Pair Added to Practice Squad

October 20th, 2010 - 9:50am by Eric Detweiler

The Broncos brought their roster back to capacity on Wednesday morning, adding tight end John Nalbone and defensive lineman Mitch Unrein to their practice squad.

Nalbone, a fifth-round pick of Miami in 2009, played in a pair of games this season for the Dolphins and also spent time on Minnesota’s practice squad. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end did not record any regular season catches. As a rookie last season, the Monmouth University grad was inactive for the Dolphins’ first six games before spending the rest of the season on the team’s practice squad.

Unrein, a rookie defensive lineman, spent the 2010 preseason with Houston after signing as a college free agent out of Wyoming. Unrein recorded one tackle in two preseason contests before being waived on Sept. 3. The Colorado native was a three-time All-Mountain West selection at Wyoming.

I have finally digested and subsequently let go of the last game. I had to PVR it and watch it yesterday. While I am still somewhat disgusted with how it ended, there were A LOT of positives to take away and something to really build on moving forward.

And the craziness of our division so far this year still leaves it totally up for grabs. And the march to that divisional title starts this weekend against the F’N RAIDERS! We need this game badly! They will play us tough, no doubt, but we are too talented to let them get the win in our house, like what happened last year. It’s do or die time for the Broncos and I think they’re gonna DO IT BABY!

    Go Broncos!!!!!

  2. baylinorcrush says:

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…. What, what’s up, did someone say something? I see, guess not, at least nothing worthy of waking up for, going back to sleep then….

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Anyway, all jokes set aside, I was right yesterday thinking we had two spots left on the PS, but man what insignificant moves on the last day of trading or what! No mo money…

  4. brian_schneider says:

I said it before “every game is a must win game.”
The rest of the games this season are mathmatically “must win games.” Look, I’m not kidding myself, chances are slim we’ll be playing for a nice shiney Lombardi trophy. I’d sure like to see our team in maybe one playoff game, or at least have an above .500 winning average. Plus the next 6 out of 10 games are DIVISIONAL!!!! So we have to saddle up, buckle down, and strap in because we’re going to really see what we’re made of.

  5. CurtOU says:

How awesome would it be to have the last game at home against the Chargers be for the title and a chance for a home playoff game? That is what Im giddy about. Obviously a long way to go, but that would be awesome.

But then I look at the Chiefs remaining schedule, good God, might be the easiest on paper in the league. They play the Seahawks, Cardinals, and Titans all at home, and those are the only teams they play with a winning record.

One game at a time. Broncos 38 Raiders 6.

  6. john bronco says:

    buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
    mediocrity, mediocrity , mediocrity
    2010 a year of mediocrity

    FIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE MC DANIELS

  7. baylinorcrush says:

    Very well spelled out argument.

  8. CurtOU says:

Well, we know where the regular John Bronco fans stand. At least there is that.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

More fallout: Steelers LB James Harrison was excused from practice today and his agent said Harrison is contemplating retirement.

And I wouldn’t blame him, you spend your entire career playing the game one way, and in the middle of the season the league tells you you will be suspended if you keep doing it, I hope he does pull out to send a loud message to the league that this time they have gone too far, we are heading for flag football, ladies and gents, and I will quit watching when it gets to that, GUARANTEED. The D is not allowed to do their job any longer, they want to give it all to the O, D is the part of football that is the most stress relieving part to me, because on Sundays you can let it all out hitting people while all week you have to be on your best behavior in whatever walk of life you lead. The NFL takes that stress relief out there will be nothing left but pretty boys running around in tight unis that only girls will find fun to watch. This has been a sad step backward in the world of football this week, and the league thinks they are making the game better, what a joke! Disgusted by it all is how I feel.

  10. Yovi21 says:

re-hire McDaniels! hahaha give this man time and I really feel we will be great!

  11. sndvl says:

may as well go back to wearing leather helmets.

Who cares about playoffs at this point. This teams only goal- Beat Choakland at Mile-High. Nay, Obliterate them. Anything less is a failure…

  12. brian_schneider says:

@john bronco: Mediocrity would imply that we’re average…have you seen our record, there isn’t anything mediocre about it.

