For the first time 11 seasons, the Broncos are off to a 5-0 start, and Kyle Orton is a big reason why.
For the first time in his five-year NFL career, Orton is set to receive a conference player-of-the-week honor. The Broncos learned on Tuesday that he will be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, for his performance against the Patriots on Sunday.
Orton completed 35-of-48 throws for 330 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception in the Broncos’ 20-17 overtime win. He drove Denver 98 yards to the game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter and 58 yards to the game-winning field goal on the first drive of overtime.
Orton’s 35 completions tied for the third-highest single-game total in the NFL this year, and his 330 passing yards were the most by a victorious AFC passer during Week 5. His 72.9 percent completion percentage set a career high and marked the second-highest game total in Broncos history among players with at least 45 pass attempts..
Orton has also proven his value in the clutch. The overtime drive he engineered against the Patriots represented the fourth time this season that he led a touchdown drive of 67 yards or more in the final quarter of play. It was also third time this season overall that he led a game-winning drive.
Orton is the 44th Bronco to win an AFC Offensive Player of the Week award since its inception in 1984.

are the Broncos wearing the old jerseys on monday
Bay and DD thanks for the info on Hillis. I didn’t realize he had made so many mistakes. All I know is he runs the ball with hunger and determination and he’s got really good hands. I hope McD get’s him back in the mix soon.
Hat’s off to Orton. Could not ask for more out of QB. I’m glad he is making all folks who doubted him in the preseason eat their words…
including myself.
As coach McD would say just “got keeping working to get better”
That’s not just a great attitude for a football team, it’s a great attitude for life in general.
Broncos for Life!!
broncosfreak30,
I will be there.. South Stands… Row 30… Seats 17 & 18
I can’t wait!!!!!!
I sat row 4 (which is more like row 2 due to handicapped seating) 40 yard line behind the cowboy’s bench it was awsome!!!
If this is your first game you sure picked a rough one.
The steelers have a HUGE following. I went 2 years ago and the stadium was almost 50% steelers fans but we won.
This is Broncos Country!
TXBRONCOFANATIC, youre welcome. Hillis will be back, he just needs to wait for his chance to show McD that he has it together again.
Just so everyone knows, I’m holding a contest for a free NFL jersey of your choice (what is available at the site I buy from). You need to go to Fan Huddle and the Broncos section to get the rules.
Wildman347, here is the link you requested.

WILDMAN347… Yea, there will be more Broncos fans with how good we are doing this year. I am REALLY excited about the game. I wanted to pick a good game and I think we will win plus it is against the superbowl champs so it will be really good. I will get up with you and see what you are doing before the game. Me and my friend are flying down to Denver on Friday, Nov. 6, and are going snowboarding and just hanging out until the game on Monday! We are wanting to go to a club or something down there and enjoy the night life too but have never been to Denver so we have the whole weekend to do whatever!
Congrats to Kyle. You deserve it. Brandon has Bowlen’s support. With this uncapped season coming up. He and doom can remain with us. I think Sheffler has 2 yrs remaining on his deal. Champ will retire off his deal. If not I see 1 more yr after that. We had a core of young up and comers. With the veteran leader ship to help then along. Things are looking good.
MAN THIS IS GETTING GOOD!!!!!!
5-0 BABY!!!!!
The next few games are going to be crazy!!!!
It first started with Cincy on a fluke pass. I figured we’d beat them. Then it was Oakland. They suck and I figured we[d beat them too.
Then Cleveland. they suck too and I figured we’d beat them too. Then came Dallas.. Man I didn’t know. I sure hoped they would but I still had some reservations. After that I thought mabey we might have something this year. Then after last week. WOW!!!! Shut them down in the second half. Still… Chargers, Ravens, Steelers, Indy, Giants, Philly, PHEW!!!!!
BRING EM ON!!!!!!!!!
I have definately drank the Kool-aid now! Man I’m bathing in it!!!!
It’s been a long time since 1998! I know we’ve all been longing for this.
If this team keeps this up. With the schedule we have. They could shock the world!!! heh heh heh.
Been a bronco fan for along time and it sure feels good to start out like this.
Go Broncos!!!!!
I’m so grateful for Kyle Orton’s selflessness, humility and excellence. He was never given a fair shot in Chicago and while I had a high ceiling for him, he’s exceeded my expectations. When a quarterback doesn’t turn the ball over and makes big plays for you, good things will happen. Keep up the good work, guys and as always, GO BRONCOS!!! Let’s go 6-0! Orton=the Man!
Whats so cool is that there is no ” The Man” now. The team is “The Man”!!
They got rid of the guy who thought he was the man, but he wasn’t. Not here, not now, not with McDaniels in charge. We needed this! Bowman was right. always is.
Now everyone can showcase their talants. not just one guy who tries to do things he can’t cause he thinks he’s superman and does stupid things with the football. After watching Orton more I think he is a much smarter and better quarterback than Cutler. He may not have as much physical talant, but he is a better quarterback from what I’ve seen of him so far.
