe was a solid addition to our Defense… High Motor!
Really Good Articles about both Q and Mays on the website here… Really Excited to see Q next season! He will be a solid Contributor I think…
Also, I gotta give a Shout-Out to Julius Thomas! I’m not giving up hope that he can be a game Changer, hopefully he stays healthy enough to see the field a little this season
Anyone read that we’re supposedly not going to sign/draft a MLB/ILB? Sounds like we’re going with Irving, Johnson , and Mays.
Coincidentally, Alec Olgetree was arrested for a DUI… Yikes…

OT, i read that in the DP this morning. It looks like they are looking deep into the Safety position. It makes ya wonder what their thinking. Interesting.
They might even be considering Williams at the mike along with Irving Mays and Johnson.
Anyone that can help the secondary Denver is going to look at. Revis we looked into. Likely to look into Reed and Woodson
Freeny to Denver is actually a very popular idea as every article I read that talks about him says Denver should look into it and try and get him cheap. Collie is mentioned in it as well about going to Denver. Much like last year every former Colt is going to get speculated going to Denver.
I can see Collie here since He and Manning have played together in Indianapolis.
University of Denver vs Penn State lacrosse is live on NBC Sports. DU is ranked #9 in the country for NCAA men’s division 1.
I wouldnt be very surprised if we went after a DE somehow because last year our DL was Doom Warren Wolfe Hunter before Hunter and Warren got hurt.
I like Ansah a lot, but don’t think he’ll be there at #28, especially after he blows up the combine.
Ansah was unstoppable at the Senior Bowl and the SB week practice. He would be awesome but he’ll be gone for sure by the time we pick.
Thought I’d share this —>
@PriscoCBS: After watching some NFL tape this weekend, the biggest myths about the Broncos are: Champ Bailey can’t play CB anymore and Moore isn’t good.
And to add to what Pete said there I think if we added Charles Woodson to our secondary it would not only help on the field during play, it would add much needed leadership and motivation for our guys. There have been a lot of guys released, but I haven’t wanted any of them but Woodson. And he wants to play for a contender so I think we could get him for a similar price as Revis, without all the drama!!!
Sounds like we might cut Knowshon.
Hope everybody is having a good weekend!!!
I wouldnt rule out Woodson. let leonard go, cut mays and offer woodson 1 year @ $4 mill.
Cat. I have been consistently saying Moore is a top player and Bailey is ageless.
DB said Bailey should be second string. Sorry DB. we are back to disagreeing. Bailey alowed 24 yards per game this year while covering top WRs one on one with no safety help. Until Torrey Smith, AJ Green scored the lone TD Champ gave up all year. Champ is an absolute stud and is still a top 5 CB in the hame. Hardly a number two guy on any team.
Siro. Wolfe played more snaps then any guy on defense except maybe moore and champ. He is the huge reason that Miller and Doom lit it up. If you think Wolfe did less then Martin then you werent watching.
We dont need a RB. You guys all WANT one but we dont need one. Our problem in the baltimore game running the ball was kuper being hurt, not our RBs regarless of Moreno getting hurt. The Oline lacked a push from RG in that game. NO RB can gain conistent or tough yards without an Oline push.
Cat what happened? After the Ravens game you were defending Moore. Now you turned against him?
What?! I’m not saying get rid of Moore, but we need some veteran leadership on defense and they’re looking for safety help instead of MLB help like I think they should be… I don’t want Moore to go anywhere, I just want to add Woodson. I’m greedy.
Did you read what Prisco said?! He said its a MYTH that Champ can’t play CB and Moore isn’t good. Just because I want Woodson, it doesn’t mean I don’t think Rahim isn’t fantastic, but the team seems to be looking for secondary help and I prefer Woodson to Reed. That’s all!
And Quinton Carter is not 100% right now and if he can’t go come September… We need depth there. If we lost Adams or Moore to injury it’d be nice to have help anyway. I can dream if keeping all if them can’t I?!
*of
My apologies Cat. I completely missed myths. Thank you for pointing that out.
I would take a vet safety cheap to start opposite Moore if Carter cant go if Carter can then for depth. But I wouldnt bench Moore. He was rather good all year and his one bad play doesnt mean he isnt good nor does the fact he doesnt get INTs mean he isnt good. Its things that can be worked on. He had a lot of opportunities for picks and just didnt hold on. That can really be worked on.
RH the need for a RB comes from the aspect of being unable to stay healthy at RB.