  13. sndvl says:

4-12 since 6-0. Crucial game this week. why continue to “wait” if there is no return on the investment???

  14. brian_schneider says:

You’d think that as technology advances and the equipment becomes more advaced you’d be able to get by with less rules concerning player safety.

Leather hats and magazines for pads = less rules regarding player safety

Helmets with, facemask, padding, concusion reducing technology, recontructred support in vital areas, actual pads, doctors of all types to help with medicine and injuries, trainers, people to squirt water in your mouth because your’re too lazy to do it yourself, a bunch of other techological adavements = more rules regarding player safety

Seems a bit back@sswards to me.

  15. strandoftds says:

The NFL is turning into a joke. Might as well dress the players in pink leotards and little pretty ribbons. It makes me sick.

  16. CurtOU says:

This is being way blown out of proportion. Just play the game the correct way, don’t pierce people with your helmet and don’t use it as a weapon and you can play the game hard and how you always have. I bet 95% of defensive players don’t care about the new rule because they follow the rules and don’t play dirty. It’s the few that do use their helmets as a weapon that are scared, and they should be. They are going to break their own necks one day if they don’t stop. I’m all for holding people accountable. The rule doesn’t change, it’s just going to be strongly enforced. Don’t give me this rant about flag football and how you feel disgusted, relax, nothing changes, the product on the field will be exactly the same, you wouldn’t even notice it if they didn’t announce it, guaranteed.

  17. Yovi21 says:

well since the chiefs schedule is so easy we will just have to beat them twice! they wont win out! sooner or later they will fall like we did! and I dont know why everyone is so down about this team. We have played at least 4 of the top tear teams in the league. Don’t sell out too soon!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  18. CurtOU says:

Agreed Yovi21, I feel confident about this team. People that go all doom and gloom just do that so if we lose, they can say they were right. And if we win, they can can be happy, either way, they feel good. It’s just a weak way to protect themselves, lame.

  19. strandoftds says:

Brian, all agreed accept one part. They squirt the water or whatever other fluids for safety reasons- hygene- any kind of mouth diseases. You don`t want players handling and sucking on bottles then handing it to another player. You`d be asking for trouble.

  20. brian_schneider says:

I used to be an optimist in my life. I always looked at the glass half full, try to find the good in the bad, find the right in the wrong. Then I grew up and figured out that it doesn’t work like that. Somtimes there is no good in the bad or right in the wrong. Half full or half emtpy either way you look at it, it is still only half.

  21. brian_schneider says:

strandoftds: True, I’ll give you that one.

  22. strandoftds says:

The worst fine of the three is Dunta Robinsons. It reminds me of the same hits with the fines by John Lynch. Remember that trash. Dunta`s hit was clean. It`s football. This is the NFL, not Bad Mitten. I hope Donta`s fine is completely dropped. It better be.

  23. strandoftds says:

    Just safety reasons bro.

  24. brian_schneider says:

Let the players play…Let the players play…Let the players play!

  25. strandoftds says:

Any word yet on the injury report? I know It`s early. I hope Dawk, Royal, Woodyard, Goody, and Darcel come back soon. Get healthy guys.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

CurtOU, seems as if everyone is lame or ranting in your world, strandoftds is correct there was nothing dirty in Dunta’s hit, it really wasn’t even a helmet hit, it was a shoulder hit, some people have different opinions, get used to it, this new approach to those hits is what’s lame, safeties and hard hitting LB’s won’t be able to do their job any longer, no one will be scared to go across the middle on a zone coverage D anymore, your words of re-assurance are hollow, they don’t resonate well with me at all, different strokes for different folks. Now that that’s out of the way, I won’t tell you how to act if you do the same for me from now on, I’m a grown man I can react however I chose.