Everyone now is just doing their job. The new team logo!!
Keep Doing It Boys and when you look up at the end, you’ll be there!!!!
Go Bronco!!!! kill crybaby rivers
Hey Wildman347… this is the site Dave uses for jerseys.
http://www.jerseysrus.net/nfl-jerseys.html.
Congrats Kyle!!! He’s definitely shown that he can be a leader and pull through in the clutch.
I read a link that showed the stats of all the QBs from NLF.com. Orton is right behind Rivers. I think we’ll get to Rivers this week because they don’t have as good of offensive line as the Patriots. I can’t wait for the game. This is about the only reason I am looking foward to Monday.
Congrats KO. You have been a real stud these 1st 5 weeks. Hope theres more awards to come for you and the rest of the team.
I hope we prove to the world on Monday that we are not a fluk team and that we really can bring. I hope to see Rivers on his a$$ most of the night. I cant stand that little f@$@$T. lets show SD that this isnt the regular broncos you can light up the score board on. Lets shut em down!!!!
Go broncos!!!!!!!!!!!
Somehow, I’m not to worried about the Chargers this time around, after all they are past their prime, their window is closing, they have a horrible coach, they have an owner who calls his players soft, I mean I really don’t see many positives there. As far as we are concerned, we are a team on the way up, we have a great coach, our owner is one of the league’s best and there is no disarray between anyone, wether on the field or in the front office. Regardless of how we match up position by position, which is pretty well anyway, we have enough going for us that winning should not be a problem, just an end.
The only thing that I don’t know is how we will perform at night, that’s a new one for us in this regular season, we need to get that down as we are playing the next 2 out of 3 games at night. I bet it will be a main emphasis by McD this week, changing the daily routine accordingly to get them used to the playing at night thing.
Congrats Kyle. Man there has been a lot of speculation surrounding you and you are continuing to silence the critics week after week. Amazing first game without the glove. Don’t know as if it made that big of a difference, but it was great to see you do so well.
On another note, I was watching NFL Network and once again 2 out of 3 of the guys are putting us to loose to San Diego. I believe the exact words were SELL SELL SELL stock in the Broncos. Talk about haters.
I think the number one reason we are winning so many games is GAME PREPERATION. We have a different game plan every week because we attack the weaknesses of our oppenants and use our strengths to do so.
The number two reason we are winning is because we have been playing like a team on all three phases of the game. No room for Selfishness.
The third reason we are winning is our talent, and boy do we have a lot of it. It really shows in all of the individual player awards that we are winning this year.
The fourth reason we are winning is belief. Their is a belief that McD and key players and other coaches have instilled in the team. You can tell that they believe with the proper preperation and hard nose no penalty play they can win every single football game. Mixed with belief are motivaters like Brian Dawkins and Knowshon Moreno, both very excitable guys, and lets not forget our beloved Coaches celebration with his family at the end of the New England Game. Those fist pumps had me doing fist pumps at the Bar for an hour.
One game at a time though. Hear Come the Bolts. They have a lot to prove, and a lot more to loose in this game than we do. Lets go in well prepaired and come away with the W.
Heres to 6-0 into the by week!!!
I have a stat to die for…
In the 2nd half this year, our D has allowed only 2 out of 31 third down!!!! Both in the first two games, NONE in the last three!!!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!
Way to go Kyle O. I love3 where this team is heading.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last season it seemed like we would get off to a quick start in a game then we couldn’t quite finish a game, couldn’t stop the run, throwing INTs, injuries, no intensity.
This season it is the exact opposite, we are starting a little slower and finishing very strong, stopping the run, keeping the passing in check, only have one INT, a few injuries, the intensity is through the entire stadium.
I was expecting maybe a turnaround season to come after this season, but it has already started. I love it. Bet those people that sold their season tickets when we traded Cutler and fired Shanny are mad at themselves.
broncowildkansan, you’re correct, the Chargers are much more on a spot than we are in this game. This is basically a must game for them for the division title race, at least that’s what the Charger players are now saying, and a loss wouldn’t mean that much to us for the race assuming we’ll win the rematch at home. The pressure is on them, I believe we can play loose and it could turn out to be a big advantage, specially in the turnover department.
Great game Kyle:
I had picked last week as your coming out party and I certainly don’t see you slowing down this week. We should be able to move the ball against the chargers and keep the ball rolling. We need to keep the pressure on and go 6-0 into the bye week.
Breakdown and predictions will come later in the week.
Regards:
Coach
brian, last year we started the first halves strong because Shanny always pre-scripted the first 25 plays and it worked real well for him. Last year we always finished poorly because Shanny’s team practiced in shorts and had a spa like conditioning regimen.
baylinorcrush, I don’t know about playing to loose. I would like to see some different looks, and with Crazy McD and the Wild Horse Offense last week who knows whats going to happen. I thought that was completely insain while watching it last week. I plan on watching it again tonight on NFL network. He truely likes to mix things up. I guess we will see whats going to happen.
