On Thursday night, rookie quarterback Brock Osweiler will get his first taste of live NFL action, and he knows exactly how he wants it to go.
“As a quarterback in the preseason, my goals would be to move the offense, get first downs, have a high completion percentage, score points when we’re in the red zone and don’t turn the football over,” he said.
The Broncos and Bears kick off at 7:30 p.m. CDT. For Osweiler, it couldn’t come soon enough.
“I couldn’t be more excited,” he said. “We’re going to a great venue, Soldier Field, playing against a great football team. I think we’ve had a great start to camp and we’ve done quite a few things very well. I’m looking forward to the opportunity and seeing what we can do in a game situation.”
Osweiler feels OTAs and camp have prepared him for Thursday night’s contest, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be without some welcomed pregame jitters.
“I think you’re always going to have those butterflies,” Osweiler said. “Before any football game, no matter how long you’ve been playing. I’ve always been told the day that the butterflies don’t show up is the day that you need to retire. I’m sure there will be a few of them. It will be more excitement than anything else.”
The preseason for Osweiler will be another learning experience as he continues to adapt himself to playing at NFL speed. During a two-minute drill at Tuesday’s afternoon practice, he encountered his most recent speed bump – and he learned from it.
“For example, (Tuesday) I threw an interception in the two-minute drill,” Osweiler said. “That’s a huge learning play for me. It was a situation where I had to throw hot, there were some free rushers coming off the edge. That’s a hard situation in the gun because you have to be able to get the football, try to get the laces and put an accurate ball out there real quick. So now I learned really how fast that will take place in a two-minute situation. And now I can rep that throughout practice drills.”
Better yet, Thursday could give him a chance to rep that in a game.
“I’m just looking forward to getting on the field and slinging the football around a little bit,” he smiled.

Me? Omar Bolden. For some reason I have a crazy football crush on that guy. Ohhhhh and Mitch Unrein!!!!!!
My attention is going to be on the RB’s on offense and Harris, Champ and the LB’s on defense.
Lol Cat. Bolden is a good one. But the Robinson Os connection is going to be great to watch IMO if they can do some of what they did in College at ASU I think that will get Robinson on the PS at least if he keeps it up during preseason of course.
How much time do we have left?
Bob Griffin hasn’t even earned a nickname yet (thanks Osi)! So stupid! Hopefully they make a big deal of Luck on Sunday then.
One hour and 20 minutes.
AB, I think I forgot about Robinson playing with Os in college. And I also forgot about Tracy Porter!