  27. CurtOU says:

Ummm, Baylin, I think I was just stating my opinion, just as you do. Sorry it seemed as if I was going at you, I didn’t really mean it that way. Im just saying that I don’t see it the same way. They’ll still do their job, just watch, nothing will change. Im also a grown man, and I can react differently, no need to come back at me. I think Robinsons hit was fine, most hits are fine, its the ones where you can almost see the defender change his direction just to hit the guy in the head, those are the ones they will be looking for, like Meriweather, that wasn’t even close to legal.

  28. 1nOnlyTRB says:

So with this move its as good as saying…”made a mistake getting richard quinn, trading sheffler, then getting some gronkowski dude who sucks as a recieving TE” …. nice. wish we coulda just worked it out with sheffler or drafted a better TE than quinn or something

  29. baylinorcrush says:

Good report by Lindsay Jones, here is parts of it:

So, Tom Cable, who will be the starting quarterback for your Raiders in Sunday’s game against the Broncos?

That was the first question asked of the Raiders’ head coach this morning on a conference call with Denver reporters. And it was a good one, considering the Raiders’ top two quarterbacks, Bruce Gradkowski and Jason Campbell, are both banged up. No. 3 QB Kyle Boller could play if the neither of the other two are ready to go.

“We have no idea at this point,” Cable said, agreeing that it puts his team and coaching staff in a tough spot.

“Very much so,” Cable said. “It’s difficult in that you’d like to be settled and know where you’re headed, but we’ve got some issues. So, I don’t really know when we’ll have something definitive, hopefully tomorrow, but today we’ll learn a lot, so we’ll see.”

This is not an unfamiliar situation for the Raiders. When Oakland traveled to Denver last year, the team had to start Charlie Frye because Gradkowski was hurt and JaMarcus Russell was ineffective. Frye got hurt in that game, and it ended up being Russell who led the Raiders on the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.

Hopefully the team reads this article and pays particular attention to the last paragraph, and actually post it in their locker room, so that in no way they get complacent about this team because of their QB situation. Raiders like to run it at you anyway, so forget about this will be an easy game, please, be ready to do battle is all I ask.

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

    TRB….I hear ya bro!

We traded a great pass catching TE in Sheffler to Detroit for a 7th round pick, and then turned around and traded a 1st round pick(Phonzy) to Detroit for a mediocre TE in Gronkowski, that my friend was STUPID!!!!!!!!!

  31. baylinorcrush says:

When someone jumps at me, I’ll react, everyone here knows that, I won’t instigate things but I stand my ground when needed, after you saying “Don’t give me this rant about flag football and how you feel disgusted”, I don’t see how you could be surprised that I came back at you.

  32. strandoftds says:

I know that It`s been a few years but this hits close to home for me. This once again reminds me of the fines that Lynch got, all in a matter of a few games back to back if I recall. But anyway Lynch`s hits where all legal, real game speed safety hits. Were talking one qaurter of a step miiliseconds. It`s impossible to stop, you can`t at full speed. Lynch was a clean player. A great safety and great charactar. Dunta`s hit reminds me of Lynch`s back in the day. A real joke.

  33. 1nOnlyTRB says:

lol BFE. that how I felt as well…it was like spinning ur wheels. Sure trade him (if u must) but dont then turn around and get a even worse TE from them with a once upon a time first round pick. Still thought phonzy was worthy of practice squad but maybe I dont know practice squad rules.

And the deal was sheff and a 7th pick to lions and we got eagles 5th pick I believe. I know sheff wasnt the best blocker but man, the man was a great catching TE, with pretty good speed to boot. I know McDaniels doesn’t really use TEs for anything but blocking but when we do need one to catch we dont have one. Graham can catch but he is not the ideal receiving TE…great blocker tho

  34. strandoftds says:

I remember four maybe fives years back, we played the Ravens and some QB named Kyle Boller burned our D pretty good. I think Boller might be the best QB the raiders have.