Heres to being prepaired for Monday!!!! I loss this week is a two game swing in the division lead.
“A”
coachemup, I gave you a good write up in the Mark Cooper blog october 12, 12:25 pm post, don’t say I never recognize your hard work anymore! LOL.
wildman, it’s not playing to lose, it’s playing loose… Two totally different things, you can lose a game, or you might have some loose change in your pocket. English language nuances…tough thing to master.
lol baylinocrush, got ya buddy. Thanks for the english leason.
Will Stokely get more involved this week?
Well earned – keep it up Kyle!
I’ll admit I’ve been skeptical of Orton’s long term potential, but he’s been exciting to watch lately. He deserved this.
GO ORANGE!
Kyle,
YOU GO BOY!
O.K. Seriously Kyle, I got one for you. The fans love you! Your coach and owner love you! the team loves you!
Here’s the things! It’s time to put some swagger into that helmet. Let’s shave the head!!!!!
Now I’m not saying you need the JMac hear cut, it needs to be shorter. Shave that thing down!!!!
Show me something! I want a shaved head!!!!!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
…oh one last thing….
Phillip Rivers…..oh Phillip….paging Mr. Rivers!
Hey Phil, when you woke up this morning did you ever think about Sunday being the end of your season? Yeah, not good huh?
Well listen….I wanted to give you a just a few tips that might help this Sunday. Are you ready? Here they are:
#24 (He’s an elusive lil’ creature)
#20 (He doesn’t play nicely with others)
#92 (really watch this one….)
#55 (he actually got a memo from the NFL to stop hitting so hard)
#56 (he has a weird obsession for powder blue uniforms)
#57 (This guy just flat out hates you..that’s what he told his mama!)
#90 (He picked up our head coach after we BEAT THE PATRIOTS)
#91 (This one is just not a very happy camper)
#21
#23 (I know it’s tough but #21 & #23 have played together for years)
#98 (The owner told this guy it’s a $100K bonus to sack you)
#99 (The owner told this guy it’s a $150K if he get you before #98)
#26 (We believe this is actually #24′s offspring. Results are in yet)
I know it’s a lot to remember….Maybe they can make you one of those sleeve things with all these numbers on it……oh wait…I got it. Here’s what you do!
When you line up under center Monday night. Those 11 guys out there, those are the ones you wanna watch out for!
Good Luck!
Broncfalls: He’s gotta keep it until/if we lose, then he can get a haircut. LOL!
go broncos and crush those chargers , damned 52-21 was too much to swallow , it’s time for the revenge !!!
Whats up everybody. I been away for a while. To busy watching the Broncos get to 5-0. Way to go KO. I knew you could do it, and now all the haters from the preseason think so to.
Broncfalls, love the idea about Orton, but I’m going to go with the exact opposite. I think he should toatl shagg it out like Plummer in 2005. I want the hair longer and a f@%@*@*# grizzly adams nasty a$$ beard. Awesome!!
I hope we stick it to SD and Phillip Rivers. They have eaten our lunch the last three years and it is time for some payback. Lets get to 6-0 before the bye and then the Ravens. Bo Broncos!!!
LOL, Broncfalls… too funny!! Rivers is going to have a VERY LONG DAY on Monday!! Can hardly wait! He’s gonna be covered with all sorts of bruises… bruises all over for getting sacked so much, Doom will by very hungry on Monday considering he didn’t get any sacks on Brady so he’s gotta make up for lost time. And then by the end of the game, Rivers will be crying a river cause he’ll have a very bruised ego. hahaha I laugh at the sight of that twirp pouting. Gonna be a great day!
Keep the faith…
GO BRONCOS!!!
rebelbronco & brian_schneider!
Good points! Yeah keep it! I can live with that!
I wanna see him warm up in San Diego wearing a PBR truck driver hat LOL!
That crap would rock!
Broncofalls, that was hilarious and well said,
Theres somethign about KO haircutt that gets me too. seems too safe lol. I was also thinking he should get a cut or like rebelbronco said shag out like plummer back in the days or randy moss right now (whats up with that lol). I like the haircut idea better tho. Thats the right word, swagger. He needs to get some lol
And about #26….darn right he is #24′s offspring because I dont think he got the memo that he is a back up CB cuz that kid was playing like a starter against them patriots lol.
The wait is the only bad thing to have your team playing on MNF.
But I’m sure it will totally worth it.
Go Broncooos!
Congrats to Orton. He deserves it for what he did on Sunday.
I think that we will go into the bye week 6-0. If we do that, we will be better off for the season.
That was hilarious Broncfalls… too funny!!
Orton looks like one of the Beatles with his hairstyle. Speaking of the Beatles, saw a video w/ Orton talking about their music when he came out of college.
Awesome stat – baylinor! thanks for sharing!!
Rivers said a few years ago, his uniform was clean after a game after against us. Let’s see if it’s not mistaken for a Jets uniform, (pants), after Monday Night. Can’t wait to see him pulling sod out of his facemask.