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Just saw it

    I agree Baylin and strand

robinsons fine and flag was complete BS. Was a clean hit in my book. And all this defenseless receiver mess is annoying me too because the only time a reciever is on guard is after he has caught and secured the ball. So what are they supposed to do…wait for the ball to be caught before laying a strong hit? leave it at helmet to helmet. Robinsons was clean. Full game speed…you put your body in a legal tackle stance, and the receiver may ball up to protect himself, move his head, or do something that changes where u were initially aiming for and at full speed too late to change. You are askign defenders to think to much instead of doing their job. This is a contact sport for a reason…sure concussions have increased but its been this way for a long time without any major issues. Helmet to helmet is the only illegal hit in my book. And merriweathers was unnecessary as well

  36. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I was curious about where Richard Quinn was and was researchign him and I came across this video from week one where McD demoralized Quinn. It has audio to it and is pretty funny. Its what he was saying but not his voice. A very funny but accurate voice over lol. There is some vulgar language so parental discretion is advised :-) lol

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

All part of the game boys,if people don’t like the big hits, they don’t have to watch the games,I say quit changing everything into a panzy league. It’s been this way for what 50 years for the Broncos, since 1960,why change it now, remember when we had Atwater and Smith (the headhunters) I loved those guys and their big hits, and Lynch too.jomho.

  38. BeastFromEast92 says:

    LMAO…TRB..now that was hysterical.

  39. strandoftds says:

Ya 1nOnlyTRB, you hit on another part of that aspect I didn`t even think of. The WR moving his head as being tackled and reacting to the tackler and his body and head going different directions to position himself in a matter of milliseconds. The reality of football I`d say.

  40. strandoftds says:

Man, Atwater is one of my favorite Bronco`s of all time. WOW!! Remember the 2nd to the last play of SUPERBOWL 32? Also one of the best hits of Pro Football of all time. Monday Night Football, K.C., Atwater vs Okoya. One of my all time favorite hits ever.

  41. bronco-blaze says:

I hope James retires. I hate that guy with a passion. Hes a dirty player and a jack A**. He is a hard hitter, sure, but hes a little B****…Sorry ive been watching him play for years, and the superbowl against the cardnials was the final straw for me. He made a late hit, and then started punching the guy on the ground…AND DIDNT GET CALLED FOR IT. I wouldnt be sad, and i hope he retires.. Just saying.

  42. bronco-blaze says:

And Dunta Robinson’s hit was legal…And its Bull that he has to pay 50k for it. It shouldnt have been a penalty either…He will win his appeal im sure.

  43. DCEBronco says:

    Hey Denver Broncos.com

You have the wrong TE listed on the home page. The Oakland TE is Zach Miller not Heath Miller.

  44. 1nOnlyTRB says:

i remember that blaze. ugly stuff

  45. sndvl says:

We have like 10 players on the injury report.

  46. Yovi21 says:

I know we need defense, but if there is a TE with first round talent Denver should get him! then use the rest of their picks on D. that is what our red zone offense is missing, a solid threat at TE!

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

strandofts…Yeah that Atwater/Okoya was probably my most favorite hit of all time, along with the hit that TD made on ST.

  48. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yovi…you got that right, and we had a great pass catching TE and pissed him away.

  49. Orange_Crusher says:

    HAHAHAHA!!!

The Orange and Black mix in October….

    How fitting and akwardly strange…

Sndvl and I will both be at the Raider game Sunday with our Dads and both of our dads are Raider fans…hahahaha!!

I feel like we are somehow related to each other bro!! lol

I remember the last Raider/Bronco game at Mile High that my Dad and I were together at was on October 16th 1995 and the Broncos SMOKED the Raiders 27-0 hahahaha… The first play of the game the guy in front of me jumped back in excitement and spilled my whole 32 oz beer righ onto my Orange Elway jersey…

He was a Bronco fan so I just high fived him, and then Elway went on to pass for like 320+ yards 2 TD’s 0 INT.. Most of his yards were to Anthony Miller I think but we only rushed for about 30 yards and ended up going 8-8 that year….

What a game though and what a wild night.. We were both single then… woo hoo!!!

I THINK BRONCOS RE-CREATE THE FUTURE ON SUNDAY AND SMOKE THE RAIDERS!!!

    BRONCOS 27

    RAIDERS 0

    ILMSDB!!!!

  50. Big D 44 says:

TRB, that video was too funny. LMAO
